  1. Just wondering what other RNY => TORe patients' Post Op diet transition was like. I did clears for 4 days then started full liquids 2 weeks then I'll do soft/mushies for 2 weeks. I'm seeing other folks extending their soft foods to 3 weeks so I'm wondering if doing that may help overall. I suppose it couldn't hurt, right?

That's exciting. Congrats. I'm down 32 lbs since the start of the pre op diet and an thrilled. I've stalled though, so waiting for that to break.

    Pouch reset?

Echoing the "reset isn't real", and definitely co-signing on the calories. Here's a link to calorie calculators for loss and maintenance - pop in your stats and it gives you calorie guides. Super easy. Weight loss absolutely slows to a crawl as you reach goal, but staying in a deficit works, even if it's slow. I also wanted a "buffer" for the 3-year gain-back scenario, and I'm now ten kilos past my goal, which was what I was after. This whole process is just ongoing calorie adjustment and patience.

Yes I'm sleeping so much Lindsay. And I feel pretty weak. I still have nausea every day. My post op appt was today and I just couldn't go so thankfully we did it by phone. He's ordered blood work for me as my nausea at this stage is abnormal and wants to see if somethings going on. He's also sent me scripts for 2 new meds. He says my fatigue is due in part to rapid weight loss. I've lost 11kgs or 24.2pds in 2 weeks which he was surprised to hear. I'm to to stop my vitamins for 2 weeks to see if that helps. The nausea was so bad this morning I threw up. I'm really thirsty which is good as drinking then doesn't feel like a chore. My 18yo asked me this morning if this was expected to be feeling like I am? Heck no lol. I anticipated a lot but not 2 weeks of nausea and to be repulsed by many foods.
  5. ♥️ Congratulations you guys - June is almost upon us. I’m one full week of pre-op liquid today and 10lbs down. 7 days and counting for bypass on 1st June - it’s a challenge at times but I’m hanging in there for the 1st June xx
  6. Speaking of terrible and embarrassing, I just got a notification a few minutes ago that some of the clothes and shoes I ordered earlier this week have been delivered to my apartment this afternoon. Second parcel on the ways haha. Buying clothes online is so much easier when you are average / normal size (but no good on my pocket haha). I need to uninstall those apps (I tell myself that every time haha). I'm working in a remote site and I've not been to the head office since March 2022. Everyone was shocked to see me and they all kept asking how I did it. I even got follow-up calls. Most of the people were worried that I got diabetes or seriously ill. I just went with the healthy diet and exercise story.

Although it’s been miserable and eating is still a chore and everything tastes gross… I’m been cleared for Soft foods and my doctor is thrilled with my current results. Down 39 lbs currently which he said is way ahead of schedule! This is with a 2 week pre op liver shrinking diet and now exactly 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Starting weight was 357. 318 this morning. That’s pretty exciting!
  8. I was able to break a lot of bad habits after WLS but I've developed new ones along the way. I'll share some of mine and I'm keen to hear yours too. Some of the Bad habits before WLS: 1. Spending a lot of money on junk food (fast food, potatoes chips, chocolate etc) specially when I'm at work. 2. Procrastination when it comes to exercising and doing something about my weight. I've reached a stage where I've decided to just let myself go and do nothing about it 3. Avoiding social gatherings if I knew that photos will taken or if it involves any sort of physical activity 4. Eating before going to bed and while watching TV I'm glad to report that I've broken all of the above and I couldn't be happier. Bad (not necessarily) habits after WLS 1. Spending a lot of money on new clothes. I can't resist buying new clothes if it fits or I know it will fit me in a month time or so. Yesterday I went to the mall to buy tomatoes from the supermarket and ended up buying 2 polo shirts, 1 shirt and new jeans 🤣. I got the tomatoes of course. 2. I hate looking at old photos of me and I really don't like the way I looked in those. I didn't have this feeling before. 3. I take a lot of selfies and photos of myself now haha. I guess I'm making up for past time 4. I'm not telling people the whole truth when asked how I lost the weight. I only tell them about diet and exercise and even show them my latest cycling records but nothing about the WLS. If only told a handful of people about my WLS because I thought they could benefit from one. One of my friends is planning his WLS next month. 5. I don't like how certain parts of my body look after losing a lot of weight (I don't hate tho) like my armpits which have turned into caves, the loose skins on my belly, my scars. I guess I'm a bit self conscious about those.

    Nausea made better by eating

i get nauseous if i am hungry. I also get very hangry!!! If I am not going to be able to eat for a long while, i will at least drink a protein shake to help with the hunger. I am only 5 weeks out. I try to stay on an eating schedule of 3 times a day and a small snack of fruit in the afternoon and a protein shake a couple hours after dinner

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Just got my surgery date! 6/7. Two weeks! Eeeeekk. I'm excited and scared all at the same time. Mine will be outpatient in Birmingham, AL
  18. I second that - safe travel and comfort in Mexico honey. Tomorrow will be one full week of liquid diet. I may be imagining it, but I am sure my bra cup seems a little looser 😂. I'm going to brave it and step on the scales tomorrow morning......
  19. I couldn't find this topic when I searched back pain. I lost 40 lobs before surgery, and a week after surgery when I tried to go walking I got a stitch in my back. I've tried not drinking while I walk, not drinking before I walk, not eating or drinking before or while I walk, and 2 months out I still can't walk from the parking garage into the clinic to see my doctor without my back hurting. The longer I walk the more it hurts and the longer I have to sit before it stops. I know my spine and the muscles have to adjust to the new weight dynamic, but this didn't happen with the 40 lbs pre-surgery and when it started I hadn't lost additional weight yet. I've lost an additional 20 now. I'm getting married a month from today and I'm afraid I'm going to spend my honeymoon in the room instead of exploring Toronto.

I am SO TIRED. Is anyone else not able to shake the fatigue? I'm just over 3 weeks out, on puree and eating more calories - roughly 500. I usually get my Protein goals in. liquids are hit or miss, but I normally hit that or close on most days. Maybe dehydration? Not sure. But, man, I could sleep all day.

Food Portions - 6mos post op

Every plan and dr is different and my dr says that between 6 months and a year that the oz should be 8-12 with just 3 meal per day. I also have calorie goals instead of just oz though and at 6 months it was 1000- 1200 but the calorie goal was more individual based because if you were not stalling then you could maybe be at less but if you were stalled for more than 3 weeks then you would increase the calories by 100 per week. It was never decrease which hurt my brain because I so wanted to do the opposite lol.

    September surgery buddies!!

Wow, you are doing amazing!! Thank you for sharing how you are doing. I keep wondering how our group is progressing. You look wonderful and sounds like you are on a great track. My progress has slowed down sooo much. I even adjusted my goal to just hit normal weight so that it would look closer and help my brain mentality. I am really close but I sat at the same weight for almost 2 months and just last week had a nice 5 lb loss all at once. So I'm guessing it was the breaking of the stall at last, But these last 10 lbs and hopefully more might take me another year at the rate I'm going. My restriction is still the same, which was never very restricted to begin with. I'm still not super hungry yet which I'm happy about. My hair loss is slowing and I have baby hairs sprouting up in curls which looks weird but I'm happy to have them. I need to get back into the positive mindset because these last few month of no loss or very little loss has been depressing and I need to start appreciating all the good changes. Thank you for updating though and I hope more people come back and update too

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Good morning to all, I am on my third day, I just happened to start mines 3 weeks earlier than my surgery so this is my test week but so far so good, it's been hard it's been testing and trying I cheated yesterday just a Teensy winsy bit but I'm back on it this morning and I have to be determined like when they told me I had to stop smoking after smoking for years, I just cold turkey quit so I guess I'm going to have to do the same thing with this liquid stuff. Again good luck to all.
  24. I have just returned from a three week holiday in Greece and I am exactly the same weight as when I set off. In my past I could add 7 -14 pounds to my weight. I walked around in my swimwear and did not need to hide behind a towel. So liberating

    Pouch reset?

The best advice I can give it to determine your BMR. This is the calories you need to sustain your current weight and conditions. There are calculators online to help you determine your BMR. From there I would log everything you eat, drink, take for a day or two to see if your calorie intake is above your BMR if so, cut back. There are also calculators that tell you your BMR and what calories you should be consuming for a specific weight loss per week. I think a lot of people regain weight or have trouble losing that last 10 pounds because they get comfortable and start grazing. Portions trend up a bit and before you know it, you gain back a little. So, rather than trying a reset, liquid diet, any kind of diet, Id work on getting control of calories in or increasing exercise. Good luck!
