    Surgery is tomorrow morning!

Spring water, protein shakes, lowfat/nonfat yogurt, sugar free jello, and I like these Del Monte jarred fruits in the fridge section of the grocery store, they keep well in the fridge, are soft and can be eaten as is or tossed into vanilla yogurt and are pretty tasty: https://www.delmonte.com/fruits/peaches/orchard-selectr-sliced-yellow-cling-peaches-no-sugar-added https://www.delmonte.com/fruits/mandarin-oranges/sunfreshr-mandarin-oranges-extra-light-syrup

    I Got A FILL!

I now have 5cc worth of saline in my band and I am a happy camper! I'm on liquids until tomorrow morning, and I can move to soft foods like yogurt and cream soups. Friday I can start to resume a regular diet again...or at least, as regular as I have been. If you haven't had a fill yet, it's really not that bad. I think I was pretty anxious about it for nothing. She felt around for my port, and when she found it, gave me some lidocaine first via a tiny injection that I didn't even feel. However, because I was pretty sore from overextending myself the other day, it didn't numb me as well as it could have. When the needle for the fill went in, I didn't feel it at first, but then I could tell it was there. It just felt sore, not a sharp pain or anything. I am entirely convinced if my muscle wasn't so sore it would have been absolutely effortless. I can TOTALLY already tell the difference in restriction. My protein shake went down a LOT slower! Heading to the gym tomorrow morning to work out with my trainer. I have hired him for two months, twice a week, to get me in a routine. Best money I ever spent, besides the cost of the band!

    Having a really rough time!!!!

I think we'll all have to go through rough times to break our addition to food. My addiction is the taste. I'm able to (sometimes) separate my hunger into physical hunger (which after the lap band has been painful sometimes if I don't get it taken care of soon) and mouth hunger where something tastes so good I just don't want to stop eating it (after the lap band, that get's painful too). My job seems to be finding that balance between the two. My doctor told me today that my problems with gas (especially in the late afternoon) may be just an adjustment of my body to different natural flora (bugs and such) in my gut. He said to try eating yogurts with acidolphius (sp?) flora in it to repopulate my gut. Anyone else have any suggestions?

    Can Yogurt Be Frozen?

I also freeze yogurt for my kids. They think GoGurt is supposed to be frozen once you get it home - they don't like it 'squishy' = ) However, I have also frozen trix yogurt and it does change the consistency. My kids will still eat it - but not like they would before it was frozen...... I guess it depends on what type of yogurt it is and how hungry you get once you move on to the mushies = ))
  6. Hi all, I purchased a bunch of yogurt cups before surgery. I'm not able to eat them right now and the are going to expire. Can I freeze them or will it make the texture funky?

    Can Yogurt Be Frozen?

I freeze yogurt for my kids to eat as a frozen halthy alternative to ice cream. It is always ok in the frozen state, although i have never thawed it back to normal, I would think it would be ok.. try freezing one tonight and thaw it tomorrow and let me know how it turns out.

    anyone? anyone?

I was banded Nov 2009 and my weight loss is 14. I can eat anything- I go for my 3rd fill this Wed. I called my doc office and the girl said to keep a food log and bring it in for him to review to give me suggestions. At my last visit he told me not to eat yogurt- which I was having for a snack daily. He said it was too much of slider for my band. He stressed protein first and not to eat a meal any larger than a WW meal. I too am hoping to hit that sweet spot soon. Good luck!

    October 07 Exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post-OP Day 13: Rode my bike one hour in the morning. Walked one hour in the evening. Weight loss so far 25 pounds and this includes the 2 week Pre_OP diet. 14 days pre-diet + 13 days post-Op = 27 days and 25 pounds. I am drinking 3 Protein shakes per day (plus) and eating mainly, boiled eggs, canned herring, sardines or yellow tuna (all in soybean oil) and yogurt. I am also sipping up to 1 gallon of Water each day. sometimes I put a banana in the Protein Shakes. Protein shakes are mostly prepackaged EAS AdvantEdge 17gram Protein drinks (Choc-Van-Strawberry), but also am using EAS 100% whey Protein powder (23 grams) and Body Fortress 100% Whey Protein (46grams) all from Wal-mart shelves. I mix the powders with 1% regular milk or Soy milk and chipped ice in the blender and it usually makes 2 large glasses per serving. I take 2 centrums, 4 250mcg B12, and extra Calcium (liquid or capsules) I am never really hungry and I have no loss of energy.

What's your favorite go to snacks?

I'm a huge fan of all greek yogurt. I try to watch the sugar and fat content. My fave is plain or vanilla yogurt mixed with fresh or frozen fruits. I have the Chobani Apple and Cinnamon fat free for desert often. I also discovered the Yoplait Greek 100 calorie greek yogurts. They're lower calories and have less sugar than Chobani and taste pretty darn good. Beef jerky is also a snack I enjoy often. My personal fave is Perky Jerky.
  12. What are you all eating one plus year out and how many calories are you consuming. i had my year evaluation (I went from 330 pounds to 180 pounds) and she was pleased with my progress (apparently I surpassed the others in my group with excess weight lost which is a great feeling!) however she seemed a bit upset over the quantities of food I am eating. she said I should be getting 1,700 calories a day. I just don’t see how that’s possible! My restriction is still very much a thing and I just can’t eat that much. I compromised by telling her I would eat breakfast (I usually just have a nonfat coffee and that fills me up), she told me to introduce that back in and track my calories. So… I did. you guys I am only getting 1,000 calories in a day! And that was WITH breakfast. I have found that I am finally getting hungry on occasion (I haven’t felt hunger for a year now ) and my volume has increased slightly, but nowhere near enough to fit in 1700 calories! My protein count is fine. I got 80 grams of protein today (I have some lingering medical issues so my protein count has to be lower than the norm). I don’t eat junk. This is kind of an average day: scrambled egg, coffee, P3 pack, yogurt (no sugar Greek yogurt), chicken/fish with some veggies (but I usually can’t eat more than a bite or two of veggies) and I might have a few nuts or half a cheese stick for snacks. It will only become more difficult because I am getting Invisalign and my desire to snack is going to be zero because I don’t want to brush my teeth a zillion times a day. i need good ideas on getting my calories up!

    Mushy Foods

For mushies, I lived on cottage cheese, pimento cheese, refried beans, black bean soup, applesauce, yogurt, broth based soups, pudding, even snuck in some canned chicken and tuna with lots of light mayo to moisten it a bit. Someone mentioned they liked corned beef hash in the can, so I tried it. It was pretty good. Kind of high in fat and sodium though. I bought one can, ate a bit of it, and gave the rest to my dog. He went nuts - he loved it!!!

    Magic bullet

My 2 cents...I like foam (I like xtra foam on my latte's too). I didn't know it caused more gas...that's something to consider, but I don't have that issue so I guess I never noticed. PROS: Quick & Easy for Protein Shakes Good for quick sauces/dressings LOVE that it has a little handle on it and you get the sippy or snap lids for portability (i.e., running out the door--story of my life) I can whip up 2 Protein shakes in the a.m., pour half into one of the smaller cups, lid it and save it for snack (with a quick shake to revive) and drink the other now Rinse and store blades--easy clean-up. Very little counter space for something I use daily AND portable for overnighters CONS: Does not do well with "foods" as Supermom stated Like SuperMom notes, it's not great for food and It is not suitable for going from solid to purees...but because it is so portable and because it takes up so little space for something I use SO frequently (as does my football/weightlifting son---protein shakes are not new to my house!) it was a great "investment" that has paid off for me. It does great with yogurt consistancy foods. So when I make my own dill yogurt sauce (or others) it is perfect. I use it constantly and leave it on my counter. Susan

    Magic bullet

I love and use my magic bullet all the time. Chicken salad--if you're just chopping the chicken, yes, it is a pain to stir and get it all chopped. Just add your mayo or Greek yogurt or whatever in the bottom, then put your chicken and green onion, and it turns into a paste really easily. I use it for protein shakes, too, but I don't over-process--I like mine with ice to make them like a milkshake, so maybe that's why I don't get a lot of foaming. Again, milk first, then protein powder, then whatever flavorings, then ice. I found that order of ingredients does make a difference in the processing efficiency. I do love that I just toss the cups in the dishwasher and still have others ready to use.

    Eating is so hard!

I wondered the same thing early on. It definitely gets easier. I was sleeved on Oct 13. I felt like I had improvements with how things felt in my tummy between weeks 3-4 and 6-7. From week 3 to 4, I noticed that soft foods, like yogurt, didn't feel so yucky. From week 6 to 7, Water suddenly tasted refreshing to drink (prior to that, water made me feel like gagging). ...hang in there.
  17. Please tell me how you are getting/got in your protein and fluids at 2 wks postop. Yesterday, I was to start purees but that's turning me off. I tried some tuna - gagged. I tried an egg - after 2 bites I was full. Cottage cheese did not sit well. In the grocery store, just looking at some foods is enough to make me gag. It seemed so easy the first week. The second week was a lot harder, and now the start of the third week, I feel like I'm in trouble. All the protein drinks are turning me off bad. Water still goes down the best. Food fills me up so fast after just a couple teaspoons, how can that even count for a good amount of protein? I would really like to get more protein from food so I don't have to drink those shakes. This morning I tried some greek yogurt which was 12 gm prot for 5.3 oz. I thought great, I'll eat this and have 12 gm done. I ate half and was full. So that was only 6 gm. So I tried to supplement with a protein drink, got in approx half for 11.5 gm. Total of 17.5. My goal for the day is 70 gm protein. I will sip water now, and will have to force other things on myself the rest of the day. Also, anything that sounds good, like tomato soup which I really enjoyed that 1/4 cup for a couple days last week, now it can gag me to think about. And that's the way it's been going - things that I do like for a couple days suddenly are gross. Any tips, suggestions, advice for me? Thanks

    Not feeling full

Whoa! Did the doc tell you it was ok to eat a cup and a half of food?? Your stomach is swollen and numb so don't look for that full feeling just yet especially with things like yogurt. You should be measuring and eating only a certain amount the first weeks. For most of us it's 1/4 cup at a time.. You are a man? Your stomach is probably naturally bigger than mine but 1 1/2 cups is to much.
  19. My surgery is at 7:30 am on Tuesday, October 17th. I have been on a liquid diet since Friday and have been miserable since. I can have sf jello, sf popsicles, sf powerade, broth and water- I drink approximately 80+ oz/day. I have been getting dizzy throughout the day and it makes work almost unbearable. Should I get a low fat greek yogurt or something of substance?? I feel like I'm going to pass out at times.

    April 6 sleeve!

I had surgery done on 4/14/15 it has been 6 days I want to eat everything, i feel like I'm starving. Day 1 I had only water and ice chips day 2,3&4 I had water and protein shakes, day 5 I had a little bit of Greek yogurt with some chocolate protein powder mixed in it (approx. 2oz) and some chicken broth, not at the same time, but during the day, day 6 I had 1 apple sauce no sugar added organic. 3.5 oz. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have these things in my first week but I feel great. Keeping all fluid down and incisions are healing good. My information pack I got to refer to after surgery says I can have things that can slip through a funnel. I'm hoping what I'm doing is ok. I've tried calling my Drs office to ask but the time difference between where I had the procedure and where I live is a problem. ( I went to another state to do my sleeve). Someone please let me know if what I'm doing is DANGEROUS.

    How did you know?

I have been "heavy" my entire life, but I started getting morbidly obese about 15 yeas ago after a back injury. I had two back surgeries, first one 8/2007, second one in 11/2009. I also broke my left ankle (for the 5th time) in 10/2010. After a major foot surgery in 3/2011, I decided to go for the sleeve. About a month out from surgery, I got pregnant and abandoned my WLS plans for the time being. I had the baby (best thing ever!!) and got back on track for surgery in October of 2013. I then caught the NORO virus from my kid and spend two days sitting on the toilet and vomiting into the waste basket. That freaked me out so much that I backed off from the surgery. My back and foot pain was getting worse (one of the five screws in my foot/ankle had broken and wow, the pain has been intense!) and all the doctors were telling me it would never get better until I lost about 100 lbs. at least. At the time, I was about 330. The doctor for my foot told me that he would have to take out all the pins, put in thicker ones, and reinforce the area with steal plates. This did not sound like it was going to help get me out of pain. So, back to the bariatric surgeon. I started with this again in February of 2015. My doc put me on a diet pill to help with appetite suppression, and I lost almost 50 lbs. from March 2015 - June 2015. It took a while to get all of the insurance requirements met, but it was finally approved, and my surgery was on July1. I am 23 days out of surgery, just started my 4th week post-op, and while it has not been easy, I would not go back. I had the sleeve because I did not want to have as many issues with malnutrition as I have heard can happen with bypass. I know that I will eventually get to eat real food again, just not nearly as much, and I am so happy with the weight loss. The biggest issue I am having is getting my Protein. I am a vegetarian and the idea of drinking milk repulses me. I am not a vegan, will eat cheese and yogurt, it is just milk that grosses me out. Soy milk was not something I wanted to try, but I find the light vanilla and light chocolate is palatable. I am still experimenting with different protein supplements, but I feel confident I will eventually find one that I can get down. I have found a few suggestion on this forum that give me hope. :-) I hope this info has helped. Good luck!

any tips for meals or how to add more protein?

My go to lunch now is tuna salad made with Greek yogurt, boiled egg, low-fat cheese then eat a scoop of it on a bed of cottage cheese. Every ingredient is protein, except for mustard and dill relish. Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App

    Help, I am Hungry!!

I do still buy certain thing’s although not often. Some people do find them handy for work lunches. The creamy chicken pasta is pretty good. I actually had it on purée just cooked very soft since it’s easy to chew to purée. I couldn’t tolerate normal purée foods. . I like their protein pancakes. I did try some of their protein chips. As I’m supposed to be doing more normal foods. I had half a small bag with two soft boiled eggs. As you advance you can get more creative with your work lunches. in the early stages try things like chia pudding I bought their protein mashed potato mix and I make that sometimes with a small veggie burger. Ie. Boca turky burger 2.5 oz 70 calories, 11 grams protein. I liked it with dr Praeger’s black bean chipotle pollock burger, 2.5 oz 90 calories 10 grams protein but my store stopped selling them. It took me longer than most to eat normal foods. I’m still eating fairly soft foods. my head is tired. But I’m sure there’s lots of ideas. Some people prepare their own meals fresh. I don’t have energy for it. I do a mix of buying a few things from BariatricPal, I buy things like veggie burgers, veggie sausage, if they come in small portion right calories, Egglands Best eggs, plain Greek yogurt or TwoGood yogurt, I mix PEScience select protein powder in yogurt. That helped a lot during purée. As did good culture cottage cheese cups. I admit I treat myself to a little land o lakes whipped topping (sugar free) on my yogurt. and evening coffee. BariatricPal does have protein coffee with vitamins and protein hot cocoa with marshmallows that’s pretty decent. i love using ripple milk unsweetened plain , they also have unsweetened vanilla. It’s plant protein. sorry for rambling.

    Be Prepared!

:hungry: I try to keep applesauce, string cheese, yogurt, soup-at-hand and the 4oz cans of mixed fruit at work at all times. All of them are at least 120 calories or less. I used to keep cans of tuna but tuna is not my friend anymore....it gets stuck no matter how much mayo you put on it or how much I chew it! :phanvan Ticks me off too! I love tuna! Every now and then I will have a small bag of Cheeto's but I make them last for awhile and follow it later with a bottle of water to get some of the sodium washed away! And I keep popsicles on hand at home at all times...that and Jell-o w/Cool Whip. Yum!
