  1. what ever calories you consume in a day, if you burn what you consumed , and more you will lose weight. if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight. I'm not exactly sure if that's exactly correct for gastric bypass surgery like i had. I'm a newbee
  2. wow that's great i don't even think mini bypass was an option for me . i initially wanted the sleeve , but my insurance only covered gastric bypass 100% was the mini out of pocket? sometimes i get depressed thinking mine can not be reversed, not that i want to reverse it, its a mind game i play with myself i guess. plus going through the surgery and diet and everything on top of trying to recover my natural testosterone is tough mentally i start thinking i cant eat, i cant drink alcohol, I have no sex drive , but I'm down 50 lbs looking good. its a crazy mind game, I'm mentally tough ill be fine.
  3. awesome thanks for the advice, i get what your saying. My surgeon is very strict and old school and very cut and dry, but a great surgeon, i can ask someone on his team. my surgeon doesn't believe in lifting weights ever only walking for the rest of your life he told me. and my dietician said yes, you can eventually lift weights again. my surgeon is just strict too strict. men with low testosterone, even if they feel great now if they ever tried trt they would be shocked at how amazing it is. obviously before they had gastric bypass surgery its great. thanks
  4. Sorry for the long post above lol thanks for your response , in a nutshell I'm just trying to understand how women are allowed to use clomid to become pregnant after gastric bypass ? and its a NSAID ? and i don't understand why testosterone injections of a intermuscular is not allowed ? Non Steroidal and steroidal ?? so non steroidal and steroidal are both not allowed it doesn't make sense. I guess my question is are there any seasoned gastric bypass patients that have done trt with out staple line ulcers? I see you got MINI gastric bypass ?? i never heard of that ? whats the difference between the 2 ?

    April Surgery Buddy

I was originally going to do the sleeve but I was recently diagnosed with Acid Reflux so my surgeon suggested the bypass to avoid any issues with it down the road. I’m both really excited and nervous! Liquid diet consists of 100 oz. of water, protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles/jello, sugar free beverages and 2 cups of green non starchy veggies each day. Going to try to keep myself as busy as possible, 3 weeks of this sounds so daunting lol I haven’t really stocked up for post surgery yet because I hear your taste can change. I bought genepro flavorless protein power and chewable vitamins to be prepared. Going to try the same things for the week of liquid post op and then for purées I’ll Introduce a new food at a time to see how I do. Hoping I can do Greek yogurt, ricotta bake, tuna salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese, cream of chicken soup. So far I’m liking the premier protein shakes!
  6. I quit Testosterone Replacement Therapy, after 2 years on it. I was not on steroids !!!! Its testosterone replacement therapy, it makes a man at 40 years old, feel great, high sex drive, etc.. It is not pills and 5 different steroids going to you stomach. Its one low dosage intermuscular injection per week. I do not drink alcohol, or smoke nicotine. I quit cold turkey, ["weaned off, TRT with very low dosage weekly shot"], 5 weeks before my successfully , gastric bypass surgery , I am still currently off TRT probably forever. I am 40 years old, ex powerlifter. I am currently 6'3" 299 lbs , i lost 48 lbs as of today in 3 weeks. I only choose gastric bypass surgery because my insurance covered it 100%, i knew it was not reversible, going in. I was told I could continue TRT for life 4 weeks after post op. but now I read No NSAIDS and no Steroids , and they are to opposite things ???? because they can? cause ulcers in the new smaller stomach, and around the staple line. That being, said I am prepared to quit TRT forever !!! But I don't understand why ? It makes no sense. I know for a fact my natural testosterone will come back in a few months, being off TRT, I am not worried about that. *****These are some things that I cant understand and it makes no sense to me , during 4 week post operation. ******* NSAIDS is an appreciation for "NONSTEROIDAL anti-inflammatory drugs" but then it says you CANNOT take Steroids' either ????? Can someone please explain to me how that makes sense ? One is NON STEROIDAL and one is STEROIDALl ?????? Now on to the Clomid brand name drug name is clomiphene , it can be taken by men or women, i have read many posts about women using Clomid post operation to get pregnant !!! there doctors said it was fine but , as I did further research Clomid is a NSAID !!!!????? how does that make sense ??? Clomid taken by men post cycle therapy off TRT will help a man boost testosterone 200% i have done it before in the past it works bringing back natural testosterone levels. The Clomid comes in crushable form pills and liquid too, obviously because , after gastric bypass surgery, your body does not absorb medication like it did before. This is a serious post for people who know what they are talking about please respond with personal stories or any knowledge or insight that you have would be appreciated thank you.
  7. I received my 1st Covid 19 Moderna vaccine a few weeks before my Gastric Bypass Surgery, my 2nd shot was scheduled for the day before my gastric bypass surgery, so i asked my surgeon and it was a new question he never encountered yet. I told him I am not risking the horrible flu like side affects , because if i showed up and the hospital with a fever and flu like symptoms they would put my surgery on delay. So I cancelled my 2nd shot until a later date, weeks after post op. It was not worth the risk. I personal know people who could not get out of bed for a week after the 2nd Covid 19 shot.

    Stomach Stapling from 1982!

I had the stomach stapling in 1984. It was the Vertically Banded Gastroplasty. On the 15th of February I had it revised to a Gastric Bypass and I am doing splendidly. I never had any symptoms like you describe but I did gain my weight back after the 1984 proceedure. The good thing about the Bypass is it is harder to gain weight back. My surgeon was Dr. Stephen Boyce in Knoxville TN. He was the only surgeon in the state I could find who would tackle my revision. No one else wanted to touch me. I highly recommend him. I'm sure you could fine someone to do a revision for you but for some reason the old surgeries seem to cause most surgeons to shy away. Good luck.
  13. Hi everyone, I had a gastric bypass on March 1st and I have been struggling. I have Noticed that any dairy products I try, my body rejects them. I usually vomit and only the dairy that's all. has anyone experience this?

    Surgery Date 4/6

@Rosie_flipswe are almost surgery sisters! I'm feeling a bit nervous, but not terribly. Pre op is liquids for 2 weeks before surgery. What procedure are you having? I'm having bypass. Good luck!
  15. I’ve lost 33 pounds in my first two months lost bypass. I’m pretty happy with this although for some reason I thought it would be faster. The doctor said it’s really going to slow down - I didn’t realize this. Any thoughts or comments? I have 65 pounds to go!
  16. I went in for my 2 month check up. I lost 33 pounds from a surgery weight of 256. They hope that by my 6 month appointment I will be down to 190. I said, well let’s talk about my goal weight. They said 190 is where the surgery (bypass) will take me and from there out I will need to vigorously exercise to get down to 160 (I’m 5’6”/female). I was shocked. I can’t commit to vigorous exercise for the rest of my life. I’m walking about 3-3.5 hours a week. Isn’t that good enough?

    Covid Vaccine

I had COVID in November. I received the first and second doses of the Moderna vaccine in January and February, respectively. Both times I had a sore arm, low grade fever, body aches, and headache, with symptoms being slightly worse with the second dose. The symptoms lasted less than 24 hours and therefore, vaccination was a much better experience than having COVID. 😬
  18. Hey everyone i finally got my surgery date on 04/29. I have to do pre admission test on 04/05. Do a virtual pre op nutrition class on 04/08. On 04/14 physical and other tests. Last on 04/20 sign consents. Im so excited. I think about the good aspects of gastric bypass to keep me focused.

    "Head Hunger"

This thread just goes to show how different each individual and their experience is. I was always hungry before the op (actual hunger). I also found when eating that it took me at least 50 minutes to register the food I'd eaten and feel full. It's part of the reason I gained so much weight! I felt starving hungry all the time when on the 2 week pre-op 800 calorie diet. But straight away after the bypass I did not feel hunger at all. The nutritionist had said this would happen and I just didn't believe her! I still don't feel hunger (that gnawing feeling in your stomach where you'd wolf down anything), but I do feel what I know is head hunger. It's easy enough to tell the difference I've found. If I feel "hungry" but I don't fancy a nice bowl of spinach & pea soup, it's head hunger. As for the calorie need, again I think that's very individual. I have no idea how people survive long term on 1000 calories per day (though my sister did for decades when anorexic), and I haven't got to maintenance yet so don't know what my actual basal metabolic rate will be to maintain, but before the op, in my periods of yo yo dieting, I could always lose weight easily when taking in 1500-1600 calories: more than the bmr tables suggest for my sex, age, weight etc. My personal opinion is that nobody gets to the place of needing wls by having a healthy relationship with food. We all have our own individual & different triggers for eating and it's good to be tolerant of each other.
  20. So, I had my surgery October 15, 2020 and weighed 249 on surgery day. May of 2020 the doctor said I was 259. Anyway, Today I weighed at 201. I am happy about this but I feel like it’s not enough. In January I had my 3 month appointment and weighed 208. My doctor said that was too much weight loss....I was working out 45 minutes a day to make sure I maintained a calorie deficit. They told me the surgery is the tool and to let it work. Well, to prove them I was doing what I know would work for me I haven’t done any workouts except walking. No weights, no spin classes etc... and since that January appt I have only lost 7 pounds. I am super frustrated!! I’m aware that the surgery is a tool but I wasn’t always fat. An injury and two surgeries in 3 years for it plus ending up with secondary adrenal insufficiency in 2016 and on prednisone for over a year cause my weight gain and nothing I could do would help. Prior to my foot injury I worked out two hours a day 3 days a week and and hour a day on all the other days and off on Sunday. I feel like I should have had the gastric bypass. I was told by my mother in law I would want the bypass but I felt like that was so invasive and the very last step. But now, with all the stalls and especially this last stall and the doctors office telling me the opposite of everything I’ve ever known I feel defeated. I was never what you would call a skinny girl. I have a lot of muscle and a ghetto booty and I’m ok with that but I feel like I will never see 150 or less. And some days I’m so hungry and seems like I never get full even though I clearly am full. Did they cut enough of my stomach out? The doctors office can’t even tell me that. I don’t even want to go back for my 6 month appointment in April.
  21. I am curious as to what it was like to loose weight after pregnancy?? I had my gastric sleeve surgery June 2020 and I am currently planning on trying to get pregnant around November-December...My only concern is what is it like to loose the weight all over again after giving birth????
  22. Hello, I am 5 years out from the sleeve as well, I basically had the same issues with the acid it was waking me up in the night, and almost everything gave me heartburn! I did not experience any pain however. I had a upper gi done and they found I had schatzki ring and Haital hernia. It is circular scar tissue that causes the esophagus to narrow. They were actually surprised that I didn’t have pain, just the terrible heartburn and I also couldn’t gulp water for years, I just thought it was because of the smaller stomach🤷🏼‍♀️ They did another upper gi were they went in and dialated my esophagus. Ever since they did the procedure in September I have been 💯! Before this they were talking about having to convert me to the bypass surgery because of the gerd, which I wasn’t looking forward to. I also went completely low carb/keto type diet to try and relieve some of the gerd, which also helped!
  23. Thank you @jaelzion My family has had me so worried as of late, telling me that I'm going to end up in the hospital like my mother's best friend's daughter (who had the bypass) because of my fast weight loss, that it's not only worrying me, but also upsetting me... I would tell them my weight via text all the time when I'd hit a mile marker, and then once I did, they'd message me saying something like "holy crap, that's a lot of weight." until finally tonight my mother called and was so worried... Mind you, they're all incredibly supportive about the weight surgery, but now they think I'm restricting myself so much, and not eating enough, that I'm going to end up sick. I haven't had to have bloodwork since well before surgery... so perhaps i'll talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment to see when/if I need it... - I will say I have a hard time with these supplement chewables that I'd much rather just get swallows, but I know these are what they want me on... Sad to say, I hate taking anything from a bottle, so even the swallowable ones would probably never get taken either... I need to start remembering to take them.

    I "snuck" having WLS

I actually seem to be on the opposite spectrum of everyone else... My sister had the surgery first (hers was bypass due to medical necessity of throat and stomach issues, mine is elective sleeve) My sister and my mother were the ones who pushed ME into getting the surgery... I didn't want to at first, just because I knew how grueling it was for my sister and I felt too lazy/too scared to live a life where EVERYTHING would change... finally, I sorta gave in to their pushing and said "Fine, I'll do it" and it's been the best decision of my life so far. I finally had my surgery in January of this year... was supposed to be July of 2020, but Covid 😡. I told EVERY person on my Facebook page back in January of 2020 that I was going through with it, and (knock on wood) every person has supported me through it. I'm 2 months into the post surgery, and down 44 lbs from surgery, 70 from January of 2020. - I still have about 100 lbs to go before I hit my goal weight, but the fact that I'm at 265 already has me FLOORED! - And I actually do little "Updates on my Life" on my facebook about every month or so updating all of my family and friends about where I am in my post surgery life. I hate seeing so many people who have had to feel like they've got to hide it due to the stigma that society has created for obese people but frankly - I don't give a damn who knows. - To me, it's definitely not cheating... could I have technically eaten the same thing I am now? - Sure.... would I have without being forced into it by tinier stomach? - No.... The push of being forced into doing something "Against my will" was EXACTLY what I needed to keep me on this path. Even if I went back in time, and told my old self "you 100% want this" I wouldn't believe me.
