    Tomorrow's the big day

Good luck tomorrow! I will have my revision from the sleeve to modified DS on 9/8. I look forward to seeing your progress!

    I got boobs!

Congrats. I am still pre-op for my bypass but can't wait to upgrade my boobs. LOL
  3. Hi all I'm new on here I'm having a bypass on the 23rd of August got a phone call the 28th July telling me I had a surgery date so had to start my milk liver shrinking diet straight away I'm having it done at Stoke hospital 4days of drinking milk and fluids and yoghurt not to bad at the moment just looking forward to it any advice will do

  4. I was banded for over 6 years, I lost all the weight but I was miserable and always stuck and in pain. The reflux was terrible. I had it removed and was supposed to revise to sleeve but I feel like my surgeon went very conservative because I weighed around 165-170 when I had surgery. 2 years after that and an additional 20lbs later, I revised to MGB and that was in April of 2015. The MGB was a huge difference for me from the band. I do still occasionally have foods get stuck or come back up but not often. The biggest issue with MGB for me is everything I eat goes through pretty quickly and as I'm sure you've read the stories, BMs can be a horrid experience. I was afraid to leave the house the first year but now it's a lot more routine (though I still have emergencies from time to time). I use IF and I work out 6 days a week to keep the weight off and I've had no problem staying within 10lbs of my goal .
  5. Just wanted to give an update on how my experience went. I always found it helpful to hear other posters experiences. Surgery was Monday, 8/9. Arrival time was noon. I was scheduled for 1:30 but they didn't take me in until 2:30ish. I had a large hiatal hernia that was repaired so between that and the bypass it took almost the full 4 hours. I barely remember recovery. I heard them talking about putting a catheter in but I didn't feel it. (Side note: During this process I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Never any symptoms. I hate the mask and haven't really slept well since I got it. I usually use the full mask but the nose mask just seemed easier to take. I always feel like I can't catch my breath if I open my mouth with the nose mask on. Hospital insisted I bring it). So apparently I felt like I couldn't catch a good breath (gas pushing against my diaphragm.) Then I heard my husband telling them to take the cpap off (which they had hooked up with oxygen somehow) and that was much much better. By the time I got to my room it was after 8 p.m. Thank\fully they let my husband and son wait so they could see I was ok. My mouth was horribly dry. I was able to take in some water fairly easily. They gave me pain meds in my IV, but I hardly got any sleep. I'd fall asleep, wake up and it was 15 minutes later. Longest night EVER!!! Plus when I was sleeping, they'd come in for vitals. I kept telling them I needed to walk (because I read that in the instructions a million times). I finally got up and walked around the room a little around 2 a.m. (?) Tuesday Day 2: In the morning with the shift change, things started to move along. I got some broth for breakfast and some jello and water. I was able to sip pretty easily. Actually I had to remind myself not to just gulp. My husband showed up and we walked a bunch of times. I was really paranoid about not walking. I also had a drain and the catheter. I talked to the day nurse and she removed the catheter, which made me feel better. Doc showed up and said she'd discharge me. They removed the drain (not bad but not a ton of fun - more discomfort than pain). I went home, took some pain meds and slept for a few hours. Just really tired all day. Sleeping was hard. I'm not a back sleeper. Most pain when getting in and out of bed. Wednesday Day 3: Had jello for breakfast. Again..pain mostly when moving. (up and down from sitting or laying in bed) and coughing. As expected. Took more oxy and slept. I'm not 100% sure it helps with pain but it does help me sleep. I got some dissolvable Tylenol. Kind of like pixie sticks. So that helps. I was taking them in between. Thursday Day 4: Kind of a rough night last night. Fell asleep but woke up a few hours later uncomfortable. shoulders hurt and I was making myself paranoid about everything. So I dozed for a while longer, thought about ordering a binder off Amazon and how long it would take to get here. I had two "wicks" in one of my incisions that I was allowed to remove today. I was also able to take a shower (it was 48 hours after surgery but since my surgery was so late I just waited until this morning). That made a huge difference. I'm on to full protein today instead of clear so that's something! I have to figure out the sleep thing still. Not sure I can do anything about the pain when sitting/standing. Hope this helps someone a little.

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

Hi everyone! New here and I had my bypass yesterday (8/11). Everything is ok. It hurts and I’ve had nothing but ice chips. The worst thing so far was when the IV fluids caused my forearm to retain fluid so bad it was hard to the touch. I’ve walked around my room a bit. I hope everyone still waiting and/or just had theirs is doing good! Tonya
  7. Over the years, we have had to get to know and visit various doctors with different complaints. At the dentist, patients with any discomfort in the oral cavity are usually referred to the leading cause in the occurrence of gum disease is "poor dental hygiene" as the people from https://thehealthysmile.net/, problems with the gums manifest themselves differently in each of the stages of their evolution. In the initial stages, gum diseases can be treated entirely. And that I don't think they come from gastric bypass, but they're not correctly cared for.
  8. Are there many people that have had revisions? I have a sleeve, and it's being revised to a bypass, at the same time as hernia repair, on August 26th. Very nervous! Two surgeons and up to 7 hours for surgery. Sent from my KB2007 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Support buddies?

Hi there! I would be interested in being your buddy. I had gastric bypass in May 2021. I have been doing well, but would love some accountability from others going through the same thing
  11. Hi, I had gastric bypass in November of 2020. I'm having a hard time finding support buddies. Would anyone be interested in being my buddy? Hw-312 Sw- 274 Gw- 175 Cw-157

    Revision for regain

I had revision due to weight gain a few months ago. I went from a sleeve to bypass. It was covered by my insurance but I still had to go through all the normal hoops to get to it. By the way it’s going very well and I’m happy I’ve done it

    Re-sleeved

I'm not sure re-sleeved is actually a thing. I've never heard of it. I've heard of having your sleeve revised to an RNY, but not a re-sleeve as in taking your existing sleeve and making it smaller. I honestly can't see that the benefit from that would outweigh the risks involved in the surgery. The original surgeon already cut out what s/he considered the disposable portion of the stomach.
  15. RNY revision to duodenal switch. I'm a little nervous. I've started this journey in March so I'm ready. I hope to post updates as time goes on. I know God is with me and i feel very positive that this time i will make it to goal weight and keep it off. When i had my original bypass almost 15 yrs. ago, i didn't have as much guidance or knowledge that i do now. Much has changed over the years and I'm so ready. Is anyone else having your revision tomorrow or very soon. I'm here for anyone who wants to chat or vent or contemplating getting a revision done. My best to all of you. God Bless!
  16. Hi ChocoSnowBunny, First, so sorry to hear you had cancer, I can't even imagine how devastating that can be and praying you never have to go through that again. Second, I'm so glad you went for another opinion. My surgeon told me not to be hard on myself because of gaining weight back because it was the surgery that failed not the other way around. Patients with a very high BMI that have the gastric bypass, will most likely gain half or all weight back because it's not the right surgery but back in 2006, even though the duodenal switch was being done, it wasn't as popular as the gastric bypass. I researched this and my doctor was right. My BMI was 55 back then. Don't be hard on yourself anymore and there is nothing wrong with you. I hope you get your appointment soon. My best to you and I'm excited to hear about your journey also.

Anyone going to UCSD for surgery?

Sharp is an insurance company like blue cross, kaiser, united health, anthem, etc. To OP did you get a new surgeon? How did it go? I saw a surgeon at UCLA and UCI; both sister centers of UCSD. I went with the surgeon at UCI; liked him and his support staff so much better. UCLA was supposed to order some further test as I'm having gastric bypass to repair a failed acid reflux surgery and they never did. The nutritionist I met that day was a complete ding bat and I felt like I knew more about the diet than she did (acid reflux recovery is much the same). My surgeon's staff is amazing; they answers any and all questions as soon as I send an email or leave a message; even doing a phone appointment from home to accommodate my schedule. My husband, daughter and grandson see hemophilia and genetics doctors at UCSD and they are wonderful, so I think it might be that department at UCLA. Hopefully you have found a surgeon you are happy with and on your way to or already had your surgery.

How long will I be off of work?

If anything good came from COVID it’s working from home. Are you able to take off a week or two and then work from home or work part time? I was totally fine after a couple of days. Of course I wasn’t allowed to lift anything but getting up and down didn’t bother me. I was just tired a lot. Took naps. I think I would ask if it’s okay to return sooner and start out part time if you feel up to it or if working from home is an option. I just realized your doing bypass. I did sleeve but I believe the recovery is the same for the most part.

They do the gastric sleeve and bypass on teens, I wouldn’t think it would be an issue finding someone to do it.

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

I had bypass on Aug 2nd. Doing pretty well. The hardest part is getting in protein. I did fine with shakes before the surgery and now they make me want to throw up after the first drink. I’m using protein powder in Gatorade zero and that’s working OK. I had a few bites of instant mashed potatoes yesterday and it was like heaven. Lol

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

I am the 16th having bypass. I’m looking for friends to connect with for support along this journey
  22. Hello everybody. I had a mini gastric bypass probably 20 years ago. I think I lost 50 pounds to 60 pounds over the course of a year. However, I started to regain weight and my diabetes returned for no real reason. However, I’ve been on Ozempic for my diabetes and I have lost significant weight. Probably 50 pounds I weigh 190. originally 270. 230 when I started Ozempic Does anybody else have similar Results if they are on a semaglutide and bypass surgery?
  23. Update for my August revision: I had my revision earlier this month and although it feels the same as VSG physically, it is different in that I am just not hungry at all. After 1 oz of unsweetened applesauce for dinner last night, I just didn't want another bite. Some people got that with their VSG, I never did. It's hard to eat if one has zero appetite. This week my average calories was 296. I have no idea what my goal is for this stage. My surgery water weight gain is finally coming off then I can see where my weight is at but at 296 average a day, I know I lost quite a bit. Luckily, so far, it's been a pretty easy recovery. I do not have any nausea, and have not vomited. I do have off and on diarrhea. I took an Equate equivalent of Imodium, that fixed it. I still have a stitch feeling on the left side though, maybe due to CO2 still in there. I drink with no problem but I still try to sip slowly because if I do drink fast, I just know I will get nauseated. I've slept better than ever because no Gerd. I have good energy due to good sleep. Of course, I'm always worried about future complications though since it is a more serious operation compared to my sleeve.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

There is a thread on the bypass board about this I was just reading. Happening to several people. Sorry to hear it. Hang in there.
  25. Thank you for your response. This is how I approached him. I asked him if there was one thing I could change about him with a magic wand and it would change instantly what would it be? He could’ve answered with any response. His answer was… “I would like to change how I am physically and I want to change the bad habits that got me this way” I was able to get him to see his problem without pointing it out to him It was then that I brought up all the options that were available to him to help him lose weight from diet and exercise to medication to surgery. It’s just me and him together. I am willing to do the work that he’s going to need to help him be a success with his surgery. I had mini gastric bypass 20 years ago. I know what patient go through and I warned him that the psychological part is going to be the hardest part for him. Anyway, thank you for your reply
