Tried out the Detour Lean Muscle Bar today. It is not bad in terms of taste, nutritional stats and satiety. The flavor I got is cookie dough caramel. This may be on the sweet side for some, but it does not seem to bother me. Calories: 190 Fat: 6g Carbs: 17 g (1 fiber, w sugar and 13 sugar alcohols) Sodium : 230 mg Protein: 16 g Vitamins: claim is 21 Vitamins and minerals. A little high on sodium, but still manageable. I still like the nu go slim bars better over all.

I also eat the pure protein bars. The mint, and peanutbutter ones are good.

Liquid Diet And Fading Hunger

I don't know. Solid protein would be nice. I have the "should have been predictable" issue of liquid in, liquid out. -
Day 4 Of Liquids.....
4ALongerLife replied to danibecca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love cream of chicken and mushroom Soup. IDK why but it's the bomb. Mix it with 4 oz of ff milk and 2 oz of water... makes 2 servings at 1 c each. And you might say yuck at this, but blended ff cottage cheese with SF torani syrup (I love it with caramel). It's got a lot of Protein (12 g) with low calories (80 total) in a 1/2 c. It's hard for liquids with your tummy, but once you are sleeved, it's much easier. Hang in there, you are doing wonderfully! Best of luck! xx -
I am 3 days post op too. They released me from hospital but offered for me to stat another night. Hospital staff so short handed I wanted to go home so I would gave more personal care. I'm feeling good... def gassy and sore. Trying to get all my fluids and Protein in, you? Also they didn't give me a leak test after surgery because machine was not working or expected to be working in near future -- that really concerned me but my surgeon said I was ok.

Here is a protein water I always suggest when people are looking for an alternative for shakes. https://www.biprousa.com/shop/w30-case-12-bottles?ads_cmpid=406311130&ads_adid=25532795170&ads_matchtype=&ads_network=g&ads_creative=84937584490&utm_term=&ads_targetid=pla-63528819233&utm_campaign=&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&ttv=2&gclid=CjwKCAjwio3dBRAqEiwAHWsNVdG5DOE1BL8xkGLGpGx7iHspoZNHVeBwcy4NFitVgpAhdld9TF4nOxoCYwEQAvD_BwE

Protein Chewbies, the thought is an interesting concept, here in America I am sure if there is a need, someone will invent one. Wonder what flavor it will be? Please, tell it won't be Liver Snaps, I had a dog who left them half-eaten all over the place! 🐶🍬🍖

March 18, 2009 Today I had my fourth fill. I hope to recommit to eating appropriately and making sure that I get enough protein. I plan to stay away from slider foods including chips, ice-cream, cookies, etc. I am so...ticked at myself when I think about all of the time I have wasted and why I paid 13,500 dollars for a procedure to work so fervently to sabatage my success? I just don't understand my psyche! I am sick and tired of living my life dreaming of how I would look and how I would be when I lose weight. I want it to become my reality...

Must Have's on the Grocery list?
Bree99 replied to Liftingchic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always buy fruit, usually apples and strawberries. I like Hungry Cow cheeses and baked crackers. I buy pork tenderloin and thinly sliced ham, also canned tuna and chicken for lunches. I use a lot of eggs and turkey bacon. I keep Special K protein water mixes and use them daily. All veggies are good! -

Must Have's on the Grocery list?
BetsyB replied to Liftingchic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My lists are very simple, but come from a few different places. From Bariatric Eating Inspire Protein powder PURE unflavored protein Cancun chili seasoning mix From the grocery store: spinach lettuce garlic whatever other fresh veggies look good berries, or whatever fresh fruit looks good broccoli slaw mix--I eat a LOT of this Ken's Lite Asian sesame salad dressing cheeses--cheddar, cottage, Parmesan Greek yogurt (sometimes--it is a little slidey, so I don't have it as often as I did preop) almond milk ground chicken (for chili) turkey Italian sausage beans--fat-free refried, black Beans, kidney beans, cannelini beans, etc. from Market Day (ordered monthly from my son's school): shrimp tilapia-tortilla-crusted and plain scallops salmon cod rack of pork boneless pork chops chicken breasts portions--plain and teriyaki ground beef -
I eat a little fruit or vegetable every day. It's not much, but I think it helps. A couple of strawberries at Breakfast and 1/8 cup or more vegetables with lunch or dinner. Of course, I'm quite a bit further out. At first I didn't have room for Protein and vegetables. I did used to eat about 1/4 cup of watermelon before I had room for veggies. I also started taking 1 rounded teaspoon of benefiber a day. Everyone's body has its own schedule, but I've always been a regular once per dayer. If I miss a day, I take colace till I'm back on track. Lynda

Mirilax is great but you shouldn't take it daily-per my doctor.. I have taken it to get the relief to soften but ...(TMI) if it has been awhile you are going to be hard until that is passed then it will get it sofer.. Afterward I take 1 tablespoon of benefiber twice a day. I mix it with my protein shake or with water or anything.

I had my sleeve in April and purchased some things that I no longer have a taste for. Some of the items are protein shots, liquid protein, an extra large bottle of Biotene, etc. I want to pay it forward and send it to whomever needs it. Send me a message if you could use it. Just Started Soft Foods And I Feel Like I Screw Up Everytime I Eat!
Puppies4us110 replied to LTARLTON's topic in Food and Nutrition
Also I put smooth PB in my protein shakes with a half of a small banana with no problems. I was sleeved 4/24/12. Only problems I'm having are with puréed foods too thick or spicy. -
Just Started Soft Foods And I Feel Like I Screw Up Everytime I Eat!
Mews replied to LTARLTON's topic in Food and Nutrition
Don't worry if you can't eat 1/4 cup of food. Your stomach is still swollen from the surgery. My NUT told me not to worry about protein for the first month or do. Instead focus on your fluid intake. If you can't get in all the protein don't fret. If you're still getting nauseous then fall back to liquids for a bit. Remember you are still healing. -
So first off, if it were me (from my RD), drop the notion of "hitting all your calories." Instead focus on hitting your fluid goals, protein goals, vitamin/mineral goals (all of these are MANDATORY at your juncture). All liquids (in addition protein drinks) add up and are combined to help you meet your fluid goal. And the protein drinks also help you hit your protein goal too. My RD said she still has patients 1-2 years out drinking a shake per day. Well, I can tell you what I ate around your time so it's a little more of apples and apples. Hang on lemme go get that information.

They have them here at Bariatric Pal, protein gummies. They are just relatively high cal vs. protein content

You can google bariatric friendly recipes. I still get in foods ruts at four years out. This is a long term sustainable way of eating and still is flavorful. I think the fear and questioning if you are doing this right is normal. It gets easier as food becomes habit. Beef, chicken, seafood, dairy and eggs. Hundreds of options to cook them. I do fajitas no tortilla, Smoked salmon salad, bariatric pizza (my goto) eggplant as lasagna layer instead of noodles. Experiment to find what you like. Below is my dieticians recipe page for food ideas. Make sure they fit your plan. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ Are you logging your food in a food app? I use myfitness pal. My food diary is open https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfitnesspal.android&hl=en_US My username is fit_chickx https://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/fit_chickx

I don't have celiac, but I am gluten intolerant - get really sick and have rashes when I eat it. I've found my post op diet really excludes most gluten containing foods already. I focus on my proteins, fruits, and veggies and don't eat starches.

Help me please! I continue to gain weight!
VSG AJH replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Lisa -- what about thinking of some replacements for these triggers? Maybe replace the separate cups of coffee and Protein drinks with protein coffee? I drink Click, and there's another called Chike. They're tasty on their own, but you can blend in sugar-free creamers or flavors to make it taste more like an indulgent drink. If you combine the coffee drink and Protein Drinks, reducing your overall quantity in a day, you reduce your calorie intake. As for the fudgecicles, perhaps switch to diet hot chocolate? One packet is 20-25 calories, and you still get that chocolate flavor. If it's the Popsicle you want, maybe switch to 10 calorie sugar-free Popsicles. I agree with others that you need to take a hard look at this before it gets too out of hand, and while you should have grace for yourself, you should not allow your husband's passing to cause you to make excuses when it comes to your health and eating. Counseling is a great idea, but I've also been very helped by a local GriefShare class. New semesters will start in January. Take one day at a time, and perhaps begin tracking again so you can keep those liquid and snack calories in check. -

try adding in more protein..go talk to a therapist. you can do this. first step always the hardest. after the ice is broken it will hopfully get better. clean out cabinets. food is being used for comfort which you already no that...get you some sf treats. I have been drinking some of the lil high protein shots..there not bad in taste. throw out the processed sugars..breads..etc. you must be drinking some really high cal coffees...I drink coffee every morning an during the days hot tea or ice tea but I have stevia in the house an I use the dairy/soy free coconut creamer french vanilla flavor..sugar free syrups..if I need the extra creamy stuff I get the real deal in the tall can..its got less then 1 sugar..I can afford to use it. when your in distress like this I totally get it. by making the needed changes again you can get your life back on track and maybe think of doing this for the both of you...he would want the best for you. maybe get out take a walk in the fresh air if weather permitting. call up a friend. get support. you need it. I no for me I no this isnt a spiritual forum..but I am one who fully relies on my creator..prayer ...some do some dont.,,he is always there for those who believe. I hope you can get some comfort in an alternative way instead of using the carbs..which is what your brain is craving..you know as well as I do the body craves the brain release of the feel good drugs...its hooked again...turn it around! -
HELP!!!!!!! WAY OVERWHELMED WITH INFO BUT NOT ENOUGH SPECIFICS TO BE VERY SCARY!!!!
54Shirley replied to tartertwo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would do the standard high protein, Low Carb. diet. 800-1200 calories a day, 60-80 Gof protein a day. Your surgeon will tell you what he wants you to do. I would listen to him. -
Hey! I'm 8 weeks and can't get the protein in without the help of sakes, which are sooo gross!! I'm starting to eat salmon for Breakfast to start off with a few extra. Most people have recommended unflavored protein and put it in cottage cheese, Soup or pudding etc. it will help you double up. I'm not a big meat eater, so I'm working on alternative ways like Beans to get protein.
