  1. SO EXCITED!!! I GOT MY SURGEON'S REFERRAL!!! I'M ALL SCHEDULED FOR THE SEMINAR IN TWO WEEKS! The journey continues!!! Thatgurl!
  2. I have my individual appointment with the clinic in two weeks, am excited and anxious. I'm wondering if anyone on this site has been sleeved in Halifax and has any advice for me. I know there have been a lot of VSG's done here in Halifax, but I guess they haven't been fortunate enough to find this web site. That's too bad because I've sure read some wonderful information on this site.

    somebody is a lier!

I have done a year of the diet with my main doctor, i got 10 years of medical history, i did the phys evel, I wrote the letter stating why and what all i have done to lose weight. i got the letter from the doctor saying it is medical ness. Surgery office said they sent them over 3 weeks ago...insurance co still saying they dont have them.. so going today to get copies of EVERYTHING and sending them to the insurance co myself.....
  4. I have Aetna HMO insurance and they do cover lap band surgery. The selection criteria says "For adults age 18 years or older, presence of severe obesity that has persisted for at least the last 2 years (24 months), documented in contemporaneous clinical records, defined as any of the following: Body mass index (BMI) (see appendix) exceeding 40; or And here lies the problem for me. Though I have been overweight pretty much all my adult life...I very rarely go to doctors. I had been to the obgyn in January of 2009 weighing in at 325, and then not back in a doctors office until February 2011 weighing in at 375, and then again last week at 363. Do you think they will count the OBGYN's weight documentation even though it's older than 2 years? I could go back farther than that and get my old obgyn's docs from 2006 when I was pregnant with my son, and also overweight (though closer to 275 then). I've finally made the decision to get the lap band, I'm attending a seminar on June 7th and I'm really looking forward to this. I meet (and beat) he BMI requirement (at nearly 50bmi) but I'm worried because I've not really been an active doctor frequenter. I would really hate to have to wait 2 years since February to 2013 to get my weight records! Too bad pictures of my fat ass from those time periods couldn't suffice : / Anybody have any idea? This is also my first posting here, been lurking for a few months. I'm 6' tall, 363lbs, size 26/28, 29 years old momma of 1. Only other comobidities that I have is high blood pressure, high cholesterol...but the doc has recommended weight loss and that's it. No sleep apnea, that I know of! Abbie
  5. I am getting banded in 2 weeks, and the only thing I'm nervous about is that I might have to give up beer. I haven't really talked it over with the doctor yet. Are there any beer lovers out there who have some insight?

    AETNA INSURANCE

I just got approved from Aetna this week... My surgeon originally submitted me on May 21st, on May 23rd Aetna kicked it back saying it was missing stuff... so we had to dig up some more paperwork, after we got it it was resubmitted on 6/2 .. again .. kicked back 2 days later because Aetna was waiting on a response from my dr. on if he operated out of one of Aetna's IOQ centers... After I found out he didn't, I resubmitted with another surgeon the same day, and was certified that evening... So for me it was about 2 weeks, I don't know if it would have been quicker if everything were submitted correctly the first time... or if I had started with a surgeon that was out of a Aetna IOQ center (Aetna wouldn't pay for me to have surgery if it wasn't at an IOQ, something I did not know before starting the procesS) besides that, it was a painless process, and they have been from prompt with just about everything I have wanted to speak to them about. Good Luck!
  9. s this surgery not for me? I'm HELLBENT on this surgery, but if I can't have a glass of wine or two once a week, it's a dealbreaker this was a concern for me- look at my blog... i am all about making wine- 22/7... IMO- sleeve is the better of the two for wanting a drink... The phycologist and my surgeon both agreed, it would not interfere, however, the amounts would change- and to be very careful of crossover addiction. I slowed down quite a bit pre-op, and yes- on the fourth did have several Jello shots... one didn't hurt, so I had a few more through out the day while swimming... wasn't wine... I'm not gonna tempt my stomach at this time... I want it healed... I do have plans on doing a red wine jello shot... so what you got to decide is it right for you... after surgery, who knows until you try it... I am having trouble with a lot of foods, however ice cream and Cookies are no problem... yes- I had a skinny cow, and it was good! and I had 1 PB cookie, and it went down easily... I try mashed potato, quesadilla , and it is wanting to come back up instantly...

    IM GAINING weight !!

Hi, I lost weight prior to surgery, not one pound since. I am on my Fitnesspal.com which was an easy way to track calories. I am supposed t be eating 1200 calories a day and seem to be consistently under that. I have no interest in eating any more than I am. And this includes a McDonalds low fat cone whenever I want one. I can't have ice cream in the house. Its a trigger food and I know it. I go to the gym 4x a week for an hour. I'm hoping the pa will have some suggestions to help. This is not easy. Its like a puzzle I can't quite figure out. Good luck, Keep the faith

PMS + Pre Op = STARVING

Honestly, I have the same problem. I'm on day 12 of my 2 week pre op diet and today I ATE pizza. I'm freaking out now, because I've done so well *14 lbs down* ...don't fall off the band wagon like I did, you will feel SO guilty! The other 13 days I would just drink an extra Protein shake, or have carrots or some fresh fruit Pre op diet: 1 shake for Breakfast 4 oz of chicken or turkey + 1 cup carrots + small dinner salad for lunch 1 shake for dinner AND A LOT OF Water
  12. Ok after I got the clearance from insurance(they told me it would be at least 3 weeks before I even would be scheduled) my surgeons office called Tuesday Sept 21st and gave me a surgery date of Monday Sept 27th. At that time she told me to start on a liquid diet I had already had breakfast and lunch by then, so I started the liquid diet the next day the 22nd, my dilema I struggled and slipped twice since then now my Surgery is tomorrow and I am scared, But the other dilema is if originally I was told I would need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and I was scheduled for surgery with only 5 days of a liquid diet how important is it really? my BMI is 43 wt 267 ht 5feet 6inches need help dont know if I should cancel tomorrow and rescedule.

Surgery 4/27/11 OMG I'm nervous lol

You're going to be fine! After the surgery, walk around as much as you can. Follow your doctor's orders to the letter and follow the post op meal plan carefully. Concentrate more on healing in the first few weeks and don't worry so much about weight loss. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi I'm feeling disappointed and I don't know how to make things better..... I haven't seen any loses in about 3 months. 15. Started my 2 weeks pre-op diet. I have a weird feeling in my stomach..... Guess it's nerves cause it's getting so close to date of surgery.lol I can do this and I will make it through it! I'm not even a little hungry. Had no last minute, last meal binge or anything like that so I'm pretty proud of myself. I want my liver to be in tip top shape when they go in to fix my tummy. I have to say... I have surprised myself by not sabotaging the process. Then again we will see what the end of this two weeks brings.

    Feeling Doubtful

I went to my pre-op education class on the 14th. I had been on a liquid diet (self imposed) for two weeks and had only lost 5 lbs since my last visit two weeks earlier! Some of us are just very slow losers, and I'm finally at an age (54) that I realize this and am willing to be patient this time. Don't give up! It will eventually come off!!!!!
  17. Hi, im getting banded on 10th Feb by Dr Dolan at Joondalup hospital. I am in my 2nd week of Optifast, surprised I must say, not going too bad. I am having a shake for Breakfast, bar for lunch and Soup for dinner, jelly and broths inbetween, oh plus. two cups of veggies and one fruit. A little bit anxious about the pain part, but feeling very positive for the future. Any body out there who live in Perth, I would love to hear from you. And any body else where ever you are. Desiree
  18. Got a call from the surgeon's office this morning and they're sending my case in to insurance for approval. I might get my surgery scheduled for the first of 2012 yet. My first real appointment with them was back in September and I've always expressed interest in the sleeve over GBS although I was open to the experts telling me GBS was a better option for me. Last week they sprang an additional test on me (esophageal manometry) but today the surgeon went ahead and waived it because no one had ever indicated to me anywhere along the way (since September) that it was something I needed to do. I wonder if his interest in having band and sleeve patients do this test is research oriented? That would explain (to me) why he's willing to let go of the test rather easily. I recall only one other sleeve person indicating they'd had this extra test. I feel one step closer anyway and thought I'd share. Wish me insurance luck!
  19. Congrats to you!! I was scheduled to have surgery May 27th, however I got a call yesterday that my insurance company has denied it. I'm fighting with them now, but what a horrible call to get 1-week out from surgery!
  20. Tomorrow I have a pre op appointment my surgery is in to weeks just wondering what to expect.

  22. Congrats! That's wonderful! I've lost 6 lbs in the past week on liquid diet. My surgery is a week from today. Nervous about the actual procedure but SO ready for the wonderful changes ahead!
  23. Hello sleevers. I am a 35 BMI with hypertension. I've spent my life dieting (losing and then gaining more). I consider myself a dieting expert. The problem is I just gain it all back later. I am sure many of you are like me. So now I am 4 months out before I start my pysch eval and cardio workup. My doc says he wants me to lose weight now, during this 4-month period. I wil be doing a liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery next year as well. My doc says he wants me to show the bariatric team I can make changes. I wanted to scream. I've spend my life doing this, doc. So now I'm going to diet again, only to do the two week liquid diet before surgery? I totally understand the liquid diet--it's a safety issue. As for the losing weight now, on a diet, I feel like it is punishment. I feel punished for being fat. I was surprised at how it made me feel. I can understand not gaining weight, but full-fledged dieting right now? GRRRRRRR.... Please don't chastise me that I'm going to need to make changes and be disciplined after the surgery--I get that and am all for it. I've been doing it all of my life without the tool of the surgery, so I'll be fine with it. I am just emotionally drained with dieting and the scale right now! Did anyone else feel this way? Bottom line: I'll lose weight and follow the rules. I just need to move past my diet burnout stage. TDSK
  24. I'm 18 years old. I've been overweight since I was little. I've come to the conclusion that I am obsessed with food. Any diet I've tried (and believe me, I've tried them all) I would give in and cheat. I'd fail miserably every time. I couldn't be in front of food without having any. If someone were to ask me if anyone wanted "seconds" I'd be the only one to say yeah. At a buffet I'd go up three or four times. Anyway.. 2weeks ago I started my liquid diet (pre op diet). And let me tell you how proud I am of myself. I did not cheat once.I had a "last supper" three days before the liquid diet started. But since then I've lost a few pounds and only stuck to what the doctor told me. Last week I was at a labor day party. There was sooo much food and I didn't even touch it! I was so happy and proud of myself because I didn't see where this self control came from. But to be honest, I was just in the kitchen and I was sooo tempted to get a bag of chips. And I even went to eat slices of cheese. I had the knife in my hand and I was ready to give in. But it instantly hit me that my surgery is on tuesday!! I've been waiting for this for 5years. I couldn't bring myself to screw this up. So I put away the chips and the cheese and got a jello instead.
