Well, what's a lot? And what's a lot left? What surgery did you have? When did you have that surgery? What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? What is your height? Do you know what your BMI is? Are you tracking your caloric intake? Are you tracking your water intake? Is your Caloric Intake lower than your BMI and Caloric burn each day? Are you getting upwards of 128 oz of water? Also, check into Intermittent Fasting. I got stalled out really hard at around 230-240 (I started at 370, lost a bit, gained a bit, then had a revision from band to bypass when I was 310.) and Intermittent Fasting was the white horse I needed to get me through that stall down to my current weight of 209.

There are medical studies about GERD and VSG, but the most recent that I'm aware of showed no correlation or limited correlation. That being said, from experience there are quite a few people on forums like this that complain of GERD after VSG. But it seems to be hit or miss and just because you had or did not have GERD before VSG does not predict whether or not you'll have it. I seem to be constantly battling it. It's not so severe that I'd do anything drastic about it, I just wish I could get off the PPI's (Nexium) because I don't want to be on them for life. I do see quite a few revisions on here from VSG to RNY because of severe GERD. If you have to have a revision, I would say that you will have to go through most of the usual pre and post-op challenges you did with the sleeve and yes, that might include hair loss. Tellogen effluvium is not specific to type of surgery, but more because of the shock to your system. ANY surgery could cause it, even non-bariatric surgery because anesthesia and the healing process disrupts the growth cycle of your hair. Good luck!

Acid reflux
nomorefattypatty replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I do end up revising to the bypass will it help me lose more weight, will I lose my hair again and do I have to go back to eating the post op diet again? Sorry this is a multiple question but I need to know tyvm Sent from my N9560 using BariatricPal mobile app -
there is definitely a risk of GERD with the sleeve surgery. A majority of people DON'T get it, but enough do that you should have been told that that was a potential side effect. And yes - there are people who end up revising to RNY because of it.

I had the sleeve in June 2017, and these last few months the acid in my stomach is backing up into my windpipe and literally burns my esophagus until I can't breathe, I instinctively grabbed my inhaler and recovered but it keeps happening so I have watch anything I eat. They don't warn anyone that this can happen, at least not me. I'm still having to lighten up my food intake a lot, has anyone else had to deal with this? They are in the process of giving me an egd with Bravo, which is a camera and they are probably going to revise to the gastric bypass anyone else experiencing this? Hiya! I didn’t have a band but my original surgery was a plication several years ago. It was still newish where I lived. While it was in place, it was great, but after time the stitches came undone and I had to have the whole thing reversed ( like the whole thing, it was not safe to keep it). After a few years I decided to have a sleeve done. I had the same doc both times and he no longer does the plication. Not fully sure why, but I think he thinks it’s not reliable long term. When I was in hospital for my sleeve however ther was a woman who was operated on the same day as me by the same doc and she had a band to bypass revision.

Revision surgery
chattycat replied to SunnyPeters's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just curious, I’m only 4 months out but this is kinda freaking me out! Can you tell me if there was anything specific that caused the stretching or is this just something that happens over time? No judging just wonder what’s down the road I should watch out for. I didn’t know there was a revision for this? Good luck to everyone 😊 -
Revision surgery
marylynn579 replied to SunnyPeters's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revision went really well! I was inpatient only 1 night. The pain directly afterwards was nearly the same as my original surgery but I feel like I felt normal much quicker! I took pain meds only for the first day I was home and then switched to Tylenol. I really am only taking Tylenol because I’ve had a terrible headache/neck ache/ shoulder ache since coming home. I’ve been told that’s my body metabolizing all the anesthesia and it should be gone within a few more days. My diet is identical to post GB. I forgot how hard it was to get all your water in. If you have a similar issue to what I had... run to the doc, don’t walk! It was totally worth it! I’m down 22lbs from my pre-liquid diet and I’m not even a week post-op. -

Hysterectomy and Bypass Surgery
AngelaE replied to xxtrinaxx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there, I had a full hysterectomy last year Nov, its worst surgery ever. I would not recommend having them together. I had my GS 5 years and recovery was straightforward. I have been suffering from reflux and last year was told to have the revision but told to wait until I used the hysterectomy first as it was such a big operation . You will get hungry
Bryn910 replied to FancyChristine15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Up, so true. I had revision from sleeve to RNY and I feel hungry 6 months post op -
I know that they both have their pros and con. The con that I’m worried about is losing nutrition and having it affect my bones/teeth if I go bypass. I’m worried about failure with the sleeve... it’s like folks that got the lap band- it works initially and so many wind up getting back up to their original weight. I don’t want the option of a revision; my health is too important 😞

When did you start seeing big weight loss?
Matt Z replied to mousecat88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First and foremost, worry about healing first. 8 days out is far too soon to be worrying about how fast you may or may not lose. Also, literally everyone is different. No 2 people, even twins, is going to gain and lose the same way. My loss since revision, has been very steady and consistent. -
I was converted on Monday, 11/5/18; sleeve to bypass due to GERDS. I don't have too much advice because I'm newly revised. I can say everybody experience is different. I woke up with a lot of gas pain. Gas X helped a lot. I was up and walking the same day. The hospital staff managed my pain very well. I still have a little pain on the left side of my stomach. It feels more like a pulled muscle now, than it does pain. ScorpioC_RnY

You may need to contact your insurance provider and ask what are their requirements for revision surgery. My doctor thought we would have a lot of issues getting approved but, we didn't. The process was quick and easy with approval on first try. Mr doctor just knew we would have to challenge the insurance company. We all was surprise when they approved me and we didn't have to put up a fight. They approved with the reason stating that the surgery was medically necessary. ScorpioC_RnY

Thank you for your responses! I don’t have reflux issues; but I completely forgot to add that in my post (sorry!) And with the revision- the fact that that’s an option scares me. I just know myself, and I’m really nervous I’ll dongreat the first couple of years and then it’ll go to waste. The bypass worries me with the possibility of teeth issues. It’s just something I don’t know if I could deal with

The age old question...
johnsons13 replied to ZGal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a friend that had to have a revision because of reflux the same day I had my sleeve. We both can still technically eat all those bad habit foods. I am 6 months post op and yes, it is only a tool. From what I hear from my friend of myself, those foods go either way with either surgery. Some people get sick if they eat bad things and like me and my friend with 2 different surgeries, we can chomp down on all those bad for you foods. I was under the impression that you still remove some of your stomach with bypass they just also re-route things in there. I have had issues with reflux in my past, especially during pregnancies, but so far *knock on wood* I've only had an issue a few times. -
I need HELP!!! Will my lapband work again???
LosingitLondon replied to IvyMay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the band fitted 8 years ago, never lost weight with it. I have nothing in it now and still struggle to eat meat, vegetables and fruit with it. And eating out is so stressful as I often bring stuff up. Oh and my port often aches. Revision to a bypass hopefully at the end of this month/ beginning of December. I CANT WAIT TO GET THIS THING OUT! -
Regrets???
Vegan_Bariatric replied to Vegan_Bariatric's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@KimTriesRNY I am afraid I won't be as successful and do not want to have to have a revision surgery later. I have a sugar addiction and do not know that the sleeve will be help me with that.... I have reached out to my surgeon and will hopefully get to speak with him soon about it.
