I agree Kristen.....rest up! Feel better soon! Kathy, you are doing soooo great! I am taking the weekend off. I had another stomach virus yesterday (I think). My stomach has been bothering me a lot lately. I started taking Metformin again and I'm wondering if that is why. I'm not gonna take it for a few days and see if that helps. Whosya.....WE WON!!! YAAYYY! My first Nike+ victory....couldn't have done it without ya Whosya! Renewed....hope the moving is still going well. How is your tummy since the revision??

MacMadame, You are not letting me down AT ALL!! I have felt as though I am letting you down since I have gone into my nothing mode. Keep it up! You are doing great!! Georgia, I have never lost any fluid that I know of. I am doing good today. I am a little sore. After this "minor" revision I have 33 staples. My doctor actually did revision on 2 areas instead of one. I am very pleased. I have done very well with my eating today and actually feel a little more focused. I am going to take the rest of the week to recover from my procedure and then I will start my new routine on Monday. My goal will be consistancy. I am actually looking forward to getting going!

I got my band in Dec 09 and I lost 40+lbs but then nothing. Band was tight bc like u I would puke probably 3-4 meals a week. At 211 I just felt like I failed though much healthier than 260. I went to Mexico for a revision to gastric sleeve. The sleeve surgery was 5k and I paid an extra $500 for band removal. Best decision! I am 6 weeks or so out and down to 186 pounds. Good luck whatever u decide!

Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge
DeezJeanz replied to vsgSarah3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well 1Cor, it DEF will happen, and yes it's a part of the process. But I hope that knowing that we've all been there and survived it will encourage you to just let it happen, keep working out and eating right, you're doing gr8! Just remember how b4 surgery, we gained, not stalled but gained and at least now after the surgery, you know that it too shall pass and Lord willing, you'll be back to losing. As much as we all dreaded it, it's actually a good thing for our bodies to be able to rejuvenate, recharge and reset after such massive weight losses. Although the docs, and praise God for them, had done something to our bodies to help us with significant weightloss, God made this temple and thank God that He won't allow more on our bodies than it can handle! Hopefully I gave encouragement to you and not just rambling on, at least that was my goal. I'm a revision from sleeve to bypass due to 2yrs suffering from vomiting due to severe acid reflux and a stricture and guess what, 3 weeks out exactly, my body stopped losing! It just has to happen:) and now I'm going on my 5th week and started back losing, not that that's my ultimate goal now but I still want to lose a little bit more. Take care and hang on and in there with us. We have your back!! -
What was your "Yep. I'm getting WLS." moment?
KeepCalm replied to GranadoM74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was - 9 years ago when my dad died in 2007 of a massive heart attack at the age of 53 because he had diabetes/severly overweight (close to 400lbs) and he was a heavy smoker... I decided that I didn't want to die at 53 as I was already close to being the same weight as him and I was 23 years younger. I wanted to live to be able to play with my nephew and teach him everything my dad taught me and wouldn't be able to now... So, I decied on the lap band because the sleeve wasn't available to me back then. I had decent success, I lost weight - which was my goal - wasn't a complete success as I didn't lose 50% of my weight but I still lost some. Now, I want to do the revision to the sleeve and continue my weight loss and continue to become healthier, so that I can continue tplay with ALL my nieces and nephews now - three of which my dad never got the chance to meet and I don't want them to miss out on knowing him through me as my sisters had a different type of childhood with him then I did. I was the first and his subsititue boy - so I learned everything - they were the girls -

Why does the sleeve fail?
Heather B replied to GottaDoSomethin''s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine worked for about a year and then I went crazy. I had an extreme amount of stress and was always a stress eater; I overate. After the sleeve I could no longer eat large portions but I could eat anything. Nothing made me sick or disagreed with my sleeve. I began eating entire bags of candy in a day mutliple times per week. I gained back 65% of my weight in a year. My sleeve was done becuase I was too high risk for the RNY and he did not think I could lose all 300 lbs with one suregery anyway. I was always to have a second surgery but with the gain, I had no choice, there was just an added element of embarassment. It boils down to not following the rules. For the first year, I was vigilant and tracked everything and then it all went out the window. I have now been revised to the RNY and hope to have dumping syndrome (but do not intend to test it). I beleive I have learned from my mistakes and now know how serious my sugar/junk addition really is. I can NEVER touch those things again. I also must "diet" for life and track my food. -
You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I am new to the forum and I had Revision surgery April 25 (lap band to bypass). It is a struggle but the reward will be great.

I recommend Dr. Carlton at Lonestar Bariatrics. He does all of the surgeries! My surgery date is 5/20 and I will be revising from the sleeve to the dswitch. -

4 yrs post VSG to RNY
Chel1 replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@GreenTealael Thanks for your post. How was your weight loss after the revision? Many have said they didn't feel any restriction like with the sleeve which was my concern. I am currently on my pre-op diet for this week, my revision surgery is scheduled for Monday Aug. 28th. -

GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My weight remained around the same but I had a revision at my goal weight. Also my surgeon was modest with the length of my bypass (less than 150) because he was adamant that I shouldn’t lose more much weight (his preference from his experience- YMMV) For me, It is not the same restriction as the VSG. The VSG was a mid chest tightness like something was stuck. RNY feels like a lower abdomen fullness of eating way too much. I always try to stop before I get to that point. But I can eat pretty much the same amount with the RNY as with the VSG. I hope that helps ❤️ -

GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a rough recovery from VSG (a solid 2 weeks of strong pain) and the revision was much easier (maybe 3 days of mild pain) Honestly the only thing I remember being harder was bathroom issues (constipation/frequent urination) immediately post op. -
I'm getting revision don end of December. I hear the pain is worse than regular bypass because of scar tissue. Is this the case?

I remember taking a PFT back in 2001 before my original surgery. My surgeon at the time said it was to make sure I could handle the anesthesia without being intubated because intubation makes things more complicated. The revision I just had didn't require much pre-op tests just the barium swallow, endoscopy, CBC work up & an EKG. Best of luck on your journey it's so worth it and it works if you work it Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

188.1...I don't think I'll make my original goal of 180, but hopefully I'll make a revised goal of 185. Yay!

Anyone had surgery greater than 5 years ago?
catwoman7 replied to sdtoin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't think I've ever heard of a bypass to sleeve revision. I do hear of the other way around (sleeve to bypass), but that's usually because of problems with GERD. And yes - I've heard of bypass to DS, but like the poster above said, it's a very complicated surgery that very few surgeons are trained/qualified to do. -

Good to know you are doing good! You said you did the revision at your goal weight, did you lose Ms more weight after the revision or stay the same? -

newbegining2024 replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
May I ask if the reason for revision was for gerd or acid reflux? Just curious because after my sleeve o developed gerd, and I also need to loss some weight. One week post the RNY which is when I introduced soft food, I can feel the reflux at night when I lay down. It’s like something in the back of my throat and my chest feel tight. I don’t know if the reflux is a imidiate fix or not. I have to ask my doctor when I see him again. And how long was the bypass was never discussed. I didn’t know there is actually the length that I can discuss… I feel like there is a lot I could have ask and didn’t. At my one week post op visit, I had many questions, and maybe I was showing some anxiety, and of course the doctor and nutritionist sensed it. They just told me to keep clam? Let my body heal and don’t think about the weight loss right now. -
Rabbits and Turtles United New Year Challenge
DevilMayKare replied to It's me-Debbydo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay, I'm in for this challenge. Sadly, I had to go revise my ticker UP since the end of the Fall challenge. I've put off doing this as it SOOOO discourages me, but time to get clean and BACK to work... or working out as it were. My exercise was minimal over the holidays and omigosh WHAT a difference it makes. It's not like I don't already KNOW that. Since I always feel so much better when I'm working out regularly why the heck to I take breaks from it? Oh well, I'll try to stop beating myself up now. If I can go a week without feeling dissapointed in myself it would be a BIG NSV. An even 180 to start. By the end of this challend I want to in the 160's. -
Julie, you went on vacation and still managed to lose, that is awesome! I hope your new plan for the gym goes well. I can barely get myself out of bed in the morning to go to work, let alone work out. Fortunately for me though, I am home by 5:30 so have plenty of time to exercise, fix dinner, help kids with homework and hang out with the family. I had no idea about my port. My first fill went great, he was able to get right in with no problems. On my second, nothing would happen and that is when we learned it had flipped. So, off to surgery tomorrow for a revision. I am anticipating everything will go well. And, he is going to give me a fill during the surgery too, which I am really looking forward to because I need one bad!

Newbie - Thinking of band to sleeve revision w/ Dr. Aceves
Oregondaisy replied to bethicle's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I followed Dr. Aceves post op diet to the letter. Since he did your revision, I sincerely doubt you need to worry about a leak. He has never had one, so I can't see any reason why you would be his first. On my 10 days of full liquid, I had egg drop Soup from the Chinese restaurant. I had a lot of different Protein shakes and tomato soup with cottage cheese blended in a blender so that it was smooth and creamy. I also had yogurt. On my 10 days of soft foods, I ate a lot of chicken salad, tuna salad and egg salad. I choose whatever foods were on the list I was given. When I moved to solids, I decided I didn't like the feeling so I stayed on mushies longer and tried a couple bites of solids per day. It was not easy in the beginning. I got full from 2-4 bites of food. One time I ate some fish and thought I was going to explode. I needed to learn to stop eating before I felt full. I was much more full 20 min after I was done eating than I was at the table. I bought those little cans of already made chicken salad. I looked at my portion on my plate and imagined if it would fit in that can. If it was more than that, I knew I would be sorry later. I am much better now at knowing when to stop. I can eat anything I want and I just know by looking at it when to stop. It's hard to get a full signal Feel free to ask anything you need to. We are all happy to help! -
I've been to Dr. Aceves twice for surgery, as well as my sister having surgery by him the same day as my first surgery. Both Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos excel in compassionate skilled care. The staff is very responsive to any needs you may have and their on-site patient coordinator, Yolanda, is a gem. I was there last Monday for my revision surgery from Lapband to VSG. I went totally alone, not having a family member that could go along and the friend that was planning to help me got terribly sick with the flu. I still went for surgery and I never had a doubt. From the moment I was picked up at San Diego Airport until the moment I was returned I knew I was in safe hands.
