Food Before and After Photos

I make homemade kefir and sometimes I make way too much so I make labneh balls in olive oil. They make great gifts too since they last forever. The longer they sit, the better they taste. I have never tried it with Greek yogurt but now I think I may try it. [emoji106] -
Hi all, I am week 2 into my full liquid diet. I am feeling hungry almost every 1 or 1.5 hour. I can eat yogurt or drink a protein shake in 30-40 minutes, but sometimes still hungry. I’m averaging 72g of protein this week. I’m not sure if I’m having fathom hunger or I need to sip/eat more often. someone please help ease my mind.

A variation of the ranch with yogurt is you can put ranch and cottage cheese in a blender, thin with milk until you like the consistency.
-
What about hummus? There are so many different flavors. I'm not sure the fat content right off. Also, you can mix dry ranch packet with fat free Greek yogurt. Both of these options would give you some extra protein.

So I don't use sugar in anything. I dont drink coffee, all of my sugar literally comes from greek yogurt, fairlife milk, ect. I don't use sugar. I just wish I could figure out what food to add because she thinks my body is in starvation and thats why I need to bump them -
hello - I have been stalled since 3/23. My dietician wants me to up my calories. I am currently getting between 800-100 and she wants me at 1200-1500 a day. I have no idea how to add in another 300+/- calories that are not junk food. I eat 5x a day, plus one shake. I keep my carbs under 75 a day (under 20 per meal), fat under 60 (under 10 per meal), and sugar less than 25 for whole day, and avoid unneeded sugar (eg, sugar in milk or yogurt okay, but not sugar in skittles) I also get well over 100 g of protien a day. I am not working out because I am having positional lightheadedness, where my vision whites out when I go from sitting to standing randomly. I am getting 80+ ounces of fluid a day. yesterdays food: pure protien bar protien shake greek yogurt tuna (bumble bee quick catch, had tuna and pasta) a fake sushi roll (avocado carrots butter lettuce crab meat and lobster chucks wrapped in a rice paper) grilled ribs without sauce + lima beans. todays meal plan: quest cheddar crisps protien shake yogurt legendary pop tart artisan traders 2 egg omlet cups ribs and lima beans my restriction is still super strong, and i can barely get half a cup in per meal/. 6 months out from surgery. bouncing between 184-188 since 3/23

ah...i see what u are asking now...i just googled how to make labneh, lol. looks like u start with regular full fat yogurt then make it into a greek like one. though wouldn't starting with a greek-like one be more efficient?? 🤷🏻♀️ ...off to google more... -

i've never made it...always just picked it up at a local bakery....it's definitely a thicker greek like yogurt consistency rather than the thin kind. though now that u bring it up, maybe i should try to make this from scratch...i do have a still-unused "yogurt" button on my instant pot! and i can add my own toppings...ooh the possibilities! lol (thanks for the idea ha!) -

Struggling to Consume Calories/Protein
Loreli04 replied to See.Allie.Run's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at day 8 post op after having Gastric Bypass Surgery with Hernia Repair. I am also struggling to get what my doctor wants me to get down. She gave me a chart and every hour I am supposed to drink 4oz . That is not happening. I am lucky to get 2oz most of the time in per hour. Today was the first day that I was able to from 8a.m. to 12 p.m. get a full 9oz of the protein shake in. I can't wait to have Cottage cheese. Right now I can have broth, Creamed soup and Low fat yogurt (I like Two Good) I drink plain water and Gatorade Zero and Crystal Light. I pray this gets easier, I have had pain off and on and also severe gas at times and I do walk. Gasx has been helping with that also. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
bsumner replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on full liquids. I am doing like 3 shakes a day, yogurt, pudding, jello (all sugar free). Of course adding in the water, gatorade zero, and crystal light. No caffeine either-that has added to my fatigue too. I did try some broth yesterday to try and get used to it for post op and its not my favorite by far. I keep hearing that the second week is better. Hoping this is true. Are you having the sleeve? -

Struggling to Consume Calories/Protein
mcipanda replied to See.Allie.Run's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had water, broth and Gatorade zero the first three days. Then I had 2 protein shakes per day for the first week. For me, the key was sipping constantly. I also used Gatorade zero with protein if I just couldn’t get another sip of shake down. At about a week post op, I tried protein broths and loved the Unjury brand chicken. I’ve heard some people thin out yogurt (like Oikos Triple Zero). Just try your best to get as much protein as you can. 50 out of 60 grams is pretty good! Just keep the goal in mind and sip, sip, sip! -
Struggling to Consume Calories/Protein
See.Allie.Run posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. I’m 1 week out from having gastric sleeve surgery. The procedure went well, but I had a good amount of pain for the first few days (where I couldn’t really consume anything other than water, Gatorade Zero and broth). Since about day 4, I’ve been trying to consume somewhere close to my protein goals (60 grams). I just can’t get there, or really be anywhere close. I’ve never loved protein shakes, and can only have 2 ounces at a time. I’m lucky if I consume 1 shake/day. I add in chicken bone broth, and a little bit of nonfat yogurt/cottage cheese (which my surgeon allows), but I just can’t seem to consume more than 250 calories/day (at best 40-50 grams of protein). And it is a constant struggle (since I have been good about my fluids). It is wearing me out a bit, trying to consume protein, and it impacts my ability / endurance to get outside and walk. Any suggestions? -
Nutrition Goals - Unrealistic with food?
BrigitteLM replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that going on walks helped me get to my next meal/“feel” hunger again (in whatever way we feel hunger now) - and so I go out on walks 2x/day now and have really enjoyed it. Also going on a routine where I wake up and after getting ready for the day, I start with my protein drink, then my next meal is a stage-appropriate meal like Greek yogurt with cinnamon, Kefir, or refried beans, etc. etc. Then protein drink again, then ending the day with food. And as I progress, a snack if needed. But the routine of it has helped me get more than enough protein, following my diet plan. -

Have you tried greek yogurt? Dannon makes an apple pie greek yogurt that you might like since you like applesauce. Definitely try to get some protein in! Good luck! -
I'm getting so frustrated, 7 months out and almost 2 months stalled
BriarRose replied to SuziDavis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sometimes our bodies just decide to hold onto where we are right now. I am 12 years out. I had a wonderful Birthday week - and then some celebrations .... and a trip to Disneyland and ate meals out. I literally gained 5 pounds in a week. Shrug. I went back to what I do.. high protein, low to no processed carbs, lots of fruit and veggies, yogurt, cheese, nuts.... and for the first week and a half....nothing. the 5 lb weight just sat there. I ignored it. Two weeks, nothing, three weeks.... finally this week... it all came off. I did NOTHING different. It just happens that way (for me, at least) sometimes. It WILL come off. Give your body time. Losing weight quickly as we do in the first year is traumatic to our bodies. If your body shuts down, there may be a reason. I always figure my body is telling me that food is limited and we are having a famine ..... I explain to myself that this is not pre-history. I have a freezer and a stove and food. Eventually it will Happen. -
How long should it take to eat 1/4 cup of pudding?
summerseeker replied to dskg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have a staple line or stitches across your new tiny stomach, this early in your new life , you need to be careful of them. You have a way to go to heal properly. Learning how to eat again is tough. Eat with a small spoon. Slowly. Wait for the full signals. It gets easier as you go through the food stages. Then you will feel a proper restriction. I never got hungry signals just acid gurgling and churning. Some people do though. If you can manage a 1/4 cup then that sounds ok. It is only very soft food after all. It might take longer to eat fish and meats. Everyone is different, I could only manage 2 teaspoons of yogurt but I enjoyed them. It gets easier after the first week or so -
I had my 2 week post op appointments yesterday with my Nutritionist and the Dr. in charge of the Nutrition Clinic, the pharmacist and my surgeon. The Nutrition Doc put me on the bariatric scale and my body fat % is the same, so I'm losing as much muscle as fat. During the full liquid phase I was consuming an average of 534 calories a day, 66oz of water/shakes and 72.4g protein. I didn't just drink shakes, I ate yogurt 2x a day and pudding/protein too. I walked around my house quite a bit, but I only got about 2 hours of "exercise" because THAT incision was so painful the first week, and the second week somehow I triggered my back pain (the surgeon said that since it started hurting when I tried to increase my walking time, that the surgery could have triggered it). OK, that's the background. My Nutrition Doctor was disapproving of my calorie intake and told me I should have been getting at least 800 calories a day (she never told me that, my goals were 48-64oz of fluid and 60-80g protein). She said if I needed to, to sip on protein shakes during the day to bring my calorie and protein up. My surgeon said that getting less than 600 calories a day isn't unusual and not to worry about it, don't make myself eat. That I should take it easy until the episode with my back ends and then try to start walking and use some light weights to start building muscle. So, it wouldn't be a problem if I could do both, but now I'm on pureed/soft foods and as much as I was looking forward to it, I just don't want to eat. I didn't feel hungry during the last phase either, but I ate and drank as scheduled. It wasn't a problem, but it did take ALL day. Now, I get a few bites down and I don't feel full, nauseous or in pain, I just REALLY don't want it. It's confusing because I don't know how to read the signals anymore. Since the surgery, my stomach will growl and my mind says "I must be hungry" and at the same time "I don't feel hungry". So now, am I full or am I just repulsed because my tastes have changed? I used to drink plain water all the time, now it tastes bad. Do I go back to full liquids and add more shakes so I can get the 800 calories or do I press on with Phase 3 and try to find soft foods that I can make a whole meal out of and not worry about the calories? I don't feel like I can do both because while I had no problem with Phase 2, I don't think I can get the extra calories/protein while trying different foods that I may not want to eat after a few bites. I'm supposed to get at least 32oz of fluid from water, not shakes.

February 2023 surgery dates!
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been wanting to write down what I eat, but it's hard because sometimes I can't eat it all. I know what you mean about measuring and not measuring tho. I usually weigh my food. Sometimes it's too much, sometimes it's not enough. But I don't go back for more and I don't want to get more. Ooo I used to like cream if wheat. I had it the second time after surgery the other day, the first bite was good, then after that it tasted like how swamp water smells lol. I hate protein shakes and I can't stand yogurts anymore which sucks because I like yogurt. Broccoli tonight tasted weird. I don't like vitamin waters anymore, I don't like snapple or gatorade anymore(eventho I got grape the other day). It's funny you say you don't like coffee anymore and I'm craving coffee haha. Starbucks coffee. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I do like it once in awhile. I see the dietician tomorrow and I'm asking if it's okay to have coffee and tea. I get to move onto the soft solid diet tomorrow and I hope she can give me some meal ideas and what ounces I should be having. I'm pretty happy with my weight loss so far and ever since surgery I've been pretty happy. I've lost 27 pounds so far. -
You can try adding some greek plain yogurt to the beans to thin them out or broth. Not sure about the dumping. But I was advised to stay aeay from starchy veggies in pureed food since they are high in carbs and sugar, and do not provide any protein. I mainly had crab salad, soft fish, hummus, beans, soups, chicken mousse Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Chewable flavors & Calcium Citrate
catwoman7 replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it might be the artificial sweetener they use in that chew (?). Anyway, there are lots of options for calcium citrate. Most drug stores sell one or two brands of calcium citrate tablets (vs. several brands of calcium carbonate, which we're not supposed to take since it's not well-absorbed by us). I look for the "petite" version of calcium citrate tabs (I've gotten them at Walgreens - but other stores may have them as well) since I like them better than those big horse pills. there is also a powdered form of calcium citrate, but I don't know how easy it is to find in stores. You can order it online, though. NOW makes it - and so does Upcal D. I used to buy the latter. You can mix it into food or beverages, but Upcal D, at least, doesn't really dissolve - it just suspends in liquid, so you have to shake your beverage before every swig. I ended up just mixing it in with yogurt. -
Looking for Easy Protein Snacks
pintsizedmallrat replied to hk2013's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I like Epic bars as a quick protein snack (they're kind of like a cross between a protein bar and jerky/meat snacks, they're made of meat but they're softer and easier to digest than something like a Slim Jim and are a lot more natural, I especially love the bison and cranberry flavor). My go-to around the house is cottage cheese and yogurt as well, but having to be refrigerated and needing a spoon makes it harder to be truly "portable". I also like to pack slices of ham or turkey rolled up with half a slice of cheese in my lunch, sometimes with a little cup of dressing or some kind of spread to dip them in like mustard. (Plain yellow or brown mustard has, like, no calories!) I'm going to agree with whomever said upthread to try to eat whole foods as opposed to convenience items; a lot of "high protein" items out there are formulated to be keto friendly so they're also going to have a lot of fat in them too which can raise the calorie count to a point where you'd be better off probably eating a small, proper meal as opposed to treating a 300 calorie "protein cookie" as a snack. -
I like getting a high protein nonfat Greek yogurt (I use fage nonfat), putting in some organic unsweetened cocoa (I use Cocoavia cardio health), and mixing in sugar free maple syrup (I use Maple Grove farms no sugar syrup) to sweeten it. Tastes so good. I wish I knew about this recipe when I was in the puree stage but I just recently found it somewhere on the net. I don't even remember where.

There are these little protein packs called P3 at the grocery stores that have some cubed lean meat and cheese plus some nuts like cashews or peanuts. Some of the nuts are covered in chocolate for a little sweet. Each one has 11g of protein. My hubby is really picky, but he loves Quest protein chips. Each little bag has 20g of protein! He says the nacho cheese ones taste better than Doritos 😊 Also love Good Culture cottage cheese cups with fruit, Oikos triple zero yogurt and hard boiled eggs, egg bites etc.
