    Syntrax Nectar Experts?

I love the fruity syntrax nectar flavors! Crystal sky, twisted cherry, roadside lemonade, and strawberry kiwi are my favorites. I like that they are just a flat 100 calories per scoop with water. They do foam up a bit after shaking but I usually let them settle for 5-10 minutes before I start drinking. I can't stand the milky protein shakes anymore since post op so I can't suggest those. I want to try the fuzzy navel one but it's always sold out! ☹️
  2. Syntrax Nectar in chocolate truffle is the only one I have tried. I just tried it for the first time last month because of the recent rave reviews. I was surprised but I love it. I put it in my coffee. It is not that sweet and mixes so well. I've been thinking of getting the lemonade one but I don't use a whole lot of protein powder these days so I probably will wait.
  3. I’m wanting to use this with juice. I’m only 2 weeks post-op, and finding premade shakes I like is hard. I was thinking I could mix this is some juice and help to get my protein in? Any suggestions

Looking for a November surgery pal

I am in the two weeks liquid faze also and am dreaming about the puréed stage. I can’t stand the protein drinks but I am drinking them for my health. Cheese would be great right now

Looking for a November surgery pal

Gastric Bypass on the 8th. Glad to hear you have to stay on liquids only one week! Mine is 2 weeks 😩 The swelling and bloating caught me by surprise. I didn't realize how big my belly would get! Then after 2 days it stayed swelled but sunk big time with gravity. Felt like I was carring a pouch of melting jello. Now completed day 6 and the swelling is down about 80%. I can actually reach in and feel my ab muscles again. I too was lethargic but kind of expecting that after surgery. I did my little walks but other than that I did exactly what I planned to do for the first 3-4 days: Nothing. Geting energy back now a little each day. Keeping up with the fluids and protein but am totally sick of protein shakes. Unfortunetly, I am stuck with this liquid diet for 9 more days. I was getting too obsessive with an intake schedule and worrying about counting ounces. Now I just eyeball it and go with the flow. Not hungry BUT would love to have taste of asiago cheese right now. Speaking of that, someone should make Sugar Free Jello with a cheesburger flavor 😁

    Snacking at night…

Brushing my teeth sometimes works, but when it doesn't I'll grab one serving of turkey slices (with good flavoring so they're more satisfying) & that usually gets rid of the cravings for me. Also someone here recommended frozen chicken strips (grilled) & I've been loving those for a quick hot protein snack. Just a few satisfy that need to just EAT something for me. Quest Double Chocolate Chunk protein bar is soooo good & VERY filling! my main advice is to stick to protein based snacks. Grab one serving, put the rest away & enjoy. Guilt-less snacking is definitely possible!

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi everyone! First post here...was too loopy before surgery on the liver-shrinking diet to post, but I'm drinking protein now, and have my wits about me (somewhat)...today has been rough, not sure if I'm withdrawing from Percocet but I've been tired and headachey. I also have to remember I have autoimmune arthritis, so this all can't be any picnic in terms of mixing that with the last six days... Had RNY gastric bypass done last Monday here in NYC at Mount Sinai St. Luke's. Everything went great. I got home Tuesday afternoon. Not a ton of pain but a lot of soreness around the midsection that made it tough to sleep, so took Percocet at night to help with that. Ran out last night, so also must keep that in mind, re: cranky- and out-of-sorts-ness. *Trigger Warning* Eating disorders... I went through the food dream "phase" (hoping it is just a phase, LOL), and also had weird thoughts today -- straight up addict thoughts -- like, what if I eat my favorite ice cream bar, bite by bite, chew by chew, and just spit it out down the garbage disposal? That way I'm not causing any trouble... Having been in alcohol recovery some time, I know that thinking to be downright insane. I have purged / restricted in my life, but that would be pretty blatant bulimia! Glad I could share that, and hope I haven't triggered anyone too badly. Anyway, I did this from a place of seeking health, taking stress off my back (which was fused after a slipped disc last year), reducing the autoimmune pain, reducing anxiety about being seen in public, as my weight spiraled out of control due to poor stress management through emotional eating. Cosmetics were last on the list, really just a bonus. Anyway, this forum is amazing, and hope to read more of you soon.

7th day of preop diet, it has become easier. I had my husband's birthday party and I cooked everything without tasting it lol. Only negative thing was having some steak instead of my lean protein, but otherwise following it to the T. Getting excited! 8 more days! Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Snacking at night…

THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!! I am so down on myself the last month has been horrible in many aspects of my life and not in my control. Lost my job etc so I’m a stress eater and have gained 4 lbs back in a month! I feel like a massive failure and so depressed. I have an appointment with a therapist Tuesday but finding it hard to find someone that understands what we have been through on this journey. So thank you for posting about the protein snacks at night. I was back to eating junk and could easily have been eating protein items! 💕. Ps I’m new on here so I hope I have posted in the right spot!

    VSG to DS coming soon!!

I’m definitely going to eat more protein & limit my carbs. Eating my protein 1st has always been an issue for me, but I started doing that 2 months ago so it won’t be so hard for me going forward. Any additional advice??
  11. because I like to over share sometimes (lol) and just give people a window into a true reality of a very large persons journey struggling with bad habits, eating disorder, anxiety depression etc….… I have decided to show a general weight progression for my weight loss journey so far….it has been far from drops all the time, even when I was doing the right thing! My high weight was July 2021 when I tipped the scales at 456. I am starting the rest of my story in January 2022. I was taking Ryselbus for a bit and was back down to 440. It was at this time that I doubled down to start doing the mental work on my stress eating, emotional eating, binge eating and other disordered eating which had gotten me pretty immobile and huge. During feb, march and April I avoided the scale, focusing on my relationship with food, the triggers contained in my relationship with other people who had made me turn to binging and life in general. Also in some changes in portion size and being able to stop when full (which was hard for me) but April 24th I stepped on the scale and was 426. I felt like I had made progress on me for the first time in a long time. May 8th I was gradually down to 421, then my body did the first drop on may 9th (which I have learned is normal pattern for me) to 414.6 I went up about two pounds and down about two pounds for another couple weeks until finally dropping so to 405.6 May 27th. June I really worked hard on dealing with fast food addiction and some very deep emotional hurts along with work stress and financial stress. My weight varied from 412.6 down (yep, gained!) to 403 at the end of the month. I was gaining, I was loosing, I was struggling to eat better and not loose my head to anxiety and other emotions. Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost. The whole month tracks up and down and up and down until I started to find my way towards the end of the month and the struggle became easier. June 30th saw my surgeon for first consult. I was 403.2 that morning on my scale July 4th I celebrated my own independence by leaving 400s with 399.6… I had started doing a lot of portion control and making healthier choices. Had nearly eliminated fast food. You would think I would be on a better path, but no, my body was still going to frustrate me. Even though I was eating a consistent diet, my weight decided to go on a joy ride and spiked back past 400 to 411.8. I was devastated and disheartened. How could I gain when my calories were in control and I was not eating much junk??? Emotionally I struggled and dug deeper into my past, my present and what I wanted for my future. I made some emotional breakthroughs and slowly the scale slid down, leaving the month at 396.4 Then August 3rd, 399.9 lbs, my nutritionist appt where I got my surgical guidelines and it threw me for a loop. I was told three weeks of either 1) 4 protein shakes a day and a light meal of lean protein and steamed veggies or 2) 50 total carbs a day….. that morning I had what I thought of a healthy smoothie breakfast with split pea (protein/fiber), berries and a banana with ice… I did the math on the carbs. It was 108 for my breakfast… could I do this?? with my struggles with disordered eating I knew I needed baby steps to get used to anything. Carb counting seemed to give me more variety and feeling of control. I started tracking all foods and reducing my cab count throughout Aug….. a miracle happened to my body as my mind relaxed with the guidelines given to me. The weight fluctuated, but trended truly down. I ended august at 376.3 by September I was (mostly) living with 50 carbs a day.. reading all labels and looking up food, paying attention to portion. Funny thing is my calories only dropped about 200 from my pre carb counting diet, but I was even more stringent with what I would consume… I was ready for my surgery when my surgeon was finally able to schedule ! By making my new habits my new normal, I was down to 365.6 at the end of September. A few hiccups delayed my surgery scheduling (mostly an uncommon complicated insurance issue ) but I kept moving with my new normal… I finally got my date of Nov 3rd, so October was go time. The time to double down and follow things to a T so I could be in the best shape for surgery. My body wasn’t as cooperative even with me doing right as I hoped, but with perseverance I dropped more weight. During the last week in October with changing nothing I went from 362 to 353. My body just finally released the weight… surgery day 351.4 ! Will do a post op so far in a bit…

    Sleeve to DS

If you have any indications of GERD a surgery will likely not suggest DS but RNY. Before you go that route, have you asked your team what else can be done? Ask about other (nutritionist, pharmacological) options.

    Snacking at night…

I agree with the suggestions to distract yourself, clean tired teeth & snack on your leftover dinner, a protein or nutrient dense food. You can try having something to drink too - water, warm milk, a herbal/green tea. And, yes, most traditional late night snacking foods are nutrient poor sliders which are easy to overeat. I’d also ask myself why I want to snack. Is it an old habit, an emotional need, are you craving a specific food, flavour or texture? These are all head hungers not real hungers. Recognising them & discovering what to do to manage them is part of our weight loss process. Not easy but worth the effort. If only the surgery removed that part of our brain too. PS - try not to eat too close to going to bed (leave a couple of hours) especially if you’re eating a dense protein like meat as it can cause GERD symptoms.

I have my surgery on November 28th in Las Vegas, Nevada. I start the liquid pre op on Monday Nov 14th. I just started getting all my shipments of protein shakes, protein drinks, stocked up on sugar free jello and popsicles. Cleaned out my refrigerator and gave all my meat etc that i had in the freezer to a friend. I am not leaving anything to chance LOL.. let my family know I won't be at thanksgiving this year to avoid temptation!

    Food intolerance after wls

You are dehydrated, as the others have said. You can skip the protein drinks if you cannot tolerate them, but you must consume water. Try simple, room-temperature water first; many people initially experience discomfort from cold beverages. The really cold water made my pouch uncomfortable for a bit after my https://www.intolerancelab.co.uk/food-intolerance-test/. Your complaining about poor taste is another issue that worries me. You might wish to get tested for Thrush, even though this might also be a sign of dehydration. It is a yeast infection that can cause food to taste off. Additionally, most protein shakes contain dairy.

Got my gastric bypass on Nov 4. Doing really good, but tire easily. Just started on pureed foods. SO made me chicken with peas & carrots. Looked like baby poop, but tasted delicious! Lost 12 pounds since surgery day. Glad to be able to have my protein shakes again! A good friend of mine who had a bypass done just over a year ago, can't believe I haven't experienced dumping syndrome yet. Keeping my fingers crossed, but very careful with how I am adding food into my diet. Hope all is going well with my early Nov surgery buddies!!
  18. I like trying different food from all over the world. I ate this golden egg today. 60 calories, 59 grams of contents. It was an egg restuffed with seasoned duck egg in rice. You boil it for 20 minutes then eat it with a tiny spoon included in the package. Not too sweet not too salty but savory. Like a riceball with egg in the center. One of the most interesting things I have ever tried.

    Snacking at night…

If I have a meat and veg/ salad type meal for my evening meal, I will go back to it and finish it later. I have still no room for potato, rice or pasta but love veg so I recon its ok and helps get my protein in. Later I will have a sugar free ice lolly. If I am hungry 2 hours before bedtime, 10pm, I will have either milk, protein pudding or cheese and fruit to help once more with my protein levels. My calories are still low, so my team say its ok

    Snacking at night…

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the snack items. I need to re-focus on getting all my protein in as I’ve kind of slacked on that lately. It was hard getting 100+ grams of protein a day before surgery, much less now after surgery. I just need to settle back into things and not forget why I had this surgery done in the first place.
  21. Surgery we’d I got my water and protein 64 /80 first day . Maybe to fast been totally full uuable to take anything in all day no gas and sick to my stomach all day. How long before first bowel movements

How long did you drink protein shakes after bypass?

I'm almost four months post op and I still have two shakes per day in the form of proffees. I can't afford to stop them. I hit higher protein goals because I do cardio/strength training five days per week and I couldn't eat that much protein from solid foods. As for vitamins, I will never stop taking them. My surgeon stressed how important it was to prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies by staying on top of my supplements, (and having regular blood tests) because once they occur it's much harder to bring the levels back up, so it's just not worth going against that medical advice. I trusted my surgeon enough to operate on my body, so surely I'm going to trust her advice on preventing V&D deficiencies so I will follow her advice forever. To the OP: I would say that life is probably easier for you post op in many ways after losing weight, the trade off is your guts have been rerouted, and you can't compromise on supplements and protein. Have you had your vitamin and minerals checked via blood test? Talk to your team and see if they approve these changes, take their advice firstly because they know your medical needs. Best wishes!

    Snacking at night…

Yeah, I was always a nighttime snacker. Now I use it to my advantage, I suppose. I save some of my calories/protein allotment for nighttime. I have yogurt or a proffee at night usually and sometimes I have fruit, it just depends on what I'm feeling that night. I think I consume more protein/calories than most do because I'm extremely active at the gym. Five days of cardio/strength, plus long trail rides on Saturdays. So snacking is fine for me as long as it's decent foods. What kind of snacks are you having? You say you feel like you can take in more during snacks than during meals? It's probably dependent upon the types of foods that you're eating. If you're having solid proteins like chicken, fish, etc during meals, they're more filling and fill you up fast. A lot of "snack foods" ie: chips, cookies, nuts, etc are slider foods so they slide right through your pouch, and you can consume more of those than protein dense foods.

    November 2022 surgery support!

I am now 4 days post op. The pain was originally my stomach itself, by yesterday i stopped feeling that pain and my larger incision...actually about 2 inches away from my larger incision has started hurting like crazy. I do find the sweetness of my protein shakes difficult but tolerate soups and broth really well. Constantly sipping at my water and nowhere near meeting that goal yet. Sent from my SM-F916U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. I am not plant based but I do eat nice amount of vegetarian substitutes for red meats! they still have a nice amount of protein. I like the brand Morning Star (I think some of the items are vegetarian & not vegan however)
