i went grocery shopping yesterday and was buying all healthy stuff and bought something called south beach diet and it said high protein 250 calories after i ate it out of curiosity i looked at the nutrition information and found that ya 250 calories good protein but then noticed 30% dv sodium and 27% dv sat fat im a lil pissed i ate it under the presumption i was eating healthy was it my fault for not looking carefully at nutrition fact and just looking at front of the box or is it companies that stress the few good things and hide the bad

    I need help finding protein!!

Yep. Buy the powdered non flavored protein and you can mix it with just about any food. Plus the Whey protein shakes ( flavored) are a good source when used for meal substitutes. I get mine either from GNC or Wallyworld. Hope this helps....Dave

    So happy I did this!

Amanda, You're right on track. Protein is gonna be your new best friend. Liquids might get a little tougher to get enough in daily, but I found that going to the gym or doing a rigorous cardio workout is the perfect way to develop a thirst and get in more fluids. I even add in some Protein drinks like Isopure or the like for some extra protein. As long as your meeting those Fluid and protein goals, you can take your time adjusting to the new meal regimens. Sounds like you haven't encountered any stalls yet, so be aware they are coming. It's just the body trying to adapt to the changes and hang on to remaining weight. It will adjust and the weight loss will resume. Don't let it get you flustered. Stick to your guidelines. You're doing great.....keep up the good job.

    Newbie Here

I have been on WW many times over the years. A good friend of mine is even a WW leader! When I was in my 20's, I lost 25lbs' on WW, and thought I could do it again. But as the years went on, my eating became more compulsive, I became obese (although only a 35 BMI, it was bad enough.) Many co-morbidities reared their ugly heads. I watched friends eat and exercise worse than me and lose, while I stayed the same weight. I spent many weigh in's near tears. I had this surgery to get healthy. Now my blood sugar is under control, and soon I expect to see my sleep apnea and high cholesterol disappear. You may have thinning hair for a bit, your stretched-out skin may sag, but you will be PROTECTING your health. If your BMI says you are clinically obese, you need to consider seriously what staying obese means to your health. Try to think beyond appearances only. Only you can decide if this option is right for you. Personally, I would NEVER go back!
  5. you may want to get with your NUT about what they want you to eat. What honk had for the 1st 2weeks and what I had for the 1st week. Every surgeon is different. I was able to eat sf jello sf pudding, sf applesauce, beans, cottage cheese, ff milk and the likes from day 2. I'm 2 weeks out now and I'm on real foods. it's may only be 4oz per meal, but many others are still on full liquids. So, find out what they want from you. Protein shakes are a must though. You know that you will get full easily. I found I like the premixed ones better than the powders...
  6. The only thing I have been focusing on in my fitness pal has been my protein intake. Then I notice my sugars. What should that number for sugars be for the day and what else should I be watching? I normally hit around 800 calories a day and around 90 grams of protein. I had surgery 02/21/12 and have lost 105 lbs
  7. Here's the form I used. It's a combination of the ones I've received and input here. My PCP said I don't need to do the daily log, she's never had insurance ask for it, so I'll be taking that off. *I took out some lines for writing, but you'll get the idea...insurance wants to see that you are being EDUCATED on more than just diet, so have them take good notes (Bottom section-we discussed my family history this month and how important that is to be aware of, and I typed a list of my family history to include). Too tight???

i think you are too tight. You could have the slightest bit removed. Most people do find that when they are able to eat solid protein, they actually lose better.
  9. My surgery is on February 25th. I was put on a high protein diet, to shrink the liver for surgery on February 15 when the surgery was scheduled. I have lost 8 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. I was not given a certain amount of weight to lost but just told that the weight loss would shrink the liver and make the surgery easier.

    First day of liquid diet

Try EAS AdvantEdge, they are low carb high protein, 110 cal, 17 grams protein. They are the only ones I can drink. I'm over 10 months out and still drink 1-2 a day to get the protein in. I couldn't stand any you mix or the Isopure that everyone raves about. Everyone has different tastes, keep trying til you find one you like.

    Intro - HCG

If that's all you eat I'm going to say you're not eating enough, at all. Do you weigh the food you eat? If not look into buying a food scale, mine has been god sent as I'm not good at eyeballing things, my eyes will always be bigger than my stomach. In any case I don't think you're eating enough. Do you log your food? Again, if you don't, try it, but from what you typed I'm sure you're barely eating 1000 calories. If you're exercising you're going to want to eat more. If you want to do that in the form of a Protein Shake, go for it, though you'd probably appreciate whole foods better. When I was really "on the wagon" so to speak I generally ate this: Breakfast: 2 eggs or 2 servings of egg beaters with low fat cheese and turkey bacon/sausage Snack: Protein Bar, some sort of fruit, or cottage cheese Lunch: Usually 4oz of protein + veggies (I used to do chicken + Beans + cheese + salsa + sour cream) Snack: Similar to my first snack Dinner: Similar to lunch I have always kept my protein high (never gone below 110g protein a day) and in the beginning I did keep my carbs low but have since stopped doing anything low-carb. Maybe it's something you can look into but in the end its calories in vs. calories out. Let me know if you need more help! Good luck
  13. FYI: I have an allergic reaction to soy as well. Not as severe as yours though. I have had great success with the Amplify shakes. You can only get them from GNC though and from personal experience--not all GNC stores carry them. I like both the vanilla and Strawberry/Banana. 120 calories 4 carbs and 21 grams of Protein. I used this all last year.

    Meal Sizes?

Here I am, 12 weeks into my journey, and found out yesterday that I had misunderstood portion sizes and have been eating too much all along. When preparing my meals, I was having 2-3 ounces of lean Protein, 1/2 cup of veggies and 1/2 cup of fruit. I've been able to stay full between meals but don't have any "restriction" per se; I don't get my full signal very often. I just stick to controlling my portion sizes. I went in for my 3rd fill yesterday (now have 6 cc in an 11 cc band) and my surgeon asked how much I was eating. When I told him my plan, he said that ideally I should be eating 1/2 - 1 cup of food TOTAL. He explained that once I'm in the Green Zone it will be easier to reach satiety after 1/2 cup of food, but until then go ahead and have 1 cup. Okay, so, whoopsie! He didn't think there was any danger of me stretching my pouch since I explained that I do eat slowly and don't always finish my meals. I asked about doing a liquid diet for a while to ensure my pouch was restored to normal and he didn't think it was necessary. I know each surgeon is different, and I intend to follow his direction, but is the 1/2 cup portion size what you guys try to follow? Pre-Band Me would have been a little distraught over such a little serving but it seems do-able to Post-Band Me.

    Question about pre-op diet

If you decide to use a different Protein than the one recommended by your doctor, just be sure to check the carbs and sugar and protein grams. They can vary greatly. you can take your current powder to Vitamin shoppe and they can help find one that is comparable. I had great luck with one made by OH YEAH. I loved it pre op, and after surgery I couldnt stand it anymore.

    Hair loss

I've been using the Suave shampoo with moroccan argan oil in it since before I ever had my surgery. I only recently started taking biotin though. It hasn't helped yet but then, I haven't been taking it long. Fortunately, I have naturally thick hair so it's not as noticeable to everyone else as it is to me BUT, I keep thinking if it doesn't slow down or stop soon, I'm gonna be bald before it's over! And for the record, I make sure I get my protein in every day too so I don't think that's the problem either.

    Whey Protein Problems

Still an allergic reaction has nothing to do with timing. You may have been trying too soon, but if you had an allergic reaction to it, you will likely have it next time. Since whey Protein is one of the most common sources of protein, you will have to be careful in the future. By the way - just figured out your screen name. Absolutely classic. GOOD LUCK
  19. I started to get leg cramps last night in the calf muscle. My understanding is that deficiencies in nutrients like magnesium and zinc may cause cramping. Two questions: 1. My Multivitamin says it has 10% magnesium and 200% zinc. Not sure, but I also may be getting these from my Protein intense diet. 2. I have really increased my exercise this week where I have averaged an hour of intense cardio a day. I do still drink 100+ oz Water a day and 125 grams protein a day. Your thoughts?

    Hair loss

I use to have long thick hair..but thyroid problems got the best of it...got the band and hair started falling out. I am eating more protein and taking biotin and using a product called Nioxin. Its a hair shampoo and conditioner that I'm using...fairly expensive...but beginning to see hair soft and fluffy in balding spots. So if I keep up the combo I hope it continues. Also got an eyelash builder to grow thicker and longer lashes. It says it's safe around eyes but haven't started it yet. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  21. Maybe you can start over to phase 1 again? Try to start protein first veggies second and good carbs if you have room for them. As for everything you have going on let it go if theres nothing you can do about it. Stress does cause weigh t gain no doubt about it. We are here for you. You will get through this and the weight will start coming off again. Keep positive and strong, honestly only things you really need to worry about is you getting healthier for that new precious gift that God has given you. Good luck we are here for you.
  22. Have any of you tried Quinoa? It looks like bird seed..but it's a grain and very high in protein. One of my friends told me about it and it's very yummy! You cook it like you would rice. It's bland tasting but once you add a little flavor to it it's delic! I have it for breakfast every morning with a tiny but of butter and maple syrup!

    9cc's?!

Not sure about much as I am quite new to all this (was just banded on Jan 5th) but my docs told me that soda can stretch your pouch because of the carbonation...maybe if you've been drinking a lot of it that might be why you can eat a lot? I will admit that going cold turkey on soda has been one of the hardest parts for me as I don't think I had gone a day without it in about 20 years . I am still sad that I will never get to have one again (unless I let it get flat) but for now I'm doing okay. The other thing I've noticed on here is that everyone truly is different...you need to fill as much as you need to fill to be successful. I agree with the snacking idea...cottage cheese is full of Protein and can help with the hunger.
  24. I was actually wondering this the other day. Considering I cook for a large family, I knew there was no was I was going to be able to measure out before cooking, since I cook in bulk. After cooking it will have to be for me. If you use MFP I believe it gives you the option. Speaking of weighing... My food scale showed up toady...

See I cant eat that much even if i wanted to. I get this horrible presurre at the very back of my throat at the 2 or 3 spoonfull of fish, meat or chicken. So I stop eating. At first I was keeping a log of everything i put in my mouth and i was still not losing weight so when i went to the dr for my fill he told me im stressing out too much and to stop with the log. Well i was less stressed out because i wasnt using the journal but still no weight loss. I will start the journal again, however I really dont have a clue as to what amt of anything i should be eating. How many calories a day do you think i should start with and protein per day? I was thinking of consuming more protein shakes and getting some Protein Bars, any you recommend?
