Recommendations for Gastric Bypass Surgery
frust8 replied to Anks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If I were wanting to do this more economically I would consider Bariatric Pal MX and. Dr Illian. Although there are doctors in Texas, Louisiana, Michigan and Florida that are more budget-friendly, Alex Brecher will be having his revision to Mini Bypass at Bariatric PalMx, and it isn't because of economic issues because he could afford any US or Canadian surgeon. He knows the staff there and trusts them with his own health. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -

Band Slipped..having surgery Monday...recovery time?
blessedbyfour replied to blessedbyfour's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks for your post...I had mine on monday. It was an easy fix i guess..not much scar tissue so he was able to reposition in and stitch again.. I actually flew 48 hours after the surgery for a business meeting in NYC (I live in CA)...fly home tomorrow.... I am hungry! sucks to start over again on liquids..I have lost 60 lbs so far and haev 20 more to go. im worried that I wont lose with the new revision. I know stupid but I am scared ..i dont want to gain. how is it going with you now that you have the new band? -
Tanya, My port is all topsy turvy. Not really flipped but definitely impossible to access in the normal office visit. I have to get flouro everytime and the doctor sees no reason to do port revision surgery because of it at this point. I actually am happy I get the flouro everytime. I get to see the position of everything and that it is still all fine and that makes me feel more secure. Let us know how the next visit goes. Teresa

Hi, I've had my band for almost 4 years. I lost about 50 lbs total and I have gained back 30 of that. I got pregnant 6 months after my band and did fine throughout my pregnancy. I even breastfeed my son for a year afterward. I really think that breastfeeding boosted my weight loss. I had some problems and my band slipped and I have had nothing but trouble ever since. I go for a fill and its too much and i have to get it unfilled and gain weight. I'm seriously thinking about getting a revision to the sleeve. Any pointers? I feel like such a loser, but I so tired of being overweight. I feel like this is my best option. I really am at a point that I hate my band.

I'm so sorry! I thought there was a separate forum for revision from lap band to sleeve. There isn't one now. You could go to the Forum Tab/All Surgery Forums and put "revision" as a search term. I did find this: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/310635-band-to-sleeve-revision/ I personally chose the sleeve because I had read about the "stuck" feeling people get and a higher complication rate with the band. Also, the sleeve surgery removes the side of the stomach that produces the hormone that makes you hungry. I read that it feels more natural. Today I found this: https://spring.asmbs.org/courses/advanced-bariatric-life-support-fundamentals-of-bariatric-surgery/ One of the seminars: Is There Still A Role for the Lap-Band? Many people have had the Lap Band and it works fine for them. It's a personal decision.

Lap band conversion to ?
hubbark1 replied to nurseforlapband's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@Ligaleagle86 how has your weight loss been? I have heard that most revision people loose weight slower than if they would have gone right into bypass. I only lost about 5 pounds a month with the band. I too had horrible reflux. The kind that would wake you up at night gagging. I HATE this band and cannot wait to remove it. At the same time I am scared that the bypass won't work either. -
Lap band conversion to ?
Ligaleagle86 replied to nurseforlapband's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the band to bypass revision 5 weeks ago and so far it has been great! My band had slipped and I was having bad reflux and gained back a bunch of weight. The surgeon removed ALOT of scar tissue from the band and had to remove part of my stomach but I healing well and losing weight on track. I was just told at my last appointment that I am loosing faster than most revision patients. I should have done the bypass in the beginning. Good Luck! -

Band Eroded -now coming out...so depressed
Oregondaisy replied to Iziksmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A sleeve is where they just make you a tiny stomach. After the surgery, there are no fills, and you don't have to worry about restriction. They make you such a small stomach, you just can't eat big portions. They use the part of the stomach that is the least stretchy so it doesn't stretch back out. Go to the bottom of the board, and there is a section for people who are having that surgery now. It's fairly new, but it's gaining in popularity all the time. So many people are losing their bands from complications and having a revision surgery to a sleeve. -
Congratulations on your surgery! It's hard seeing that fluid gain, but I had a revision surgery on Tuesday and I've lost 10 lbs in the last two days. It comes off quickly. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Scared to be a failure...yet again...
SoccerMomma73 replied to hmjdreamingbig's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think we all have those thoughts to some extent. I was a band to bypass revision and oh the mental conversations I had with myself in the days before the bypass. I mean, I failed a band, why will this work???? But it DOES work (and you will be bitchy! Be prepared). You're worried, you're taking this seriously, you're concerned about the future...all good signs that you'll do great! -
How was it a doozy? I am getting my revision in a month and getting more and more nervous. I started liquids today.

I am brand new here...advice, support appreciated

Welcome KMR! I can tell you, as well as many others, that I would not go with the band. This is from my own personal experience. I currently have my band and am in the process of getting a revision to the sleeve. I have had numerous complications and to this day I am in pain constantly. I would recommend that either you self-pay for what you know is right for you or hang in there until BCBS of MA adds it to the approved list of surgeries. As far as insurance goes, I would definitely appeal to them with lots of evidence. You never know what they are going to say. I would look on the internet for appeals specifically geared towards the sleeve. That will help you with your appeal. Feel free to email. I'm more than glad to share my personal experience with my band. Also check out the band to sleeve revisions section tons of good information. Good Luck! Let me know if I can be of any help. QUESTION FOR MY FELLOW DS FAMILY (MYFITNESSPAL)
twotoo replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Im in Utah and looking to have the DS as my revision to my original bypass 16 years ago, who and where did you go if you do not mind me asking -
Okay, I'm supposed to be sleeping, but I am so addicted to you guys. I'm the new erosion on the block, and I have to tell you, as devastating as this is, I got 97.5 pounds out of it. By the time I have my band removed it will probably be at least an even 100 - that's my new goal. lol Anyway - I don't know yet if I will choose to be rebanded. I am waiting for more info on the re-erosion rates. The one response I got wasn't good (she eroded again her second time), and two other posters quote increased percentages - one 50%, the other "4 times likely" which would be 4-12%. I'm going to have to agree with Jessie Ahroni on grads that no one really knows the stats on rebanding. However, the literature from Inamed does state that revisions have a higher percentage of erosion, and I would consider a rebanding a revision. If I knew then what I know now - would I still have done it? ABSOLUTELY!! Will I do it again? At this point, it doesn't look likely. But I will have to wait at least six months before I could be rebanded, if I choose to do so, so we'll see how it goes. I love my band - it did everything I had hoped for. It sucks for me that I have this complication, but I rolled the dice and this is what I got. I'm not angry, or bitter. Sad, devastated, yes. But I knew the risks, and my results have been worth it. I've learned a lot about myself and my eating disorder. Hopefully that'll help me out when I'm back out there on my own. Good luck with your decision!

Sorry to hear that! Let your stomach heal and I bet you will be able to get the bypass. I have heard this a lot for getting a revision from the band to either sleeve or bypass. There is sometimes stomach damage from the band and you just have to let yourself heal. Maybe do weight watchers or something while you are waiting for the bypass. I know you're disappointed but at least you are on the mend now. Big hugs going your way

Glad you were able to get a revision. Good luck in starting over.

I had the revision 7/15/15 from band to bypass and I was so nervous but it melted away as soon as I got into my hospital gown and met my nurses. You'll do great! Let us know how it goes.

Yes I read about someone who had her stomach imaged and it was an improper VSG. Her doctor offered to redo the surgery for her after she sent her a picture of the image. She decided after her husband used Dr. Aceves to use him for the revision instead of the initial surgeon. So I would guess getting the stomach imaged to see if the shape is proper or if it indeed was made incorrectly would be the first step and also it would give another doctor an idea of the ability to have it revised or not.

How long did it take for you to heal?
iamshazza replied to Wendydarling19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was back to work in a week after my band to sleeve revision and also had gallbladder out. Not a whole lot of pain for me either after the first few days. I work in the office 3 days a week and I work at home 2 days. Also desk job. I could've taken more time but didn't really feel Like I needed it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It's a good thing that I moved ahead with the revision. It turned out that my band had slipped and I had some stomach prolapse. Also, I needed an additional hiatal hernia repair. Keep in touch and I'll let you know how recovery goes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
