  1. I may not understand completely exactly what your dealing with but 5 weeks out was tough for me including soup I was getting about 15-20oz total a day for everything. Food never stayed in me I puked all food up pretty much so I just went back to soups and even then I started puking that up too. In fluid today I do like 25-30oz a day now this includes ice poles I am 3 and half months out and eat total in the whole day about 5oz of food if I am lucky. It got to the point I did get mad and kicked off at them that’s when they told me to go back a couple of stages and cut down how much I tried to eat the standard 40z thing half a cup was too much for me, its still too much for me now I only eat 1oz portions and drinking 4 or 5 mouthfuls and I have to wait about 20mins mins or up it comes again. They were gonna check me for scare tissue but when I cut back on portion size and stopped trying to drink so much I puke way less not completely never again half a teaspoon more than I should and blugh up it all comes but its easier not trying to be the standard this is what you do at this stage cookie cutter info and tailor it to my own personal needs. I do what I can manage if I can’t increase my intake in 3 months to 4oz at a sitting they will check for scare tissue. I just personally don’t see how moving your intestines will fix the issues with your stomach they can’t reopen your stomach put it back then do the bypass you don’t have the rest of your stomach to do that with. Going bypass to sleeve is easy because you keep the rest of your stomach in bypass its just closed off so they can convert. I’m not a medical doctor just going by what I know of the 2 ops and my own personal experience of having a hard time drinking and eating, so I am wondering how this is meant to help you eat and drink when all it will do is make you absorb even less of what you can barely take in right now. Like are they thinking if they do the intestine move you will loose more weight so that’s the end result they are happy with? Or do they honestly think it will make you eat and drink more?
  2. I don’t; get why you would have bypass the only thing they can do from the bypass is move your intestines that doesn’t solve your stomach issue. Btw you can take the full 8 weeks or more to heal that’s why they say 6-8 weeks for internal healing some people heal slower so if you’re a 8 weeks or longer person your going to be sore and swollen for more than 8 weeks. To me its jumping the gun I was swollen still past 8 weeks, even the small amount fo food I eat in one sitting I can see my stomach stick out like I binge ate and stuffed myself with buckets of chicken and pizzas its kinda funny considering its just 1oz of food nothing at all crazy but it sticks out when its full! I think we also worry and over stress about everything in the early stages so the tight full feeling from being swollen turns into oh my god it went wrong its too small I have a leak I will never be able to eat/drink more I did such a bad thing to myself fix me fix me!!! Your doctor should have told you to maybe cut back n portion size and wait a few more weeks for the swelling to go down. I had to backtrack to the soft stages and work my way forward again because when I hit solids it was ridicules and I just puked all the time.

    Drinking Wine?

When is it safe to drink wine again? I had my gastric bypass on 4-4-13, and my we're throwing a surprise 50th birthday party for my mother-in-law on May 11.. Just wondering if I'll be able to have a glass by then? Obviously this is something I'll discuss with my Dr at my next appt, just curious to hear other peoples experiences...

    New Here!

I had lapband in 2009. I can eat/drink ANYTHING I want. I do have a couple of foods that caused me grief a few times....so I just don't eat them any longer. But, hey....some things are worth giving up to be healthy! Who really "needs" brussel sprouts anyways You'll learn what works for you with any procedure you have, if you're dedicated to success. I've attended support group meetings for years. There are band patients, sleeve patients and Bypass patients there. I've seen a LOT of success with each procedure and those that have struggled with long term success with each procedure. Not sure why....but its just a fact. I wish you much success on whatever procedure you and your doctor decide is best for you! Theres a new life out there waiting for you.....go get it! Best wishes!

    Mega cravings

I was told with the sleeve you have a 50/50 chance of having digestive issues with sweets. With the bypass they remove part of your small intestines and that's why a majority of bypass patients have issues with sweets. Your small intestines do more digesting than your stomach....which is why with bypass surgery there is malabsorbtion problems when it comes to nutrients. (that's how it was explained to me by my nutritionist....I am no where near an expert with this stuff) I have absolutely no issues with sweets.....I stay away from the real deal and eat fruit, s/f Jello and pudding. If I want something crunchy sweet I have a special K Protein bar or something like that. Nature Valley has some good Protein Bar options too. Unfortunately it is going to take pure will power to step around things and choose wisely. You will find your way

    Hunger torture

I had a revision surgery from sleeve (2012) to gastric bypass Jan 29 2018. I am on a liquid diet until I see my surgeon on the 14th. With the sleeve, I didn’t feel hungry at all after surgery and was barely able to drink. But with this surgery, I am starving!!! It’s such torture cooking for and watching my fiancé and kids eating and not being able to have anything but liquids. It’s been such an emotional battle for me and I find myself literally crying over it. Am I the only one or has anyone else gone through this? Thanks!
  9. Hi , Having gastric bypass on the 31st woot! Was wondering what medication they give in the hospital to help with the gas pain? Everyone is talking about gas X but I live in the UK so. Was thinking chewable pepto bismol might help. Thoughts?

How Much Did You Lose In First Weeks?

I have a over 150 lbs to lose, and I have read that with Lap Band you dont lose as high of a percentage of your excess weight as you would with bypass, but I am dead set against something so evasive...so I have chosen lap-band. My doc wants the weight off quick because its causing lots of probs with my back and knees..but I am confident that once i get the first 40-50 lbs off, I can keep myself working out and eating the right portions and food choices to get the rest off. Maybe not as quickly but still quicker than If i didnt get the kickstart with the surgery. Reading what most ppl have lost in the first month or two, is very exciting and makes me that much more certain that the LB will work for me! Thanks Becky

    Mexico

Hi! I am 7 days post-op. I had a mini gastric bypass at the Star Medica hospital in Juarez, Mexico. Dr. Jose Rodriguez did a fantastic job and I swear I've never been better taken care of in any hospital in the states. It was a really great experience and if I had to do it again, I wouldn't' change a thing. The company I went through (BeLiteWeight) is definitely not the cheapest but everything went smoothly. We even had an English speaking assistant for our entire stay (2 days). I paid $7,900 (MGB). The price they charge for the sleeve is $6,800.

Info needed on these Dr. in DFW area

Dr. David Kim is my doctor. He and North Hills Hospital are an ASBS Center of Excellence. He has had ZERO deaths from Lap Bands or Gastric Bypasses (has done around 500 surgeries total) and has had ZERO erosions and only one slip. He was WONDERFUL. I highly recommend him!!!

    Just Banded Today

I was told the lap band was a day surgery. If I would have gotten bypass or sleeve I would have stayed. I think they should keep u though because I can't get a hold on this pain alone.

    Did I mess up?

I am seriously considering the lapband surgery because of my struggles with my weight my entire life. I am trying to get my ducks in a row now so that when I decide to move forward with the surgery and pursue it, I know what will be expected. I have been reading on the BCBS of AL website about the bariatric surgery requirements. One says that you have to be at their required BMI for a 3 year period. Well...I have been overweight since I was married in 2001 and even throughout my teenage years (except when I went on WW at 15 yrs old only to gain it all back and more) but in Sept. 07 I began a strict diet of 1300 calories and exercise that just about killed me but I lost 20lbs and got to the 200lb mark. After that I stalled and couldn't lose a thing so I began a doctor supervised weight loss program that included the low cal/low carb/low fat diet and adipex (phentermine) and lost another 25 lbs putting me at 175lbs in Sept. 08. In November 08, I wound up in the ER due to atrial fibrillation and it was suspected that the adipex was the issue. So, I stopped it and of course the weight began to creep back up to around 190lb when in August 09 I found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately, the baby passed away and I miscarried at 15 weeks. At that time I was up to 210lbs. Now, I am at 215 and cannot seem to get my weight to budge. I am tired of the yo-yo dieting and really want to change the whole situation. I am afraid that having done all the dieting a few years ago may mess up my chances of moving forward in the next 6-12 months w/ bariatric surgery b/c of the "three years of obesity" required by my insurance company. None of the diets that I lost the weight on was covered by my insurance and I paid out of pocket for this the entire time. Does this period in my life have to be reported to the insurance company? How do they "document" that I have been obese for 3 years? I rarely go to the doctor other than my OBGYN for my yearly check b/c I am never sick. What records will they pull??? I am hoping (probably to no avail) that maybe these months of being a lower weight might not have to be included in documentation. I should also tell you that I have documented severe sleep apnea if that helps! Any advice??? Thanks in advance! Leigh:smile:
  16. 1) I bought the unjury Medical Protein powder chicken broth & Flavored for shakes. I know the full scoop calls for 8 oz of Water or Milk but how much should I make (what will i be able to drink in one sitting) in the beginning (Phase 1 & 2?) I don't want to waste! 2) I am worried about hair loss ( I am already pretty thin) Should I get and start the Vitamin regimn that i get from the doctor and start it now? I am 3 weeks 5 days out. 3) My surgery is November 3rd. I know its crazy but Thanksgiving is always at my house and will be no different this year except Im not cooking my dad and sister in law will do the cooking! I will just start soft mussy foods on the 25th (2 days before thanksgiving) What are some suggestions on things i could "enjoy" Mashed potatoes (is a little gravy ok?) let me know what worked for you in the beginning. 4) Is a recliner chair necessary to sleep in after surgery or is the bed comfortable? Thank You in Advance
  17. I am November 25... Nervous but excited! Good luck everyone:-)
  18. I live in Frederick County Maryland but my surgeon is in Reston/Fairfax. I just had my first meeting yesterday. I'm torn between the bypass and the sleeve.
  19. Not sure where you read that... but both of those statements are not accurate. Overall, more folks still have hunger than not. And no bypass patients *CAN'T* absorb all the calories consumed, the whole point of the redirection of the stomach acids are to reduce absorption.

    Port pain[emoji37]

I was wondering if any who has the lap band has pain at the port site? I'm the process of having a revision with the gastric bypass because I plateaued about 7years ago and there a lot of issues with it like acid reflux, getting food stuck and then vomiting and having port pain too. I had the band since 2009 . Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. Yeah, that's pretty much what I've understood about the NSAIDS too. Obviously, NSAIDS are generally hard on the stomach for anyone, not just bariatric surgery patients. But some people feel their situation is such that they must have some. I understand that some people have even chosen the sleeve over the RNY because for bypass patients NSAIDS are totally forbidden.

    Eating Out

Ok as far as fast food goes, we will usually go to the following places: Round Table (Gourmet Veggie-I'm able to eat 1 piece) Taco Bell (1 crunchy taco supreme) Del Taco (1 taco el carbon) Jack in the Box (1 regular taco) Wendys (1 small chili-I eat about 3/4) Panda (1 tiny side-I eat about 3/4) At restaurants close to home, I will try and order steak or prime rib and just take the left overs home. I just went to PF Changs yesterday to Celebrate our November birthdays at work yayyy, and I ordered the chicken lettuce wraps and ate 1 1/2 and took the rest home ...Or I will just share something with a family member. We recently went to Red Robin and my daughter and I shared a guacamole burger (I couldn't eat much of the bun and ate 3/4 of the half lol). Hope this helps

    Nerves

You all will do fine! I was in that same boat with you - nervous as can be - second guessing all the way up to the operating room doors! More of a joking second guessing, but I was majorly scared. After it was all done and I opened my eyes - ahhhhh.... I do know it was the best thing I could have done for myself. I looked at it this way - I'd much rather have this surgery now than have a heart bypass later, or whatever else was surely down the line for me. Plus I'll get to enjoy a much better life - not to mention a longer life - in the meantime. You are doing the right thing - you're still going to be scared, but once it's over - the fright goes away and you know things are in your control - your work begins.

Weight Loss Coaching Support Group: Solving the Puzzle Together

I have a dream! That dream is to bring a Message Board to LIFE! I know it is possible because I have seen it happen. I've lived it. Imagine a Message Board in which you can hear each other, sometimes see each other, actually get to know each other in a deeper way than just typed words. Now imagine that a Weight Loss Surgery Coach moderates and guides the multi-sensory discussion, inviting self-inquiry in a safe environment within a small group. In a safe, nurturing group of eight beginning on October 19th we will make friends with our stressful, limiting beliefs about food and our bodies and transform our thoughts and behaviors. Have you ever noticed in the Message Boards how many of us have the same critical thinking about our bodies and our abilities (or inabilities) to relate to food in a healthy way? In this class, which will meet by phone in a conference-call, we will kindly and compassionately look at the beliefs we have created about our bodies and food, and consider: - Which of our beliefs are actually true? - Where did those beliefs come from and what unhealthy behaviors are triggered by them? - How do those beliefs serve us? - How do those beliefs limit us? - What beliefs can we create that may be truer, kinder and serve our health and well-being? Each week for 6 weeks our group will meet for 90 minutes together in which we will discuss and share the insights and struggles of each of our journeys with food and body image. Each week 1-2 participants will be coached by me on an issue common to us all. Then, for one hour during the week, in pairs, you will meet (by phone or Skype, your choice) with a different class-mate each week and coach each other on a body-image or food belief following easy steps I will teach you. This structure actually creates a support network that in prior groups has lived beyond the end of the class. The benefits of this class will include: - Greater awareness of the beliefs you have about your life that trigger unhealthy eating. - The creation of new, healthy beliefs about yourself that support healthy eating and healthy body image. - a plan for changing your unhealthy patterns into healthy patterns - you will learn to nourish yourself and your soul in ways that don't have calories. You will find that you need food less and less for comfort and more often for fuel. - A community that understands your challenges and supports you making the changes you want to make in your life. This group is only open to 8 participants to allow individual attention for each person over the course of our 6 weeks together. I have participated in and facilitated this group dynamic many times and it has allowed me and others to be free of damaging, hurtful beliefs about our bodies that triggered self-abusive eating. I am honored and delighted to guide this class and be taught by you as well. I am passionate about this work and I have witnessed its' power to transform. Will you join us? Group Details: 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Pacific (7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Eastern) for 6 consecutive Sundays. October 19, 26, November 2 and 9, 16, 23, 2014. The last meeting will take place several days before Thanksgiving and will put us into a healthier, stronger frame of mind the the Holiday Season. To get more information, including cost, and to apply please email me at CoachMeSara@att.net or www.lifecoachsara.com to learn more about me and what I offer. There is an Early Bird discount until October 1, 2014. LET'S HEAL TOGETHER!!
