Just got home from my second endoscopy. (stricture)
pik replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a lot of other health issues and I think the first dr was going for the band because it is something that could be reversed if need be. He does all of the surgeries. I somehow seemed to get him on call when I ended up back in the hospital a couple of times. He did a friend of mines sleeve and her husbands bypass and they have done fine. My dr just kept telling me to have patience because he felt like my hernia repair was a little tight and needed time to loosen but I felt like it must be a stricture. I even told him a couple of weeks ago things were tightening up again and he kind of acted like that couldn't be the case. I am so thankful for the first dr. He is the only one that is listening to me these days! He is being pro-active at this point and even admitting that none of them appreciated the fact that it could have been a stricture so early in the game. You know I lost some weight prior to the surgery and the rest after. I also had a 3 week stall. -
I was leaning toward the sleeve but after talking with the surgeon have decided on bypass. My surgery is scheduled for 12/1 and I can hardly wait. I have some medical comorbidities that have been getting worse in the past 7 months. I just want to be out of pain and get my life back.

One of the things my surgeon wanted me to do was to have a meal with a person that had had the surgeries I was considering. It was my homework assignment. Ironically, I had done that before seeing her. I had dinner with a guy 3 months out from the sleeve and one year out from the bypass. Granted the time they were postop made a huge difference, but it definitely swung me toward the bypass. He could eat a cup of food, was more compliant than the sleeve and seemed happier. I'm also basing this on the knowledge of the individuals too....I don't know but maybe it could be enlightening for you somehow.....

Beginning my journey ????????
TrelawneyDawn replied to Stace_wow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I started my six-month stint the first week of December. I am getting a revision from lap-band. I actually had my lap-band removed December 22. I'm going for by-pass this summer. I'm glad to meet you and everyone here. Dawn -
Good Morning All.... I had my bypass on May 5th, so tomorrow morning I will be exactly one week out. It has definitely been a week of ups and downs (although mainly ups). Surgery went better and quicker than expected as I also had a large hernia repaired at the same time. I also was released from the hospital a day earlier than I had expected. So things were looking great! Thursday was great but Friday was my day from hell. Everything hurt so bad, and I felt that I could barely move. By Sunday I felt like I was back on the upswing. I was able to walk my block outside without having to stop and catch my breath. I could stand up without feeling like my stomach was dropping to my feet and I was able to enjoy a wonderful mother's day with my family. This morning was the first morning I didn't struggle to roll over in bed or have pain sitting up to get out of bed. So I think I'm starting off my week great. Just one problem...... I still have not gone to the bathroom since surgery. Is this normal? I know I have only had liquids, and am peeing regularly. I am a little concerned as before surgery I took Milalax every morning with my coffee. Maybe I should start taking it again?? Any advice? (btw, down 10 pounds since surgery and 34 pounds total! )

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. I had THE SAME issue with water. Found that I love Fiji water. Its expensive but it tastes like something. I was told with the revision (coming up TUESDAY) loss would be slower than the first time around. Kind of like... our body is onto us. Try sugar free Popsicles and jello to get more liquids in. You got this!

Screw It! I'm Ready For This!

Dana, you just MADE MY DAY! Thank you! We are now life long friends. You laughed at my joke and you said I was pretty... I think it is great to be able to laugh at ourselves, even when we have pain in our lives. It is therapeutic. I always say, "well we could either laugh about this or cry". I definitely would rather laugh, it is much more fun than walking around feeling sorry for ourselves. Although, I do like to hold a good pity party for myself every once in a while! Well no worries about your husband having to fit you for a special oversized coffin or have a closed casket. I seriously doubt you will die having this surgery. You are going to ROCK your new sleeve. We will both have to revise our funeral plans for wearing something FABULOUS when the time comes....which I hope will be a really, really, really long time from now! -
No worries...yes, i had mine in 2007....i was a self pay...insurance didn't even know what it was back then. I also had it done in San Francisco, and my husbands ex-wife is a bariatric nurse so I sorta had an "in" with a surgeon. When I moved to Vegas 2 yrs later...and even until now I have to explain what it was because people here are...well...to be nice...set in their ways.... Fascinating! After almost 3 years on these forums, you are the longest term sleever I've ever seen! I've seen a lot of long term bypass peeps, like my hubby who is 10 years out, but never a sleeve! So tell me, how is your restriction at 10 years out? What would you say your portions are now? Like me at over 2 years out, I would say my max is a cup, depending on what it is.

Bypass is supposed to be the gold standard they say. Statistically you will get the best results with the bypass. That's what I'm going for. -
I’m 4 weeks post bypass and I feel like when I drink water it causes me pain. Almost feels like a terrible gas pain or a hunger pang. But it takes a few minutes to go away. It’s interfering with my hydration. I’m not sure why or what to do. Anyone go through this? Any advice?

I know of a gal who had bypass. She also lost all taste for coffee after years of being a big fan. Five months post-op, she now likes iced coffee, but not hot coffee. She never liked iced coffee before! So, it's just another anecdote that our tastes may bounce around wildly for a while. I'm wondering if any folks become sensitive to odors post-op, to foods, fragrance, whatever... I'm a coffee fan, so I will just keep trying coffee again every month if it happens to me.

Good Reasoning, I Think, come, join me in Bypass Junction where we are Kangaroos for we all have pouches. We think that it is better than being gastric deficent like sleevers who have a 1/4 of their original and digest through a garden hose diameter object. But there are bonus and detriment with both. As the old carnival barker stated " You pay your money, you make your choice" just make very sure choice is one you were willing to make! -
Vsg to mgb?!
bikerchick519 replied to Builtbetter78's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve and then due to acid reflux and my sleeve stretching I got the mgb. Unfortunately for me the reflux got worse after the mgb so now I'm getting a full bypass on Feb 3. What I can tell you was different for me was with the sleeve I had no pain and lots of energy. With the mgb I was really sore for at least a week and I was exhausted for at least 2 maybe 3 weeks. It also took longer for me to go from one phase to the other like clear liquids to full liguids, etc. I had to work harder to get my water in also, really small sips. I also found out about dumping which I didn't have with the sleeve. Hardly any sugar and I was laying down, sick to my stomac, heart racing, head spinning and then exhausted like an adrenaline dump. You learn quickly to avoid sugar! It gets better over time but here I go again with the revision. -
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield BcBs Requirements Link
Brian_Rodriguez posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi All, I work for Verizon Wireless, and have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (BcBs). My initial consultation was 12/23/13, I was able to see all the specialist and get approval by 1/14/14. The paper work was submitted to my insurance on 1/23/14... I am bitting nails (not literally) waiting to hear back!!!! I am scheduled for RnY gastric bypass on 2/26/14. I am so anxious, nervous, and excited, but my initial worries are the insurance approval. Has anyone ran into problems with Anthem?? Help!!! LOL -
How long should I wait before I want to get surgery part 2? Has anyone ever done it?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Megan Renee Behnke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same question. I wasn't aware of a part two of the bypass. The only one I've heard of is the Duodenal Switch (I think) which has the sleeve as the first part. Since so many people had success with the sleeve procedure they started offering it as a stand alone procedure (or so I've heard). -

I am not sure what surgery part two even is? Are you saying your sleeve has failed and need a revision or are you talking about plastics or what? -
Negative reactions to getting plastics.

I am 58 and about to go for my last surgery. I am 9 years out of my lap band surgery and on my best day I am down almost 70 lbs. I’ve had it all done, breast lift with aug, tummy tuck, and a revision, lower body lift, and many rounds of Lipo. I started with plastic work around 2 years after surgery. I say wait a little while and get close to your goal weight. This is a personal decision. Do not listen to others that have not had the experience. No one else sees or feels the way you do when you look in the mirror. You lose weight and see all the imperfections and want to correct them. Nothing wrong with that. The pain is tolerable and well worth the result. Interview many Doctors and do your research. Find one that you are comfortable with and drag your hubs there to listen and see. He will change his mind. My parents weren’t on board but could see how much happier I was with myself. In the long run, we are all pleased. Good luck. -
I will having my band over bypass on May 10th, so its this Friday! Super nervous. Anyone else?

How long for insurance approval?
LessOfMe0503 replied to LessOfMe0503's topic in Insurance & Financing
I would head back to work in about 7 weeks time... but the first week of that would be without kids. The doctors office knows that I'm hoping to do it in july/ early august. One of my friends had bypass on August 1 of last summer and she didn't miss any work. Have you had your surgery? -
Nope, no list. There probably more than 50 doing it now but a lot of them are newcomers with little experience. Many of them treat their sleeve patients exactly like their bypass patients too, which is annoying. :001_tt2:

New here! Lap band to mini bypass revision on July 5th.
astarwalker posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello everyone, so glad to have found this forum. Am 2 weeks post Op and in general, my recovery is excellent. However, am having problems drinking liquids!! I manage about 1 glass of water in 2-3 hours.. Really trying hard but it dies nit work too well. I am introducing natural coconut water, no sugar, and this goes a bit better. But still, 250 ml of it takes a whole day.. So far I lost 16 pounds, quite happy with it. My bowels work every two days, which I find quite OK. I am basically here to get some support for the long road ahead. Specially with the drinking, as I understand (and also according to my surgeon) that this is the most crucial part. Thanks a lot in advance and much success to us all!! Sent from my D6603 using BariatricPal mobile app
