    Newbie

Hi everyone, my name is deb I'm 43 married with 2 kids and 2 granddaughters I live in Cheshire I'm 6 weeks post op, I had wls 10 years ago and lost 10 stones, havin putting my weight back I went back to my gp they agreed to do a revision from a vertical banded gastroplasty to a gastric bypass, there were a few complications but I think I'm finally on the better side, still in abit of pain but its alot better then it was, I've lost 20kgs but 8 of them were on my pre op diet, I've not lost any for 2 weeks and feel really disheartened I've not lost more, feels like I'm still in pain got nothing :-(
  2. O week one is ok, I have heart burn a lot and gas yet gas x is not working, going to doctor tomorrow. I have only lost 4kg since surgery! I thought it would go quicker! I had lost most of that 3 days before surgery on the liquid diet. So I wish I can lose more! Maybe next week for week 2.
  3. I just had my labs done yesterday and the nurse told me that it takes around 3 weeks for the results to come back from all of the tests - 14 big vials of blood - glad I brought a string cheese to eat, still staggered out of the office after sitting for 15 minutes lol.

I think you should be fine. You'll be a week in a half out. Going off of my experience all my pain was gone and I had a good amount of energy when I hit a week in a half. I was sleeved on 9-12 and I don't take any of my pain meds anymore. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    TWO MONTHS POST OP

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your daily protein requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as protein shakes. Many people experience problems eating and drinking after surgery. Two of the medical conditions that can contribute to this problem is the development of strictures and ulcers. So if you find that your problem is extreme (such as constant vomiting) then I would recommend working this problem out with your surgery team. That is why they are there. The transition to hard foods (such as chicken and steak) can be rather rough. As a result I have relied on softer foods (such as high protein chili and soups). I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

    Thirsty!!!!!

Are you limiting yourself to 64 oz? You can drink more if you can handle it, just don't gulp. I was over 80 oz. at a week and drink way more than 100 every day now.

    Hernia?

I am almost one month post op from gastric bypass and been adjusting nicely. However, the last couple days I have been having an annoying pain right right beside my incision site. I'm hoping I am not developing a hernia or an infection. I've had a couple weeks pain free... is this normal? Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App

    Hernia?

I'll be one week post op tomorrow. I still have pain here and there if I try to do too much. I would take it easy and if it's bothering you, I'd call your call doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope you feel better soon

    Pre-op goals

@@jennmonterrozo - I used my lunch to practice eating slowly, small bites and many chews. It was good practice for week 3 post op. I like to grill extra's and use those for lunch. Worse comes to worse, ham roll up works great.

    Snacks On Pre-Op Diet?

My pro op was a 2 week liquid diet so snacking was not exactly very exciting,.... But I had sugar free Popsicles which saved me from going out of my mind. I think it was the hardest thing I ever had done..... But it prepared me for the three week post op liquid so it was pretty manageable Good luck!
  12. I'm wondering if I did some harm to my stomach I pick up 4 books at my college bookstore and I walked with them about 10 minutes to my car and I realize my right side of my stomach hurts horrible. Any way I bend down or twist right it's a kinda sharp stinging pain there, I'm almost 3 weeks postop what should I do? I see the surgeon in 4 days

    Pre op weight loss?

    I had a 2-week pre-op liquid diet, and lost 25 lbs.
  14. So i start my pre-op diet tomorrow and i am hoping that it is easier than it sounds. No real food for 9 days, but i guess it is for the good because it is getting me for the diet for the next few weeks after surgery. If anyone has any ideas on good protein shakes please do tell. I am still very nervous but i guess i have a little piece of mind with it knowing that i will be around for many years with my kids. I want watch them grow up and have babies of their own. Any words of wisdom from anyone is welcome!!!!

    Pre op weight loss?

I'm on my medically supervised diet and it's 1200 calories a day. I follow it to the letter-no cheating. It's almost 10 weeks and I'm down 40 lbs. if I lose more than 12 more in the next two and a half weeks I may be denied for surgery because my bmi will be too low!
  16. Got home from the hospital this afternoon - stayed 2 days. Not gonna lie, still feel pretty rough. Surgery apparently went fine, did the bypass and fixed a hernia. The stay in the hospital wasn't great. My IV infiltrated twice so my right arm is blown up like a balloon. I'm up 12 pounds from all the fluid in me. Sporting my stylish compression stockings for the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to getting through Sunday when I can finally have some soup. Still no regrets. 17. I have been on the high protien diet since 8/31. I weighed today and gained 3 pounds this week. My surgery is Tuesday the 21st. I don't understand. I am still exercising. Any ideas????
  18. Welcome to the forum Amanda! I think you'll find this is a very special place. It is a simple truth that one pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So logic says that creating a daily 3500 calorie deficit would result in losing a pound a day. Even if creating that daily 3500 calorie deficit is theoretically possible, it isn't realistic, sustainable or healthy. Perhaps creating a 3500 calorie deficit per week is a more appropriate goal? But unfortunately, even with that change, there's more to consider than the deceptively simple math. Proper diet and exercise following surgery will result in weight loss. As long as there is a calorie deficit, there is no question you will lose weight. But all of that weight loss cannot be attributed to fat loss. Some of it will be loss of lean muscle. And some of if it will be loss of Water. And to further complicate matters, individual metabolic rates are different based on a number of variables including genetics, fitness levels, and size. A heavier person has more muscle mass and requires more calories. So a heavier person will lose more weight with a weekly 3500 calorie deficit than a lighter person will. That's one of the reasons that the rate of weight loss immediately following surgery is usually more dramatic on a weekly basis than it will be six months down the road. Now add to that the fact that as you progress in your journey, your metabolism slows in response to the lack of calories. Our bodies have evolved to be much more efficient at defending a higher weight, than at allowing weight loss. And every single one of is unique so our bodies respond differently and at different points in our individual journeys. The good news is that you don't need an advanced degree in nutritional science to lose weight. What you need is a plan. Stay positive. Stay patient. Follow the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can. Maintain a food/exercise log. Trust the process and allow your body to find its own way in its own time. The laws of science and the universe cannot be denied. Resist the temptation to second guess yourself. There are simply too many variables. No matter what your weight is doing, follow your plan. Keep it simple. You'll find your journey to be so much less stressful and so much more rewarding. Do these things and before you know it you'll be celebrating your success every day. You're gonna love the new you!!

Need help to start losing again

Hi, I am only 10 weeks post-op, but from what I understand there is no finish line. Everyday will challenge you. I use a food scale and weight out my portions of food for the day. I do not eat anything with more that 12grams of sugar per serving, even though I know I can tolerate more than that. I work out 6 days a week. (a mix of weights and cardio) I hired a personal trainer. I am training for two 5K races. I joined the Obesity Action Coalition. I have surrounded myself with friends and family that support my new lifestyle. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on, that I think will help me on this new journey. I talk to my dietician weekly, and I go to all of my follow up appointments. I joined two support groups. I say daily affirmations to myself when I wake up. I TRY to eat 100 grams of Protein a day. I know 10 weeks is nothing compared to the rest of my life, but so far these are the things that I have done and continue to do to make each day successful. Hope this helps!!
  20. I'm four weeks out with rny. I'm still not hungry. It's a bit of an issue because I need to eat for some energy, but everything sounds horrible. It Wil get better. And I'm a third of my way to goal already. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

As the others have said, you just have to live minute-to-minute and hour-to-hour for this first little stretch. It will feel like eternity, but then a couple weeks from now you will look back and think it went so fast! Hang in there.

I mean this in the nicest possible way... All you can do right now is suck it up and deal with it. If you pain is unbearable, call your surgeon but most likely, it's just gas. Walk it out. If you don't like sweet drinks, you are in for a long few weeks. I hate sweet drinks, but I can do anything for two weeks, I just had to keep telling myself that. Things get better after day three and then you will hit a brick wall around week three, or at least, I did, and then things got MUCH better. I was exhausted and because of a stricture, stuck in purees for about 6 weeks. It sucks, but it's so worth it. It's sort of like childbirth. It's horrible while you are going through it, but once you're healed, you forget all the bad stuff and enjoy every minute of the good. You'll be ok.
