I take 5,000 mcg per day in one capsule, but there is more in my multi and more in my hair skin and nails vitamin. I hate to say it, but all of this does nothing. I think I just have expensive pee. My hair fell out when I had band surgery and has never recovered when I had revision surgery. I have new hair coming in, but it's still falling out!

Scar Tissue With The Band?! :(
Kirstyn1226 replied to alwayseating2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had my band removed on Thursday, July 19 and will be having VSG done but I was only told that I had to wait until I finished all the requirements of my insurance as I would if I did not have the band at all. For me that involves 12 weekly classes, two bariatrician appointments, one Psych appointment and another appointment with my surgeon after the other requirements are met. I already completed 7 of those classes and my surgeon was guessing that I would be seeing him again for the sleeve in November-ish. I was under for three hours for the removal and, according the my surgeon, the first 30 minutes was removing the band and the last 2 and a half hours was cleaning up scar tissue in preparation for the VSG. Now, I had my band for 9 and a half years so I completely expected a ton of scar tissue. And YMMV. I will be crossing my fingers for you that you don't have to wait a year. I'm going to guess that each surgeon has their own preferences and experiences with doing a revision. -
Scar Tissue With The Band?! :(
SylviaMom replied to alwayseating2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band removed in early June and have to wait until December for my sleeve because I had a band erosion and related scar tissue. At first, I was pretty depressed but know waiting is better than having a leak. Dr. Aceves, my surgeon, will do the revision in one surgery so long as there isn't an erosion or some other complication. It seems the practices vary quiet a bit so if you have the ability speak to a few different surgeons, i highly recommend doing so. Also be sure to ask how many revisions your surgeon has completed as revisions are more complicated than a virgin sleeve. good luck on your journey and hope you can get it done in one surgery! -
Anyone know if the docs or Doc Illan at BariatricPal Mx require a pre op diet if you want them to do a band & plication revision to Gastric bypass??? Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Oh Lord :/ That's my whole reasoning for wanting a revision is that for the life of me I can't loose anything after getting the liquid out I've gained 15lbs and now that I have liquid put back in I can't even loose the 15lbs I gained!! apart from having some minor issues with my bad. Approvals with BCBS Federal
Faytona replied to rln52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a lapband revision. BCBS Fed approved my lapband in 2/2011, port replacement in 3/2013, and lapband removal 11/2013. I just got approved to have the sleeve (surgery scheduled for March 14!!). However, I did have to go through the 3 month supervised diet, psych eval, and all pre-op tests again. I just got my surgery date!! March 14. . Any news, NewLife? Okay, so the "reason" that the sleeve will work - beyond the portion control - is because of the insulin resistance issue going away. I had not heard this, but it makes some sense although I don't understand the reasons that a smaller stomach causes this. I have had fasting blood sugar of just under 100 for many many years - borderline. My A1C was in the pre diabetes range. The first bloodwork post surgery at 3 months showed a tremendous drop - my fastiing blood sugar was more like 77. I thought it was due to my dietary changes only, but I NEVER saw that drop when i was doing weight watchers and lost quite a bit of weight. Maybe there is something about the sleeve that helps with the insulin issue. I guess I would still be skeptical, BUT, what I do know is that for many of us it only takes eating a little bit more then we should to keep the weight on. Maybe the shift in insulin response is enough to help? So, although I am a sleeve advocate, I am not sure about the strategy of planning another revision if it doesn't work. Ask your surgeon, but I thought that each successive WLS increases risk of serious complications. If I didn't believe in the sleeve, I would go straight for the RNY or more like the DS (although THAT is a scary procedure!).

Hello All, I should be the 1st or 2nd week of September. My surgeon's office called me today to let me know that my insurance approved my revision from lapband to RNY. I go in next week for my "results visit," basically just going over pre and post op instructions and getting my official date. Incredibly, even in my excitement/relief, I managed to remember to ask my case manager how far out the surgeon is booked for surgery since he only operates twice a week. She said that they just booked the last two spots for August, so she would mention to the doc to hold me a spot for the 1st week of September. Fingers crossed for September 6th. Happy to be on the train with everyone. -

I’ve been undergoing revision on my 2004 gastric bypass. I’ve noticed that my hair looks and feels thinner. I hadn’t connected it to the revision. Thank you! -
I'm scheduled for a band to VGS revision on October 30, but will also be having my gallbladder removed at the same time. My surgeon (who banded me in 2006) said it will be an outpatient procedure just like my band was. After reading about all the people that went to Mexico for surgery and were in the hospital for several days, I'm wondering about being able to go home the same day. Has anyone else on this board gone home the same day? Any complications from doing so? My doc is right next door to a hospital and I do barium swallows, fills, etc. in his office which is not far from where I live (Dallas metro area). I'm not worried about having a problem and not being near medical help, but just wonder how others handled pain, etc. at home.

Anyone go home same day as surgery?
TexasT replied to TexasT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off the phone with a nurse at my doc's office and had several things clarified. I WILL be staying overnight at the hospital - I'll be admitted as an outpatient, then he will sign for me to stay. I will also have a morphine pump that will last 3 days. He will do a leak test day of surgery and again before I go home. Then I will return a week after surgery for staple removal and follow-up. I also got all the pertinent info regarding quantity of surgeries he's done (sleeves, revisions, etc.). His overall complication rate is 0.04%, which I consider pretty darn good. The info the nurse originally gave me for going home the same day was because she thought I was only having my gall bladder removed. She had no idea I was having a revision. Boy oh Boy - this confusion caused me a lot of mental anguish. But things look good now. The only thing I'm concerned about is having to dish out all my savings if there are complications from the sleeve - but with my guy's complication rate I feel like my chances for success are very good. He's the same one that did my lap band and I've not had a slippage, erosion, or flipped port, etc. so I trust him. Thanks for everyone's input. It really helps to know what your experiences have been for those of us that have yet to go through it. -
Hi! About 12 years ago I had the lap band. I started at about 280 lbs and got down to 200 lbs but now I’m back to about 240 lbs (I should be around 140 lbs). I have terrible reflux, morning bile in my throat, and vomiting multiple times a week. I found a great revision doctor and he has approved me for revision to gastric bypass. I’m going in on 4/23 to make sure my band has slipped so that insurance pays. But regardless (I will self pay at this point- even if I have to sell plasma), I’m having the bypass and I’m so excited. Any one out there that can give me some good advice? What to expect? I appreciate any guidance!! Thank you so much! 💜

Port Revision Surgery
Magnettaj replied to agdunkle's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded on March 22, 2011 and just had my port revision sx done yesterday. They also did my first fill of 6cc. I had to get a live x-ray done before leaving since the Water they gave me to drink wouldn't go down. He ended up taking out 1.5cc. (He stuck the needle right through my bandage but was actually able to access the port this time. That hurt...) Anyway, i felt a rush of cold hit the bottom of my stomach and watched the barium run through the port. So now I have 4.5cc in my band. But I will have to agree with you. I am in sooo much more pain now than I was after the original sx. They gave me liquid pain meds but they don't seem to be helping. I can barely get up from sitting or lying down, and forget about going to the bathroom by myself. Thank goodness for great husbands! I am getting very little sleep as I can't lie on my usual side. I'm wondering how I will survive work tomorrow as I am a pharmacy tech standing and running around for 9 hours. Good luck to you, don't worry, you aren't alone. I'm only 21 so I thought I would have it easy and heal faster/see better results. But I too am one of the lucky 2% that needed a little extra help. I've already lost 34 lbs before my first fill, believe me, we CAN do this!! -
I had a slipped band and a prolapse myself. It was pretty awful -- reflux every night. It hurt to eat or drink anything but ice cream (cold so it numbed me- not sharp, like yogurt). Even drinking Water hurt. They tried removing all the fill and that did not work. I had lots of barium swallows. Finally, I had revision surgery. That was a year and a half ago and I have been afraid to get another fill. That's why I am here now -- as a step toward getting the courage to try again. I need to see if I can get the band to work for me without another prolapse -- otherwise, I need to consider other surgery. I am working toward weight loss after prolapse -- I have gained what I lost back. Mocca

Help! Acid reflux:( debating removal
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to haele520's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm very sorry for your struggles. Let me preface this by saying I am not a doctor. This is strictly based on my own research and experience. Being as you were banded in 2005, that would mean you have the older 4cc band. It's extremely unfortunate but problems such as you're experiencing aren't uncommon with the older 4cc bands. In fact, they're no longer used in the US because of it. We see a lot of people with the 4cc bands getting them removed, replaced with a newer model, or switching to another WLS entirely. It is very unlikely your reflux will improve In fact, I fear it will only worsen as time goes on. I can't tell you what you should do only what I would do in your shoes. If it were me, I'd talk to my surgeon about getting the 4cc band replaced with a newer (bigger one). I would also ask if it's even an option with the ulcers and other damage. If it wasn't an option, I'd probably revise to the Sleeve. Again, just my opinion and what I've learned. Best wishes to you. I truly hope you can work it out for your best interest. -
Help! Acid reflux:( debating removal
grace234 replied to haele520's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am having the exact same problem. He has removed all fluid and they think I might have something called Achalasia - my doctor wants me to consider revision to gastric bypass but I have an insurance policy (different from when I was banded) that is going to give me problems because my BMI is 37 and the only co-morbidity is PCOS which he says they don't really count. And if I have achalasia he said he cannot do any surgery. so I have to see a specialist and go from there. This band has made my life a living hell. -
I have Aetna POS in Texas as well. They will cover my band but will not cover the sleeve as my first WLS only as a revision. They tell me they consider the sleeve experimental. Who did you contact at Aetna? I am scheduled for Mexico on 12/29 and will lose my deposit and 1000.00 worth of plane tickets if I don't go there. I know that as soon as I get it done, Aetna will cover it. That is just going to be my luck. Bill

Bye, Bye! 100 pounds gone for good!
rbott replied to rbott's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Sure Michelle, I don't mind sharing at all! I believe that one of the biggest factors that has made me successful is tracking my food, fluid, and exercise. By doing this I find that if I fall off track I am able to hold myself more accountable for my actions. I exercise a fair amount, generally do at least an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week in addition to an hour to an hour and a half of hot yoga 2-3 times a week. The yoga has really helped me trim and tone not to mention it is a huge stress reducer for me. As far as what I am eating well.... for the most part I try to be good, but everyone has their slip ups right? I avoid pastas, breads, rice, and any other high carb content foods. My carbohydrate intake is generally about 40 grams/day and I try to eat at least 70 grams of protein in a day. I am a stickler for my fluid intake and I consume generally a minimum of 2 liters of water in a day. I avoid eating foods with high sugar content and for the most part stick to sugar free, if that is not an option I will not eat more than 5 grams of sugar in a meal. My average calorie intake is roughly 900-1000 calories a day. I am almost to my revised goal of 140 pounds, I know that to keep up my amount of physical exercise and to maintain 140# I will eventually have to increase my caloric intake which seems right now like it will be a difficult task. I stick to my vitamin regimen as well. I think my greatest challenge is getting past that little voice in my head telling me that I want junk food and that makes me want to eat even when I am not hungry. Also I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old + I work full time so fitting in all of my exercise is a challenge, but I have learned that if I don't I feel awful. Treating yourself is helpful too, get your hair and nails done.....makes me feel like a million bucks every time and it makes me want to try even harder to do the best I can. Good luck! -

Thank you for responding! My bowel movements are daily so that isn't the issue. I've read stalls are common, but I wasn't expecting one only 3 weeks post op! May I ask, you said you checked with your doctor when you had a stall? Then you had a revision? I had a RNY, what more could they revise at that point? I'm sticking with the program..don't really have a choice even if I didn't want too...major surgery done..no going back. 😋 I know its fairly common to experience these stalls, but, it doesn't make it easier its still frustrating!
