Thigh lift in Mexico? Other countries?

A thigh lift is a complicated surgery usually with lackluster results. You are not going to find many doctors that do it, fewer before and after and even less likely to be low cost. If my thighs looked like her before I would be happy. https://www.realself.com/review/miami-fl-medial-thigh-lift-43-years-dr-mel-ortega?offset=6# You should be able to poke around Real Self and find someone you want to contact.

@Sunny80 @banksdea Dr. Michael Wood was my surgeon, too! Have either of you had complications thus far?
  4. Thank you for your comments and advice. I have spent the last 8 years thinking I didn't need WLS and I never even considered it. I was always the tall skinny girl, never had to worry about what I ate. I was 130 lbs when I graduated high school and settled out at 145-160 after having my children. Then when I hit 39 I just started gaining weight like crazy. I had un- diagnosed thyroid problems for many years. I became fatigued, lethargic, started losing my hair, and could not lose any weight. At my highest weight I was 255 and miserable. I developed plantar fasciitis in both feet and was walking like someone 30 years older when I got out of bed in the morning. Three years ago I developed type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol to add to my list of health issues. I think my body does not do well with this extra weight. Some people can be obese and not have many issues... I am not that person. I have had complications with my diabetes already, my eyesight is getting worse, my feet have been numb, and I don't want to be insulin dependent. My mom passed away last October from a massive stroke. She was overweight, had HBP, and diabetes. I don't want to continue down that path. I have wasted nearly all of my forties trying to get back to a healthy weight, and I will be 49 in August. I have promised myself that I will get to my goal weight before I turn 50. I am so ready to give my body a break and get healthy again.

    GERD or NAH?

Hello All, I am new to BariatricPal. I was sleeved in 2015 (Jan) and ever since that day I have been nauseous, I've had heartburn and little to no appetite. I am in the process of possibly getting a revision, if that will help with all of the afformentioned. I barely eat or drink and I am hoping my surgeon will order tests to better understand my situation. I have searched for what I was experiencing and the only thing I learned was that others are or were having the same complications, but some received no explanation from their doctors. At this point I am wondering if my complications are serious enough for my insurance to cover the costs. And also if what I am experiencing could be GERD.

    Pissed Off and Rebelling

This is quite a humorous conclusion, if that were the case why does this happen in universal healthcare too? The reason is simple if anyone would bother reading studies that are even available on this very forum -- those who don't implement lifestyle changes stand an extremely significant chance of post-surgery complications (making useless their surgery), never mind not helping any other comorbidic obesity complications like diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, etc. Ensuring people are dedicated to pre-operative lifestyle changes dramatically increases the odds of post-op success. The goal is to help fix the underlying problem, not throw you into surgery ("cuz I said so") and create more issues others have to deal with the financial consequence of. For those who don't want to wait, and make sure they're physically and mentally ready for the pre-op and post-op challenges, paying out of pocket to have surgery elsewhere is an option people always have.
  7. I can totally believe this. Everyone now wants to be a victim of something. Yes I have had complications, but I face them head on knowing it is just a bump on the road to the main goal!
  8. I didn't think so either because it doesn't say it, so I don't know for sure. Just what I was told. There was a post that did get removed because it was just garbage and got reported by some people. Complications suck, and WLS is not an easy decision to make, but some people take a really shyte approach to "helping" others.
  9. Wow, that's an over-generalizing thing to say... I understand that surgical complications can be serious but so can side effects of diabetes etc. - and no, it's not always "easier to control these issues".

Considering a revision - read this!

I am so sorry for your complications. I had to do a 5 week long 9 total hours support group with 1st year sleeves who are not losing weight as they should. So I have been meeting with a room full of people who have had the sleeve within the last year. Included in that group are people who need to be resleeved as well. It's an amazing opportunity to be around people who have the sleeve and have every reason to complain. NONE OF THEM HAVE REGRETTED THE DECISION. It's not to say that some people don't regret it. It's not to say that some people don't have complications. But your feelings are YOUR feelings. They are valid and real. This is the place to share your frustrations and your story. It's just not the place to share them THE WAY you are sharing them. Your message is being communicated in a way that turns people off. That's just not a way to communicate effectively. It never works. As to your specific issues: There are many tools to help with acid reflux. If those aren't working, find your next option... share your journey in a constructive way. And Since you like honesty so much, I will be honest with YOU. You might have heartburn from your negative attitude. Stress kills. And being negative is stressful. That along with eating too much and the wrong thing too son leads to reflux and getting stuck... according to my 5 week long class. If you are 3 months out, according to "the rules" you should not even be eating the foods you are complaining about not being able to eat. We learned that straying from the first year diet plan as you have IS THE CAUSE of numerous complications such as the ones you have listed. It might be better to focus on what you have done and are potentially doing to help or hurt your situation.

    Bypass versus sleeve

I had my mind made up to have the sleeve. I had a low bmi and I am pretty active and love healthy eating. I just ate too darn much. My doctor agreed and the sleeve it is. I loved the idea of the sleeve for these reasons: 1. It did not biologically change how I process food. It is merely a restriction to eating too much. 2. I gets rid of the hunger hormone grelin. This hormone remains with the bypass as the part that produces grelin is just "bypassed" so grelin continues to be produced. 3. Malabsorption - bypass not only restricts but also diminishes the nutrients absorbed into the body. A lifetime of vitamins are critical. I was a vitamin taker prior to surgery so this is no big for me but many people have trouble remembering to take vitamins all the time. This does not mean sleeve patients should not take vitamins. B12, D, and multi is still recommended. 4. Although the sleeve is fairly new (2011) it is proving to be the procedure with fewer complications. 5. It is less common to experience dumping syndrome which I understand can be pretty miserable. 6. Cost - I was self pay. Bypass was about $6,000 more expensive. This was merely a bonus. I would have paid for bypass if my doctor recommended it.

    November 11 Sleeve Surgery

Thank you! I'm 5' 6" and my starting weight was 228. 216 at surgery. I'm at 174 now. Not doing any formal exercise yet. Had complications 2 weeks after surgery. I developed 4 blood clots that got infected. So that was a major setback to my recovery. It's been rough but I don't regret anything. The weight loss has been amazing and it does get better. Just now having more energy. I'm in a size 12 now. Was in a 16/18 With insulin resistance which is gone now!
  14. Ross, I'm 3 years out from band to sleeve revision due to esophagus complications. I did very well with band beginning in 2010, losing over 120 pounds. I was also fed up with the fills, unfills and all the other symptoms with the band! My complication leading to revision was a blessing with some post op expectation challenges. My weight loss with the sleeve has been very slow and I deal with GERD nowadays. Months before my revision my band was completely deflated and I put on over 30 pounds. Since revision, I lost the 30 pounds and just cannot get beyond that. I workout 6 days a week and my body is holding on between 215 - 218 lbs. Here's my take through my experience. With any WLS our metabolisms are damaged or become dormant and aging doesn't help the situation. Initially, we lose the weight because we eat so little and with time this changes. When we start to eat more and start experimenting with our old comfort foods, we gain weight. Remember prior to lapband and all those diets where we did so well, only to put the weight back on and usually doubled it once we started eating normal again? Metabolism freakout, now times that by two with weight loss surgery. A normal meal for me is 1/2 cup of protein and 20 minutes later 1/2 cup of salad or veggies or fruit which gives me the satisfying feeling of satiety. Anything beyond that is head hunger or self sabotage. Regrets? Other than my GERD, which is getting better, I am very pleased with the sleeve. Weight loss is slow, but, my waist size is a comfortable 34 and I can wear a snug 32. Shirt size, large and some mediums. Each one of us is so different. I wish we all had the same results, but, some of us have to work a little harder, but, well worth it! jake

    Weight Loss questions

I had the lapband in 2008 when I was 380 pounds at my consultation. I was able to get down to 280 but had many complications and gained all my weight back and had to get it removed in 2012. I continued in a downward (or upward I should say) Spiral with my health and weight. I rapidly gained weight and in October of 2015 I decided I needed to make a change and fast when I was put in the hospital for breathing problems and they almost wouldn't do a catscan because I was over the weight limit when I told them I was 480 pounds (which is what I thought I was). I was so overweight doctors were having trouble treating me. I ended up having to go on oxygen 24/7 because I was so overweight it was pressing against my lungs and restricting my breathing. I called and made an appointment at the bariatric surgeon the day I got out of the hospital. When I went for the consultation it turns out I actually weighed 540 pounds. I went through 6 months of preop diet and was able to lose 60 pounds. The day of surgery on May 29, 2016 I weighed 480 pounds. Today, March 16, 2017, I weight 303.8 pounds. I got my life back. Before I could hardly walk the length of a room and now I walk 2 miles almost every day. I had a lot of complications after surgery but I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat even with all I went through. I had the sleeve surgery because I did not want the malabsorbtion or dumping syndrome. Good luck to you and if you have any other questions you can ask!
  16. I am a 69 year old male, 5'7", weighing in at 325 lbs., and will soon be getting either a DS or a Loop DS. It is my hope to be able to eat 3,000 to 4,000 calories a day within a year or so of my surgery. I understand that the DS is a more complicated procedure than the Loop DS, and that operative and post-operative complications are a bit higher because of that. I know that with the DS there will be more malabsorption of nutrients and that I will have to be on a stricter nutrient regimen. I have seen blogs that where DS patients have been able to eat pretty well down the road without regaining back weight. I would like to be able to enjoy eating almost as I did before, and to be able to eat my favorite foods of simple carbs such as ice cream, bread, pasta, potatoes, pizza and the like without regaining lost weight. Have any of you Loop DSers had that kind of experience. Am I expecting too much? - even with getting a DS? d s
  17. I had cancer, with the complete removal of my prostate. Doc says no problem. Not the same hiv, but still a major potential complication which needed to be looked at before vsg.

    Down Days

I had my surgery on Feb 6th. Other than Serious nausea no complications. I had my surgery with a specialist in Arlington, TX. He didn't see me at my two week check in/follow up. Instead I got the PA or Nurse Practitioner (not sure) who is fairly negative. I had the band to sleeve revision and he feels the need to tell me that most B to S patients don't do as well as other patients. I have been following the guidelines for diet and vitamins but am having trouble getting to 64 grams of protein w/o drinking protein shakes. Weight is dropping (at 197 from 232 pre surgery) but I am tired, cranky and way too weepy for my own good. I am walking daily and have been doing some fairly strenuous yard work. Is it because of lack of protein and nutrients? I have my 6 week appointment on Monday. What should I expect at that visit? If he gives the talk again I may slap him (jk). Seriously I need my surgeon's team to be MY team in my success but even though I am losing (35 lbs in 6 weeks) I am dreading the appointment. My husband is trying to be supportive but I haven't told outsiders about the revision so I don't have a "team".

    Sleeve vs bypass

The sleeve weight loss is slower, to me that makes it healthier. But you lose the same amount of weight On the sleeve as you do the bypass. There are fewer complications with the sleeve. I've heard of people with the bypass ending up hospitalized because they can't get enough food or nutrition. Also with bypass, you will definitely be guaranteed saggy skin, the weight loss is so fast. Generally doctors suggest the bypass for people 400 and above.
  20. Hi all! I had VSG 15 days ago, have had no complications and have been extremely happy with my weight loss. Last night my husband found out we have received orders to Okinawa, Japan - reporting in the end of July. Does anyone know if my having VSG just three weeks ago is going to prohibit going to Japan? I can't find any specific info on the EMFP website? I was a self pay for VSG. Any experience or knowledge about this would be helpful! Thank you in advance!

    Arizona surgeons

Dr Blackstone did my surgery. She is top notch. I had no complications. But I've seen Dr Reynoso and I really like him too. Dr Swain has an excellent reputation as well. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these fine surgeons but Blackstone is amazing, really knows her stuff.

  23. Hi lynn where you hail from? That's the major issue I have with bands, IMHO they are a waste of time as far too many complications from them etc. April 18th for me - any date yet for you?

That's what I was going to ask. I'm having it done in June, but the fear keeps getting to me. Mostly a fear of possible complications. But seeing successes like yours helps.
