Will I be able to eat "Normal" again?
alfofohio replied to dianegoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Diane, I also was banded on Jan. 15. I was only restricted to clear liquids for one day. I am able to eat pureed oatmeal, thin cream of wheat, pureed meat, baby food vegies & fruits, pureed cottage cheese, carnation instant breakfast, yogurt. Today is 6th day after my surgery date. I do have some stomach pain after eating, so don't eat too much. I can only eat about 2 tablespoons every 2 hours. I also keep sipping constantly on water/unsweetened fruit juice diluted, crystal light, hot tea. Hang in there. It will get better. I don't think you are getting enough protein. I found the oatmeal delicious and hot & satisfying. Just don't eat too much. Good luck to you. -
Please drink as much as you can. even if you do not want to. it is soothing to the stomach and helps your body heal. incorporate your protein also in any means possible. Body can not heal without the protein either. you will become stronger and healthier quicker if you can get that in as soon as possible. Good luck and i hope you have a speedy recovery.

Pre-op vs. Liquid diet
McButterpants replied to my2bys9799's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some patients will have an all liquid diet prior to surgery, some don't. My doc's pre-op diet consisted of 2 Protein shakes and one "lean and green" meal per day. The lean and green meal consisted of 4-5 ounces of lean meat and some vegetables. One thing you will find - many doctors prescribe different pre-op diets for their VSG patients. Also, post-op diets and the re-introduction of food differs from doctor to doctor. -
Pre-op vs. Liquid diet
Kittenheart replied to my2bys9799's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a 2 day full liquid pre op it was basically clear liquids with protein drinks. -
Just got home from the gym and entered in the above daily meal plan into myfitnesspal. Under 900 calories, 115g Protein, 39g carbs, 28g fat, 13g sugar and only 985 sodium. These numbers are including my 2 flintstone Vitamins, 2 upcalD Calcium packs, a b12 pill.and 15g of Glutamine I actually enjoy preparing my meals in advance now, before I never enjoyed cooking. I decide what I want to eat for the week and usually prepare enough food to last 3 days. I find 3 days in the fridge allows the food to taste as if I just cooked it when I heat it up up to 3 days later. Here a little trick I do to make my prepared meals taste like I just cooked them. I keep a little spray bottle filled with Water next to the microwave. I take my prepacked meal in tupperware, mist it 2-3 times, close the lid tightly but leave just one corner slightly open. When I microwave it, it almost steams the meal and makes everything juicy and fresh tasting as if I just cooked it.

The picture from the last meeting
Mrs Sabre replied to Dragonwillow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. Timothy Kuwada does lap-band at CMC. I don't know if he goes to Presbyterian or not. I got his name from Inmed (spelling[?], the makers of lap-band), and the weight loss specialist I saw last week knows of him and approved. Maybe this is an option for you? -
Ugh I'm messing up already
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bb3586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can't find soft foods you like you can also still use liquid supplements to get your Protein. You don't have to default to noodles and other carbs. When I was on soft foods I lived on yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, soup, pudding, eggs, and Protein shakes. The second week of soft foods I was allowed soft fish so I added tuna, tilapia, and salmon to the mix. Each phase builds on the previous phases so you can continuously add foods to your options. -
I am on a waiting list to take my required classes for my surgery and have been doing alot of reasearch. I've found out that I love watching updates of people on youtube, especially amysdmom. It is very supporting and inspiring. Overall, from watching all these videos, I've realized that everyone talks about their Protein and getting their protien in daily. I had thought that after surgery (I know alot changes) but after about a year or 2 overall I thought the only thing that would change in life (besides clothes size) is the way you eat. Now I'm thinking...Maybe since these people are talking about protien alot as well as counting calories and carbs all the time, is this a FOREVER thing? I mean...I know you have to watch what you eat and all that good stuff, but will I have to take protien shakes everyday and count all my calories, take Vitamins?? :confused1:I just have so many questions. Also, if you know of any more you tube updates let me know! Thanks in advance!

It is definitely better to make fresh food because of having better control of the ingredients and less sodium and preservatives. The affect of foods on gas varies greatly by the individual so you pretty much have to experiment to find what works for you. If you need to eat frozen foods the new Atkin's meals are good and fit well in the number ranges most of us look for. The ww meals tend to be a lot higher in carbs which some try to avoid, but more importantly a lot of them have pastas which are high in starches and have expansive properties that can cause problems with your sleeve until it is properly healed so I would recommend avoiding them for the first 6 months to be safe. If you like buffalo chicken an easy recipe I have found is to use the canned chicken breast (looks like canned tuna) add some hot sauce, stir together, then add 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Put it in a microwavable bowl, put it in for 1 minute, stir and put back in microwave for another minute. This comes out to 140 calories, 2 carbs and 17 proteins and it is quick and easy. I have also at times taken this after making as described above and spread it thin on a baking sheet and placed it in the oven at 400 degrees and flipped it every 5 minutes until it get hard like a cracker.

I never really had gas or heartburn prior to surgery and now post op I rarely experience it either. I was sleeved Jan 22nd, 2013... I advanced through the diet stages pretty quickly though and feel I have a bulletproof sleeve. I was eating and keeping down chicken and steak at 4 weeks. Had no issues getting my minimum Protein and Water requirements 1 week out.

Hello! 3 days post Lap Band
April Raine replied to April Raine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
LOL! I know it's hard cooking and watching everybody enjoy FOOD. The doc called today and told me I have to stay on Protein drinks till my first appt on the 16th...Crap! Oh well...My son's bday is Friday, so I will have to go through all that too.. My incision actually stopped bleeding..I just wish my stomach would go down. I feel so bloated. .I know this is going to be all worth it in the end..but I'm about ready to hijack the burger king down the street.... Good luck to you Stephenie....and keep me posted on your progress... -
Name is Lorraine....I got to my highest weight @ 290. Decided if I didn't do something quick I wouldn't see my kids grow up. I was banded on Aug 4th 2011. I have never been more nervous about anything in my life, but the surgeon and staff were amazing. I didn't feel a thing. I felt it all afterwards. I really had no pain anywhere else but the bottom incision, where the port is. That one hurts like a sucker. Then the incision on the side started to bleed a little. It's the one that has the most bruising, but doesn't hurt much. I did my 48 hours of Clear liquids...if I taste another cup of broth I will vomit... Jello is also starting to lose it's goodness...Well I started on the liquids. I've been drinking Protein drinks, yogurt and applesauce....all fat free of course. Feeling a little bit more hungry today. I just keep drinking fluids and hope this day passes quickly. I get to start "mushies" on the 12th. Looking forward to a change. If anyone has any advice about the hunger or about the bleeding incision please let me know.

Yeah! I made it through one more day. I ate high protein stuff all day and ate only some cauliflower and cantaloupe for carbs. The cantaloupe was a very small amount. It sure tasted good though. Hopefully I will break my 22 lb mark and drop a few more pounds before I get my fill in 2 weeks. :car:

Question about weight loss before surgery
Billy363627 replied to Sara Ann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:welldoneclap: Well I can tell you from experience in two weeks I lost 18 pounds pre op.. You have to be strict and be very determined when your on your liquids. Sugarfree jello I lived on..lol Make sure you getting 60+ grams of protein a day through protein shakes. Drink as much water as you can stand and be commited. It is going to be difficult for the first 3 days but after that I think you will do awesome.. You can do it!!!!! Also make sure you pick protein drinks that have little to no carbs..By day 3 or 4 your body should be in keytosis a constant state of fat burning..You got cheerleaders here if you need someone give you support... -
Stopped losing weight
Imabeskinny replied to BPN80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I run through the following checklist when I don't lose for a few days: - Am I drinking 64+ of water? This is my main culprit. - Am I getting in 60+ of protein? - Am I taking all my vitamins? - Calorie check - I will raise for a few days, then drop a couple days. - Carb check - I will lower to 20-30/day - How much did I exercise? 3-4 days/week - Is it that time of the month? - Am I obsessing too much over the scale? Usually if I take a week break and do the other things noted above, I will lose. - What are my NSVs, I can always find one (ex. I found my neck bone, or dropped a size, or finally did 20 burpees without dying) -
i got banded 7/26/07 start weight 238 lbs. now only 206 lbs. i thought it would happen faster i go to kickboxing 4-5 times a week i follow weight watchers get lots of water and protein is this normal in 5 months to only lose 32 lbs or am i just rushing things ???? ( i have gotten 2 fills )

Liquid diet
Montana Gal replied to Charli3baltimor3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Per my surgeon's orders, I used clear Isopure(GNC) in order to get Protein during the pre op liquid phase. Mine was 12 days. It tasted nasty, and believe me I tried at least 5 flavors. But I drank it anyway and it did help with hunger. Good luck and stay focused. You can do this! -
well, let me tell you something interesting. . I'm out 18 months and still losing hair like mad (mine started at 3 months out). . amazingly I'm not bald yet, but it's definately thinned out a lot. . . i eat normally and it's not stopping. . soooo as far as nutrition goes, nope i don't believe it either. . will it eventually stop? Who knows. . . I've used shampoos, vitamins, more vitamins, more protein, with no luck. . . I'm just darn lucky i don't have bald spots or bald areas. . . don't know what to tell ya. . .

Questions about mushies
luluc replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i would add hummus to tuna salad, cottage cheese or eat alone...now i eat it w/veggies greek yogurt has more protein than the regular kind, no fat as well - you can find it at most stores & walmart now carries. -
I got a fill this past Friday and I think I am too tight. I did liquids the day of, I was able to eat chili yesterday for lunch, but chicken for dinner wouldn't go. I made an omelette this morning and that wouldn't go. I hope ts just swelling and will pass. Puking every meal is not an option!

So this weekend didn't go as well as I hoped for in terms of dieting//working out. Saturday would have been day 2 for my diet & working out for my pre-op diet but I woke up with a really sore throat that morning & I couldn't really get out of bed until I had to for work. I worked late that night and then had to drive back to my parents house to start my winter break from college! Yesterday I was still not feeling the greatest so there wasn't alot of exercising on Saturday & Sunday besides work but I did pretty good with the eating part, I was definitely reasonable with the choices I made so that's a plus in all this. So today I woke up feeling much better so I started again on my diet & work out. I'm doing my 3 protein shakes a day & then a Lean Cuisine, or another meal similar, for dinner. Lynn, my nurse that is awesome, told me that I need to do 90 minutes of exercise a day to have weight loss so that's what I have been doing. On Friday, which was day 1, I did 60 minutes on one of the bike machines & then I did 30 minutes on one of the olyptical machines at my schools fitness center. Now that I am at home & don't have access to an actual fitness center I'll just be using our treadmill that we own. Today I started on the treadmill & had 45 minutes completed & I was really getting into it & I had my iPod blasting & then the machine turned off out of nowhere! Now it is not working, oh boy. My brother suggested that I use our Wii Fit games that we have cause those are work outs too I guess? So I'm going to look into that as well. I hope everyone else is doing great & is enjoying this time of year! Luck & words of encouragement are always appreciated! Until tomorrow... missKAYLA
