Tomorrow will be my big day! How exciting, back in June I had an Attempted Gastric bypass n it failed due to not enough room to work inside towards my intestines, so this will bea 2nd attempt to get it doned i had to go on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to loose a couple lbs n i lost 10lbs so hopefully this time it should be easier to get the surgery doned, also if the dr cAnt do the bypass they will do the lapband as a last resort. I really prayn ask for everyone here to please pray for me so that all goes good n for the dr to be able to do the bypass instead. Thank you all in advance

@ nailed it. I had a long post-op liquids phase by most standards (6 weeks), after a five day clear liquids pre-op. Talk about cleansing your system. It was hard, but doable. I'm glad it's over, but grateful for the benefits it gave me.

Oh, about three months I think. I started with 3kms on the treadmill and gradually built it up over time as I trained for various fun runs - I got to about 10kms within 9 months and now I like to keep it between 7 and 10 depending on the route, with maybe one short 5km one in there per week. However, I was banded at a BMI of 35 and was quite fit for a heavier person, obviously if you're more overweight and have been less active, take it at your own pace!

No Weight Loss No weight loss for 3-5months
Southkrypt posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have turned to this forum in hopes of finding some answers. I have my VSG back in Sept 12, I was 340-345 pounds at a 49.9% BMI. I am currently 245-250 and 31% BMI. I work out 3-4 times a week with Push Ups, Running 1mile on the tread mill, and play Airsoft on the weekends. For the past 3-5months my weight has not changed. I am starting to get concerned I will not drop any more. Is this normal. The Vitamins I take daily are Multi Vitamin, Calcium Citrate, A & D, Fish Oil, Creatine, BCAA, B12 and have a 16oz whey Protein shake every morning. I eat eggs, chicken, Fish and some pork along with Fruits and Veggies every day. Drink about 3-5 cups of coffee with the liquid Hazelnut creamer daily, and Drink 50-5oz of Water daily. Am I doing something wrong. I feel great, but think I should be dropping weight. -

LoveMySleeve! replied to Comeflywithme's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved on May 1st. Starting weight was 246 Current is 171. Im 5'11" and 38 years old. I couldn't be happier. My BMI in normal. People tell me I'm long and lanky! I love that! I wear a 10/12 and large shirts! I can wrap a pool towel around me! I can see my belly button. I don't mind if my husband runs his hands down my back cause I don't have back fat! Sex is better! Sure I would love to have a flat stomach! But will I? probably not! I have had 3 kids! Do I worry about my hair! Yes it's so thin! I take my vitamins everyday! Had a not so great 3 weeks around xmas but still lost a few pounds. Started back hitting 60+ calories of protein. And set a goal of doing Pilates everyday. Hope to strengthen my core and hopefully tighten my belly! So glad to see this thread. I have friends that had the sleeve and they made sleeve friends and they stay in touch on here. Wish we May sleevers could stick together. -

Sooo, if Medi-fast works so well
loganzmom replied to loganzmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys for all the input and advice. I actually am on the pre-op diet now (day 4) and am probably just getting pre-surgery jitters. I think I know in the back of mind that this type of eating, or lack there of, could not be done long term...heck, I'll be luck if I make it the two weeks that is required by my surgeon!! Thank you all for bringing me back to my senses. My surgery is on May 18th. -
Any January bandsters lifting weights yet?
Joaquin replied to gingerbug's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on 1/21 and so far I am just doing the treadmill. My goal for this week is to increase my time to 45 minutes ( 4 days a week) and then return to the elliptical on my 4th week. I was told that I can resume all exercise after 6 weeks but I am a little afraid of the core work. I will have to just play that part by ear. I plan on resuming my classes at the gym at 6 weeks but I may have to take them a little slow. The classes that I was taking prior to the surgery were high impact so I am a little afraid of having the port pain. -
Starting regular food
mylighthouse replied to justabitunique's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the first things I started (and I asked my nutritionist about it first), was steak. My daughter and her hubby were coming over Christmas Eve and my husband planned to cook out steaks. I was JUST at regular foods stage. I had no problem at all. I cut it into tiny pieces and took my time. I did real well with it. I also made twice baked potatoes with sour cream (light) and cheese, so I had that along with the steak. No problems at all. Ate about 2 oz steak and a few bites of twice baked potato. I am currently at 9 weeks post op. I have to say, there is nothing that I haven't tolerated well since my surgery. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. -
good foods vs. bad foods to go down!
Ravyn replied to intut485's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what about Filet Mignon, mash potatos and brocolli? Are those food items easy to swallow, if taken in small bites, and of course chewed really well. I am still pre-op, but my family eats this at least once a week and I'm wondering how I'm going to turn it down. Guess my band will stop me from wanting it. -
I agree. I am 14 months post op and put fiber in every drink I have during the day. It really helps. Keep track so that you know how often you go. You do not want to go through the pain of constipation. Once was enough for me early on. If you find yourself not going by day three or four, take Senacot. One pill will get you moving the next day with no cramping.

I am almost 3 weeks out and I called the doctors office to see if it was time to schedule a fill. The girl said " If you are not filling restriction anymore then it is time, but if you are still eating less then you need to wait". That's weird advice. "Less than" what? Pre-op? Ok, so I have been able to stay on 1000 cals more or less a day for three weeks. I was starving the first week and a half and have since adjusted to the limited food intake. I am not satisfied by any means but my stomach is not having intense hunger pangs. I notice in the last few days I am more hungry and able to eat more before i am full so I think I need a fill. Sounds like you might. Question: If my tummy is not ready yet will the fill cause harm? The fill has nothing to do with your tummy.

How many times a day do you eat 4 ounces per meal?
dreamingsmall posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just curious. 8 weeks post and finanly enjoy eating again * was abit of a chore at first* I am wondering can I really eat 4 ounces of food ( usually protein/spinnach) I have not tried anything like nuts or 'snack food' just would be my main food in smaller portions lol) My snack just was 2 ounces of grilled chicken a cheese stick and small amount of spinnach total 3.58ounces. Anyway I am on my second 'meal' so if i only do this three times I only have one meal left ha. Could I eat 4 ounce meals 5 times and still lose if I stick to protien /veg/cheese? Is this okay? What do you do? I have not spoke to my nut recently and at first it was 2 ounce x6 times a day and now i think i can almost get to 4 ounces i feel that means i will have to eat less ( ive never wanted to eat more lol its weird, i have found it hard to eat on a schedule and now i cant wait till the next meal time? Will this be okay for weightloss ? 4 ounce - 3 meals a day or 4 ounces 3+ meals a day which one seems best for weightloss ? Or do some of you do 2 ounce snacks instead of 4? thanks -
3+ years post surgery? Please tell us about your journey!
KelinTx replied to skinnyoneday's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 3 years ago this month. The first year the weight just flew off me. I will say i was very strict with myself and followed every rule to a T. I lost over a 100lbs the first year. My mindset was this, i willingly had an elective surgery that i was fortunate enough to have had insurance pay for, i'll be damned if i was gonna screw it up. I kept having small frequent fills in order to keep feeling a certain level of restriction. I am filled to 9.2 in the large VG band. I did have one temporary set back. I needed port replacement, i struggled to maintain my loss during that time when we were trying to figure out where my fluid was going. Luckily i did maintain my loss but it was pure hell without restriction. I joined a gym when i got to the point where i was comfy enough to exercise with others. I go 4-5 times a week. I will be perfectly honest and say i still have food issues and most likely always will, i am a total food addict. That is why i MUST keep myself super restricted so that it is impossible for me to overindulge. I am still able to eat anything i want but i am only able to eat a very small amount. Thats what works for me. -

I had been walking about 3 miles a week for the last 6 weeks or so but just can't get motivated to get back to it since surgery. Hopefully I can do at least a mile this week. Today was my first day back at work so I am just taking it slow!!!

THUNDER WHEELS - What is the fill process with Dr. Snow? I was originally going through AIGB but I think I would rather go to his office! LKGRUBB- I was very nervous up until the day of surgery and then just calm because I knew I was making a good decision. ROAD KING - Good luck! I am glad I was approved and scheduled within a week or I would have driven myself crazy thinking about it!

I agree your doctor will give you suggestions, what was on my list was low sodium clear chicken broth, popsicles, gautorade q2, basically anything clear and not heavy..then after two weeks I went on full liquids which included protein shakes, and more soups no chunks...then two weeks later, full food...good luck on your journey!

Drainage catheter
Spiceyfrog replied to Jaymmie Hengle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had my surgery yet, but I did ask my doc about this last week and he said 90% of his patients get theirs removed before they are discharged. If I am in that 10%, he would get me in within 5 days to have it removed. -
Dizziness and extreme weakness 2 weeks out
Twinmom07 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi all! I don't feel like I am recOvernight like I should. Surgery was July 5. I know I need to walk but I am super dizzy and feel like passing out anytime I am up and about. I am taking vitamins, but really struggling with fluids, etc. i -
Congrats on your surgery! I had surgery 1/16/09 and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself! The full liquid stage is tough, but once you get through it, you can get through anything! As far as how it feels to get food stuck? Horrible... This always happens to me when I've waited too long to eat and eat too fast (naughty, naughty me!). In fact, I'm writing this as I'm experiencing it lol. Basically it feels like my food is stuck in my throat. My hubs was banded 2 weeks after me and he says his gets stuck in like his sternum, so clearly it's different for everyone. Keep up the good work!!

Mine looked pretty much like yours. I had one bigger incision that had quite a bit of bruising around it, and it took almost 4 weeks for that bruise to go away completely. I think it is normal.

I hated the sleep study!!!! It has been a nightmare from the beginning. My doctor has three offices in three different cities, takes forever to schedule an appointment, has incompetent staff that lose paperwork. I'm just at a loss. I finished all my clearances, nutrition classes, blood work, psych approval blah blah blah in early November here it is January and I'm STILL waiting for an approval from him. I originally did the study at home then he claimed I needed to do the study in their overnight office. I barely slept either because hello... There is crap everywhere and I'm breathing through a machine that is hurting my lungs! So I push through the silly study and they tell me my number is 5. I can't remember the term off hand but I know it's the lowest number you can have for the mildest of mild sleep apnea. Mind you I have NO TROUBLE sleeping at all. So I had to get fitted for a machine, wait for it to be shipped, and now use it a full 30 days before my approval from his office. AND he said I probably don't need it. So with are you prescribing it? And then on top of that he says well I think it will be a good idea just in case you need during surgery... OK fine. I'm OK with that but if that's the ONLY REAL REASON you want me to have it then why do I need to use the dumb piece of crap for 30 days? Sigh. Can you tell I'm ranting. Just hijacking your post. Lol. My bad!!!! I seriously think its only for insurance and billing purposes. And extra doctor visits. Smh!!! Best of luck.
