    Exercise?

For the first month I did only walking. 6 weeks I started doing the treadmill with an incline. It wasn't until 8 weeks that I started to do weights and start doing core work. Start slowly as your really not getting a lot of calories so even burning 200-250 is probably half your daily intake. Good luck- LA

    Exercise?

Depends on your healing and your doctor's protocols. I was okay'd for light weights (10lbs) at 2 weeks and could resume regular aerobic core workouts at 3.

    Exercise?

I am currently 5 weeks post-op ds surgery. I was ok'd for walking, elliptical and stairmaster after 2 weeks. I haven't gone to the gym yet bc I love to lift weights and it would be too tempting. At my 6 week followup I should get the ok for more strenuous exercise and to use weights.

    Exercise

My doctor said 4 weeks as well before going back to lifting weights or anything involving significant twisting through the abdominal area like Pilates or yoga. Swimming was out as well due to my incisions still being pretty fresh. I was quite content with just walking. I found it was great to just go for a walk to help shift the gas pains and to take my mind off eating as the hunger started to return post op

    exercise?

2 weeks post surgery I joined the gym and started elliptical (lol 1 - 2 min for a week and continued to increase time). I also biked for 30 minutes. I did machines low weights (no stomach excercises). (Doctor wasn't happy about that, just in case). I just got cleared for all excercise (6 wks post surgery). I am already up to 15 min on elliptical at a moderate setting and increased the setting on the bike. Starting to add more weight to my program. Because of the surgery I change my routine so I drop my son off at school and go to the gym workout then to work. so far so good!
  6. Huh?? Sounds like you need a new PCP. My PCP is completely anti-wls, in ANYCASE. She's kind of closed minded when it comes to stuff like that, and everytime I bring it up, she's like "Why don't you give Weight Watchers another try?"... HOWEVER, I am fortunate enough to live very close to a bariatric center, who (it seems) is handling it so I don't need to go through my PCP, and so far everything is covered, and my final paperwork will be submitted in 3 weeks. Maybe there's a different doctor YOU could try?
  7. Wow....it's not very often that I see a post from somebody hoping to gain weight, lol. I have my fingers crossed for ya. Good luck!
  8. I am even more worried now that I won't be approved because I don't think I'll make the 100lb overweight mark now. Sad thing is I've been trying to maintain my weight, if not gain about 5 pounds. However I lost a couple after I started my current job since I'm on the go constantly (nurse). Then somehow in the last week I managed to lose 6 more pounds! What the heck?? Had I been trying to lose, certainly I would have gained. Cross your fingers that between now and Monday I can get those 6 pounds back.
  9. I met with my surgeon yesterday for my post-surgery follow-up visit. I was all set mentally for my first fill (one of his nurses had told me earlier that I would likely get one if I was having no complications), and guess what? No fill. He said he didn't think I needed one. He is a man of few words. In the short time I had his attention, I tried to persuade him that I am ravenous an hour or two after I eat and that I am losing at a steady rate only because I'm walking 10 miles daily and following the "rules" perfectly. He didn't seem concerned that I'm losing only because I am highly motivated right now. His focus seems to be solely on total weight loss. I do trust that he knows what he's doing, and I certainly didn't expect this weight loss journey to be easy--- guess I was just hoping for easier than it had been before. The positive side is that I won't have to worry about being too tight when my family and I are on vacation.
  10. Last week was week 4 for me...other than the l-b's dropping, I was sure to TAKE MEASUREMENTS! So, here's my stats: I'm 5'6", 33, Female, starting weight and measurements taken at 2-week pre-op date. I took a TON of measurements...everything that I wanted to see a change in, but here are the highlights: 3.11.11 5.1.11 weight 255 221 neck 15 14 bust 50 46 underbust 44.5 39 waist 45 40 belly button 50 45 panni (ugh) 53.5 48 hips 51 47 thigh 30 28 calf 16.5 15.5 upper arm 17 15 above elbow 13.5 11.5 Total inches LOST FOREVER: 37"!!! This was some of the BEST advice I've received, it's so nice to not only see the numbers on the scale...but these numbers just make it all worth it!!

    Howdy from Texas

I was banded on April 1 in Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez. He is a wonderful surgeon and all has gone well since surgery. I have lost a total of 55lbs and I feel wonderful. I was 336lbs before and my BMI was 53. I am now 281lbs and my BMI is 47! The band does not lose the weight for you but is sure does help. Good luck in your weight loss journey! Sandy

Filled to 9cc or more in a VG band?

Bill, I have a 13cc capacity in my VG and am currently at 10.5cc fill. I still don't have great restriction. (I long to be in the 4-6 oz club). But it has been better since my last fill last week. Hang in there, I notice that you are losing weight. Nearly 60 lbs in 4 months is awesome. good luck with your next fill.

7 months post op and on a 3 month stall!

I had many stalls through this whole process, and yes sometimes for months. Make sure to measure your inches during stalls instead of weighing. Some people are exchanging fat for muscle...and I have said this a lot of times before; while a pound of fat and a pound of muscle still weigh a pound....muscle takes up less volume, and therefore you may weigh the same, or even more....but you are smaller because those pounds are taking up less space...which gives you the reason why it is so important to measure instead of weigh! Good luck to you, and stop stressing about it! Stress also causes us to release hormones which hinder us losing weight.

    Lost weight lost boyfriend

Weight loss aside, if you're finally able to step into your power and there is an adverse response then that alone should be cause for pause. I am a firm beleiver that anytime you make any life changing decisions there will always be casualties, sometimes these casulaties are obvious and easy but sometimes they are hard and hit closer to home. I remember an interview Oprah did with Carrie Underwood and Carrie was telling her that once she got famous there were good, close friends of her that started acting "weird" and distanced themselves. Oprah said it was the oxygen effect. The higher she rose, people started dropping off because they couldnt take it. This applies to our personal lives as well. Think about that for a moment.

    Started exercising today!

Started exercising today with my friend Tara. She came over today and we each did 20 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes on the elliptical machine, 80 crunches on the AB Lounge, free weights for our arms and my Pliates machine. I am going to be sore in the morning but it is going to be worth it.

    11 month update

I haven't been on here in a very long time. I thought I'd stop in and share my progress. I am a shortie at 5'2". My highest weight was around 210. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but I had been struggling with my weight for 20+ years. My surgery weight was 181. I have lost slowly and consistently for the past 14 months. I started really working on my weight loss several months prior to surgery. Today I weigh 114. I am past my original goal. I do not want to lose anymore. Typically I wear a size 2. I don't feel like a thin person, though. It is so hard mentally, because I still feel like I think like a fat person. Unfortunately, I have reintroduced some bad habits. I am drinking diet soda again. I am not getting the Water I should. I also don't always make the healthiest food choices. I just don't eat as much as I used to. I do get hungry and I do have cravings. I do exercise, but I go in phases with it. I love being able to wear fashionable clothes. I feel so much better in my own skin. I am really glad I made the decision I did. I couldn't have even have come close to getting this far without surgery.
  18. Hi, glad to be here. Went to Psych eval. today went very well. They approved me for surgery, so far everyone has been very supportive. When I left the mental health clinic I stopped by the Bariatic Clinic to drop off some paperwork from my PCP that I just got on Friday, that is where things went down hill. I ask for them to check my file to make sure that everything was in order. The woman that deals with that came from the back with my chart and she acted less that happy to see me. She opened my chart and said that I don't have a lot in there, alot of labs as she fanned though the pages. I ask he she received my records from the the other two doctors I had requested them from, as she fanned through them she said I don't know who these are from. As I looked over the counter I was able to see some of the noted, and realized then that she had received them from my GYN Physician, my previous PCP and there was a letter of surgical clearence from my current HCP and I was delivering my records from my current HCP office. She then said I don't know if you will be approved, I need documentation of at least 9 doctor visits for Weight Related Issues in the last year, I told here she you not find that. She then ask what kind of insurance I had and I told her BCBS PPO. She then changed her mind and said well maybe it was 4 quarterly visits. She said BCBS was getting very touch because everyone and their brother wanted WLS. She never took into consiteration that I have some co-morbidy Osteoarthritis, Hyperlipidemia, borderline hypertension and a 44 BMI. Sorry I carried on but I need to vent, I left there in tears and now have to wait to hear from them.:cry

    wow...

Bob, don't read opinions into your significant other. You may be projecting your own feelings onto her. TALK to her. If you feel comfortable doing so, let her know what you have to do to get back on track and lose the weight you've recently gained. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that she is more understanding than you give her credit for and she may be more than willing to stand by you in this endeavor...and maybe even help you out.

    Liquid for a week!

There are some foods on the list I was suprised I would be able to eat, for example, nuts, and I thought junk food wouldn't go down as easy lol (I have a friend who had gastric bypass that can not digest sugary foods and I thought the lap band would be similar, but it isn't-chocolate, cookies, and chips unfortunately go down fine) I have no problems with pasta in fact, with the second adjustment, I found it hard not to PB unless I ate pasta, it was a safe food for me, unfortunately, it is not the best food to lose weight with when you are trying to watch you carbs. I have problems with potatoes now (not on first adjustment but after 2nd-I am now on my 3rd as of today so I don't know) I can't eat them baked, although baked sweet potato goes down fine. Basically if it has sugar it goes down fine if it is healthy lately, I have had a problem. I do miss french fries, but, in some ways I am happy I can't eat them because they were one of the reasons I gained weight in the first place. I hope that helps, I know everyone is different Denise

    Just want to rant..

You're going through the toughest period of all....that adjustment period..AKA "Bandster Hell"... I was mad as hell, frustrated, felt the whole thing was a waste of time and money...a big sham...I even gained weight after my first fill...I guess I wanted instant results, which for me was not going to happen.... It took me a few fills and a few months after surgery to get the band properly adjusted and "Tweaked" before it started running like a well oiled machine....so yes, it was hard, VERY HARD at first...both with getting the band adjusted and getting my head screwed on right and adjusted to understand and accept what the band is trying to do and get out of it's way...stop being the boss and let the band take charge.......since then, it has been a dream...well worth the tribulation....cause now it's as easy as can be....2nd nature... Guess you got to go through hell to get to heaven....
  23. Hi There, I'm new to the forum. I live in Vancouver and can't find a Doctor that will perform the surgery. I have been to a seminar at the Northwest Weight Loss Surgery Clinic and I'm all for the procedure, but its a little pricey, 17,100 (incl one year of fills and aftercare). If I can't find a Doctor in Vancouver I will get it done there, BUT I would rather spend my money in Canada and perhaps a littel closer to home. Any suggestions??
  24. I can't wait! Congratulations! My weight is coming off so slow... well to me it is.
  25. I just realized that I'm only 3 weeks into sleevedom and I've already lost a quarter of my excess weight and the inches are flying off. Best part is that I have SOOOO much energy. My toddler wakes me up around 5:30am and I'm up, moving about, walking 3-4 miles daily and living like a normal high energy person chasing a mini Tasmanian Devil until I pass out around 11pm. I am easily meeting my daily Protein and liquid goals. Life is good. Since I am a self-professed datawhore, I've been diligently tracking all my stats including measurements weekly since Jan 22nd, a week before my surgery. If you're curious or nosy (or both) - here they are: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtW90JQQyIegdG1wZFpQemNDZTkxR1lodDRzdnoyaEE. Sleevie-poo, I think I love you already.
