Is it possible to lose too much?
LoseItKacy replied to LoseItKacy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So update: I'm one week post op today and I weigh 224.5. So 10.5 pound loss in a week. I need to start moving more. I just cramp up really bad after a bit. I'm happy about how fast I'm losing because I really wasn't expecting this since i started at a smaller bmi. I start purée foods tomorrow and switch to only eating three times a day with protein shakes in between. It's going to be interesting to see how this effects my rate of weight loss. -
What I'm I doing wrong
Inner Surfer Girl replied to scarlep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are experiencing is a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Everyone experiences periodic stalls, and the first one usually occurs about three weeks post-op. We do not lose weight at a constant rate. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise when cleared (walking is great until you are able to do more strenuous exercise). If you are going to let the numbers in the scale drive you crazy, then consider weighing less often. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
I'm 6 weeks and I feel like I can eat a house at times! With my first pregnancy I wasn't this hungry at all. I'm scared that I'm going to gain all my weight back or a good piece of it (I'm 15 mos out and lost 150lbs during my journey). My go to foods that I eat for my protein heavy foods make me sick...I want carbs lol. anyone else having this issue?

Lost hardly anything in first month?
theonejess posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone hardly lost anything in the first month after surgery? I just hit 4 weeks post op today and I've only lost 5kg (11 lbs). My surgeon said in 4 weeks most people have lost between 8-12kg. I feel so broken as im not sure what I've done wrong. I've been following the plan almost perfectly, having enough Protein and Water but just am not moving anywhere. I've been stalled for the last week and a half already (and I know stalls are very common so I'm not too fussed at that), but I'm just concerned at the really small amount I've lost, considering this is meant to be the moment we lose the most the fastest. The surgeon said some people just lose really slowly but I have so much to lose, I did this to give it a kick start, not to lose as slow as I could without it.. My 3rd Week After Gastric Bypass Surgery
Baconville replied to Lucii24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just past 3 months out. My clinic's diet plan is one of the most restrictive I have seen on this site. I will tell the key to feeling well is Protein, Water and Vitamins. Make sure that you are getting all of your vitamins EVERY day. Do your best to get at least 60 ounces water a day and 50 grams of protein. You will work up to more. The water and protein is a GOAL. Don't beat yourself up if you don't make it every day. REMEMBER TO EAT PROTEIN FIRST! The sandwich might have gone down OK, but you need that space in your pouch for protein. Even now I only have one tablespoon of fruit, veggie, or starch with any meal. At three weeks 1 ounce of lunch meat was a meal. I still have not had more than a small bite of bread. You obviously have worked hard to have the surgery, and made it through. Call your clinic for help if you need it. You are just beginning this journey. I can tell you after three months that I have not felt as well as I do today in years!! RNY 6/25/13. HW 331; SW 292; CW 228; GW 150 -
6 months post OP and I'm kinda stuck in the process
Inner Surfer Girl replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely. When you have your six-month follow-up it should include a blood test to check your Vitamin levels. What is your Protein target? Are you reaching that daily? -
Nearly three weeks post op
LisaBillings72 replied to LilPnut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I hit a stall. Surgery on 6/13 was losing consistently then about 5 days ago just stopped. I am working out and drinking Water and doing Protein hoping this shakes off soon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
As I type this I'm drinking my first protein shake. Bought the Magic Bullet so I can make my shakes at work, and that little thing is great! I'm scheduled May 2 for the band and I'm starting to get nervous. Not so much about the surgery, but about failing. I didn't have to start my prep diet until Wednesday but im so scared about not losing 5lbs before my last dr appointment on 4/30. I have always had a large appetite and I'm nervous about being hungry while during this pre-op phase. I just have to try and stay focused.

Weight gain after 1 week post op
blizair09 replied to haliib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I would stay off of the scale for the entire first month. Nothing is going to be accurate because your body is desperately trying to heal. Just stick to your plan, walk, and meet your protein and water goals each day and eventually, the weight will come off. -
Calories per day - does your dr or rd give you a certain # of calories a day?
Elizabeth21 replied to DarleneCh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, yes and no. My focus is on getting 60 grams of Protein a day and on my plan I eat four times a day. I shoot for not exceeding 200 calories per meal. On average I end up eating about 600 - 700 calories a day. The protein is filling and satisfying so as long as you focus on lean Proteins and getting those as well as your fluids consumption in, you should do fine. Good luck! -
4 weeks out, tried some regular food
Jovie62 replied to Bruce Peter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to move into soft foods as well in weeks 4 to 6. Although when I have a lean protein like chicken I try to eat 3 to 4 ounces. Depending on what else I'm having with it. I'm not able to eat salads until the next phase only soft veggies -
2 short dizzy spells, a little scared
freelee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm exactly 3 weeks post RNY and the dr and nutritionist say I am doing great (need to keep increasing my protein). Last night in bed I turned over to continue reading my kindle and had @ 15 seconds of extreme dizziness and not being able to focus on the book, then I was fine. This afternoon after my nutritionist appt I went into the grocery store and on the way in, had to stop in the parking lot because I became dizzy and thought I was going to fall. It only lasted about 10 seconds.....I attribute that one to not have eaten soon enough, went in a bought some yogurt. When I came home, my husband took my blood pressure and it was 123/69 which everyone says is okay. Just wondering if anyone else has had these incidents, if it is dangerous, or somewhat normal? Just a little scared. Thanks for listening. I hope you can shed some possibilities on this. -
Please keep in mind that with either surgery it is just a tool. You won't be able to meet those goals if you don't change your lifestyle. However, I have found that getting sleeved has made it much easier for me to stick to a healthy eating plan than it was preop. The bypass will definitely help with some of your comorbidities particularly the diabetes and cholesterol since the changes to your intestines makes you absorb less of the food you eat. Good luck with whatever option you choose!

Yep, when I went to my 6 week check up, they told me I should be eating between 600-800 cal a day right now, thats why they wanted me to eat at least one more meal a day. I've been doing that since Wed. She also told me that when you constantly weigh yourself, you get too stressed out and somehow stress will hold back your weight loss. Of course, I still got on the damn thing today, lol. My NUT expressly told me not to force the calorie thing, she said as I go, I will just eat a little more at a time at a meal. I guess you really dont want to stuff yourself just to make 800. Its hard for me to get that extra meal in, you wouldnt think so, but I dont remember or Ive got so much going on. I decided to have a Protein bar in my purse at all times

Heider did my surgery also last Thursday 1/22.. Him and his staff are wonderful. Not to mention he's easy on the eyes :-P .. My experience sounds similar to yours. My pain never got bad enough to take the pain meds though. I hope you're hanging in there with the post op diet.. I know I'm SO sick of protein shakes. Can't wait to start the puree stage next Friday.. Good luck with the rest of your journey

FREE Premier Protein in Boston

Readers: be careful about meeting a stranger that offered you something online. This person seems to have joined only to ask someone for a meeting. No other posts. To the poster--you can sell things on eBay or Amazon. Or take a healthy walk and deliver that Protein to any of the many needy people here in Boston. -

Amazing job! Have you looked into insurance covered skin removal? Most have some option available to some extent, worth looking into if you haven't yet. -
Protein drink tastes like Starbucks
SleeveDreamer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink the vanilla or caramel Premier RTD protein drinks. I made some cold brew decaf concentrated coffee. Making cold brew extracts the acid from the coffee and tastes a little sweeter. I pour 4 oz. od the cold brew over ice and then pour in the 11 oz. of the vanilla or caramel Premier and it tastes just like a Starbucks iced latte! I started on regular food today so now am down to one protein drink a day, but doesn't even seem like a protein drink when I drink it this way. The Premier also tastes great with sugar-free flavored syrups added. Maybe some of you who are having trouble getting your protein drinks down will try this and like it better. They have a great cold brew maker on Amazon for 19.99. -

Easy to swallow vitamins/supplements
doppelganger posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so excited when my nutritionist said I could take pills instead of chewing multi's and Calcium at my 6 week check up. I found Carlson's mini tabs Multivitamins that I only have to take two, they have 100% of everything except Iron and calcium. I take 5 Solaray calcium citrate +D3 capsules throughout the day (totaling 1500mg) which are huge, Vitron C for 65mg of Iron (ferronyl Iron the same Iron BA uses in its vit/supp) at night. I also take a sublingual B12 and a dissolvable Biotin once a day. The above work OK (no issues whatsoever with the Biotin or B12) except the multi's get stuck sometimes and I have to gulp Water to get them down, they also make me nauseous if I don't have a bite or two of something prior and the Calcium's are so huge they trigger my gag reflex from time to time and they come back up with water. The Vitron C is the perfect size except it makes me have nasty burps on occasion. None of these issues are consistent, but when they happen it's disconcerting and something I would rather not go through if there are alternatives. I know some post surgery plans say Flintstone Vitamins are an option and I would love to only chew 3 lilttle Flintstones, but I have to have a Vitamin with copper, zinc and selenium Has anyone found any smallish multi's with iron, calcium or iron supplement that are easy on the stomach and esophagus? I know chewable's are always an option, but I'd rather find something that I can get locally and honestly if I have to chew those huge BA vitamins or taste another BA calcium chew I might hurl, plus bariatric specific vitamins/supplements are 2 and 3 times more expensive than most OTC options. My pre-op Upper GI did show a stricture and the barium pill they have you swallow did get stuck, but an EGD did not show anything and no abnormalities. My GI doc thinks I have esophageal spasms from time to time.
