My PostOp diet for Preop people

These lists are really helpful BUT...remember to follow the pre- and post-op diets your surgeon gives you. There are things on that list my surgeon did not want me to use or have at 3-4 weeks, and other things that he definitely wanted that seem dicey from above (ie the Water...he said water is first/imperative, and I could drink it easily. It was no trouble getting 64 oz down, esp since I was to have it and not any other beverages like crystal light, coffee, etc) SO this is a great "guideline" but newbies please do what your doc says; if you're in doubt get clarification from your doc. They know what works best for "their" clientele and for you. :crying:
  2. They legally have to tell you all that most ppl don't experience any major problems although I will say it's an adjustment for sure it takes time to get used to and the first few weeks can be really hard and it feels like it won't get better but it really does I has a real emotional roller coaster ride I think partly because I felt so incredibly weak for a few weeks but once I got enough fluids and some meds adjusted and forced myself to get up and do things if just for a few mins here and there I started to feel so much better
  3. I am a little over 5 months out and have not really had a tough plateau yet. The longest was 4 days. They all stink though. Praying to not have one that lasts weeks until I.am at my goal
  4. I have had a few plateaus so far, but I have been hovering around at 90 pounds lost for the last few weeks. I am just over the 6th month mark now. I had my check up at the doctor's office and I decided I wanted to up the intensity of my exercises, add strength training and start planning low carb meals. I realize that to get to where I want which is still 110 pounds away, I'm going to have to work even harder now and really be disciplined to be successful long term. I will be successful!

    I hit the 2-year mark August 10th

I so enjoyed reading your story. Really an inspiration! I am 63 and got the band in May. I also stopped needing 3 of my 4 bp meds after about 2 months, and the last med was reduced in half; my cholestoral is now 101! I just broke a two-week plateau today. It was the first plateau since getting the band. I also experienced my first "being stuck" 2 days ago after my 2nd fill. Lasted about 40 minutes, so had to go back in to get a little taken out. Never want to do that again. Due to an out of the area emergency, I won't be able to attend my monthly lap band meeting on 'Tues-- where a doctor will be the guest speaker to talk about plastic surgery. Bummer! My stomach is already forming an apron and I am already disguested with it. So I know I will go for a TT, too. How much did it cost to get yours done? What all did it include? How bad was the pain? How long was the recovery? I look at my nude body and would like to be lypo-suctioned from my boobs to my knees! :-) Anyway, thanks so much for your story, and for anything you want to share further regarding your tummy tuck. Continued good luck!!
  6. Two years ago today, my husband of 20 years had a melt down and told me for the first time how much he hated my body and that our sex life was terrible because I was fat. This was the first time he had ever said anything and I was pissed, shocked, hurt and confused. I thought about walking out because it was such a bombshell, but over the next two weeks we got everything out in the open (including me telling him things that I had held back). We cried, we fought, we talked, we made some decisions. Although he could have handled it much differently, I couldn't deny that he was right....not to mention my health was going downhill. A month later, I had WLS, that was October 2011. A year later, I had lost 80 lbs and reached my goal weight. That was September 2012. I wrote a blog every Sunday for the first year. If you haven't read it and you want some inspiration, please go to www.queenofcrop.com I want to inspire those who aren't sure if they should do this, or might be struggling after the surgery. My life today is an extraordinary, amazing life. My health issues are gone, my husband and I have never been closer, our sex life is more than amazing, I feel younger and happier than I have in my entire life. I turn 60 in a few weeks. I feel 35. I think I look pretty good for 60. I'm happy. I am grateful.
  7. I'm a month out and still cannot even think of rolling onto my stomach because of port pain. I can FINALLY sleep on both sides, though I sometimes will get a twinge from my port in the readjusting. My doctor did not seem concerned by this though it was certainly not usual-- he had me in for a fill at two weeks post op (the normal time for his patients), but since I had the port pain issue-- not even side sleeping at that point-- he didn't give me a fill and put me off until next week. If mine were as bad as you're describing, I'd definitely call though. Are you stomach sleeping?
  8. Hi All, I was banded on July 9 and lost 25 pounds by my first post op appointment on Aug. 9. At that time my doc said he didn't want to do a fill because I was doing so well without it. Well I thought I would up the stakes and I started working out 5 days a week. I work three days with a personal trainer and two days I do Water aerobics. So since my doc appointment I haven't lost any weight at all. I've been tracking my calories and it seems I average about 1300 a day. Is that too much? Also, I can drink about 60 oz of water a day right now but I'm concerned that might not be enough either. Tomorrow I start school and I take glassblowing glasses so with our 90+ degree weather and the heat from the class I'm really worried about not getting in enough water. Before my surgery I would drink at least 72 oz of water in 4 hours during class because I would guzzle down a bottle at time. With the sip, sip, sip method I'm worried. Any suggestions? Thanks for the info and thanks to my exercise buddy Val for telling me about this website. Great info!
  9. I am scheduled for June 17 as well. I have already started as of April 29 changing my diet and experimenting with different protein supplements. My favorites so far (and trust me when I say I am very picky) is EAS Myoplex Lite in French Vanilla (not a fan of the chocolate drinks so far but my husband likes them) and ISOPURE (liquid form, have not tried the powdered form yet)..one bottle is 80 percent protein and it tastes pretty good...kinda reminds me of sugar free coolaid mixed with a wine cooler (haha)...Good LUck...By changin my diet and substituting the EAS drink for breakfast I have gotten my body (sorta) ready for the two week liquid diet and have grown a taste ... not to mention already dropped 11 pounds (in two weeks) and feel a lot less bloated...
  10. Please call your surgeon ASAP. Even if it is nothing bad, he can prescribe some pain killers. I had no pain but from what I've read here, most have no pain after a week, 2 at the most.
  11. Today's blog is a very real reflection of my journey so far...and it isn't all pretty. Find out what it was that lit this girl on fire this week at Life...With a Side of Carrie.

    Frequent business travelers - meals?

When I travel I keep Protein bars and fruit in my bag. There's lots of airport food I can eat if I choose to. I can eat almost anything. As for steakhouses, I always order the smallest filet or split the large one with my DH with a side of potatoes or green veggie. It won't be so hard after the first couple of weeks. You'll get in a groove.

    Begnin PVC'S/Arrhythmia

Hello all! I was recently diagnosed with frequent, yet benign PVC's. They've decided not to put me on meds because they're more of a health risk than the arrhythmia itself (!?!?!?!) I don't have my pre-op consult for two more weeks, and I am DYING to know if this will effect my eligability for banding. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance, bandsters!!!!

Please tell me it isn't my band....

I don't know if this will help you at all but: I got hives all over my body about six months after being banded. I had done nothing that wasn't normal in my everyday life; no new foods, beverages, soaps or anything else. Mine itched though. They lasted about two weeks and went away and I haven't had them again since then.
  15. Just let me start by saying UGH. I have been on this journey since January. Finally got the 6 months of medically supervised weight loss behind me. Insurance took a couple week to get the approval thru. Went and had my lab work done on Friday. My surgeon's office won't schedule the surgery until they receive the results of the blood work. I am just REALLY ready to get my new healthy life started. Maybe tomorrow will be the day it all comes together!!!

Hi I've been eating solid food for a week , however about 3hrs after eating my stomache gets really gurgly.I burp alot and have pain in my chest. Is this heartburn??? I have never suffered before. Also if I eat more than I should I'm fine. This doesn't bode well for portion control. Nicolek
  17. I was certain I wasn't going to meet my goal when I hit the stall 3 weeks ago.....my goal is to hit -50lbs by April 20. I have 4.2 lbs to go---c'mon fairy, do your work!!
  18. I'm about 4 weeks out and still have a little tenderness right around the bottom of my belly button. My doc said they same thing. It's the only soreness or tenderness I have anymore and it's a lot less than it was before.
  19. I had my surgery on tuesday oct 15th (2 weeks ago) and Today I went to my first follow up, the Dr and I were both very excited because I've lost 20lbs in two weeks! I'm super excited!!!! I start my second stage food (purée) tomorrow YAY!
  20. So a little over a year ago (1 yr and 12 days to be exact) I had my lap band procedure. Before the surgery I weighed in at 237, lost 20 as suggested by my surgeon and on surgery day weighed in at 217. The first few months were great! I went down to 203 lbs and then I stopped. I stopped getting my fills and eating very unhealthy! I gained it all back and three months ago found myself at 225! I couldn't believe it! So I decided to once again get on the wagon and close to three months now I am down to 191! The trick? I gave up Rice and Pasta, low on the oat grain bread and eating my small doses five times a day! Lots of fruits and veggies to keep me going. I also have learned thar Activitia low fat is my new best friend. I am getting my fills again- going for another next week - and I am exercising ! Walking, riding my bike, light toning up of my muscles and yoga. I now see myself getting closer to my goal weight and perhaps even surpassing it! I have gone from obese to overweight on my BMI - that to me already is a big deal!
  21. I had my vsg/gallbladder surgery on January 10th 2017 @ 2pm. I had a couple complications during surgery which required for me to have a laparoscopic AND open surgery. I woke up from surgery with a pain score of 20+. The pain was so serve that I just wanted to be knocked out the whole time. I was given morphine(the whole hospital stay) which is a pain med I was already on for going on 6 years (chronic back pain/6 slipped disc)but just a little extra(which I was hooked up to a med machine)through my iv. So I followed instructions and walked as much as my body would allow me. I couldn't even sleep in the hospital bed because I was having issues breathing (when laying flat) and I couldn't keep getting in and out of the bed to go potty so I slept in the chair(recliner) that was by my bed. I stayed in the hospital a total of 3 and 1/2 days, with no meds. I feel better everyday(thank god) but now that I am almost two weeks out I'm still having some pain but its way better than before(its around a 6 or 7).... 22. ny first few weeks i felt hungry all
  23. I was sleeved on 12/22. So I'm about 3 1/2 months post op. I'm really struggling with abdominal muscle soreness. It's around my incisions and abs in general. At my 3 month post op appt my surgeon said some people experience soreness until 5-6 months. He recommended that I stop doing lunges and squats for 4-6 weeks as that engages the core and could be causing the soreness. It's so uncomfortable at night that I can hardly sleep. I get maybe 4-5 hours a night. I'm getting super frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this soreness? Any tips or advice? I was seeing great results in my legs/rear from doing the squats and lunges. I've completely stopped for 2 weeks now and I'm not noticing a difference in the soreness.

    Surgery August 21st- massive nerves!

I am nearing 2 years post op...I remember the night before surgery well. I remember being in the car with my husband driving down the road scared out of my mind. I was thinking things like "Have I really tried hard enough?" "Is this the right thing to do?" "What if I have complications?" Endless thinking and worrying. The morning of surgery was worse. I was the first patient of the day - I had to be at the hospital at 6:00 am. I remember sitting in admitting thinking "I can walk out of here right now and only be out $500." I glanced over at my husband - he was scared, too. We really didn't make eye contact, but I remember thinking "I HAVE to do this, this is my opportunity." I then chose to walk down the hallway and start the process - yes, I was scared and nervous, who wouldn't be? Here's what I know, almost two years later - this was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I am leading the life I was meant to lead. I am happy. I am content. This is hard - the surgery and recovery from it was the easy part. I'm not going to sugar coat it - the next few months will be hard. You will have good days and you'll have crappy days. You'll be happy one day and crying the next. It's the process. Here are a few things I've done this summer - these would have been unthinkable two short years ago... Zip lining Whitewater rafting Hiking - miles and miles of hiking Hot yoga 4-5 times a week Taking a Segway tour of Chicago Biking - miles and miles of biking (I even got a new bike!) I got a promotion at work - I don't think because I lost weight, I think I got it because now I have confidence to talk to people and look them in the eye. The most important accomplishment after I had the surgery - my relationship with my husband and son are so much better. I'm not angry all the time - I'm more patient. I have a stronger bond with both of them. About a year after the surgery my son and I jogged for a little bit and I said, "Wow, I couldn't have done that a year ago!" My son looked at me and said, "I'm glad you had the surgery, Mom. You seem happier." What an amazing moment and one I'll cherish. In summary, I'm so happy I didn't let fear win back then. There have been so many amazing moments since then. best of luck to you!
  25. It took me almost a week to have a normal # 2. I felt better when it happened.. that may be where your pain is coming from. I felt the same until I finally did you know what ..
