  1. It ok to indulge every once in awhile but that everyday I was having the same problem I started eating chips and granola and my weight loss slowed to a crawl so I decided to go back to following my diet and I also cleansed my pouch by drinking liquid for 2 days and now I get in at least 100 grams of Protein and all my fluids in and increased my exercise and it's working Be careful, sugar is your trigger food you need to avoid it I'm 9 months out and down 101 pounds Good Luck Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk
  2. I get bouts of head hunger, I've found that mine usually happen when I've eaten things like Pasta, rice, or things like donuts during the day or the previous day. I fight head hunger by eating pure Protein - chicken, beef, or pork. I fill up on protein, and then if I still "have to have" carbs, I am satisfied with just a few bites. I have to be very careful of how much and what type of carbs I eat, even at 2 years post-op.
  3. I’m one week post op today and so tired of drinking. I can’t wait to chew on something again. I have my one week follow up tmrw morning With my surgeon and hoping he will put me on full liquids. I was actually hungry yesterday and tried some 1% milk with my protein powder instead of water and I got nauseated, fast heart rate, hot flashes and sweaty. It really scared me but I jumped in here and discovered I was having dumping syndrome symptoms. I loved milk prior to the sleeve and we’re not really supposed to have dumping syndrome like the bypass peeps, allegedly from what I’ve read on the net. So that kinda sucks.
  4. LULU I feel the same way... My sister had this surgery in May and she had the most gorgeous thick hair and even though it's still beautiful it has definitely thinned out. I ALREADY have thin hair so I'm VERY nervous abt this... Gonna just try my hardest to get as much protein as possible...
  5. Hang in there. I had mine Friday morning and came home Sunday. I was super quesy in the hospital and felt hunger pains actually in the hospital and still do but the pain is gone and the queasiness is completely gone. Try to take small sips of liquids often. See how it feels. You are getting used to a new stomach. You are probably dizzy because you haven't eaten and are weak. I feel more tired than anything, but am able to drink 4-6 ounces of liquid (cream soups or apple juice or protein drinks). Good luck to you.
  6. if you have an appointment at a month like I did, your NUT and team will help you make any tweaks you need to get moving again. for me, at that point I was struggling with constipation issues, once they were resolved I started loosing again. When I stalled again around 8 weeks I did a few days of logging my food on the app I log my exercise on. Realized I either needed to cut back on the walking a bit (the dog was running away from me sometimes) or eat a little more. cut a few workouts, and added a Protein snack, and boom, loosing again now, so maybe that was what was needed. I don't mind embracing a stall, but I don't want to move in and unpack.

  8. I agree with this. I would do something to shake my diet up to see if I could break the stall. Maybe considering doing the protein and green veg like suggested above and at the same time see if you can drop your calories below 1000? If breaks the stall, you can slowly move your calories back up to where you're more comfortable and see if there is a point where you stop losing again.
  9. I've been reading and following a lot of the posts. Trying to get as much information as I can. I had the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty done 12/13/18. I've been following the recommended diet. I'm about 6 weeks out and have only lost 10 pounds...total. I exercise by walking for 30 mins five times a week & go to the gym for an hour, 3 times a week. I saw the dietitian just over a week ago. She thought maybe I wasn't getting enough calories. I've been getting most of my water in & all my protein. She wants me to eat around 800 calories a day. 9 days later & I've only lost 1 pound. I'm getting discouraged. Anyone else have this happen? Or have some helpful information? TIA
  10. At 2 months I could eat about 2 to 2.5 ounces of solid Proteins and about 3 oz of softer foods. My main meals were about the same as what @@stacyrg1 listed.
  11. Usuallybu cant eat much even if u wanted to so im not counting calories. Water, Protein shakes, an egg here n there, some chicken. I may try yams soon. Tried rice n puked. Im 2 months since surgery. 1 pc of whole wheat toast i tried, 2 i cant. Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App
  12. hi, keep your chin up....michelle said it right...this is a small amount of time in the grand scheme of things. and when you are strutting around in your smaller size clothes...you will look at this as a mere pittance of time it really is worth it. i havent been able to eat for 2 mos due to some issues i caused after surgery...i live on Protein shakes, Soup and Vitamins... but i'm down 3 sizes and are feeling curves i havent felt in years. i know how you feel..i have been discouraged in the past 2 mos but i try to remember the end game. good luck
  13. Hello! You're just fine. I was sleeved on March 31st and I am in the same state. I was concerned but my surgeon explained it and said it is okay. For now: #1 get enough liquids in. If you can't get water down try some mio drops (non caffeinated) or some low cal gatorade. I have found it sits easier in my pouch than just plain water (plain water feels very heavy to me). #2 THEN focus on protein Your insides are healing, and there is a lot of swelling, and it prevents you from getting in all of the liquids you need. It was taking me a full day of sipping to drink 32 oz. As of yesterday... I can drink a 17oz bottle of water in about an hour. You will notice a significant difference when the swelling goes down and it starts to become easier. Dehydration is a high risk for you right now, so make sure you get in at least 32oz a day and keep working on the protein. Just keep working on it. I have really made an effort to have a bottle of gatorade in my hand at all times so that I can keep working on it. Today I drank: 3 premier proteins 34oz of water And i'm stuffed. I can't possibly put anything else into myself.
  14. I am a month post op and I cannot find food that I want to eat so I don't eat. I am tired of tuna chicken salmon so I just either have a protein chips, cookie, shake, or just liquids (like water, Powerade zero) chicken/vegetable broth, applesauce, sugar free jello, I even tried a pack of crackers, and tried a lunchable, & some watermelon NOTHING!!! Is satisfying me I mean I just don't want to eat wrong should I say.. so I guess my question is how did you guys eat a month post op(gastric bypass) I have lost 20 pounds this month and just trying to continue but as stated before don't want to take in nothing bad.
  15. Hi... Ho fat out are you? I had really bad pain a few weeks after surgery and it was from premixed Protein shakes. Those have lactose in them and after surgery my tolerance of lactose became nonexistent. Once I stopped that type of shake the pain stopped. Sent from my Moto G (4) using the BariatricPal App
  16. Yes, I felt that and called my office. I just had asthma reactions to the anesthesia and got practice on learning how to breathe deeply with a nebulizer. I don’t know your situation and suggest you call for help from your office or visit the ER with papers about your surgery so they don’t make do any stressful tests. You should have a nurse or service on call and a doctor to call you back within an hour from your surgical center. If you’re really worried just go to the hospital. Take your protein drinks, meds, and water. The interns work the weekends and it will be slow!
  17. My understanding is the diarrhea comes from getting rid of the fat. The fat doesn't just disappear into mid-air, so we mostly poop or pee it out. Usually around ovulation I get constipated and after ovulation I get very loose stool for a couple of days. I usually see a woosh when the loose stool happens and it stays off. I don't have IBS but going from constipation to having the opposite problem has started happening now that I've been sleeved. I've always had constipation problems before surgery since a very young age and surgery has only made it worse. I now mix fiber powder in my protein shakes to keep me regular and I go every day or two. I drink lots of water
  18. I'm allowed to begin my pureed phase on Tuesday. I'd like to hear from others what they think were some of their best pureed food options. I tend to do better with variety so I was thrilled when I went to full fluids because there was actual taste in the food.......I mean in the liquids.
  19. Hi Hopefulmom76, I am the same way. I had tremendous nausea after surgery and couldn't hold much of anything down. Now I am two weeks out, and I am getting close to 30g of protein and drinking a lot of water. I can have cup of soup (slowly)and usually don't finish it. I know I am not getting enough calories, but I am trying. Sipping everything slowly helps. I really cannot wait to have real food like I am reading people are enjoying in week 5 out of surgery!
  20. Hi, I'm looking for a good source to obtain free or low price sample packets of protein shakes without having to order shakes from individual vendors. Also, any suggestions on great liquid meals, I.e. soups, shakes, baby food (the stage when you go home and the two weeks after). I feel like I'm losing my mind now that the surgery is around the corner. Aaaahhh! Thank you in advance.

Period, constipation, stall or all of the above?

Water/fluid is key. Even if you use something like Miralax it really only works with lots of Water. Keep sipping. Staying hydrated, getting in all if your Protein, and staying off the scale are the best things to do right now. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

4 Months Out And Just Not Sure What To Eat Anymore

i am with you 100%- am am 4 1/2 months out and really dont know what to eat anymore either. my life originally was just chicken breast and protein drinks all day. unlike some i do have the urge to eat, i dont know why this is because i dont eat a lot but i feel at times that i should not be wanting food as i do. i eat a lot of fruit which i know have a lot of sugar but it is just so refreshing. i always look at the "the world according to eggface" blog, she does have some cool things on there. i keep trying to make my diet healthy but also as normal as possible, as i am a mother of 4 children, and really hard to always eat things that are so differn then the family! i love reading everyones advice totally helps me out also as a fellow 4 month post op sleever!

4 Months Out And Just Not Sure What To Eat Anymore

At 4 months post op, I had zero appetite, zero interest in food. I ate greek yogurt, cottage cheese with pineapple, Protein drinks or bars. I also had chicken on a small salad, or a tuna salad or something like that. I could eat chicken breast or beef or whatever, but i just had a very low food drive at that time. My focus was just to be sure I got enough water/fluids and protein and just didn't worry about the rest. Like you, crackers were easy and I sometimes had them, but generally just kept them out of the house since they really don't add a lot of nutrition. Now 8 months out, I eat pretty normal healthy type food, in small quantities, still protein first, and no longer feel like food is too much of a bother type thing.
  25. Portion your chips or crackers and only eat them after Protein. If you eat your protein first, there will be less room. If you start with the slider, such as chips and crackers, you will fit a lot more in before you get full. Your breakfast should have more protein. One egg is 7 grams. Mix in some lowfat protein and have a glass of fatfree milk or soy milk during the morning. For easy to eat meals, here are some of my favs: For veggies, which I have with lunch and dinner: Can of V8 if I'm too busy to eat veggies Handful of raw veggies such as snap peas, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes. I also buy romaine and clean it by cutting it at the base, rinsing and drying. I put the leaves in a baggie and then use them as needed for salads, sandwiches, and lettuce wraps. I also like zuchinni, brussel sprouts, brocolli heads, frozen green Beans, and frozen mixed vegtables. It's easy to just cook at little of them and to buy a small amount. For fruit, which I have with breakfast and as a snack: I cut up a small watermelon or cantelope Wash grapes I buy a little of pretty much whatever is in season - I love fruit. but I couldn't eat anything except melons till I was about 6 months out. At first, fruit was too acidic. For protein: Fat free plain greek yogurt made into a shake with a couple of strawbberries, some splenda, a splash of OJ and some Water. Pair with whole wheat toast or oatmeal (couldn't eat oatmeal till about 6 months out) Lowfat string cheese with lowfat lunchmeat wrapped around it. Special K Crackers. Sandwich: 1 slice whole wheat bread with lowfat mayo and honey mustard, Rotissiere chicken: I use it salads, in stir fries, and mixed into canned Soup to up the protein. Sometimes I buy the premade salad bowls and then add chicken. Ground beef: I portion up a pound putting each portion in a baggie. Then I squish the baggie flat and freeze. It thaws in 30 minutes. Pork chops: I portion them into one chop per baggie and freeze. I fry stuff in a little fry pan, tossing in some veggies at the end, or I grill it on a little countertop grill and grill veggies with the meat. I love good food and I was used to cooking small amounts for myself because my husband's tastes have always been different than mine. Lynda
