I have had the same experience. I had a fill on 6.12.08 of .5cc which took me to 7cc in a 10cc band. I really did not feel much different until about 2 weeks ago. In the morning when I drink my protein shake I can feel it go down. That keeps me full until lunch time. I have noticed that I have to chew even more now, as I feel tighter. However, just today I felt like I did not have as much restriction, but it has been a month since the last fill, so I am hoping to make an appt. to get another .5cc. Hopefully that will be the "sweet spot". Good Luck!

This is a recipe that I found on the Lapband.com website. I made these for a BBQ I had yesterday and my guests couldn't stop raving about them (banded and non banded alike)! Pepperoni pizza Bites Serving size: 1 bite recipes makes 24 Ingredients 1/2 cup shredded pizza blend cheese 1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese 1/4 cup fat-free cream cheese, softened 1 tablespoon olive oil mayonnaise 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 2 scallions, chopped 2 ounces pepperoni, finely diced 24 round won ton wrappers 1/2 cup pizza sauce Directions 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. 2. Combine pizza cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, mayonnaise, oregano, and scallions in a food processor until smooth. Stir in pepperoni. 3. Gently press won ton wrappers into prepared muffin cups, allowing won ton edges to extend above sides of the cups. Spoon 1 teaspoon pizza sauce into each cup, then add 1 rounded teaspoon pepperoni mixture into each cup. 4. This thread helped me! I had my 1st fill yesterday (3.5cc), and I was starving last night and today so I ate some mushies even though I am still supposed to be on liquids. I get full quickly, then hungry fast again. I of course called the nurse, and she said that I was a few fills away from the "real deal" in my 10cc band. She also said I probably would not stay full on three meals and would need to add some protein shakes or snacks. I do wish they would tell you this at the time of the fill, but I guess they do not want to open the door to any extra eating. Reading this made me think maybe something will "kick in" this weekend and I will not be ravenous.

Hello, My dad just had the band done last month with Dr. Neal; and I am currently going through the pre stages. My dad is very happy so far and is one of the reasons why I have decided to really examine this option. I have also heard no complaints about Dr. Neal. Also, I think the cut off is a BMI of 40 unless you have health issues caused by your weight then its 35. Cannot quote though, that is just what I have read on a few sites. Loup

I really needed to read the exchanges regarding this subject today and I'm so glad I did. It sounds like I am not alone. I had my band implanted on May 20. I had my first fill of 2 cc added to my 10 oz. band on June 27. I don't feel hungry for meals or in-between meals, but I seem to have little to no restriction for eating things that I was hoping for. The thing that is very discouraging is that I have not lost any weight since my fill. I'm still at 261. I seem to be a plateau of some kind. I am grateful for this because I normally go UP and UP with my weight. I have lost 26 pounds so far but I'm anxious to lose more. I've been the same weight for 3 weeks. I have another fill in a few weeks and I hope that will give me more restriction. I want to be restricted because I eat so much less and it scares me. I don't return to the insanity of gaining/losing, etc. Ths concept that the restriction "kicks in" is very interesting to me. My doctor said after my first fill to go on liquids for 24 hours (Soup, Protein drinks) which I did but after the 24 hours passed, I realized I could eat almost anything. I am still on track in many ways (eating good things and exercising) but I wonder if this restriction will kick in soon or I will have to have several fills before the restriction takes effect. I encourage others that are ahead of me to write in their experience regarding this subject of feeling restricted with foods and fills.

Ok this is a crazy question ... and I am not trying to be immature or gross anyone out. But what's up with bowel movements and the band!! I have had a few bowel movements since being banded (Feb 6th a week 2morrow) but it's kinda forced. Called the Dr he said get some Phillips Milk of Magnesium and I did ... I kinda had runs for like 2-3 days cause I am still on liquids. But why isn't it like everyday like it used to be pre-band?!?! That scares me ... I am smart enough to know that my bowels are supposed to move atleast 2-3 times per day! Has this affected anyone else ... will it change soon. But I do hear alot of noises in my stomach than I did before I was banded LOL dont know whats going on in there LOL! But glad to say I am now down 27 pounds! Ready to get rid of this 6 pounds before I go back to the docs office on the 25th. I wanna be 299 or below LOL! I know it sounds crazy but I haven't seen the 2's in yrs! But please help I wanna take a sh!t LOL :scared2:... oh yeah and I must admit I have to get more water and protein in ... I will start 2morrow I have to pick up some more protein!:wink2:

I Kno This Might Be Sick But
karenb4729 replied to mbasile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
10 days... I ended up needing Milk of Magnesia and then Miralax. I took Miralax every other day for about two weeks to just keep going but now I have no problems and have a movement every day. Just remember along with the protein to try to get in some whole grain to keep things on the move when you are able to eat. -

1. What are/were your biggest challenges during the weight loss process? (insurance, medication, surgery, maintenance etc): Insurance, especially when they stopped covering lap band adjustments That was one of the main reasons I went ahead with the band to sleeve revision. I just couldn't afford $300 per 0.2cc adjustment, sometimes 2 in one week. It was just too expensive for me. 2. What would you like to have different to solve the problems that you need to face? And why? (new weight loss medication, new surgery approaches, more support groups, new insurance plan etc.): Better insurance plans for WLS patients. Although I know they are aware of how detrimental being overweight is, and I am grateful they cover WLS more now... I still feel that they don't cover enough of the additional things (i.e. fills/adjustments, removing extra skin, therapy, post-op shakes for just the liquid phase of healing) that one needs to further maintain their health. It's like helping an addict for one hospital stay and then putting them out on the street with no further help. Some may make it, and others will slide again. If the insurance companies can keep the WLS patients healthy, they would further save on all the future medical problems of those patients. 3. How much money do you spend for weight loss every year? (food, exercise, support groups, medications etc): Over $2K per year but now that I got the revision to sleeve, it'll be less money spent since I don't have to do lapband adjustments but just routine check ups (doctor check ups, Vitamins and other supplements, meds like PPI, Protein powders). 4. How did you learn about the surgery/medications that you had/used/are using? My bariatric center gave me lots of handouts and a book on everything that I need for the revision surgery (band to sleeve). We also had a nutrition class. I also read a lot on the forums (mainly experiences that others feel that are not usually in a book), and read many scientific and clinical studies. -
I have drunk beer since being banded. It is important not to drink it to quickly and NOT to drink it straight from a bottle or can. This is true of soda pop too. If you DO drink anything carbonated be SURE that you have not eaten right before or shortly after - I find that the carbonation tends to make the gassyness of food increase sort of exponentially and that can be VERY uncomfortable. Everybody's milage varies on this count. The band does NOT mean you can never touch the stuff again, you just have to decide for yourself if it works for you - and if not if the discomfort is worth it. Keep in mind that beer and sugared sodas are liquid CALORIES and allow you to "eat around" your band in the caloric intake department. Even if you CAN you may not WANT to. My husband and I went on a long weekend to Prague and I gained SIX pounds in four days drinking the local beer and just generally taking a holiday from the band. I think a lot of that was simple Water weight but it made me RETHINK the whole beer thing, LOL!!!! The weight all came back off by the following week but it was a real eyepopping discovery the morning after we got home and I stepped on the scale! It is true about savoring the flavors of things when eating slowly. I find that if I have a SERIOUS chocolate craving I am satisfied with a single small piece - which I generally break up and nibble squirrel style. I try not to do this often, but I find I am MUCH more successful when I allow myself ONE daily treat of under 50 calories. I don't do it every day anymore because there are many days now that I simply don't have any urge for sweets and I am more interested in Proteins. That has blown me away really, I did not expect it to be so easy to give up my old favorites. These days I tend to find many of the things I used to like a bit too sweet. My tastes have ACTUALLY changed. I guess you can see that I am LOVING this band of mine. Don't worry. This band is NOT the end of all thigns you like to eat forever. You can succeed and still have the ocassional treat, you just have to learn to modify your behavior. This is NOT an all or nothing solution to your weightloss problem. You get out of it the effort you put into it. You know?

Hi there. I hit a six week stall 3 weeks out from surgery. Also had a period that loong too, on and off. Things finally became adjusted and I dropped 17 pounds in two days. Since then it has been a pound a day or so. It's all good. I 'll take it. The stalls are temporary and will pass. Stick to what you are doing, and when the first pound goes again, up your Water and Protein to stop with any body shock again. Best advice I can give. Good luck and keep up the good work. Leslie

Thanks for sharing Debi, always looking for good proteins and things that are different to eat.

I'm 2 weeks post op and it takes me about 4 or 5 different sittings just to get one Premier Protein shake in. I need to focus on protein for the healing process as you do as well. I would substitute cottage cheese or yogurt for the oatmeal... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've been putting a tablespoon of sugar free instant pudding mix into my protein shakes. It's delish! So far my fave is vanilla protein powder and pistachio pudding mix.

Which liquid diet is best for pre op and post op?
RealityCheck replied to tcbgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 9 of a 2 week pre-op liq. diet, I do EAS AdvatEDGE shakes. They only have 2 net carbs and 17g of Protein (lucky me my surgeon requires low carsd, Protein Shakes only). The chocolate seems to be the best, and I think I am going to take the advice of someone up there and put it in the freezer! Initial Eval: 09/08 Post-Op: 01/09 LAGB: 02/09/09 -
Having trouble with Calcium Citrate. What do you use?
catwoman7 replied to Thecloude1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use Upcal D (a powder you can mix into food), Calcet chews, and Bariatric Advantage chews. I also occasionally drop a couple of calcium citrate tablets into a fruity Protein shake (they don't dissolve as well in the milky shakes) -
Do you eat your Protein first? Are you eating real protein like chicken, shrimp, tuna, steak, pork, eggs, etc? Are you following the 30-30 rule? liquid shakes and things like crackers and bread do not make you feel full.

Hello, I am Colleen and I am on countdown to banding and I am SO excited, but nervous as because of a previous abdominal surgery and the horrible scars that DR. left, my surgeon and myself along with my Honey-man have decided that I will have an open procedure and up to 3 days in hospital. My surgeon is DR. Tommy Shelton, he is in Somerset, KY. I am on my pre-surgery protein shakes and enjoying them:ohmy:. I am sure I will have tons of questions a day or so before my surgery. I was so happy to find this forum.

Too much restriction?
Fullofitx3 replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 2 1/2 years out and can only eat around 1000 calories, but it also depends on what I eat, when I stick to dense proteins I get full fast and stay on track, when I eat junk i can start racking up the calories. -
Had a weak moment and Ate food during my 2week fast ugh!
ladyd728 replied to katierichie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, one morning I had an omelette from chick-fil-a and once I had a salad but I made sure I ate protein when I did cheat. I never cheated with have junk food. You will be fine, they aren't going to cancel your surgery. Just stay focus, you only have a few more days left. -
I don't know what happened to me today! It started off good with my protein shake for breakfast and went downhill from there. I felt extra hungry today. Had a small piece of thin crust pizza for dinner and felt full but before I knew it a few hours later I'm having another and then a small piece of cake then later a 3rd piece of pizza and the icing off a cupcake. It is really insane when im thinking about it. I haven't ate like that in 4 months!!! Tomorrow I will be back on track but I'm just thinking wtf happened?? Where did that come from?

Getting Ready To Be Banded!
Debbie1955 replied to kerryconner's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I found this site with a lot of recipes for protein shakes on it. I have no idea how to start a "new thread"??? So I thought I would add it to this one and if you think it is worth passing on maybe one of you can do it. I am not sure if it is the kind of shakes evryone is talking about. I am new at all of this. Protein Shake Recipes -
i was also allowed to eat soups and i made all these ones with organic chicken, asparagus, and baby english spinach blah blah blah, but to be honest, after banding, i really had no appetite, i had to have soups for 3 weeks, and in the end i could not stomach the ones i made, and ended up only having protein shakes, see how your feeling, because i really couldnt stomach any thing heavy or rich in flavour. you will surprise yourself, as to how little to no appetite you will have for the first 2-3 weeks. good luck with your journey. but do a google search for what ever types of soups float your boat. take care and good luck. jo.

I don't necessarily think that your too tight but its all how you feel. It is normal to not be that capable of too much solid in the morning. That is why so many people drink Protein shakes but this is not always the case. Some can eat because they have lighter fills. Usually if you are at your sweet spot you are satisfied with less. I can get stuck very easy especially between Breakfast and lunch. I have about 8cc in an 11cc band. I have been banded for 18 months and have lost 108lbs. Breakfast usually for me is a Protein shake/smoothie/yogurt/oatmeal. I haven't had eggs in a long time because they are too much in the morning. For example yesterday; I had a half cup of yogurt and a piece of granola about 9ish. It might have had a bite or two of fruit in it Lunch was at a turkish rest...so maybe 3 or 4 bites of meat, Soup and a pinch of salad...all that fit on a small saucer. I ate too big of a chunk (pencil eraser size is what you are supposed to) and got a minor stuck. Stucks dont really bother me, its quick. dinner I went to California pizza Kitchen with coworkers and had fish tacos....they are small and healthy and was able to eat the contents of both and a small cup of tortilla soup and 3 bites of tiramasu. I was actually surprised over how much I thought but it was pretty healthy and still was less on the scale this morning. This saying....I am pretty restricted until dinner which according to dr is normal..the band loosens up by evening. I think the chicken and half salad was about right.. If you could eat that without chucking, then you arent too tight. The fries are starchy and dense on the other hand and can cause sticking but since you ate them later in the evening, you had a better chance. That is why many bandsters eat light, healthy options by day(I choose stuff that is healthy that wont get stuck) and then eat a even more solid dinner.

How do i get enough protein in my diet when I can only eat a few bites
apositivelife4me replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went on Amazon and bought a 12 pack of Pure Protein drinks. They have 35 grams of protein per can. They are chocolate flavored.
