    February 2019 weight loss buds

Had RNY 2/4/19... did very well and no more freeking acid reflux!!! 64 lbs down since the 2nd week of January ( did the liver shrinking diet and to my amazement, I followed it ) and foamies 2xs and dumped once( over a damn Think Thin bar) and I don’t want to do that ever again.. I am great with the protein thing... middle to fair with water and awesome with watching carbs.. my surgeon allows fruits and I am now obsessed with my one naval orange a day and pineapple(fresh) and salads.. I haven’t craved much junk but I’m in maine with the kids and I really wanted some of my sons birthday cake but we had a house full and I didn’t want to be rude and be sick so, I didn’t.. everyone’s journey is different, I am COLD ALL the time and I have loose skin and a VERY wrinkly neck but I don’t care.. I wear it with honor because I finally did something positive for myself and I regret NOTHING... food was never the answer to my problems and I hope to stay on track and be a hero in my own life , not a victim .my Daddy passed on March 28th .. 96, he lived with me.. he was very supportive of my surgery.. the night he died I ate a piece of chicken too fast and foamies galore!! It was the last time I turned to food and I’m glad I got sick...I’m changing, I’m a different woman than I was 6 months ago and I plan to be even better next year.. this forum helped so much as I recovered and I’m so grateful!
  2. I can tell why people compare their weight losses 1, You rationalize it!--- Same time Same weight loss 2 Yiycsee Suzie or Sally be- bopping. along, walking 5 mikes daily, never nauseous, never dizzy, skin snapping right into shape, they don't have areas on their tummy or thighs that look like deflated rubber balloons. which leads to #3 3. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong. Maybe when's have more bloods era when they will find my vitaminn leveks al screwy , maybe I am so malnourised that there may Not be a any, hope of fixing ME.

What do your tattoos look like now?

I have a tattoo on my hip/upper butt that I got in my early twenties that I'm hoping doesn't end up in the middle of my butt after I loose more weight! Like you I'm not worried about my ankle tat. By the way, I've been wondering about you and if you worked out the problem you had with your endoscopy clearance?
  4. Well, I think she will explain this weekend. But this one is pretty simple. No animal protein. A super greens green smoothie 2x a day and unlimited green veggies. So it doesn't sound complicated. I am getting the kind of super greens from the grocery store. I can find the amazing greens super green mix. 2g protein per drink. It's supposed to be low protein <20g per day from plant based sources. And you are supposed to limit BCAAs (which you get a lot of from protein isolate - whey). So this is a good source. And you also get protein from the things like broccoli, spinach, kale, etc. The idea is that by limiting protein, then you force your body to consume the extra and broken proteins in your body. So that once the fast is over and you're eating the healthy building blocks of protein again, you build new, healthy protein. Supposedly that helps you with all kinds of things, including excess skin and then building new muscle!!! By doing this, so far, my weight has remained stable. Today I'm at 138.2lbs but my body fat percent continues to drop. This morning it was at 25.6% (down from 30% at the same weight). So something is definitely changing?

What do your tattoos look like now?

I was looking at pictures on Google and noticed that the colors really changed when their skin wasn't pulled as tight. I have a paisley pattern tattoo that's all black and I'm scared it's just going to look like a giant blob lol. Sent from my moto e5 plus using BariatricPal mobile app

    No family support

I have only told my Daughter and Mom. My Mom is worried to death. She is like why you want to be skinny. That's not what I am looking for. I want to be healthy and to feel comfortable in my skin. My husband would have a cow. Not sure how I am going to do this when surgery time comes. It's hard to tell many people because they want to say do this diet or that. I have done them all that's for sure. They say you've always been example in losing weight before, I wish they would think of the times I've gain it back within months. I know even we sleeve you can gain it back I am hoping by the time I can eat more that I will have enough knowledge and the big one, the mental stability. I am afraid to have surgery but is just something I must do for me. It would just be nice if others understood and could give me support. Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using BariatricPal mobile app

What do your tattoos look like now?

I have a small tattoo on my hip/upper butt, and it looks the same as it did pre-op, probably because the area of skin where its located didn't get saggy from the weight loss, and its so small (about the size of my thumb). I don't have any before pictures unfortunately, so an after pic would be pretty useless, lol. P,S. I am mulling over the idea of getting tattoos to camouflage any plastic surgery scars I may get in the future....which actually is something you may also want to keep in mind if you are considering plastics: your tattoos will likely be more affected by that than by weight loss...

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?

Hey there! One way to see if you can live with the lifestyle changes longterm is to start implementing them prior. The ones you can stick to *may* be the ones that will carry you through permanently (i.e. giving up takeout FOREVER vs only having it for special occasions, not being able to exercise in the gym 24/7 RAIN OR SHINE vs walking in the evenings or giving up bread/rice/pasta FOR ETERNITY vs once a month in maintenance, etc.) Think about what you absolutely will never give up and be honest with yourself about if it will work with the post op lifestyle. The things you can't commit to that will cause burnout maybe more harm than help, but only you will know. I'm no special circumstance on either side of the spectrum when it comes to WLS. Mine was slow and unspectacular. But it got me to where i needed to be. I worked arduously for every lb lost. Had to work different angles to accomplish goals. It wasn't too easy but not an epic struggle either. I have made many concessions and given up many things because ive honestly had a lifetime filled with them anyways (my choice) I'm no self proclaimed foodie because i don't necessarily feel the love with food like some may, but I'm not simply ascetic eating for fuel either. I do have a thread that's dedicated directly to food on the board so can see what people are actually eating. Bowel movements with the sleeve aren't that much different pre/post op. Immediately after surgery for me they started out one way then change to another then stabilize (loose, impacted, just right). But this is usually if there are no complications. This surgery is also referred to as Metabolic Surgery so you have to speak with the Team you choose about the science behind that. It will matter. You will not gain and lose like someone who has not had surgery or their metabolism reset/altered. It *may* be possible to gain/lose on less/more calories than before because your BMR will be lowered/accelerated. I've seen a few posts where people are going in not understanding this and are bewildered later. But there is no precursor to knowing where you will land. Many many many things can effect your outcome. Your journey is going to be as individual as you are. You will have to tailor it around what will work best for you. Team/sites/groups/studies can give you expected outcomes based on averages but you may fall at either end of that haunting bell curve. Or like me just sitting somewhere on the middle of it often eating a salad and being a vigilant watchman again regain. Good Luck 💜

I honestly don't mind losing slow ! As long as I lose, I've heard if you lose slow you will have less excess skin.

    Overtraining & Stalls???? Frustrated.....

Yes they are. My body is changing, just not seeing it on scale. I know I'm getting leaner, I have added muscle mass, and it is a marathon not a sprint but still, some days gets very frustrating especially seeing others with massive weightloss. I am happy with how I don't have a ton of loose skin so i guess that's plus too.
  12. So, I'm 9 weeks out from Gastric Bypass, and I've lost nearly 50 lbs. I can already tell I'm in better shape as I'm able to walk around longer without losing my breath, able to fit in things that were tight on me before, and well, my shirts and work pants are loose. But I've noticed something else. Sitting in my chair at work starts hurting after a while as it feels like the hard surface is digging into my butt. Also, my back will randomly start aching even though it's carrying less around. My mother, who has also had bypass, said that it's likely the body adjusting to the lower weight and the pain shall pass, but still, it's... odd. You'd think the pain would get less as I started weighing less, not more.

Not to totally take this in another direction but.....Have any of you now developed dry skin , especially on your face? I used to make fun of the older ladies in my family slithering on Ponds Cold Creme and such, well be careful what you mock, Karma has circled around and proves her point! Good Thing that I don't have an husband anymore, if he tried to kiss me, his lips would slide right off! LOL- it is what it is!

    Losing weight before surgery

The purpose of this diet is to improve your surgical outcome (smaller liver volume, improves blood work, promotes faster healing, les incision infection and other complications). You are also already in the mind set of discipline and dietary restrictions post op helping you during the recovery. For most of us the diet and weight loss happens several times before we commit to surgery and at this time we know that we are unsuccessful long term without this additional tool. My honest advice to you is to do a lot of soul searching and have some serious and committed attempts to loose weight with diet and exercise alone before you decide to have the surgery. It is a great tool if understood and used correctly but it is also life altering and not easy at the same time. You may regret going through this road if you feel like diet and exercise will work for you to achieve your weight loss goals.

    NSV's Spring 2019 Edition

Well I have an unexpected NSV today. I have had hung back a pretty robin egg blue outfit, Capri pants, a lacy feminine blousy top, a 44B mat Hong bra and panty set. Don't know why I think I have to be gift'-wrapped to go to the doctor's office but bear with me. I started by trying to put on the bra. OMG the "girls Underfill the cups and the band is LOOSE! What flippin" size am I anyway? There is one remaining store in my general area(well in Newark-23 miles South) who has a Bra- Fitter, guess I shall have drag my formerly fat, now flappy, floppy loose-skin self there, and humble myself to be measured. So needless to say, if that didn't fit , I went no further with THAT outfit. Maybe I will be like Aunt Myrtle, she used to fill her cups with tissues to look bigger. At least, if my nose runs I won't be without something to wipe with!👈👸👉
  16. I'm certain I'm going to be a slow loser too! Part of me is happy for skin side but the other is like ugh I want to feel lighter and do more things! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi there. I think Frustr8 was trying to answer your questions about any advice we could give you and multivitamins for hair loss. She told you that: -She takes Vitamins D, A and Prenatals with Iron -She believes she experienced some hair loss but it's hard to tell since red heads traditionally have less hair -With the minor hair loss she did experience, it was isolated to her bangs and was a simple fix that her hairdresser solved by giving her one of those haircuts she had when she was young -At around 3 months, she incorporated hair, skin and nails vitamins into her regimen which seems to help fight hair loss -She was having a difficult time swallowing capsules and even though she had by-pass, they gave her really bad acid reflux which is typically only an issue for those that opted for sleeve so her Dr. approved a multivitamin in a gummy form instead. Be careful with those and read the ingredients as many contain corn syrup and processed sugars which is not allowed after surgery since it can lead to "dumping" and get you back to being sugar-addicted which leads to weight gain. Go for gummies that are 100% fruit juice based instead -She now notices that she can no longer even tolerate the desserts and sweets that she used to love. She had a bit of a jelly bean this past Easter and vomited immediately. She was trying to be helpful and offer you some advice, insight, tips, that she noticed from her own experiences that could be helpful to you. Like you asked. December 2018 Sleevers!

Guys, on a separate note, any of you guys have issue with loose skin and stretch marks? I have been trying different products, but if you guys have recommendations for ones that seem to actual help---I am all ears (eyes?). I am not loving the loose skin or stretch marks at the moment (or the big scar from the surgery which is worse than I think it should be).

    Bathing Suits

My thighs are totally not ready for prime time, saggy skin city! But I haven't worn any bottoms over them, I guess I just DGAF. 🤣 (I'm not sure why I will show my saggy thighs, but never my saggy tummy, hmmmm)

Took Vitamin D, Vitamin A and my prenatal vitamin, so ordered by my team because it does contain iron along with a lot of other good things and minerals. Well I did have some hair thinning, hard to tell because I'm Red-geaded and we naturally have the fewest hairs per square inch. What I noticed was I lost my fringe of bangs, so yesterday I had Shelia, my cosmotological consultant, okay beautician give me an updated DA, same style I wore at 15 except I don't have the spiked out ducktail in the backm Easy-peasy to take care of, and I started on hair, nail skin vitamins at 3 months, got special permission to use gummie, those are usually 1st ingredient concentrated fruit juice or corn syrup, and that's going to feed the sugar addiction you're trying to kill. But I usually operate at a caloric deficiency, mine are fruit juice instead of corn syrup or sugar and the capsules I was using first gave me indigestion and refkux, yeah Bypassers are not supposed to reflux, but it built up gas or something and up the burning sensation came, and I had enough GERD reflux, before surgery to diagnose it myself. And if I taste even a miniscule, amount,of ice cream, cookies pies or candy, it literally. sickens me, sniched a jelly bean from the Easter basket I gave Tomkitten who is in his 30s, long past needing one. I used to,❤the spicey ones more than the funky*'junky fruit- tasting ones . So I got out a cinnamon one, chewed and swollowed. And up it came, with a vengeance, worse than the Terminator! Oops I shan't repeat that mistake!

    Bathing Suits

LOL All the bathing suits I have are 18/22 so I went on smile.amazon and found this one. Because of my extra skin bat arms.. Now I'm not that tall so there is no big gap between the top and bottom, so it is almost looking like a one piece. I LOVE IT I does run small I'm a size 10 now I ordered a XL. I can't wait to wear it next week.
  22. Oh and I misspoke about the weight loss timing, it was 8.5 months not years. And I have the Basal Metabolism of a Sick Sea Snail, your get v up and go just went over the years. My body left to it's own devices , and many years I did that, liked Me FAT, saw nothin wrong with me looking like Bip The Michelin Mans Twin Sister. Hey Frustr8, we have been steady friends over 70+ yearrs, these are your Retirement years, retire from living, stay say in that Easy Chair with a Bag of Snack Food. So I had to do an "End-Around" maneuver worthy of the NFL, to get past its defenses. Oh as I tried to lose some pre-surg weight, I opted for cleaner healthier changes but I was throwing down frequent feedings, Body didn't suspect a thing, and I had been seeking a Bariatric Solution for over 3 tears,so Body thought this was a phase I was going through, got quite a shock when I had my RNY last September, got its revenge by structuring my pouch and giving me jejunal ulcers. Well I have been in this fight since last October, it should resolve by late summer, been on anti- nausea meds(Zofran) a strong PPI(Dexilent) and an ulcer-healer (Carafate) along with all my other meds,Magnesium , prenatal vitamin(because it does have iron, folate and all those vitamin goodies)Wellbutrin ( to keep my depression at a mild state) liquid calcium citrate, brand name Wellesse, get it at Wal-Mart, Additional Vitamin D, I live in Ohio and don't often get outside, some meds make me sun- sensitive, and at very best summer I burn, blister and peel, by August or Labor Day I may have a pale tan, best you can hope for a Celtic heritage with Strawberry Blonde hair, okay okay Red-Gold, and I take an additional iron pill called Ferrocite, it's ferrous fumerate, an iron salt even my pouch and intestine can assimilate. But I had to have an Iron INFUSION in March because I was that anemic. But I am hopeful my next labs are better, if not another one in June before my next endoscopy, this EGJ should tell the story, if no better or just the same --surgical intervention is coming , don't know exactly what, but I was told that after my last one in April. My guess is removal of ulcer-ridden section of small intestine, and then re-anastomosis aka rejoining back together healthier tissue. I Am very certain, they won't do anything to Precious Pouch, she looks pretty sweet to the "scopers" thought I was patent, that means open enough that food can pass through and into the s.I., might have been okay that day, but she has tightened up again, still on protein shakes, highly pureed things, she does not like meat, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, makes for a tedious time, but I still have Soup, broths,no-calorie fluids, And although I am so special I stink, I am. relatively health, clinic says I look good, I still believe I look like roadkill, lovely roadkill, but there I be. Have lost my Hubba-heiny, legs are more shapely, my garbage gut skin is loose and bumpy, I have a scrawny neck like a turtle, the high cheekbones from the Native tribe Daddy's family denies, look in my scrapbooks, every generation it looks stronger, My great-great grandfather was a dead ringer for Iron Eyes Cody the actor, if you were nearly as old as me you would know he was the Indian who stood crying at the polluted things we have done to Mother Earth in the name of progress. Actually asked Aunt Minnie, Daddy's sister, she drew up to her full 5ft4in and announced "We Never Discuss That!" well Yipes can't blame a girl for asking. Do you have Wikipedia on your Smartphone or computer? Go to Peoria Indian tribe or people, the lady pictured there is the spitting image of Aunt Minnie! Yes I look Celtic, fair, taller than even my uncles, but they are dark- haired, mostly straight, few of them now have permanents, medium complections, over heard a discussion of the older generatio one day. Relative#1 Are you sure she's ours? She sure don't look like us! Relative#2 Well Cliff says she's his, maybe she favors that mother of hers. Only thing I can figure out. But Karma is a broad with a warped sense of humor, except for being another color scheme, now that I have lost so much weight I am the spitting image of my Paternal Grandmother, high cheekbones and all. Probably she and my own Mama are both whirling in their graves, luckily 30 miles apart, They did not get along all that well! So who or what I look like at my goal of 175? That just remains to be seen. Hang around a while if you like, I have someone tell me how paste a picture on here, maybe I will get the courage to try that!
