Hey everyone, here's my update: Surgery was 10/11. I was 259.8 (heaviest weight) right before I started my 1 week preop diet. Down to 248 right before surgery. Current weight is 219. I'm now on a regular diet since week 6 (currently week 7 since Tuesday). I can only tolerate about 3-5 bites before I'm too full. I eat 4-5 times a day to get my protein in and prevent myself from getting sick due to my stomach being "too empty". I'm averaging about 500-700 calories a day most days. I still struggle to slow down when eating, especially if I've waited too long to eat. Work in progress. I have started back the gym this week. I have made a goal of doing a 5k in the spring, and I have gotten a trainer to help me until I get situated and comfortable around the gym. I had the dreaded 3 week stall. It lasted 3 weeks. Broke this week. I think the gym helped. I still struggle to get my fluids in. However, I feel great. I have turned the corner and gained energy. My mood is better as well. I have decided to take a weekend trip somewhere (that part is not decided) as a reward for getting into Onderland when I get there. My reward for going to the gym 4x a week for the next 2 weeks is a new pair of shoes (I really need them because my shoes have gotten too big since the weightloss, its a bonus to use them as a reward though). My NSV: I can put on my shoes without wanting to be taken out by a sniper. My back pain and knee pain are gone (I hadn't had the pain long though, so it went away quickly versus someone who had longer chronic pain). I have energy and smile more!

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
Kelly729 replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm the same - I only get weighed at the dr. Last time I was weighed was 10/3. I won't get weighed again until 12/10. I try to concentrate more on the NSVs! -
I was wearing size 18 women's jeans before surgery. I easily wore size 14 jeans today!! I decided to try them on cause my others were getting too loose to wear, fully expecting them not to button. Excited!! Haven't been able to wear them in several years.

Happy to hear that everything is going well. I have been burping up a storm. I had heard that it is harder to burp after the sleeve, but it sure does help getting that air out of my chest. I’m ready to move on to purées already, and it’s only been 3 days since surgery. Best of luck to you and I hope you keep improving! Also, congrats on the NSV. That’s great news!!!!

Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017
Keira Fae replied to Mary Stokley Gromer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
sorry I didn't give any more update yesterday I as .... in an emotional train wreck They cancelled my appointment of the 18 and moved it to jan 22nd.... now they are telling me i do not need to do the liquid diet again HOWEVER they are not giving me any specific guideline. Except like no sugar i can follow a more or less normal diet. I wish they had a list of instruction when they delay someone for SO long. I already did 4 only liquid weeks. Now I am expected to do 5 more pre-op weeks. I found a list online and I think I will follow this guideline https://advancedsurgicalpartnersofva.com/util/forms/liver-reduction-diet.pdf it's a more or less "normal" diet that is for liver reduction. Now for a NSV I did not eat my frustration. I asked my boss to give me the week to digest all this and it was refused I was so upset at this.... so ill keep monitoring what I eat and stick it to this list I found but I need to re-do all my groceries and everything. And tell the government I don't need anything... yay... -
Whooo Hoooo! Great NSV!

Weirdest things you are looking forward to after surgery
BoredFatGirl replied to Krestel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I imagine that all of our NSVs would be considered 'weird' to those who are already in-shape. 🤭 Nevertheless, here are some weird things that I am looking forward to: Being able to cross my legs femininely. Being able to shop at a store that doesn't carry plus size clothing. Being able to feel confident about myself/body in front of people who aren't family or close friends. Being able to sleep without my CPAP machine (cya later, sleep apnea)! Being able to walk through IKEA (or even stand long enough to do the dishes) without needing a break. Being able to wrap a normal sized towel around my body. Being able to conceive and have a healthy full-term pregnancy. Being able to be more active and have more fun with my stepchildren. I am sure there are a ton more NSVs that I can't wait to achieve, though! -
NSV stands for Non Scale Victory. (When something happens that isn't related to the scale, that tells you you've lost weight) I am a really slow loser too. It's maddening. It would seem that as little as I am eating now, the weight should be falling off, but it's not. Exercise makes a huge difference, but some days I just can't force myself to go.

Hate to break this to you, but we are already two hot chicks. Sorry to just sort of spring that on you... Hotness is a state of mind. Those are wonderful NSVs! And you are right, too big does look sloppy, something that I hadn't even considered until yesterday. Apple, NSV stands for Non-scale Victory. These are thing that have nothing to do with the scale, but they remind us that we are successful no matter what the damn scale says.

NSV is a non surgical victory. Smaller size, loose rings, crossing your legs. Perks from losing weight.

You are doing great work Vines: O Great Mother of the Turtles. Thanks for all the inspiration! I have been pretty faithful posting my NSV's...got some good ones once I started thinking about it. Thanks for that! The Fall Challenge has ended and I still need to post a pic but I can use the Before pic for my After pic, in true turtle fashion. I lost 6.4 pounds. Ah well. I did post "what I learned" on that thread and I'll copy/paste here, since you asked about mental breakthroughs... ________ Things I have learned this challenge: don't skip breakfast and drink coffee all morning. Eat lunch before noon...don't wait until 2pm. Eat several healthy snacks in the afternoon, at least every 2 hours after lunch: a yogurt, 1/2 banana w/ peanut butter, an apple, or some sliced deli turkey...it curbs my appetite at dinner and I don't scarf as much as possible. Eat a small dinner by 7pm and nothing else after. 'Cept coffee if I want, which I usually do. Search for 1200 calories as best I can, which is actually hard when I eat as listed above. WOW! I have been busy banding my brain and it's helping. I don't need a fill. My restriction is great...not too little, not too much. I need to choose better. I know I have lost a few more inches all over and I have been posting my NSV's too. All good stuff. ________ I have been thinking like my mother...OMGosh, say it isn't so!!!! She has always had some cute gem of diet advice along the road..."just eat a 1/2 a banana with about a tablespoon of peanut butter for a snack, it helps tide you over till dinner" blah blah blah. She never understood, and I never understood the kind of thinking it took to be able to follow good healthy eating advice. A half a banana??? Who the hell eats a HALF a Banana!!!!! Well, me! Now that I'm banded. So, there is hope. I'm doing this thing and I may be a turtle, but by golly, I'll get there!! Keep forging forward everyone!!! And Kozmic...you are NOT alone! You can't come here and say that. Nope. Not allowed. ((((hugs)))))

Roll Call! Here! WITH an NSV thread, thank you!

welcome Louise! I understand some of your pain. Please make a list of your NSVs, since not all victories are by the scale. I know that in our culture pounds are all that seem to matter, when really they are only part of the picture. Hopefully this analagy will explain why I think NSVs are so important. When we look at a picture, a line drawing we see the outline of the object. We see detail, but the image is flat and one dementional. Now contrast this picture with one that more complete, one with shading and conturs. The more detailed picture gives us better and more complete information, it is more interesting than the simple line drawing. I think the information about pounds provides is the line drawing, just one bit of the picuture. When we start adding information from our NSVs and our inches lost then we start to see a more complete picture, one rich with dimention and textures.

I do the same thing, sneak down there, up and down and up and down. Which all adds up to alot of nothing. Okay, at 1/2 pound per week, it will take me 84 weeks to get to 145. That's about a year and a half. Blech. Have you started your NSV list yet?

Oh Candykisses, I am right there with you and your pain and frustrations. At about 4 1/2 maybe 5 months out I pitched the BIGGEST hissy-fit I've had in a long time. I actually threw my shoes I was ao mad. I came this close to breaking a window my the clinic, this close! I'd had my first fill, and after a month and a half, I lost one pound. Man, I'm starting to cry writing this. I've been such a good girl with this thing. And yet because I haven't had any significant losses on the scale I feel like a failure myself. 1200 calories a day didn't do anything. 1000 calories a days didn't do anything. Well, I'm down around 700 calories aday. and we will see if this has any effect. I plan to go weigh myself this Thursday. That will be 1.5 weeks after this latest fill. I will continue at this level at least until I go back next month for my next appointment at the clinic. Candy, you started at almost 300 pounds. I'm going to bet that you were not very active before you were banded. Certianly not very aerobicly active. The fact that you are going to yoga 3 days a week is AMAZING and this, for me, would be a huge NSV! You said yourself that you are feeling better than you have in a long time. I think you should stay with the yoga for now. It will continue to improve your strength and flexibility. However, I don't think that it will do much to tone you up, and it certianly isn't aerobic. It probably won't tone you up like working with weights will, but it is making you feel better, and it is also making you better. I know how hard this is. I also know how hard it is to deal with folks who suspect that we are cheating, especially when by all logic we should be losing weight. We shouldn't need to resort to Diet pills. But maybe Kathy needs one now and again. If I don't lose any weight at 700 calories I'm going to march into my PCP's office and demand answers. I have a low thyroid, but it falls in the "low normal" range, and she wouldn't prescibe any medication for it. Maybe I need to go on meridia for a while, maybe I need to go on diet pills too. I wish I had answers. All I have are weak platitudes, all I have are questions.

Feel free to PM me any time! Brenda, copy the BBcode, the top option for getting the ticker in your signature. And as for what keeps me motivated, well, it's my NSV list. Some days it is the only thing that keeps going. Right now, I've been reviewing it, remembering where I was last year, now sick I was, and how .... debilitated I was. I am amazed that have progressed so far, with so little scale victories. I'm depressed right now, because after getting my unfill, getting to the place where I can eat a massive 1200 calories a day, I've gained 10 pounds in 3 weeks. I spent about 30 minutes crying, and I'm sure I'll cry again.

Nsv - My Surgeon Asked Me To Be In An Ad!
SKCUNNINGHAM posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My surgeon has asked me to be in an ad for him! I was surprised and pleased. I have been interviewed by his ad agency, and the "shoot" will be later this month. I think it will be fun. There will be a video testimonial on his web site it may also be used in other ways. It surprised me because I am not some tiny size 4 person like some people get to at goal- I am happy with my size 10's and 12's. I am also not a "spring chicken" - I turned 55 last Christmas. I really would like to get rid of some jiggly saggy skin and would like my waist to be 2-3" smaller - but neither of those are happening before the end of the month! When everything is complete, I will post the link to the finished product. I am absolutely a believer in Dr. Nick (or I wouldn't have picked him). I am NOT becoming a "Paid Spokesperson" for him, or anything like that. I am doing this for him because I am thrilled with the changes I have made in my life since the sleeve. If I can help someone in their desision process to get WLS, that's great. So now the big question - what am I going to wear? -
I've had a couple of clothing-related NSVs this week. I bought a skirt online last summer that was too snug when I got it. After reading about people waiting too long to try on their smaller sizes, I decided I better give it a try. The waistband was three inches too big! I had to pin it! Also, today I put on some true size 16 jeans -- not 16W -- and they fit great! When I started this, I was wearing 18W or size 20 -- and they were snug. So I believe I've lost at least two sizes. My SV for this week is that I lost four pounds! That's my biggest loss since the first week after surgery. Do you think my last fill made a difference?

Here's a new one. I am currently in grad school. Returned to college after many years. My school has those annoying little desks with the chairs attached. Until my banding, I could barely sit at those desks and had to suck it in and barely breathe. Imagine sitting in this position for 2 1/2 hours! One month in and I can sit at the desk almost comfortably. I can lower the desk withour bumping into my belly. Another NSV is that I can easily fit into a size 16. My 18's are loose and if I want to, I can now shop in the misses department instead of womans. How I miss that! The clothes are cuter and there is a larger selection. I own clothes from size 6 thru size 18. I could open up a boutique! It will be fun to shop in my own closet too.

I went to my mother's 75th birthday party yesterday and I got so many compliments! The thing is, I've only lost 16 pounds so I can't imagine that it's that obvious. However, in advance of my surgery, I had emailed all of my family a fairly detailed explanation of what I was doing and how it would work and this is the first I had seen most of them since the surgery. So the main way I count it as an NSV is the tremendous amount of support I'm getting!

DIVA!!! I can't stop laughing. You CRACK ME UP!! :laugh I called my husband on the phone & read the poem to him. He was laughing too! Great job. So, my big behind was so inspiring to you that you just couldn't resist writing a poem about it - ha!! I LOVE IT!!! The Best Me - The panties are the same in the both pictures! They're the stretchy kind & just stretched a lot more in the first picture. They are pretty comfortable!!! I am SO RELIEVED To not have to wear the big ol' bras I used to wear. I now have normal undies that actually look decent!! There's a big NSV for ya!!! I'm still laughing.............Diva!! You're hilarious!!:Banane04:

My pants are loose, although, I don't really think I've gone down a pants-size, YET. My shirts are a lot longer....if you're like me, you spend a lot of time pulling shirts down to cover everything up. I haven't been doing that at all lately. My wedding/engagement rings are no longer tight. My greatest NSV is my face is much thinner. I have a picture of me taken the day of my surgery, and took one 2 days of ago of me and my youngest son, and there is a marked difference. That makes me so happy. I have been so self-conscious about my face, chins and neck, and I love seeing the improvement so soon. Keep going....this is all so exciting! I love reading everyone else's NSV's!

OMG! I just ate 1/2 of a Lean Cuisine! I could have eaten 2 of them before this band. I am totally shocked. Also, just bought spandex shorts to wear under my bathing suit for my Water aerobics, and they're XL. I was looking for 2X, they didn't have any, so I risked the XL thinking I could take them back if they were just way too tight. THEY'RE LOOSE! OMG! (I guess I could technically have 3 NSV's since I'm starting water aerobics tonight. Wouldn't have done that before the band....). Let's keep going! This feels so good. I always thought the WW saying of "this ______ feels better than food tastes" was a little corny.....but......well, it's still corny, but it's feeling more true now!

Kristin- Look at the ticker, you are doing great. I too love all us November Nymphs too! I would love to start a thread that tracks how much weight we are losing as a group. I think that it would be awesome to see how much weight we have lost all together. I am sure it is a lot. I have an NSV..I own a country store here in MA and all my customers cannot figure out what is changing about me. Usually they ask if I have done something different with my hair but then they say that boy you are looking younger. I finally break down and tell them that I have lost 53lbs. they are like wow it is amazing how much younger you look. I just love that because in a few weeks, I will be turning 40 eeeek! This Band was a gift to myself for being overweight over 35 years and wanting to change my life for next 40 years. Did I mention I love this band.

Just broke into 10's!!!!!!
LilMissDiva Irene replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
:D Thanks my peeps!!! Just enjoying the losing weight, and for once I feel like I can keep it off too. I'm lovin it!!! I told my hubby I want to get the girls done as soon as I hit goal. Everything else can wait awhile. I guess that's why I haven't even thought about getting any smaller shirts than mediums now. I doubt with the size I want I will be able to fit into smalls. Aaaanyway, here's another NSV... it's my TOM and I haven't really gained any weight (haven't lost either but oh well!!!). I'm keeping myself under control as much as I can. I blew it last time and didn't want to do that again. I'm almost out of it, so hopefully I can race to get to my Easter goal with time to spare!!! :D
