    Hip Issues?

I’m sure it isn’t surgery related. It could be arthritis or if you are saying it feels like it’s dislocating maybe you have loose tendons. Let us know what your Doc says

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Oh goodness wrinkly skin update: Today I tried out a higher level Pilates class and for the most part I don’t regret the decision. I was pushed to do a few things and did them (if not as elegantly as some of my thinner classmates). I did have an amusing-not-so-amusing moment when I was doing some side planks and got distracted by the wrinkly skin on the inside of my upper arm! I was like “holy moly that skin makes me look old, but look at all that loose skin!”

    February 2019 weight loss buds

The mind has to catch up to the body I suppose . Had RNY surgery February 4th and did the liver shrinking diet 2 weeks before , all in all I’ve lost 66 lbs. and have been feeling great. Just a few minor issues but over all I regret NOTHING. Last night thoooough.. had just a little pity party for myself with the jiggly bits and wrinkly parts getting ready to go out with hubby . I have to realize I have 40lbs to go but I’m WAY past half way and I am not 16 anymore, or 29, or 40.. and I’m going to have some extra skin.. weight training soon and hey , I said before .. if ya can’t tone it , tan it.. Jergen’s self tanner and bronzer in one that is.. only down fall, that craps messy as hell.. anyhoo, you are all my sunshine and I wish you all happiness. Health and great success on you’re journeys!
  4. Hey !Silver Fox Dudes, ready to try. it out, if you can keep from laughing at my formerly fat skin areas. And when I lay down you don't need to play anthropologist and go excavating, it's there and handy! I have turned from Shrinking Violet to Geranium, blooming all over and not one of my blooms needs Deadheaded!
  5. ***UPDATE ON NAILS*** It’s been a little over a month and my nails are doing ssooooo much better! Still not at 100% perfect maybe 90% better, but they are definitely growing again. Not long movie star nails, but out a few millimeters past the finger tip and no longer sore and ripping and tearing! I eat or drink sugar free jello every day for the gelatin that’s supposed to help nails. I have the collagen peptides in smoothies 5 times a week. And I also take the hair, skin, and nails vitamin every day now. Between the 3 it has fixed my nails and less hair is falling out now too. The biotin vitamin I was taking since after surgery was worthless in my opinion.
  6. Sex is sooooo much better when I'm thinner. And even with looser skin, I am waaaay hotter than when I was obese. And not just because I am thinner, but because I am more CONFIDENT and sure of myself, and the weight loss was a big part in re-cultivating that. You are really worried about how you will feel/look after weight loss (I notice this is your second post on the topic ♥️). But are you happy with your situation right now? I'm guessing that you aren't since you are moving forward with the surgery. Change is scary. But if you put in the effort, it will totally be worth it. 100%. ♥️

When was your surgery date and how much have you lost so far? Any non scale victories? Just curious I love reading everyone accomplishments. I had my surgery March 27,2019 so I’m just over two months out. My highest weight was 330lbs I lost about 46lbs before surgery so I was around 284lbs the day of surgery. Just weighed in this morning and was 238.8lbs. So I’m 8.8lbs from loosing a total of 100lbs. I’ve lost around 46 lbs after surgery. Feeling so much better! All of my clothes are to big and the clothes I’ve had since high school(hoping I’d be able to fit into them eventually) fit perfectly some are a lil snug but that hopefully won’t be an issue for to long. I’ve had some personal non scale victories like I was able to move my tummy back a little and actually see my below area to shave WITHOUT doing awkward positions with a mirror 😂. I can sit on the couch with my knees to my chest. I was able to actually have sex without having pains in my chest from all the pressure from the fat. With that being said my sex drive is FINALLY back. And I am starting to be able to see my feet again. I can walk more without being out of breath I still get sweaty easily when walking outside but that’s not a big issue. I haven’t had to take my diabetes medicines since leaving the hospital and about a month ago I got taken off my blood pressure medicines. Since being taken off my bp meds my heart rate gets high quickly they said I need to retrain my heart muscles since it didn’t have to work to hard with the beta blockers for the 4-5 years I was on it. I haven’t taken my anxiety/depression meds since surgery either.
  8. Don’t worry about it! Whoever is gonna love you will love you anyway. I didn’t get my surgery yet and I’m also a little bit concerned about loose skin. Some insurance pay for plastic surgery when your weight stabilized after Bariatric surgery. Do it for you, you will feel great and will irradiate that.
  9. I have a rather uncomfortable question. Please don't judge me for asking. If anyone is comfortable answering, I'm curious: how has the surgery affected your...romantic life? If you have loose skin, saggy breasts, thin hair, etc. is it hard to be... intimate? I'm really sorry for asking this question. I've been single my whole life, never been intimate with anyone and really want to get married and have a family. That's one of my motivations for getting the surgery. Although I've had some dates here and there, I've never been intimate with anyone before because I was afraid of what they'd think of me when they saw me (if you get my drift) for the first time. That being said, at first I was really excited about the surgery (and am still going through with it) but recently, I'm kind of feeling nervous at the prospect of getting loose skin, deflated boobs and losing my hair. Again, I'm sorry for the uncomfortable question. I do sincerely appreciate any response.
  10. Now for the physical part... I have six incisions -- five on my belly (sleeve) and one just below my left breast (hiatal hernia repair). All were closed using surgical glue. It's a purple glue, so it looks like I'm completely bruised up in those areas but I'm not. Five of the six are fine, no pain, no itching. One of them, and I presume it was the one where most of the surgical activity took place, is sore as hell. Burns, stings, very uncomfortable. There are no signs of infection, and when I called the doctor he said it was just the nerve endings expressing their discomfort at being severed. I am using lidocaine patches (Icy Hot) around the incision but not on the incision itself. It helps some. I also wear an abdominal binder. It keeps anything from rubbing the sites, but it starts to annoy the skin after a while so I am taking it off every few hours and letting my belly hang out to breathe. I can walk easily with no assistance, and getting in and out of chairs, bed, is easier each day. I have to remember to use my legs and elbows for leverage. Stairs are not a problem. But the more I walk, the more that one incision bothers me and I must lie down without moving for 10-15 mins before it goes away. Other than that, I feel pretty good. No vomiting or dumping. I had my first BM this morning with no issues. A little gas here and there, but not as much as I had expected. I'm not getting enough sleep. I stopped the prescription pain meds and just use liquid Tylenol (PM at bedtime) and the anti-cramping pills. When it wears off, I wake up. I usually fall asleep on my back, then shift to a side or stomach position. I can't do that now, so I stay awake and try to nap during the day to make up sleep.
  11. Hair situation is temporary. No one goes under the knife lifelong. you’re being a bit dramatic. We get it, the loose skin is an unknown factor. It’s a bit unnerving to think about. The choice is yours if you want plastics. For vanity sake what photo looks better to you? I'll take my loose skin, saggy boob and butt on the right. Never expected to be a bikini model after weight loss surgery. My skin is livable.
  12. Hair loss - for most its unavoidable but it is temporary Saggy breasts and loose skin - THATS A BADGE OF HONOR. You have to get there first and successfully lose the weight and keep it off. Plastic surgery is the only way to deal with loose skin and its up to you whether it bothers you enough to spend the thousands of dollars on it. Insurance doesn't cover plastic surgery. Sometime the loose skin causes rashes and pain and then you can try to get insurance to cover it. Start saving now if you think you'll need plastics. $10 a day for 3 years should get you over $10K saved to afford something like a tummy tuck.

    June 2019 challenge

#1 it is 8:30 AM on June the First. And am I mentally ready for a new month? Nope- it may be a new month but it seems like same old, same old. My right shoulder is c4amping pretty badly, this is from the surgery on April 4th, the one where I went to have my support hardware from my humerus FX 9 years ago removed, nobody warned me that my fat loss would occur in my upper arm alsom Well it got inflamed internally from things bring loose enough to rock back i& forth, Okay I went to surgical La La land thinking that was all being done. Woke up to find out my Orthopaedic, Dr Doolittle, who I normally like/respect had decided to repair my rotator cuff as well,,he rationalized" She's asleep anyway, I'll have to bring her back. in a couple months to repair it. While I have this lovely incision open, hmmmn!" The mental state I'm in today? Beset- upon!!! I also am fighting my obstitnate 💩. I spent last evening trying to get relief, oh some would pass, but I was trying so hard it was making me vomit also. A miserable time had by all, finally my son shows up with the liquid Ducolax- it says relief as soon as 30 minutes- as long as 6 hours. I didn't care but took a healthy dose followed by 8 oz water in my usual 2 per drink, didn't want to lose the Ducolax. Well relief did not come to in a half-hour, hour, 2 hours so finally I rationalize maybe going to sleep would make everything relax, put on an adult pull-up just in case something started before I could travel to the Bathroom. Nope I awoke to no cramps, no extrusion, tried again, small amount came, not as painful, but still no sense of release and relief. 50-50 chance when my son arises we will take a little trip to the ER for my Milk and Molasses Enema. And no I do not find much enjoyment, but I have stayed away for a month, maybe they won't MIND as much as I WILL And then perhaps my Sunny Disposition will return! Because basically I was looking forward to a New Month, New NSV, continuing weight loss and feeling good enough to mentor others instead of whining like a 🐕 left out in the cold. And if this is what I need done, there is always a Constipation thread or 2 to report back on, right?

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I hope all of us are starting to feel pretty good at 3 months (or a little more). I have not been counting carbs, fat, or calories because I really don't feel like I'm eating that much of a variety of foods that are dense in any of those. I am losing about 1-2 lbs per week but losing inches faster than I thought. My lab work was all great when I had it checked recently, but my thyroid levels were low. My endocrinologist told me not to take my Synthroid within 4 hours of taking any vitamins so I need to change the timing of taking my meds. I have been feeling more tired in the evenings and not sleeping as soundly at night. I am also getting a lot of gas pains on my left side that are annoying me. My other gripe is lower back pain. Seems to be worse lately. I've heard a lot of folks have tailbone pain after the surgery. I need to drink more...it's so easy to forget to make myself do that. Overall, though, I feel pretty good. Just wanted to share the way I'm feeling physically at this stage.... What kinds of foods are y'all in a routine of eating? Anyone still having issues keeping food down? I know some of you have been really battling that. I am really noticing the changes in the way my body feels. I definitely need stronger bras to hold the girls up and I can grab skin on my thighs and arms that feel loose. I am loving the weight loss, but gravity is not being kind. My chicken wings on my arms are annoying and I'm wondering if lifting weights will do anything at all. Has anyone noticed that added arm muscle helps with the chicken wings?
  15. Saggy Breasts? CHECK! Hair Loss? CHECK! Loose skin? CHECK! I knew ahead of time that these side effects were an inevitable part of rapid weight loss, so I was pretty much prepared for when eventually happened. Like @Diana_in_Philly said above, my boobs were already gravity-affected, so they didn't really sag much more, only deflated, nothing a good bra doesn't take care of. In all honesty, I do sort of miss some of the size (so does Mr.), but I wouldn't trade my smaller boobs for more fat. Neither would Mr. I'm way healthier now. The hair falling out freaked me out at first, but then I just chopped all my hair off into a pixie cut, which I wouldn't have been able to rock with my former bigger face. I love my hair now As for the loose skin, I am giving into my vanity and getting plastic surgery. For my arms and most likely my tummy. I could probably live with my stomach, its not so bad, really, but the arms are non-negotiable, which I hated even when I was obese. I have "un-firm" thighs and neck too, but I don't hate them enough to knife 'em out. You need to figure out what's important to you, but really, the ultimate goal would be to get healthy and live longer, right? Even if you aren't as firm and have less hair for a while?
  16. I'm 28, had my sleeve done last year when I was 27. 7.5 months out...I had a lot of hair to begin with and have experienced hair loss, so it's not too noticeable for me. I also started to lighten my hair as having darker hair you can see your scalp more. I have lost nearly 140lbs and do have sagging breasts (went from a 42F to a 34 DDD) and sagging skin on my belly, thighs and a teeeeeny bit on my arms. I feel like if you have stretch marks, wherever those areas are, they don't seem to recover as well as other parts (my experience). I've posted about this before though, it all depends on your genes...I have very sensitive skin and scar easily. Some people have hair loss, some don't, some people have sagging skin and others snap right back. At the end of the day, I chose to improve my health and expand my wardrobe and live with saggy breasts and skin...I want to fix it eventually but, am in no hurry. Reach out to me directly if you have any questions too! I know sometimes it can be hard to post in a public forum. I attached pictures of my belly and thighs and then a picture of me today. No spanks, no special bra (one of those new lounge bras by PINK), no control top leggings just me today. It's easily covered up. Everyone's different. Hope I've helped and not scared you, but I can tell you 1000% it was worth it for me. Best of luck on your journey!!!!
  17. I didn't lose any hair. Most people do, but for the vast majority, they're the only ones who notice it. as for saggy skin, yep - very common. Although if you ask most vets, they'll say that they'd take their saggy skin ANY DAY over being morbidly obese. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I wasted one brain cell worrying about it. i am SO much happier now that i'm normal weight!!! Plus, for most people, it's pretty easy to hide - you'll likely be the only one who knows it's there (other than your partner and doctor!)
  18. "For instance, loose skin, saggy breasts and Hair loss. Has anyone ever experienced any of these and if so, how did you deal with it? Is there anyway at all to prevent these things from happening?" Hair loss - happens as your body reacts to the extreme quick weight loss. It goes on for a couple of months and then it stops and your hair comes back. I don't know anyone who has avoided it. It's temporary. You don't say if you have kids, but if you do, your boobs already sag. Will this make them sag more? Yep. Any way to avoid it. Stay fat. But if you are going to have surgery, nope. As for loose skin, that depends on many things - age, ethnicity, skin condition, amount of weight loss. I have some flab flapping around, but I lost 150 pounds. I wear those flaps like a badge of honor. I haven't had plastics. I'm about 3 years out from surgery and the mother of a 19 year old and a 16 year old. My boobs would have been sagging anyway because - GRAVITY. So, you don't need to go under the knife again. Get your head in the right place about why you are losing your weight. Adopt the plan early and exercise to the extent you can now. Best of luck.
  19. Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum. I just recently started my WLS journey and find myself having more and more questions each day. My name is Kiley. I'm 29 (soon to be 30 in August), and hail from Ohio. This coming week I attend my first support group but would like to get a head start on speaking with those who've already had the surgery or like myself, are in the pre-op period. You know, it's a funny thing. I'm feeling pretty confident about the surgery itself, but the aftermath is what I'm concerned about. For instance, loose skin, saggy breasts and hair loss. Has anyone ever experienced any of these and if so, how did you deal with it? Is there anyway at all to prevent these things from happening? I really don't want to spend the rest of my life going under the knife. Any help is appreciated! I hate to sound vain by asking these questions but alas, I can't help it, lol. :/

    Is lap band that bad?

I am more excited than nervous. I have never been much o a sweets lover...im more of a salty gal lol My Dr required me to loose about 10% of my weight before surgery. i was 255lbs, she wanted me to be at 230 by surgery. I am now 223lbs. I think i am calm since its been a process to get here. Today is day 3 of my liquid diet...not gonna lie, its a challenge. But i know it will be worth it.
  21. Did you expressed your feelings to him. It looks like his heart was in the right place. I don't have a Walmart in my area but from what I've seen online they have beautiful dresses. Sometimes in life we have to embrace the present. Unfortunately we cannot go back in the past or live in the shadows of our skinny past. You will have your surgery and loose a lot of weight, but in the mean time we have to live for today.

I've lost 53# since surgery and 94# since beginning the program. I have about 55# to go to goal. Down to a size 16 from a 24. Shopping a lot at Goodwill and the like. Feeling pretty good, but having to closely monitor my blood pressure so they can adequately wean me off BP meds. Have lots of sagging skin on arms, belly and breasts. Have rash under pannus which has been documented by PCP and prescribed nystatin cream. Frequenting the gym 5 days a week. Feeling pretty good overall. Can tolerate most foods I've tried. Peanut butter is a no go. Peanut powder though is ok. In about 2 weeks I'll be at 3 months post op. Time flies.

Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey

My life has changed drastically since my surgery almost a year ago. I still suffer from body disphoria in that I still see myself as a fat person. I still look for clothing in the plus size sections. I keep thinking that I'll need a few extra "fat uniforms." Wearing a mere XL is still unfamiliar territory. I still seek out the loose, baggy look with arm holes too big and my garment sliding off my shoulder. I continue to wear long dresses. I have not worn jeans or any style of pants for years. I don't see myself wearing pants again until I reach my goal weight, even then I see myself wearing a long tunic style top to cover my butt and legs. I'm not sure if I view this as modesty or as a continuation of fat-shaming myself. I continue to be proud of myself but this is a little hill that I still have to climb. I'm being patient with myself. I know it takes longer for some people to come to terms with their "new body." The other day someone said to me (rude when I recall it now), "I didn't know that you had a neck."

Came back for some advice which I found very quickly. This board is such a great resource. Down 56 from 3/26, Diabetes in full remission and no longer on meds, BP way down, Sleep Apnea pretty much gone. 3 pant sizes so far and 14 pounds to goal. Not too much skin flab but noticeable muscle loss, along with the fat. Working on this. Also, I live at 9000ft elevation so I can get a bit dizzy. Well done to all the Marchers! Just think how very many are inspired by your stories and don't leave a comment. They are out there!

Now I'm off to research this treatment and see where its offered in my area! (Man, losing weight hurts the wallet! New clothes, shoes, makeup products, plastic surgery, facial/skin treatments...yikes.)
