  1. I showed the protien in the tube to the dietician at the hospital and she thought they were awesome, however with that said, i tasted one preop and they are very thick and syrupy. Not sure if I could get it down. After 7.5 hours of sitting in the ER waiting room with not being called back, I went home. It was a mad house. I managed to drink 4oz of chicken broth when I got home. Feeling better this morning. Surgeons office said the diarrhea was unrelated to surgery and I must of gotten a stomach bug. Both surgeon & PCP referred me to ER for fluids, but apparently it wasnt serious bc I was never seen. Gonna focus on getting down as much Protein and fluids as I can today.
  2. Was it maybe Demarol and not Toradol? The morphine worked great for me for the first day post-op. I had a pump set up by the anesthesiologist and could hit it every 15 minutes as needed (it's set so you can't OD). For a while I was trying not to use it and the pain was awful. The nurse told me not to be a hero--that's what it's there for. LOL. Once I was done with that, they switched me to Percocet, which I hated. It made my vision all weird and I felt really anxious on it. So they switched me to Demarol and Tylenol (you can't have Tylenol with Percocet bc Percocet already has Tylenol and you could overtax your liver). This combo was better for me. Your mileage may vary. I'm grateful to the nurse who suggested that maybe I wasn't feeling well bc of the Percocet, bc I also got to go home with Demarol instead of Percocet.
  3. I have BCBS of Illinois. They took forever. I thought it would be quick because I didn't need 3 month diet supervision. Nope. They took full 15 business days for approval. That was for Pre-Determination. I was calling insurance every few days bc I started a new job and family was coming to town. When insurance said they sent it, I immediately called surgeon. Well, BCBS of IL mails it to surgeon. There went another several days. Ok. Great! My surgeon got the pre-determination. Let's schedule!! Nope. My surgeon's office then had to get Pre-Certification. Another 15 potential business days! All said and done, it took a month and a half to get all that and now I am finally scheduled for the end of June!! I hope your situation goes more quickly!!
  4. HI, I just wanted to encourage you to call your ins. co now!!!They were soooo helpful to me in my decision to do this....I have BC/Bs ppo, they told me that I did not have to be preapproved, gave me a list of the conditions that I would need to meet, she was very helpful...You do have to follow all of your Dr.s reccommendations, testing etc...my surgery was paid for after about 1 wk after surgery!!!!AWESOME. If one person tells you no, call back and speak with another to be sure. If they all say no ask to appeal, this is a life threatening situation and you need this surgery to stay alive and get healthy! Good Luck, oh I'm in MI also, Armada near Romeo where the apple orchards are...if you need a GREAT Dr. let me know. Nancy

    Weight Gain

Carbs really cause stalls. Outside of the whole 3 week stall being normal. You **REALLY** need to push the fluids, your body needs water. And it uses water to process fat. So, if you don't give it enough to do what it needs to normally, fat removal isn't going to happen. Current medical research is showing that humans need between 90-110 oz of water a day... for a normal person. This is why I push the 128 oz a day number. Because if you want to process fat, you need to give your body MORE water than it needs to meet it's daily requirements, this way, it'll use the extra for fat processing. Do your best to stick to your actual diet. Straying is only going to sabotage your process. You are the ONLY person that can do this... so, do it. Yes, it's hard. Yes, it's emotional. Yes, it F'n sucks... for a while. But then, those new habits are habits and the old ones are gone. It takes 2 weeks on average to make something a habit. It can take a month or more. Just get back to doing EXACTLY what you are supposed to, suck it up and deal with the BS for a while... and then, before you know it... it won't be BS any longer. This surgery is a tool. Only you can use the tool you've been given. You can chose to leave it in the drawer, useless and collecting dust... or you can use that tool to build the new you. Carving things isn't easy, if it were, then everyone would be carving up whatever they wanted... carving things is hard and takes time and skill and effort. You are carving the new you. Take the time and effort to make sure the you that you are carving... is the you that you want to see.

    AutoImmune Diseases & Swelling

Hey! I found I had lupus when I had to see my dermatologist's nurse bc he was too busy and she thought the rash on my face wasn't just a rash but checked for lupus. I was lucky, though cause my mom has lupus and got to learn a lot from her. I agree sleep should be your best friend and stay out of the sun, but I have a lot of the skin issues. I also use that emerg-c for immune support 2x a day during a flare up. They make 5 calorie ones. My dr says any purple or orange veggies are good. Also I know this sounds weird but I have found I have less flare ups if I workout more.

    Questions!

Darr I stayed the night mainly due to insurance purposes. I have federal bc/bs. that is what my doctor's office said. but I may have stayed anyway because my surgery was not until later in the afternoon, 5PM. You will find that the doctors are different on many things, pre opt diets, post opt diets, fills, exercise and more. it is a bit frustrating for sure. I have only been banded since June 7. Good luck to you. you will learn a lot from this site, it is full of GREAT people.
  9. I'm 31 and I've got a GREAT bunch of friends! So far no one has had any boneheaded comments. I don't care if I get one. I'll be glad to let them go from my FB life. I know lots of folks who don't really know in person 1/2 of their FB friends...well, I have a VERY large family (over 125 first cousins) I have 11 siblings. And I went to boarding school. So most of mine are people I consider family anyway. I told my Husband I made it FBO and he thinks it was a good choice. I mean we put on there about traffic, idiots at Walmart, when our kids do great things....why not put-(this is not how I worded it) I'm getting healthy & hot at the same time bc I decided its time to change physical me-which is going to end up changing (a little at least) inside me.
  10. I have Fed BCBS TX n they req a 3 month diet.

    "What are you doing?!"

"I'm just freaking awesome! And why aren't you??" Kidding. I've been very open and honest about my surgery. Which is easier in some instances because I don't have to make up anything. The truth is always easier. But yes, some people are very harsh & even down right mean. It's a lot easier at 2 yrs out bc I look and feel amazing & I can just tell them to kiss it.

  14. This post made me laugh bc I am a skinny girl dying to get out of this fat suit. I have always joked that God keeps me fat so I won't be trashy. Not sure I will brave a bikini but my friends have been warned to call the fashion police if I take things too far! Lol

    Bowel Movements....

I went out and bought some miralax and if there are no results by tomorrow morning then I'm calling the dr office when they open. I didn't worry too much when a week went by and even 2 weeks bc I had gone 2 weeks every other time but now that I'm 2 1/2 weeks its started to concern me. I will let everyone know what he says tomorrow if no results from the miralax.
  17. I just found this on a search and have the same problem. I got my band in 2008 (paid by BC) but since lost that insurance due to husband's job change. I've never heard the "no issues for over 12 months" and to try an appeal. Anyone tried this? My health insurance ended 8/1/2011 and I'm 47 with a family. Thankfully everyone else in the family has health insurance. Just wondering if anyone knows anything new on this topic.

    LCHF?

I read a lot of studies... in a rat study I read studying the long term effects of VSG, the rats fed LCHF had the greatest energy intake and the highest body mass compared to the LC LF and the LCMF rats... both of whom had no significant difference in their body mass. So no LCHF for me after this, I think. LCMF should be sufficient to induce ketosis, and then I have plenty of my *own* fat to break down for the remainder... The biggest issue is to not go so low in fat that you eat more Protein than your body needs, because protein is broken down into the various amino acids - and about 18 of those can be used to build glucose on, thereby throwing you out of ketosis... But given how little we can eat after sleeve anyway, I'm not worried about getting 'too much' protein after surgery, and I'm working on getting half my body weight in grams of protein for the two weeks leading up to it, to speed up healing.
  19. I got my approval in 24 hours. I am on BCBS Fed plan in Texas. Remember that most surgeries have to be pre-approved before hand. You mentioned that they "denied the claim". Do you mean that you had the surgery and then sent in the claim? If so, that may be the reason for denial. My surgeon sent in the pre-approval request to BCBS. He is a preferred provider with BCBS (I am on the basic option so I must use preferred providers in order to be covered for anything.) They approved 2 day hospital stay and the VSG procedure. No hoops the jump through, nothing. I was very amazed. Good luck to you. Remember....as a fed employee you have 2 level of appeal rights. One with BCBS directly and then with OPM. I recommend sending them an official appeal letter. Hope this helps, Donna in Texas
  20. Just wondering if some of you were approved with BCBS Federal? I was denied and I'm appealing. BCBS FED would not tell me the reason why it was denied they only said, the claim did not meet the criteria. That is all they could tell me over the phone. They said I would have to request this in writing. I am appealing this and asking in writting what was the reason it was not approved. I'm also requesting for a Bariatric Surgeon to be one of the consultants in the Appeal and Grievance Board. The band did not work for me at all. I was always starving. I hated it. I lost 17 lbs and then gained it all back and then some. Has anyone been approved for your revision from band to sleeve with BCBS Federal? Thanks. Thanks.

    WantToBe

I've had a real positive experience with BC/BS of Florida. They required lots of documentation and a 6 month diet. I gave them all they asked for and more and had no problems with approval or payment. Good luck!

    Nausea, Nausea, Nausea

Just throwing it out there - I've had the Mirena IUD for almost 3 yrs & LOVE it! It releases centralized hormones to the cervix only so no weight gain, crazies, or skin issues. I had the worst time with BC. Totally could not take any of them w/o turning into a psycho & packing on the lbs, but this hasn't caused any side effects at all. Oh, except one: I don't get my period anymore! Whoohooo!!!

    Lab Band & Birth Control

I don't know about the BC aspect of it, but the expectation for loss with a band is 1-2 pounds per week. So both of you are within expectations. We'd all like it to be faster, and it certainly seems to come off slower than it went on. Also, some just lose at a slower rate. When I was actively losing, my average was 3/4 of a pound per week. It sucked, but it got me to a normal BMI, normal blood pressure, and normal cholesterol. I think a pound a week is something to cheer about! Just my two cents.

    From: The Waiting Game

Waiting is definitely nerve wrentching. My coordinator told me that my insurance (Anthem BC BS) usually takes the full 30 days to approve. I am hoping for a quick approval so I can finally believe this is real. Right now, it just doesn't seem like reality. Good luck on your approval!! Keep us updated
