SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
DENISEMIC replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE A REVISION FROM LAP BAND TO BYPASS 8/27/14, BUT WOKE UP TO FIND DR. CHAND COULDN'T DO IT. HE EMPTIED THE BAND 4/1/14, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT WAS STILL TIGHT AND IT HAD ATTACHED ITSELF TO MY LIVER. THERE WAS ALSO ALOT OF SCAR TISSUE. HE REMOVED THE BAND, DETACHED IT FROM MY LIVER & CUT OUT SCAR TISSUE. IT WAS A 2 HOUR SURGERY. SO I WAS SENT HOME TO RECOVER FOR 3 MONTHS. I KNOW ABOVE ALL ELSE, WE WANT TO BE SAFE AND MY DOCTOR IS EXCELLENT BUT,I WAS SOOOO DISAPPOINTED. I JUST WENT TO SEE HIM 10/14/14 AND HE SAID I SHOULD HAVE A EARLY DEC. 2014 DATE FOR THE BYPASS. I CAN'T WAIT. -
SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
ArtSong replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow it has been a long time for me to post lol but here goes I had the sleeve 9/26/12 and only lost 35 lb from it that was it. Makes it even more depressing that I paid out of pocket for it. I've had a few health issues and had to cut back on my work and I now have Medicaid Medicare I can't remember which one it is they are putting my family on lol. So my question is has anybody had the experience of Medicaid Medicare paying for a sleeve to bypass revision? -
Proudest 2018 moment: worked really hard to lose weight over 2018. In Feb I had a bariatric appointment to discuss possible revision surgery and was 143 kilos / 315 lbs. Worked really hard even with dodgy lapband that either had no effect when too lose or terrible reflux whenever it was tightened and by October got down to 127.5 / 281 lbs for revision surgery. Every pound was hard won I tell ya. So proudest moment was when I got on plane to go to Belgium for my surgery and the seat belt fit without an extender. I was so delighted and happy! First time in decades I hadn't needed to ask for an extender. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Tina 2.0 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had a revision of a Roun Y on Tue with a hernia repair. The hernia has not slowed my healing a bit. Surgery was Tuesday with an overnight stay. I’m doing light chores, driving and shopping today. My doc keeps us on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and protein drinks. I tried broth, it was ok. But just paid a bit more for Bone Broth… wow! A new favorite! Flavors are wonderful and still on plan. There is never really a great time to take off work for surgery. But you will know the best time for yourself and your family. -
What Led To Revision
lbugher replied to dennydenco's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Another failed lap band here! I am getting revision to RNY tomorrow morning. I am so excited to get this awful thing out of my body. It did NOTHING to curb my hunger or appetite. All it did was make eating healthy food hard, and make eating slider food rewarding. Couldn't get a chicken breast and a cup of broccoli down because it would get stuck in the band but I could eat a greasy cheeseburger and a milkshake with zero issues. I wish the lap band procedure would be banned all together. It's useless at best, and potentially fatal if it's left alone to cause issues. -
Weight loss with revision
Tomo replied to Chelsea0604's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revision VSG to RNY due to Gerd. From the beginning of the revision process, I've lost 78 lbs in 7 months, and it is much faster & easier than before revision. I'm currently losing steadily 6.5 to 9 lbs a month. I've passed goal and slowly trying to work up to maintenance calories. -
My blinds are open when I wake up but it is 400 in the morning so there is nothing to see. The sunshine won't be around for three hours. Luckily the windows of my job site open on the east and we see the sunrise every morning. 1. My personal goal is to get down to 150 and stay there. 2. I am having RNY to SADI revision. I am pre op. My operation is on Wednesday the 5th. 3. my weight is 246 Lbs. 4. My favorite winter activity is piling on the blankets or standing in front of the heater with a kitty cat by my side.

Challenge start 288 Last week 282 This week 279 -3 I think it might even be a tad lower then that but TMI I'm a bit 'backed up' lol So I made my challenge goal of 280! I would like to revise it to 275. I've lost 9 pounds so far with this challenge and I know ill probably hit a little stall since I've lost so much, but think 275 is doable!

Yolie, I am having lap band revision surgery in Dallas on the same day as you September 29!!! Let's keep in touch I'm so nervous!!

I am 2 weeks out from revision from sleeve to bypass. I can't attest to the weight loss yet, but feel I am recovering faster. It helped to know what to expect after but do find some big differences. Good luck and no GERD is amazing.

Our @Matt Z is, unfortunately, very knowledgeable about this complication. "The Band had become totally encapsulated in scar tissue, it took my surgeon and her team more than 3 times longer to remove the band than what's normal. My 3-4 hour surgery, lasted over 6 hours. Who knows what would have happened if I didn't revise. The band is gone. My insides have been rearranged. And I'm working my way down to my goal. One day at a time. Lapband revision
Katiebal_Lecter replied to emma6588's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m doing lap band to GB on dec. 17. I got my band in 2008 and it slipped in 2016. I originally got down to 190 with the band and up to 255 after it slipped. I had my bad refilled but it never worked the way it originally did and I was soooo hungry all the time, but eating was painful. My original surgeon’s PA whom I normally saw refused to talk about revisions. He said since I was so successful with the band that I could make it work again. Fast forward three years where I’ve gained 50 pounds and spent over $5k on medical weight loss diets, etc. I pleaded for help one more time and a different surgeon in the office agreed to help. I originally wanted the sleeve, but my (new) surgeon said she would only do GB after removing a lap band because of safety issues regarding scar tissue from the original surgery. She said if I got the sleeve she would have to staple through the scar tissue and it could cause leaking. I trust her judgment so I decided with GB. I too was having problem with pain while eating and I had acid reflux issues at night. I had my surgeon take the fill out of my band and feel 100% better, and oh so hungry. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!! -
Any GERD sufferers who were still able to get their sleeve done?
ProudGrammy replied to kjkeller102's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@kjkeller102 welcome, welcome, welcome you did a great job testing the waters and making your first post some peoples heartburn takes a turn for the worst PO i even know someone that had a sleeve to bypass revision due to their continuous heartburn lets not concentrate on the negatives i don't know a % of people that have heartburn problems PO people DO have those issues but.........i "think" more people (like me) don't have any gerd problems or things can be controlled with meds now that i told you the "bad" some peoples heartburn issues PO might improve a little, or are gone PO as you said everyone is different when you see the doc next month talk to him about your concerns you should have a big discussion hearing his thoughts hopefully he will assure you things will "probably" be ok/or not maybe your heartburn will be controlled by meds there are only 2 guarantees in life Death and Taxes good luck bud kathy -
Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe what I currently feel...
sassyfrass23 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! I'm doing really well. Thank you for checking in on me! As of this morning, the scale showed 197.9. That's a total loss of 60 lbs. I'm in awe at my progress but so so grateful to be where I am so far! I hope everything goes well for you and UHC covers thst revision. I've heard/read such horrendous experiences with the band and feel horrible for anyone stuck with it and the complications they have to endure. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -

Pm121 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sassyfrass,I recently read many of your posts since I have UHC also and waiting to hear requirements for revision to RNY from band. I'd be interested to hear about your progress and experiences. Do let us know. -
I also went to the doctor anticipating the sleeve, but he suggested the bypass. He was really good about explaining the whys. He asked what my concerns were about the bypass, and I mentioned that I thought it was more invasive. He said that it's a more technically complicated surgery than the sleeve for the doctor, but on the patient side of it, the pre/post op are pretty much the same. When it wasn't done laparoscopically, I'm sure it was much more invasive, but now it's pretty much the same as the sleeve. I've decided to take his advice and go with the sleeve. Also, my insurance made it very clear this one a one time surgery, and I've seen so many people with revisions that I'm just going straight to bypass.

6 days since surgery and my abs finally aren't hurting.

Your incisions are looking good! Totally different places that mine though. Of course mine was a revision from sleeve. I have one directly inside my belly button and one on the right side of belly. The others are all below my belly button. mine was also done robotically. I see another little cutie back behind Bruno. Did he get to go for a walk too? actually the more I look I think your incisions are about the same as mine were for sleeve. -
Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen
JRT Mom replied to Too old to lose?'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Medicare will pay for it as long as you meet the criteria. I think it was over 35 BMI with a comorbidity. There was a three month "supervised" diet (during which you don't have to lose weight), and documentation of past failures with diet alone. You must be obese for 5 years, and have a psych evaluation. I was nervous because I had been told by another office that Medicare wouldn't pay for revision surgery (failed lap band) which was odd because Medicare hadn't paid for the first one. But they came through and my bill was paid. -
Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

DS vs Gastric Sleeve recovery? Can you tell me how your recoveries compared????
Strivingforbetter replied to Skittlesandrainbows's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I also had the DS on 6/9/17 and was revised from the band. The doctor did it in a few hours. I had three times the amount of pain when I had my band surgery because the port would pull when I bent over until it was healed and the doctor didn't give me any painkillers post-op. He handed my husband a few pills and sent me on my way. With the band, it was impossible to bend over for weeks. Let's put it this way, no one left the house until Mom's shoes were tied. I couldn't do it on my own. With the DS, I was able to bend over and pick things off the floor the first day home from the hospital and I only spent one night in the hospital. I was tired after the DS for the first two weeks, but by the third week, my life got back to normal. The pain was very minimal, at least for me. Now if you want to talk painful surgeries, a total knee replacement takes the prize in my book. I haven't had any experience with just the gastric sleeve part, only the full DS. Since the sleeve is part of the DS, I'm not sure why you've been told the DS would be an easier recovery. The DS is more complicated than the sleeve. Anyway, the recovery wasn't bad at all. -
It's been 1 year since my Tummy tuck. Even with the wound issues and the revision I had to have because of it, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!!!

A commited woman, a strong woman & being a pretty woman also can't hurt Congratulations on a beautiful revision of you!👍😛.

Has anyone considered tummy tuck before goal?
soocalchic replied to jlray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a tummy tuck long ago before i even had children now that i'm going to be loosing about 80 lbs i just know im going to need a revision. Revisions from what i have heard are a little more riskier. Just because there is a whole lot of scar tissue and blood supply isnt as good. If i were you i would just buy a good girdle and wait until your weight stablizes. Your skin might shrink a little give it some time. Here is the type of girdle thats my favorite its the classic from lipoexpress.com check them out a little pricy but theyre bullet proof.. i love it.. It gives you a great silouette when you're wearing them its a temp fix until you're to goal. -
Wow! Congratulations on a smooth surgery. Sounds like you have a great frame of mind. Just curious, did you know going in that you wouldn't be getting the sleeve? Was your procedure scheduled strictly for band removal? I am going in this Monday for a band to sleeve revision and I am not sure how I would feel if I came out of surgery to find out that they were not able to sleeve me. But I definitely understand that it could happen. I hope you continue to feel better and I am so looking forward to having the band out of me and moving forward with life.
