Being a low processed whole grain, oats are usually considered an ok addition to your diet (good carbs & fibre) but check with your dietician. I was allowed instant rolled oats in purée & then transitioned to traditional oats in solid foods. The added sugar content in Oats Overnight would bother me: the amount & it would’ve tasted too sweet to me then & now. As Lisa was suggesting, traditional oats you prep yourself would probably be a better option as you’re controlling the ingredients . I have them every day, add a dessertspoon of mixed seeds & blueberries. Because I make it on milk I get about 15g of protein & no added sugar (the naturally occurring sugar in the milk & fruit doesn’t count & provides ample sweetness). It takes a couple of minutes to cook in the microwave. If you want more protein, add some protein powder. Traditional oats can be prepped in the fridge in the exact same way as the Oats Overnight if it was the ‘convenience’ of the product that appealed.

@KimA-GA I really loved these broths during my liquid phases! It is really delicious, all flavors. I put in a little soy protein isolate powder in them for extra protein and sometimes it wouldn't dissolve completely but they tasted like little noodles floating in there lol.

Thursday Sept 1st for me. There are a lot of different dr requirement, isn't there? Mine is 2 weeks of protein shakes, 3 oz lean protein and 2 cups non starchy veggies per day. Day before surgery only protein drinks and nothing not even water after midnight. Good luck, it's getting close! -
I would get the clear protein waters and sugar free Popsicles and sugar free jello I liked the chicken soup and strained out the stuff out because you can taste the stuff in it. The clear liquid part of the diet is easier if you have a variety. I had the bypass last December I'm not sure how long you are on the clear diet is for the sleeve also maybe something to make ice or Popsicles with protein water Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

Good morning from bed, next to my sweet pibble mix (who finally got her fill of cuddles)! Yesterday went really well. I had to set timers and plan carefully, but I hit both my protein and water target. I’m so-so on the protein shake taste, but I really like the puréed soups I got (3 flavors). I lost 2 pounds in the last day, so I’m nearly back down to my weight on Monday morning before surgery (I had a lot of water retention… still a little puffy but getting there). Tomorrow I may hit a low for the year, then it’s all down from there. :)

Congratulations! I'm 1 week out from surgery and still struggling to get protein. These darn protein shakes I loved so much make me gag now.

My plan is very balanced and does include carbs, but I have to measure and track or it can get out of wack quickly. I focus on proteins first, then veggies and carbs. My goal is 75 or more grams of protein per day. More than 64 oz of water and a calorie goal between 800-1200.

Post Op: Struggling a little
Sunnyer replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was pretty tired and nauseous during the liquid phase. I struggled with reaching my water goals, and I'm sure that made me more tired. And I absolutely cannot do the protein drinks. Once I started eating pureed food I mostly felt better, although I still have off days. So I hope you are doing better now that you are having purées. -
I made it guys! Sleeved on 8/25, felt icky in the recovery room, but luckily no major nausea since. I stayed overnight and was released last night. Very sore and it’s been a challenge drinking. Now cleared to do protein shakes along with other clear stuff. Up 4 lbs from surgery weight, but chalking it up to fluid retention. Definitely not as bad as I expected. Hope everyone is doing well!

Thank you - this morning I went ahead and ordered a few emergency supplies for my car, including shelf stable protein powder and will leave them in the car with bottles of water. It’s a new learning experience for me, and I thought I prepared sufficiently, but didn’t. Thank you so much for the information you gave me. I appreciate it. -

You could have had a glass of milk. 250 mls [8.5 fluid ounces ] of Skimmed milk = 9grams of protein. On our new life journeys we never stop learning. I personally have learned more from @Arabesque than anywhere else. At 9 months out I always take a drink and a protein snack even if I am out for just an hour. I have been caught out and that woozy feeling is not nice. -

It was a one off occurrence so you’ll probably be ok. You were at least conscious of what choices you could make in the situation & know new fur the future. During the whole time you are losing, travelling for a day or for longer times will require a little planning ahead in regard to your food options. The stage you’re at, where you are going & what might be available will influence how much & what food you’ll need to take with you. To give you some ideas: Pack a small esky/cooler with appropriate food options. If travelling over a number of days, add fresh food you are able to eat from local stores (cheese, yoghurts, fruit, etc.) & replenish the ice unless you can refreeze ice bricks overnight. Choose packet options for soup & shakes which you mix with water when you arrive or along the journey. Pack high protein snacks like protein bars, nuts, beef jerky, etc. which are easily transportable & generally don’t spoil. I’m three years out & whenever I travel, holiday, etc., I still take an emergency pack of ‘just in case’ foods options. I don’t need them in the same way but you never know. I used to always carry a protein bar in my bag but they would become heat affected & inedible. Now I just try to remember to throw something in my bag if I think I might need it. Of course the times I forget I usually need it most. -

Alright friends, I failed to prepare, so I was preparing to fail, and need some guidance/help. I went to a wedding today about a 4 hour drive (in the sticks), and thought I was prepared by bringing a premixed protein shake and a small container of soup. I am about a week post op (ESG), so on a full liquid diet. I left both in my car while I went to the ceremony, social time and cocktail hour, planning to sneak away at various times to have a sip. Time flew by, much socializing occurred, and before I knew it, the soup had spoiled and the protein shake was also undrinkable. At that point, I was absolutely starving and within an hour (once dinner was served), I was dizzy and shaking, even with sips of water. I was worried about my well-being since I had to drive home later in the dark, so I had a few bites of soft sweet potato and tender meat, very very well chewed. I felt less lightheaded and made it back home safely, but feel truly terrible and worried that I messed up my stitches/sutures. Can anyone provide any support? Any idea if that was enough to mess me up? I have been doing so well and am still motivated to stay on track, but I am anxious. My tummy aches a little but it has been aching after basically everything I “eat” except water. Thank you. -
Oh my goodness I was watching some TV and drinking a protein shake and I definitely over did it. Too much, too fast. It was soooo painful. And I think I experienced my first instance of dumping. I’m telling you guys my entire system rejected that shake. I really hope that never ever happens again!

That will certainly help - yay! Any good flavors you think will be yummy? My office only gave me 4 shakes total, so for cost effectiveness I'm jealous but for options I'm glad I got to chose my own. So when is your surgery date? Must be really soon, exciting! Good luck with the FMLA. Hopefully its just being extra slow. I start my 2 week diet a week from monday, so I'm still just in waiting mode and a cheerleader for those of you going first. Sept is almost here finally! Welcome! It's exciting that sept is finally almost here. I'm excited too but I will probably be more nervous the closer it gets. I'm ready though! -
Wanted to recommend a product! i ordered some Millie’s Sipping broth and they are fantastic. Really lovely savory flavors while being low carb, low calories. These will be a great addition when I am in the liquid phase. i got four packets with three broth bags each - Tomato Basil, Spicy Tortilla, Thai Lemongrass, and Delight Pho The flavors really hit that mental satisfaction for food with me. Comfort in a cup!

Good morning from sunny SoCal! I'm now 4 days post-op. Yesterday was the first day the surgeon wanted me on 'cloudy liquids' (pureed soups + protein supplements), and I did really well with that. I measured out the soup and shakes and made them last almost a half hour. The Baritastic app says I got 61g of protein (close to target... very good for a first day on shakes though, eh?) and 483 calories. Movement was really good as well. I have a repeating timer that goes off every 30m to remind me to get up and move for a couple mins. Doesn't feel like much at the time, but by the end of the day, 4m/h times 16h is just over an hour of total movement. I feel good when I do it. One day when I lose more weight and my knee and back pain go down, I'll be able to go on significant walks again, but baby steps. My low weight of the year was 369.9 the morning before surgery, and I've been in the 370s since then because I'm puffy and gassy still, but I trust I'll see the 360s again soon. So many vitamins and new BP meds to coordinate that I ordered a cute pill organizer from Amazon that will be here next week. Right now they bottles are all in a single bag, so it's a lot of rifling through to find things.

Exploring Options for Sleeve to Bypass in Mexico
teedsg posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm thinking about doing this surgery in Mexico. However, I don't think my husband is going to go for this process. Our concerns are safety, post-op, and covid. I'm not even sure if this is the right move, but I'm just looking at all of my options. $16k for a sleeve to bypass is a bit much for me to pay out of pocket in the states. So, for me the main driver is cost. My other option is to do the VSG to ESG which costs $11,995 in GA. I guess you can say cost is my driving factor right now because I really want to get this done. I need a second chance. By the way, I never been to Mexico, I don't have a passport (I'm probably the only adult who doesn't have one LOL), I never had covid, I'm vaccinated and boosted. Any help is appreciated. -
In order to burn fat consistently you will need to induce Ketosis. Reduce carbs, avoid breads, sugars, and starches. Increase protein!! Try adding in MCT oil to your daily plan. Helps your body burn fat faster. I get 80 to 100 grams of protein daily. I've lost 5lbs this week alone. It isn't easy, but so worth it!!!

First thought is are you meeting all your protein goals still? Is there anything lacking in your blood tests? How old are you? How long is your hair? Anaesthetic can be hard on your hair making it dry & changing the texture. If your hair is long you could still have hair that was affected growing out. I started losing hair again when they discovered I wasn’t absorbing protein after my gall was removed. It took a few months to sort this out (diet & meds) & it’s okay again. I asked your age because, thinning hair &/or changed texture, can be a side effect of menopause & peri menopause. My hair isn’t as thick as it was when I was younger & it’s not as coarse in its texture. When I started peri menopause some of my hair became wavy. Not all of it just the back half. Weird but true. It’s straight everywhere again now. If you’re too young for this, still maybe get your hormone levels checked.

It's hard in the beginning to reach the liquid goal, but it gets better with time. I had my surgery two and a half weeks ago, and I can reach it now. Still don't reach the protein goal, though, mostly due to my aversion to protein drinks and powders. Do you have a large incision? I have four tiny cuts and they don't hurt.
