Thanks for the feed back. I find if I eat slower and talk more then I eat less. That's pretty hard for me being the introvert, but I find if I eat with someone at lunch instead of at my desk, I slow down a lot more and tend to sort of play and pick at my food instead of eating, so net I eat the smaller amount. First fill is scheduled for April 4th, then I go back every two weeks until mid May while my Dr. is trying to get the band to the right place. I have the larger band and he said it takes a little more adjusting to get the restriction to the right place where he wants it. On a completly different note I had a NSV already that almost had me doing cartwheels this morning. I know it sounds lame but big to me. I was acutally able to buy clothes at Wal-mart and they fit. It was the largest size they carry, 3X mens, but none the less it fits. It has bugged me for years to not be able to buy what I call yard clothes or play clothes like tee shirst and stuff from discount stores like Wallyworld and such. Just seems so unfair I have to go to a speciality store to buy a tee-shirt to mow the yard in. So anyway, it was a huge victory for me this morning!

It must have felt really good to walk out of Wingers having made good choices@chiquitabananaz14 focus on little consistent steps...getting on the scale is up to you... don't feel defeated, you've reached out for support and it takes guts. Bravo! Not everyday is about the # on the scale we all have areas to work on to make ourselves stronger and more resilient...Just look at this thread...you started with honesty and openness and as a result we all found a place we can come for support and encouragement while we work towards our personal goals... your current choices have had a positive impact on others, that is an NSV if I've ever seen one!! Stay on your path:) -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
ddgalarza replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From Bridesmaids dress NSV to Band Slippage and repair surgery all in the blink of an eye. Well folks the results are in and my band has slipped which I knew when I was having heartburn, but my surgeon thought that an unfill would allow it to repair iteself. Well no such luck, just left her office and the band is still out of place and the only way to fix it is with SURGERY. So here we go again. She gave me the option to take it out, if I was happy with my weight loss so far. I was like are you fricken kidding me?!?!? I'm happy with the weight I've lost but I am far from done. ABSOLUTLEY NO REMOVAL! REPAIR REPAIR REPAIR! So now comes the waiting game of ins approval and availability on her schedule. If I had it my way I'd be in surgury tommmorw. I'm like lets get this show on the road and get this thing fixed and get the scale moving. Wish me luck. In the mean time I will try to keep on making beter food choice and hitting the gym like a mad woman! -
How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Good morning and Happy New Year to all Notorious Novembers! Scheduled for my first fill tomorrow morning - I'll check in and let y'all know how it goes. I am at a 'Center of Excellence' bariatric office (affilated with Yale University) so I'm hoping for an easy appointment with no (or very little) pain. The holidays weren't great - not bad, but not great. I did make it to the gym 6 times during my 'off' period. My office shut down from Dec 23 through Jan 5. I also did some snow shoveling and other stuff to try and keep busy. Had a NSV (non scale victory) on Jan 2nd. Went dancing with my hubby (swing band we love) and at the end of the night, even after dancing my shoes off - no knee pain! This despite the fact that I was wearing high heels and we danced a LOT. Looking forward to a fill, though - I feel like I've gained a few pounds since before the holiday and I definately don't want to go back to where I was pre-surgery! -

Hi Notorious Novembers! That is truly wonderful - that's a big NSV if ever I saw one! One of my best friends keeps saying to me that she doesn't want me to become a 'bobble head' with a big head on a tiny body. :hurt::cryin: I'm getting a lot of comments about me being "skinny enough" lately... DD - I'm following the same train of thought. I think I'd like to get down to 170, hold that for a while and see what I can do with exercise, then plan for a tummy tuck next year. With my DD starting college, there isn't a WHOLE lot of extra money to be had... Course, I'm also having some work done on the 'girls'...they are not what they used to be! -

You're gaining muscle and losing fat! Muscle weighs more than fat. Have you taken your measurements? It's a great NSV. -
Hello my beloved V V's!! Today is my Bandiversary and I couldn't be more grateful, blessed, elated, fulfilled and proud. I've lost 81 pounds and am still in shock over my new found health and vigor for life. This last year has been a journey like no other. As I think back on this day last year, I was terrified heading into the operating room, yet committed to making the life changes necessary to make the band work for me. There have many up's and down's, including some nasty PB episodes that nearly put me over the edge, but the NSV's certainly outweigh (no pun intended) any bad episodes. I am free from the prison of food. I no longer obsess about food, use it as an emotional crutch or surrender to its temptations. I understand what satiation and moderation mean and can enjoy the balance of healthy food along with endulgances...and not feel guilty!! I have discovered what true self worth means and for the first time in my life can say 'I love myself". This self love has made my marriage stronger, my frienships more meaningful and my life generally more abundant. When faced with challenges, I don't use food as an escape, I face them head on. For the first time in my life I didn't have the New Year's resolution of losing weight! I enjoy getting my picture taken. I have more pairs of jeans than I did when I was a kid. I shop at Macy's. I'm going to Maui in two weeks and am excited that I won't have to constantly be self concious. I feel like I look 10 years younger. My blood pressure and cholesterol are NORMAL. But most importantly..and this is the biggest gift of all...I have been given the green light to get pregnant and my hubby and I are hopeful that this is the year we become parents!! Yes...I am blessed. Thank you VV's for being the true source of support, love, and encouragement. There is so much power in friendship and I will forever be connected to all of you....especially Rhapsody...my sister from another mister!! Thank you for letting me share my thoughts on this very special day. I'm not going anywhere and can't wait to hear from everyone else. I'm also posting a couple of recent pics. Lots of love, Amy

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't really had any NSV. When I first got banded and lost 22 lbs from 4 weeks of liquids, I pulled out a pair of pants that had been tight on me. I started wearing those and I can still wear them. Nobody has noticed that I have lost weight. I have only lost 5 lbs in the last 3 months, so I can see why nobody has noticed. -
I don't feel I look the way people say I do...
54Shirley replied to KMO22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you are talking about. I lost the weight and I do see it, but I don't. So, I can't band my Brain ya no ? So I am going with the numbers I see in the size of cloths, the NSV's that happen through my journey, (LIKE TODAY WAS THE FIRST TIME I CROSSED MY LEGS IN YEARS !) Giving my cloths to someone else that needs them as I lose weight, looking forward to onderland, and every now and then, a glance in a Full Length Mirror, and I find myself saying Dam Shirley, your starting to look better. That's the critic in me, never good enough for me, So I still keep working on this for life. Someday I might look in the Mirror, and see that skinny person, but I guess I will just keep working at it, and have to wait and see. So don't let it get you down, cause your not alone at all. Shirley. -
Oh my goodness, Stace! You look great! What a wonderful NSV as to see your own pictures and realize how far yu've come! Congrats to you, keep up the great work. Karen

How neat is that! That must have made your day! I will love the day that I can actually fit into some of my smaller clothes, especially my smaller uniforms, I used to wear a L (now 3X) so to be able to get back into L's will just be the biggest NSV for me!:001_rolleyes:

how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?
Fiddleman replied to leeann71's topic in Fitness & Exercise
That is friggin awesome Anne. Breaking through any major boundary is such an NSV. -
Tonight I did what I thought was impossible! First, to put in in perspective: the Couch to 5k program starts you off with alternating 90 sec. walking with 60 sec jogging in week 1. I could barely make it one minute when I started!! Today I just finished week 5 day 3, which means I ran 20 SOLID minutes on the treadmill!!!!! I can't believe I did it, and it wasn't bad at all!! Just days ago I was struggling to finish 5 min blocks, then 8 min blocks. I was doing more than the people around me in the gym. I haven't ever felt that before! I nearly cried when I was done! But no, to Celebrate, since I had run 3.5K, I said screw it, and ran and walked even more and did the whole 5K tonight JUST FOR FUN. (Seriously, what's WRONG with me? LOL!!) I can't believe I've transformed so much in such a short time. The band has lightened me enough to find strength I've never known before. PS I called my brother, who has almost always been fit his whole life, even fit enough to run the NYC marathon several years ago, and he said that even he probably wouldn't be able to do 20 min right now. HA! Am I getting to be the fastest runner in my family? I can hardly believe it! I was always the slowest one. So I challenged him to do a 5K with me this summer. HA!!!! It's on!!

first post op flying experience
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Great NSV. That will be a great vacation for you and your wife. Enjoy the sunshine in your new self. The last time I flew I made double sure to get an aisle seat because I knew I'd be overhanging my armrest. When I boarded and found my seat there was a guy sitting in it. Apparently a man and wife bought tickets at the last minute that were not together. Before I ever boarded they had arranged with the stewardess to switch seats so I had to sit in the husbands old seat....which was right next to another 300+ lb guy. So here we were, the 2 biggest guys on the entire plane forced to sit side by side. Needless to say it was not comfortable and I avoided planes at all costs for years because of it. Now I'm ready though. Sorry for the long whiny story...just one of those really bad moments in time. -
77 lbs! Feels amazing, doesn't it. Congrats on your NSV! Daisy, do you like the dance classes? I've been wanting to try it.

Oh what a great feeling that is... I LOVE shoes... I can now wear heels to work and I don't feel like my feet have been dicontected from my legs... great NSV!!

Clothes Are Loose But Scale Is Not Moving
jen_1381 replied to Ashleigh Childress's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's what they refer to as a "non-scale victory" , or "NSV". Good job! It can be frustrating that the scale isn't moving when you really feel like it should be, but you're clothes are looser! Your body is going through so many changes. I find that after I start something new, like advancing my diet (I'm five weeks post-op) my body seems to hold onto EVERYTHING I put in it. I gained 4 lbs in 2 days when I went to soft/moist food last week! About 5 days in, I was back to my lowest and moving down but I almost had a freak-out moment when I saw the scale going up when I was barely eating anything! Hang in there. As frustrating as it is, see it as a marathon not a sprint. -
Friday I weighed in @ 288 lbs Today I'm weighing 273!!! 15 lbs in 6 days! Yay! NSV: Wedding ring fell of my finger! Was gnna get it resized but really there's no point, just gnna fall off again;)

Today I had an awesome NSV!!! I work for the State Patrol and they are supporters of the Special Olympics. They were looking for people to run our leg of torch run. So I participated. It wasn't pretty but I got it done. From Olympic Drive in Gig Harbor to the war memorial SR16/Jackson. It was a good 4 miles. Doesn't sound like much but considering this time last year the only way I would have completed it would have been in the back of an ambulance... this was a major win for me. Not only was it a win for me but it was for an awesome cause. -
I'm doing really well! I had my 6 week check up on Monday and everyone was extremely pleased with my progress. When I get down to my goal weight they might use me as a poster child, which they would show patients my before and after picture and I would speak to people just starting their journey. Sounds like an amazing experience to me. Eating and exercise I have done very well and I am starting to really feel like a normal human again, slowly though! I've had a ton of NSVs, which is the best feeling in the world!! Also, I'm visiting Florida in less than 2 weeks and I get to see my best friend for the first time in 2 years, he's going to be shocked when he sees me! How's everyone else doing? Not many posts on here lately. Hope everyone is doing awesome. Highest weight; 406 lbs Surgery date; 355 lbs 6 weeks out; 322 lbs.

So I'm on this committee that meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. I missed last month since I was on FMLA and this month's meeting (I'm 2 months out) was today. It is in the college of pharmacy in a classroom that we reserve so it has those chairs with the tiny desk thing that goes up and down in front of you. I hope you know what I mean. Prior to surgery, I would always have to leave the desk up and pull another chair over to me in order to write/look at portfolios on that chair's desk because the desk would come nowhere close to going down. Got some funny looks the first few months that I did that. Today, I went in, sat in my usual seat, started to scoot another desk over and stopped. I kinda looked around to see if anyone was paying attention and decided to lower the desk on my chair to see how much farther I would have until I could put it down. IT WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to tell someone and I was afraid people I know would think I'd gone crazy for being so excited about something like that....figured I could Celebrate here without anyone thinking I was TOO crazy! Just got back from my walk. I did 1.8miles with one pound weights on both wrist and both ankles. Then I took them off and did .4 without the weights just to cool down. I had an NSV while walking. I had to keep pulling up my sweet pants. I finally had to tie them. I couldn't put two and two together as to why they were falling down. DUH! I am still only down 24 lbs, but something is getting smaller.
