  1. I want to take a sit down bath! Don't know if I can wait another week . I have never been a shower person. What's the worst that could happen?

    Four weeks post op pic

Congrats on your progress, my surgery date was 07/28 and I have hit a serious stall, no weight loss in 3 weeks and I am starting to wonder what am I doing wrong. You look amazing, got any good tips on how you are so successful?
  3. Hi guys im new to forum! So my bmi is at 40.3 with no complications. I have been referred to a surgeon for gastric bypass and I have completed any requirement that my insurance may ask for. I did 6 months of a supervised diet amd got cleared by the dietician and mey with the psychiatrist and with the surgeon. Everything is clear on their end and now the only thing pending is my insurance.. the surgeon submitted the documents to them on a Tuesday of last week so it has been about 7-8 days and the surgeon told me that my file was under supervision.. i was wondering who else in California has full Medi-cal and how long it took to hear back from them. Im so anxioud and scared to get rejected... Thank you! [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N900V using BariatricPal mobile app

    25 days post sleeve.

You have to get in your Protein or you will stop losing weight. I am almost a month out and at week 2 I wasn't eating much and didn't lose weight for about a week. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
  5. I am 5 weeks post-op, and twice now I have experienced 3-5 lb weight GAINS. The first time was random, and it really upset me. The second time was after I hurt my back and was basically immobile for 3 days as well as taking (liquid) pain meds (hydrocodone). It is very frustrating, especially when I think that I have only lost 20 lbs (+/-) total since surgery, at a time where I thought my numbers would be much higher. Is this typical?? Right now, I just got down to 1 lb BELOW the last 5 lb gain (so I lost 6 lbs, verrry slowly) and now I'm up almost 2 lbs. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING!! Especially when I don't know if anyone has ever experienced such a strange phenomena. I can't call my regular doc since they are closed for the holidays. I have to admit, I am not exercising (because of my back issues, in tandem with the stress of the holidays), and I'm hoping that this, in conjunction with my choosing high carb items (baked potato Soup, cheese soup, noodles, etc) has something to do with it. Please tell me that this is actually what the problem is, so that I can begin that rapid downward scoop that I was looking for pre-surgery!! Or, am I just expecting too much, and should I be happy with my weight loss to date? I began at 245 which is comparatively low for GSS patients, in general (I'm told). Could that be it?? I'm just stumped, and frustrated.
  6. I think that I am just as impatient as you are Tara. My Sleeve date is 03/13 & I am counting down the days. I have pre-op on Monday (02/20) & then still have 3 weeks. I just wish it would get here already. I have gotten everything in order so I have nothing but time to be on VST & watch the clock!!!!!!!
  7. In case any preops want to know what a 3-4 week post op diet might look like. Good chance to shop in advance. In 3 weeks I lost 17 pounds. The first 2 weeks is all liquid, but here is how my 3rd week started... · Liquid and soft foods only · Target 80-100gms of Protein (ProSLam and low cal protein shakes) · Target 900-1200 calories a day · Always eating protein first · Multivitamin complete (with iron) daily · Calcium chews (from Sams club) · No starch · Max of 6gms of sugar in whatever I eat/drink · Lots of sugar fee or no sugar added Jello products · coffee with no sugar added soymilk · Targeting 64 ounces of Water per day but more like 16 in reality · Crystal light popsicles I’m a little habitually hungry at night but generally pretty satisfied. Dessert is 90 calorie tapioca by Jello.

My PostOp diet for Preop people

These lists are really helpful BUT...remember to follow the pre- and post-op diets your surgeon gives you. There are things on that list my surgeon did not want me to use or have at 3-4 weeks, and other things that he definitely wanted that seem dicey from above (ie the Water...he said water is first/imperative, and I could drink it easily. It was no trouble getting 64 oz down, esp since I was to have it and not any other beverages like crystal light, coffee, etc) SO this is a great "guideline" but newbies please do what your doc says; if you're in doubt get clarification from your doc. They know what works best for "their" clientele and for you. :crying:
  9. They legally have to tell you all that most ppl don't experience any major problems although I will say it's an adjustment for sure it takes time to get used to and the first few weeks can be really hard and it feels like it won't get better but it really does I has a real emotional roller coaster ride I think partly because I felt so incredibly weak for a few weeks but once I got enough fluids and some meds adjusted and forced myself to get up and do things if just for a few mins here and there I started to feel so much better
  10. I am a little over 5 months out and have not really had a tough plateau yet. The longest was 4 days. They all stink though. Praying to not have one that lasts weeks until I.am at my goal
  11. I have had a few plateaus so far, but I have been hovering around at 90 pounds lost for the last few weeks. I am just over the 6th month mark now. I had my check up at the doctor's office and I decided I wanted to up the intensity of my exercises, add strength training and start planning low carb meals. I realize that to get to where I want which is still 110 pounds away, I'm going to have to work even harder now and really be disciplined to be successful long term. I will be successful!

    I hit the 2-year mark August 10th

I so enjoyed reading your story. Really an inspiration! I am 63 and got the band in May. I also stopped needing 3 of my 4 bp meds after about 2 months, and the last med was reduced in half; my cholestoral is now 101! I just broke a two-week plateau today. It was the first plateau since getting the band. I also experienced my first "being stuck" 2 days ago after my 2nd fill. Lasted about 40 minutes, so had to go back in to get a little taken out. Never want to do that again. Due to an out of the area emergency, I won't be able to attend my monthly lap band meeting on 'Tues-- where a doctor will be the guest speaker to talk about plastic surgery. Bummer! My stomach is already forming an apron and I am already disguested with it. So I know I will go for a TT, too. How much did it cost to get yours done? What all did it include? How bad was the pain? How long was the recovery? I look at my nude body and would like to be lypo-suctioned from my boobs to my knees! :-) Anyway, thanks so much for your story, and for anything you want to share further regarding your tummy tuck. Continued good luck!!
  13. Two years ago today, my husband of 20 years had a melt down and told me for the first time how much he hated my body and that our sex life was terrible because I was fat. This was the first time he had ever said anything and I was pissed, shocked, hurt and confused. I thought about walking out because it was such a bombshell, but over the next two weeks we got everything out in the open (including me telling him things that I had held back). We cried, we fought, we talked, we made some decisions. Although he could have handled it much differently, I couldn't deny that he was right....not to mention my health was going downhill. A month later, I had WLS, that was October 2011. A year later, I had lost 80 lbs and reached my goal weight. That was September 2012. I wrote a blog every Sunday for the first year. If you haven't read it and you want some inspiration, please go to www.queenofcrop.com I want to inspire those who aren't sure if they should do this, or might be struggling after the surgery. My life today is an extraordinary, amazing life. My health issues are gone, my husband and I have never been closer, our sex life is more than amazing, I feel younger and happier than I have in my entire life. I turn 60 in a few weeks. I feel 35. I think I look pretty good for 60. I'm happy. I am grateful.
  14. I'm a month out and still cannot even think of rolling onto my stomach because of port pain. I can FINALLY sleep on both sides, though I sometimes will get a twinge from my port in the readjusting. My doctor did not seem concerned by this though it was certainly not usual-- he had me in for a fill at two weeks post op (the normal time for his patients), but since I had the port pain issue-- not even side sleeping at that point-- he didn't give me a fill and put me off until next week. If mine were as bad as you're describing, I'd definitely call though. Are you stomach sleeping?
  15. Hi All, I was banded on July 9 and lost 25 pounds by my first post op appointment on Aug. 9. At that time my doc said he didn't want to do a fill because I was doing so well without it. Well I thought I would up the stakes and I started working out 5 days a week. I work three days with a personal trainer and two days I do Water aerobics. So since my doc appointment I haven't lost any weight at all. I've been tracking my calories and it seems I average about 1300 a day. Is that too much? Also, I can drink about 60 oz of water a day right now but I'm concerned that might not be enough either. Tomorrow I start school and I take glassblowing glasses so with our 90+ degree weather and the heat from the class I'm really worried about not getting in enough water. Before my surgery I would drink at least 72 oz of water in 4 hours during class because I would guzzle down a bottle at time. With the sip, sip, sip method I'm worried. Any suggestions? Thanks for the info and thanks to my exercise buddy Val for telling me about this website. Great info!
  16. I am scheduled for June 17 as well. I have already started as of April 29 changing my diet and experimenting with different protein supplements. My favorites so far (and trust me when I say I am very picky) is EAS Myoplex Lite in French Vanilla (not a fan of the chocolate drinks so far but my husband likes them) and ISOPURE (liquid form, have not tried the powdered form yet)..one bottle is 80 percent protein and it tastes pretty good...kinda reminds me of sugar free coolaid mixed with a wine cooler (haha)...Good LUck...By changin my diet and substituting the EAS drink for breakfast I have gotten my body (sorta) ready for the two week liquid diet and have grown a taste ... not to mention already dropped 11 pounds (in two weeks) and feel a lot less bloated...
  17. Please call your surgeon ASAP. Even if it is nothing bad, he can prescribe some pain killers. I had no pain but from what I've read here, most have no pain after a week, 2 at the most.
  18. Today's blog is a very real reflection of my journey so far...and it isn't all pretty. Find out what it was that lit this girl on fire this week at Life...With a Side of Carrie.

    Frequent business travelers - meals?

When I travel I keep Protein bars and fruit in my bag. There's lots of airport food I can eat if I choose to. I can eat almost anything. As for steakhouses, I always order the smallest filet or split the large one with my DH with a side of potatoes or green veggie. It won't be so hard after the first couple of weeks. You'll get in a groove.

    Begnin PVC'S/Arrhythmia

Hello all! I was recently diagnosed with frequent, yet benign PVC's. They've decided not to put me on meds because they're more of a health risk than the arrhythmia itself (!?!?!?!) I don't have my pre-op consult for two more weeks, and I am DYING to know if this will effect my eligability for banding. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance, bandsters!!!!

Please tell me it isn't my band....

I don't know if this will help you at all but: I got hives all over my body about six months after being banded. I had done nothing that wasn't normal in my everyday life; no new foods, beverages, soaps or anything else. Mine itched though. They lasted about two weeks and went away and I haven't had them again since then.
  22. Just let me start by saying UGH. I have been on this journey since January. Finally got the 6 months of medically supervised weight loss behind me. Insurance took a couple week to get the approval thru. Went and had my lab work done on Friday. My surgeon's office won't schedule the surgery until they receive the results of the blood work. I am just REALLY ready to get my new healthy life started. Maybe tomorrow will be the day it all comes together!!!

    Is this heartburn???

Hi I've been eating solid food for a week , however about 3hrs after eating my stomache gets really gurgly.I burp alot and have pain in my chest. Is this heartburn??? I have never suffered before. Also if I eat more than I should I'm fine. This doesn't bode well for portion control. Nicolek
  24. I was certain I wasn't going to meet my goal when I hit the stall 3 weeks ago.....my goal is to hit -50lbs by April 20. I have 4.2 lbs to go---c'mon fairy, do your work!!
  25. I'm about 4 weeks out and still have a little tenderness right around the bottom of my belly button. My doc said they same thing. It's the only soreness or tenderness I have anymore and it's a lot less than it was before.
