Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi there, Thanks for trying to find it for me. I looked at all the pictures at those sites and none of them looked like the one that I have. It's hard to tell from a picture though. The sides are made out of this really light weight material that is really comfortable. It seems like Warner's must have come out with a new "Friday Bra" As far as revision goes, I am doing great. I am going back to work tomorrow. I feel fine. I am a little bit hungry some of the time. I am not supposed to feel hunger, but being on Clear liquids for 10 days is going to be harder than I thought. My stomach just aches sometimes because it just feels so empty. I just called the doctor's office to ask if I could move to Protein shakes.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Very interesting Florinda - and chin up darlin, keep fighting the good fight - you are doing what you need to do to take good care of yourself. The SWANK plan sounds like anything but - it sounds terrible. Makes me think of one of my clients when I lived in NYC who went on a raw macrobiotic diet to help combat Lyme disease and she just started looking like death warmed over - like she had been drained of blood - then another client came waltzing in how had been doing Atkins for the first time looking fit as a fiddle, rosy cheeked - and quite slim. I found a doc closer to us who looks like he has significant experience with revision - I think I might see if I can attend one of his seminars to ask about the gerd issues and a RNY - I am scared of having to get a manometry (hubby had to have it and said it was the worst experience of his life - its where they thread sensors through your nose down your esophagus to place sensors for overnight study, his desciption of it is terrifying and hubby is no puss by a long shot lol) though I am more scared of Barretts esophagus!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Katy - I had the same trouble with my ticker. Alex had to help me get it into my signature block. I was following all the directions, using the correct "BB" code, but kept getting an "invalid file" response. Once he fixed it for me I've been able to revise it and bring it back in with no trouble. For pictures in your note - I clicked on the "go advanced" button in the quick reply screen. It gave me the option to attach files (under "additional options"), "manage attachments" - then it allows you to browse your pictures and select one, then upload to the note. I hope that works for you. The picture I have uploaded is of me holding my brand new grandson - 23 months ago today. DD is in the background wanting him back... (I sure hope this worked! When I previewed the post I had to click on the link to see the pic...)

Congrats on your surgery date. My revision is on Friday so maybe we'll run into each other. I can't wait! I'm a little nervous, any surgery makes me nervous, but am so ready to get a fill and get on with this.

    May 2007 Banders

Hi Laura, So glad you are feeling better. I had a problem last month and had to go to the ER to get a unfill because they put more in it than planned. They had me up to 4cc's in a 4cc band. I couldn't swallow spit! It was a horrible, uncomfortable feeling. Now I'm up to 3.25 or 3.5. I have a hard time remembering. I can't go over 3.5 or I choke. This is the first time since I've had the band (2 yrs) that I am starting to not like it. I am not losing weight and I am so tired of puking! I really wish that I could get it revised to the gastric sleeve. Courese, I was doing so well before I got married last January. We have food in the house that I never had in it before. My new hubby loves to eat 3 big meals a day. He wants there to always be home made cookies in the cookie jar and he loves ice cream. Ice cream is my weekness. It is so easy to eat.. Well, I just hope your doing better than me. I've gained 10-12 pds since I've married!! Yikes Mini

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Congrats on your wl, you are doing great. I’m 7 months post bariatric revision and have lost 79lbs to date. I’m officially stalling been 180-181 for almost 3 weeks now. This is longest stall I’ve had and starting to wonder if I’m done losing?? Got a couple more months to go to reach a year and my projected wl is 100lbs.. I hope this stall breaks this week!!!
  8. Congratulations! I had my revision from band to rny this month. The surgery recovery was way easier in my experience. So glad I did it!!
  9. I, too, used to have the band. I had about 2 years between the time I had all of my fluid removed (due to a band slippage) and the day I had my RNY conversion. It has seriously been the best thing ever. I was so worried it would be this huge life change and it simply has not been. I guess I was comparing it to the awful experience I had with the band and NEVER being able to eat anything normal and certainly not even drinking before 2 pm. It simply has been a very much welcomed change into normal eating. I don't feel like I've been a slower loser due to the revision. It has been 6 months since my surgery and i am down 82 lbs with about 20 more pounds to go until I'm at my goal weight. Best decision ever for me. Good luck to you!

Thanks Stef. Missy I am moving too, though not as far as you. I only have a one-bedroom place but it's still a freaking nightmare. Hope you get thought it OK. Note to self: Don't buy stuff. BeckieT, I'm so happy your port revision went fine. Now the band can do its job better and the rest of us can breathe easier knowing that it's not tooo major. So glad you're 'fixed'. Note for you guys: Don't try to eat dried apple rings. They will boogy in your osephegus all night havin' a NY party of their own.

Hey all!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Most of you will make your goal weight this year - HOW EXCITING!! BeckieT, glad your revision went well, hopefullyyou'll have NO MORE staph infections! Ick! My New Years was great. Went over to a friends party - drank ONE apple-tini and was so freaking buzzed. I laughed at how crazy it was. And I had a few sips of Champagne at Midnight - which is< I think, the first carbonation I've had since surgery. No pain or excessive gas with it, but the bubble felt funny! Ha! NOW that the 'Holidays' are all behind us... I'm going to start watching my calorie intake again and logging my foods in my bodybugg site. I've been at/hovered around 305-301 for 2 weeks. Its about dang time I get serious again and hit TWOterville!! CHop chop!!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Hi kelliv, I am having a Bypass for a couple of reasons: I have had 2 x Lapbands which have slipped and I am having the second one removed in 2 days time. I have also had my Gallbladder removed during that time. I injured my back and both shoulders at work and I have had reconstructive surgery to my foot and today I was told that I have acute arthritis in that foot which I can hardly stand on at the moment, so exercise is going to be difficult post op. My Surgeon and I discussed my options and he feels that when he does the WLS it will be the 4th stomach operation that I have had, this means that I have a much higher risk of developing Scar tissue around my stomach, I need to lose at least 50kg and his statistics show that a Bypass should be more successful than a sleeve, he believes that if I have a 'sleeve' he will have to revise it in 2 years so he recommended doing a Bypass as the first option, I have a complicated medical history which includes lung clots last year and I am 57. So, after weighing up all the pro's and con's we decided that I would have a Bypass. I really like this forum and there doesn't seem to be a similar one for 'Bypassers' so I hang out in here. Hope you don't mind???? You all have amazing stories and insight into WLS and I have learnt a lot from this forum.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Swizz I have shared some of my challenges and my number one advice is to get your sleep under control. It you can do that at least you can begin to tackle the rest of the madness. Let me know if you want to talk more. Lack of sleep was at least half my problem. The other half seems to be a lifetime of numbed feelings showing up all at once. Denise why would revisions show up with problems 3-4 years later? I thought the risks were closer to the surgery. Why would Aceves have done it "wrong" versus many other revision docs? Do you think that revisions dont get a normal shaped sleeve? I lose massive hair all the time and I still have a ton...always been that way....but why would it be caused by fasting. Don't worry about the scale if your fitted non stretch clothes fit the same, you are fine. My pants keep falling down so I may need to go jeans shopping this weekend. I am thinking about buying a decent swimsuit too although I am not much of a swimmer as the water is too cold. Sarsar, wishing your hubs best of luck on the surgery and recovery. Florinda I assume you don't have regular internet right now....but thinking of you!
  15. Congrats Amieru! I'll be thinking of you Tuesday morning. I had a really good experience overall in Parker and I hope that you do, too. Woofay, I am so sorry that you're feeling ill and hope that you're better soon. There's an awful flu going around here. I think it's possible you're not getting enough vitamins/healthy food, but it could also just be bad luck. You work at a school, right? I never stayed sicker than the year I was a parapro at a primary school. Kids are germy! That's when I started carrying around hand sanitizer. Cara, I read some real horror stories before my surgery too. When I had my phone consult with Dr. K, I asked him about complications and he mentioned five. I thought that they were all port revisions, tube punctures and/or tubes leaking. I don't remember him mentioning a removal, but you should feel free to ask him during your consult. There is the possibility of something going wrong with any surgery. But by going with an experienced surgeon, doing your research and resolving to follow his instructions to the letter, you are reducing your risk. That's all you can do.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Susannah I am so sorry to hear of your complication. I can imagine your frustration of having to have revision surgery not to mention having to heal all over again. Just remember this time next year when you're slim and gorgeous all that you're going through now will be well worth it and a distant memory. I really hope everything goes well for you. Keep us informed of how things go.
  17. re: "I asked my doctor and he said that I could have the surgery on a Friday and go back that Monday. But the more I read on the internet I'm seeing that people take anywhere from 2-6 weeks!" My bet is the doctor estimate is right.... At 58 my surgery went so well I was headed home the same day, had a couple days recovery & by day 3 was (somewhat feebly, given) carrying a few bits of firewood in for the stove. I gladly returned to modified work by day 5. I've heard of a few folks needing as much as a week, but we are all different. IIRC, it was near the 3rd week postOp I went on a solo road trip of 4 or 5 days. Learning how to eat in mushie stage in a non-protected envionment was a challenge. Certainly read up on all options to your situation and explore any questions before you consent. Sleeve wasn't an option when I had my Band done in 2004....yet given a bit of hassle and annoyance at times, I'm satisfied it saved my life, and consider myself a Happy Bandster. Should the time come for revision, replacement or repair, certainly I would hope further advanatages were obtainable. As it is, the worst day of my PostOp Band life has been better than the Best day of the last 5 years PreBand. If anyone asks about the (small) port bulge, I tell them that's my Alien Implant. Good luck in your journey.

How was your 5:2 day today?

I am going to challenge you on this - in a caring way! You are very close to your goal range - every freaking middle aged woman in the developed world wants to weigh 10-20 pounds less than they do. I don't think you NEED a revision. I think you are expressing the same dang annoying thing I am experiencing. I can eat more. I like to eat - especially delicious food . I have to either up the activity or up my personal committment to eating "right" to get back to skinny chick zone. Ain't nothing like an amazing man in your life to tell you that you are the hottest ticket in town..haha... and i keep thinking, you should have seen me a year ago! ha! but i will take the compliment

How was your 5:2 day today?

Its been a long time since I have checked in - as usual Looks like there havent been a lot of folks responding lately on this thread but thought I would give you guys an update. As it turns out I have been having some ongoing problems that will require som more surgery. I have always had terrible gerd prior to and it seemed to get worse after the sugery. My lucky husband had his resolve completely after his vsg and hernia repair. I started seeing another bariatric doc last year, as my doc had moved to another practice and we moved as well. To make a very long story shorter - and the number of tests I've had done dwarf the first surgery - I will be having revision surgery on 11/22/16 - 11 days from now. I have a significant hiatal hernia, a stricture, and various other sundry things that will be repaired - gallbladder out and removal of stray sutures (which is goofy but that's what the photos after the last egd) My new surgeon is going to revise my sleeve a traditional Duodenal Switch. I had gained back about 30 lbs from my lowest weight. And it took just about a year to recover from the total knee replacement - what a nightmare that is, but at least I can walk again. Hopefully the hips and back wont hurt as much soon. Wishing everyone well and hope everyone is happy and healthy

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Katydid, when I was researching the band one thing came up about this WLS in Europe. The Europeans were going back to gastric bypass because of issues with long term bands. My fill doctor even said that it's a foreign object in your body and sometimes your body just wants it out of there. There is a lot to the band with the port and tubing and all that so it is definitely something to think about. I believe there are doctors that will do band to sleeve revisions, but from what I've read from you, you still have a lot of healing to do before that can happen. You don't have your band anymore do you?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

HI, I used Dr. Alexandro Cardenas in Monterrey. You can get in contact with him through Ready4Achange.com. I had a full face and neck lift with tweaks on my lips and ears. I had brachioplasty also. I paid around 7000 or so for all of it, it was a bit more but I can't remember exactly how much. I do know that his office staff will negotiate prices with you and he told me himself that the ears can be done as a part of the facelift without extra charge but the office staff charged me extra. We had a discussion about that and he ended up giving me a price break on the fat in my lips and face. So make sure you negotiate what ever before you go down there then if their are additional proceedures you want you will be sitting on your lowest price for the main work and negotiate the add ons. They take very good care of you. They have a driver that will get you back and forth to apts. but i think that he charges extra when he can. The nursing staff there is very welll trained. I met one who spoke perfect english as does the office manager. Dr Cardenas speaks excellent english and Dr Lozano who is the anesthesiologist went to high school in Houston and speaks perfect english with a southern accent to boot. The required stay for face lift is 10 days post. I stayed in the clinic one night and the hotel the rest. I hired a sitter through them named Angela who will act as your driver if you hire her. She is also a great nurse and tour guide. She charges $100 for 24 hours and $50 for a 12 hour shift. She does not speak much english but understands it quiet well. She is working on speaking it. She does not have a degree in nursing but gives excellent care for plastic surgery. I cannot say enough good things about Angela, she is skilled, smart and funny. So we had a lot in common. I have included her pics and the staffs pics in my plastic surgery album. You will want her services for the first couple of days unless you have someone who is a nurse accompany you. Just caring family is not sufficient support for a couple of days after plastic surgery. If you know anyone who needs banding the have a wonderful bariatric surgeon in Monterrey, Dr. Miguel Zapata. He did my rebanding. That was why I was in Mexico and had plastics there rather than in states. Although plastics are cheaper there, the cost of transportation, room and board and meals have to be factored in. I guess it just depends entirely on how it all stacks up in comparison to what you would pay in the states. I am not 100% satisfied with the work on my forehead. He was a bit conservative there and I am not crazy about the results, but he explained why he did it and we are talking about the possibility of him doing some revision next summer, but it is too early to say for sure that I will need it. Overall I love the outcome. I don't know that I would have liked the results if he had done a more drastic proceedure on my forhead. The difference in where I was and where I am now overall is amazing! I would defianately go back if I had it to do over again. Feel free to pm me if you want more specific information. If you contact ready for a change , tell Judy I reffered you. Good luck, Corliss

Wow. May 2007 has come alive today. Sorry to see so many are struggling. I had my band revised to a sleve in March 2010. Soooo much better. Same restriction 24/7. Much quicker learning curve. I hope all works out for all but if you are considering a revision I can tell you it was the right decision for me.

How was your 5:2 day today?

Hello! Sorry I've been away - been uber busy and I've been feeling a little down - the job I applied for was a no go... didn't get to the interview stage, which I was really gutted about as I would of like the experience. But I'm ok with it now... just gotta plod along and keep looking. I've picked myself up and dusted myself down and feel more positive again. At the end of term I took a coach/bus load of kids to Paris. The guy who originally organised it couldn't do it so they asked me to lead it... I was nervous of the responsibility but we had a great time and no dramas. The kids loved it, all 46 of them, and the other members of staff were really cool and did as I asked! Happy days. It was mine and my daughter's birthday yesterday... we had a great day. I have sorta resigned myself to the fact that it is her day now and go with the flow, so I spent the day running around after 11 teenagers... it was like being in work! lol. We had a BBQ for them and they all enjoyed themselves. Each went home with happy smiley faces! When the guests had gone, we say outside around the fire pit and drank tea - Betty had a can of Fosters...lol... apparently that is what 16yr olds do...lol. When I get chance I will post some pics - they are on my phone now and I want to put them on the puter. On the 5:2 front, I've been doing really well... not good in Paris and I did some damage limitation at the BBQ yesterday, but previously I've been getting in two really good fast days. Steve is still doing it with me and has got to a new low for him... jammy bugger... I have managed to get down to the top end of my bounce range again, but can't break the set point. I haven't been exercising over the last 3 weeks as I've been so busy, run down and have a lingering cold. Now we are off for another week (although I do have to go into work for two revision sessions) I will try to get to Curves a few times. I hope everyone is dealing with the major things that are going on... I wish I had words of wisdom but I don't... unfortunately. Oh and Cathy... I LOVE Banksy - I have a decal of the girl with the balloon in my kitchen! I would love to see that piece of graffiti art in Cheltnam! And as for the shape thing - I think I am back to my original pear shape that I was when I was a youngster! From looking at pics I would say my excess weight is lower body (not including my arms and the skin on them...grrr!)
