Revision approved!
BariatricBarb replied to ren0318's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just met with the surgeon today to discuss the reflux. I was sleeved in 2015 and did great initially. 5 months out and the reflux and pain started. Gall bladder removed, no help. Was unable to keep with the bariatric diet due to reflux, nausea, and vomiting. Have gained back most of the weight lost. It seems simple carbs, and never letting my stomach get empty is the way I have been surviving. Surgeon is pretty certain that revision will solve my problems. And he said this is a medical necessity and will happen sooner rather than later. They will be calling tomorrow to schedule. I'm anxious but excited. My life and health have revolved around this for so long. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. -
Sleeve to Bypass Revision
BariatricBarb replied to ashleyy_beckerr's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It's great to rad that revising sleeve to bypass has resulted in relief from the problems after sleeve. I was sleeved in 2015 and did well initially. Four months out, the pain and heartburn started. Had gallbladder removal with little to no relief. Here we are, three years later and the pain, nausea/vomiting, and GERD are what my whole life revolves around. Saw a new surgeon today and we are going ahead with revision to bypass. I feel excitement, hope, and anxiety at the same time. I'm wondering if anyone had any complications following revision. How recovery was different from the sleeve. Any advise you can give? -

I had my lap band placed over 10 years (when I was 57) and had left shoulder pain immediately after surgery. My clueless surgeon didn't know why. I had all the fill removed a year later. I got the left shoulder pain when I was eating and knew it was my stop signal. I switched to another surgeon who said the band can irritate the phrentic nerve and that could be the cause so I thought getting it removed would solve that problem. I have always hated the band for a variety of issues but getting stuck was the biggest. So fast forward to 16 days ago when I got it removed. I woke up with left shoulder pain and they said it was gas, etc. and it did improve until about 6 days ago when it got worse and is more of less constant. My surgeon (different from the first two) doesn't know why and said I should see a gastro, orthopedic or PCP. I also have developed a burning, greasy feeling in my throat that I didn't have prior to the removal. I have been on Nexium for many years. My surgeon said everything looked fine, no erosion, no hiatal hernia, as he also did an endoscopy. Has anyone had either of these problems and if so how were they resolved, if they were? Thank you.

Another high achiever! Kudos to you, too. In the same timeframe I'm down 75 lbs to your 126, so I hope you are celebrating your achievement with impunity! The holidays WERE wicked, and the winter weather does not cooperate with our intentions. I just got a treadmill, and am revising my daily routine to incorporate its use to my advantage. I've been trying to adapt some recipes to make protein cookies and protein granola for treats. It's all trial and error and ADVENTURE. Not a moment's regret for getting this surgery.

I am in the process of the same type process. I have been very successful with my sleeve, however the acid reflux is out of control. I have had every test known to man this last 2 months and I am FINALLY almost to the point to get my surgery date to revise me to RNY - I also am so so nervous. I don't specifically want to lose anymore weight, I am 5'6 and 143lbs, so I am happy with this and have maintained for well over a year. Do you suspect you would have more weight loss with the revision? I mean, in my mind I think that I probably wouldn't due to the fact I am at a healthy weight now and maintain a healthy diet. What are you thoughts? BEST of luck, and keep the updates coming ! -

What is recovery like? My surgeon says the surgery itself will take about 3-4 hours and she said she has her revision patients “take it slow”! Afterwards...

I’m on 2/20 also in Southern California, not on liquids until the day before surgery. Have to take milk of magnesia at noon and that’s about it. I am having my lapband taken out and revisioning to sleeve so hopefully all goes smooth! Good luck to you! Glad I found this website! -
Set Point, Reaching Ideal Weight, Staving off regain
Healthy_life2 replied to Kelise's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a sleeve. four1/2 year’s out. I maintain in the 130's. I give myself a ten-pound bounce range. when the scale moves up, I go back eating my bariatric food plan to stay in range. I'm in maintenance phase. I eat mainly clean, I do indulge occasionally. My third year, my weight got up to 147. (still a BMI 24.5 normal range) had to dial in my diet to lose the weight. I'm back in the 130's My two cents on regains. Weight gain can happen with any type of bariatric surgery. Some factors in regain: Complications from surgery Medical issues and medications pregnancy/menopause Not weighing yourself regularly Getting complaisant as the years pass You will reach a point that you noticeably can feel less restriction with the sleeve (it has not stretched) Just because you can consume more food, does not mean you should. Its important not to go over your calories and macros for the day. Stretching is rare. Get it diagnosed by your surgeon for a revision Eating around your surgery. Grazing is consistently eating sever small meals of healthy and unhealthy foods. The total will be over your calories and macros. It’s as if you never had surgery. You can eat 3000+calories. YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT Ask for help if you have a gain (surgeons office, dietician and counselling) - Easier to lose a 20 pound gain than a 40, 60, 80, 100+ -
Hi all. First post here! Long story short--I have a 10 year old lap band that I'm having nothing but trouble with. My doc said I could revise it to either a sleeve or bypass. Right now I have Aetna, but by the time I do the 6 month diet I will be on Medicare and the doc doesn't know if they cover revisions. Anyone out here have any experience with this? Thanks!

Had to reschedule my appointment with the surgeon
mrs_brontosaurus posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the seminar on December 6 and turned in my information packet. I got a call to schedule my intake appointment and couldn’t get in until February 5. Naturally, on February 2 me and my 7 month old came down with the flu. I’ve felt like complete garbage, but I thought I might be ok to go tomorrow. Then this morning my 5 year old woke up with a fever, chills, and cough. I had to reschedule and my new appointment is March 19. It’s really not that long, but I was really looking forward to this appointment and getting the ball rolling and now I had to restart my countdown app on my phone. I’m feeling very sorry for myself. Just needed to whine a bit. I guess I’ll spend the next 42 days revising my questions for the surgeon/psych/nutritionist and pinning my aspirational wardrobe on Pinterest. -
I am scheduled to have my lapband removed/revised to the VSG on February 20th. I have a two year daughter, Annabelle. Any tips/tricks on how to handle caring for her post-surgery? I am planning on having my husband take her to daycare for the time I am off work to recovery(approximately 9 days), but don't know how to handle when I am at home with her. I am sure that she will want to crawl on me and/or have me pick her up. How long after surgery before you were able to lift children?

I’m 21. I had the sleeve in June 2017 and revised to the bypass January 21st 2018. Three days after being sent home I felt amazing. Not in much pain at all. But I’ve been constantly hungry. I had string cheese , peanut butter, yogurt and protein shakes. Nothing makes me feel full. I’m now on stage three and I made 1 scrambled egg with three crackers and was able to eat it all, drink some water and not feel full. What’s wrong with me? I got full when I had the sleeve done and I was on stage 3. I feel like they didn’t do anything. Just went in and looked around then patched me up!!!

HI there. I am considering a revision form SVG to RNY. What all are you required to do pre-op? You have to do everything before you know if insurance will cover your procedure? DO you have any concerns/reservations?

So I am just over 5 months post op revision to Bypass and I am coming to a block/stall/halt..... whatever it may be in my weight loss. I only lost 2.6 lbs last month. I do great during the day but in the evening and night my cravings and hunger/head hunger are out of control, which makes me snack and crave sweets. But, I really think that the sugar free tea that I am drinking in the evenings is causing my cravings to be worse. I only have water during the day, but after work and at night I drink this tea (which I have a bit of an addiction to) It is sugar free, calorie free, carb free, but when I drink it I seen to have really bad cravings for sweets and sometimes salty snacks. I believe it has splenda in it. I don't know if it is the time of day that is my issues or the tea triggering an issue. So lord help me I am going to go cold turkey. No tea for one week and see what happens. I dearly love my sugar free tea so I am a bit panicked but I have to get the scale moving again!!!!!

How did your medications change post op? Did you have to increase the dosage because of malabsorption? I'm having a sleeve to bypass revision and am concerned about how my depression medication with absorb. Thanks!

Our @Matt Z is, unfortunately, very knowledgeable about this complication. "The Band had become totally encapsulated in scar tissue, it took my surgeon and her team more than 3 times longer to remove the band than what's normal. My 3-4 hour surgery, lasted over 6 hours. Who knows what would have happened if I didn't revise. The band is gone. My insides have been rearranged. And I'm working my way down to my goal. One day at a time. Surgery of this kind is always a bit scary. I had the band since 2010 and revised in 2015. I am pending RNY and working on getting mentally prepared for it. Andrew- so true about the clothing. Made many a run to the second hand stores around my surgeon's office as my size went up and down. Only kept 30 lbs off but I am down 3 sizes solid and 4 is a bit tight these days. With the band wide open, it is expected.

Had the band in 2010 revised 2015 and slipped again. Pending RNY revision and looking for buddies as well.

Need to meet my deductible and I am getting lap band revision to the RNY biomass.
