I have not had my first fill. Next Tuesday. How do I know if I am eating enough calories? Mainly trying to ensure I get enough protein, which I don't think I do. Don't want to lose what little hair I have.
-
Yep I hope this night eating will change for me also. I feel such guilt as I do so good at breakfast and lunch eating healthy foods and come night I blow it all. But I don't really blow it with junk food likes desserts and chips etc but with the quantity of the good foods. Like 3 to 4 protein bars or string cheese and crackers. But I know I shouldn't be eating the bars and cheese either. I sure do hope with the lap band this will stop. Good luck to you all as I know what you are all going through with the night eating.

I don't know who told you that you can't eat what you want. I think you need some more research. Don't think that people who have the band like life in tiny tight boxes! LOL Actually from what I've read, i expect the band to give me total freedom from ever counting out crackers or measuring green Beans or weighing a steak or Writing about it ad nauseum ! When you are losing you will of course want to choose the most healthy options! That's just logic and has nothing to do with "control" or "rules". Once you've lost sufficient weight, if you pick less "optimum" choices occasionally it won't matter. I'd bet you think about food quite often now. From what I've read, the band kind of frees you up from that. As you lose and get more healthy you will probably need less diabetic medicine. Depending on your type of diabetes and how long you've been diabetic you might be off meds altogether. If you think that is restrictive, I beg to differ! If you are really individualistic then you believe in deciding for yourself. I think you need more research. Find a couple books, do some independent reading, attend another seminar. Ask your surgeon, not "a couple people". As you dig deeper you'll see what I've told you is closer to the truth than what you believe right now. The lap band is a tool, not a cage. It will free me from obesity and having to think about food every waking minute. -
I got over my funk lol this surgery is def a " life" changing journey in soooo many ways! JustmeinTx replied to JustmeinTx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, im having 15 grams of Protein shake (EAS) every morning and lunch time and then a palm size piece of chicken and a cup of veggies. Following what the nurse gave me. But it doesnt seem like enough.....im starving by 7pm! Drinking at least 48 or more of Water. -
When cooking the bones in broth add 1-2tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. This helps release the bone marrow and takes awesome too. Instead of having broth wi 1 gram if protein it naturally creates 8 grams of protein to 1 cup. Checks out the Gaps diet easy recipes for all different broths for our clear liquid phase

@@Elode I am on three protein shakes a day plus I can have some yogurt to get my extra calcium in. I am also drinking water on the in between as well. I'm trying to space everything out as best as possible. Thank you for the advice!

I just had my surgery 4/9 and I'm feeling lousy. Trying my best to get my fluids in and starting on Protein shakes now. No desire at all for anything with flavor, it makes me nauseated. Please tell me this will get better. When will I feel "normal" again?

Hi! Tomorrow is my pre-op appointment and my surgery date is scheduled for Jan 10! I'm excited but nervous that I will be surprised by the discomfort or difficulty in eating. The thought of eating puréed foods grosses me out. I'd rather just have protein shakes. My question is, is there any advice you wish you would have prepared for mentally or physically to adjust to the surgery better??

You need to walk as much as possible and get in your protein and water.

I should not drink 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. I just got home from the hospital today. I drank a few ounces of Protein shake, but then has a sip of Water to remove that taste from my mouth. My question is--does the 30 minute rule still apply when you are drinking your meal as a Protein Shake? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone! May 8, 2008 lapband in SB, CA, Dr. Thoman. Wt 413, in/out same day of surgery, but unfortunately, developed Pulmonary Embolis (my 3rd hospitalization within 3 years. Lost 20 lb in the first two weeks, got dehydrated as well. The last two weeks, upon returning to work, incredible edema and no wt loss. I can tell my clothes are fitting looser, but discouraged about seeing no wt loss. Restriction is not as i expected, I am consuming up to a cup & a half. However, today experienced my first painful restrictive feeling. I ate 1/4c brocolli and 3oz fish pretty fast and the Protein bar i ate less than 2 hours, was still i am sure still around. So that made me encouraged, despite the pain! I am here to find support and hear other stories, my support system is not very high, i went off my anti depressants after surgery and i felt so inspired after reading posts yesterday, i feel more encouraged. I look forward to being a part of your community! Christina in Santa Maria:shades_smile:

Anyone else dealing with a knee injury as well?
ResettingMySleeve replied to 14isabella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a torn meniscus, severly sprained quad and arthritis. I tore my meniscus by walking downhill for exercise and thankfully I work for an awesome ortho company and named dropped to get an appointment with the top sports med doc in our area who prescribed physical therapy for the quad to help ease the pain but referred me for WLS because it would be poinless to repair my meniscus at my current weight. That said, you need to get in and see a doctor. There are several non-surgical things that can help, such as an ACP treatment where they take your blood and spin it to separate the red blood cells from the healing plasma. I've had it done for tennis elbow and it works. It's more expensive than cortizone shots but cortizone starts to calcify your bones and makes things worse. There are several laproscopic options that involve repairing it with anchors and sutures as well but depending on the severity of the tear, you could be looking at needing donor tissue which is costly and painful and a longer recovery. I suggest you see a doc sooner than later so that he can determine the severity and if it's best to drop more weight before any sort of treat or if you can wait for surgery or if you need surgery already. Go to www.orthoillustrated.com. Yes it's ran by my company but it's not our website per se and it doesn't even make mention of the company that I work for. It's an informational site geared towards patients, not a "let me sell you something site" because that site has tightly controlled acess. The site I referred you to can help you understand your injury and help you find some of the best surgeons in your area. Again, I am not advertising anything or trying to sell you anything, just offering up some advice and insight from a fellow patient. -
Tanna, I do understand what you are saying. It seems that everyone thinks their procedure is the best and they stand up for what they believe. I think a couple of people are just cutting loose with their beliefs, mainly because we have to tiptoe around all the other sites, not to start any wars. But here, we seem safer to speak our minds. I myself believe that in time, the lapband will be the preferred procedure (the "Gold Standard") here in the US, just like it is everywhere else in the world. But until it is, we have to listen to the incorrect information that the bypassers (and doctors!) dole out to people researching WLS. It is a daily thing. Here is what happens. Someone will ask a basic question regarding the lapband. Some RNYer will say it doesn't work if you like sweets, or you have a low or high BMI, if you graze, etc. Then they say that at the end of the struggle, chances are that you will fail and have to revert to getting the bypass. And that the bypass is a permanent cure without having to do any work. When we step in and try to correct some of their misinformation (very nicely), we get a war. It is a struggle to get the correct information out to people without starting some war. Like I said, everyone thinks their surgery is the best. Having said all that, I do believe that the RNY is best for some people. But I personally think that the lapband can work as well, if not better, with some people that get the bypass. I just want people to know that they have an option and I want them to know the correct facts. Then they can do their own research and decide what is best for them. That is where the animosity comes from on the lapband side. It is a struggle to get the correct information out there.

Hello all, I found this site and joined now that I am serious looking into getting the band. Little about myself: I am 6'4" 354 lbs at the age of 33. I guess you can say I hide my weight well since I am so tall and some would look at me and say I don't need it. But for the last 5 years I have tried every diet (WW, Atkins, South Beach, went to a NUT, etc.) I had the most success with the South Beach and lost about 12 lbs. in the first phase, but really stalled after that. The big issues is keeping it off for good which is the issue and my heaviest weight was 371 lbs. I need to change for not only me, but my daughter and wife who I love so much that I fear leaving them way too early in life. Size and the complications that go with it run in my fathers side of the family and I witnessed his father pass away because he refused to do anything about it. It scares me that my Dad is settling in to his fathers old ways. I want to make the change and I think the band is the best options for me after doing tons of research and I attend a conference in a few days for the surgical group that I am interested in having this done with. Well, I am on the path to a better me. Talk to you all soon with many questions and will keep you updated on my status.:rolleyes2:

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Ready to give up!
Sandyjean replied to Sandyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well in the last week or so I have been trying to push myself alittle more. Since it is starting to get nice outside, I started going for a bike ride when I get home from work at 9:45pm. I try to ride for at least 30-45 minutes depending on the endurance I have left from working all day. I have also started to do more lifting and stretching on job #2. I work at the Dollar General at night so lifting boxes and such are easy to get away with without looking like I am exercising on the job. LOL I have also started buying protein bars and cheese sticks for quick healthy snacks during the day. As far as meals are concerned...my kids get free lunches at school so I don't pack for them. I am not home at night and my husband tries to cook good foods, 75% success (LOL). I pick out the healthy stuff for lunch the next day and put everything else away or throw it away (shhh, dont tell him that!:tt1:) I could really use some quick workout ideas for break times at work. I get 2, 15 minute breaks during job #1 and 1 thirty minute break on job #2. Like I said, I get home around 9:45 at night and by then I am just soooo tired, but I still try to push myself along in doing something. A few quick meal ideas would be great too. -
You and me both! Surgery was very easy. Next day was high bp, heachache, painfully swollen iv, and nausea. Went away after 12 hours and I was a new person. I'm currently sipping on pureed cream of potato soup with unflavored protein powder. Yummy! We are onto the good days ahead!

Suppose to be on stage 4, stuck in Stage 2
Tracilyn G. posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am having such a hard time getting to stage 4, regular foods no starches. My gastric bypass surgery was Jan 28th of this year. I’ve been mostly on purée foods, some exceptions in certain foods but the most concerning thing is my new stomach hates meat! I am definitely not meeting my protein goals. Protein shakes are hard too. They did a X-ray with the barium and said everything looked fine other than really bad acid reflux. I’m taking little sips, bites and not drinking before or after meals in the time limits. So far I regret the surgery even though I’ve lost 50lbs. Seems I’m always vomiting, in pain or so fatigue to where I feel like I’m gonna have a seizure. It gets easier right? -
Ok so week 1 is over and I have been feeling pretty darn good since I came home. I haven't had any crazy problems, knock on wood, or anything so that makes me happy.I have been walking and getting out on little adventures (a.k.a. stores) but I do find that after about an hour I get super tired and lose my energy and have to go relax and sit down. I know it's cause of the lack of calories and protein and stuff but I do not enjoy it. I have been having trouble getting my proteins in which is common. I can't really stomach the shakes anymore, which I still try to get down, and I can't really eat enough to get any good amount of protein so basically I have to relay on the shakes and do my best to drink them as much as I can. Sooo the exciting part, I lost 20 pounds since I got home from the hospital which was 1 week. I wasn't going to weigh myself until I went to the doctors for my 2 week checkup but I couldn't wait any longer so I weighed myself. Amazing and soooo excited. Well that's abot it. Until next week, taw taw!

I just have been banded on January 6, 2009. I really had a protein meat preop diet, and my post op was liquids for a week. I lost 8lbs. But since I have been on solids, I have been up to my old tricks again and I feel ashamed! I am exuding NO will power and still snacking on garbage, sweets and fast foods! I hate myself right now. I wont get a fill until feb. 16th and i have gained back 4 of the 8 pounds i lost on my liquid diet! I feel like a total loser, (and not in a good way). Help me, someone, Im drowning!

Well...Im almost 1 month post op 6 days til post op anniversary of one month. I can't believe everything that has happened to me already. Healing from surgery was not pleasant, and I really do believe that I did recover more slowly than others because I am a smoker. Since then after two weeks of recovery, I got bronchitis and a head cold....they are finally leaving my body now. I also have had a bout with more depression and anxiety and I have seen my psychiatrist and she has increased my meds for now. The depression is getting better. I have found that I am more in a "funk" when I stay home all day and do nothing. It's those days I want to nap or feel down....So, I need to get out of the house daily. Even if it's just to go lay by the pool or go to the tanning bed...anything to get me outta the house is good for me. The last 2 days I have been walking. Saturday, I walked for 45 minutes and today I walked for 35 minutes. It really does feel good to get my body moving....a few weeks ago, exercise was just taking the dogs out. Now, when I do take them out I go for a longer walk with them then just the amount of walk for them to "get down to business" I can't believe I AM WALKING...ME the one who has so much pain in her knees...ME the one who hates to sweat, ME the one who weighs still over 300 pounds is walking. ME ME ME!!!! It is such an awesome feeling to know that I CAN start taking care of my body....that I CAN be physically active. 4 months ago, I would go to wal mart and get a motorized chair to shop with.....NOT ANYMORE!! I CAN WALK. I still have 2 weeks before my first fill and "bandster hell" has not been too unbearable. I guess because I drink a lot of water between meals and I'm getting in a lot of protein....some days over 100 grams. I feel so excited that I may possibly be getting my life back....It scares me though to think "well maybe this still wont happen for me"...I do still have those thoughts but they are getting less. I have been in the fight for my life for years and I had given up. Until Jan 4th 2010 when I attended my lap band seminar. Then the wild ideas about having a life again were just so amazing...amazing that MAYBE, it could happen to me.....I think it finally is.... I am so very proud of myself and I know there will be bumps ahead but dang this feels so good....it feels better than a reecees peanut butter cup would taste, or even chocolate mint ice cream.....this feels better than that!!!! I hope and pray that it continues.... Meg:unsure:
