What made you realize you needed a revision to your roux-n-y surgery
ValerieInMexico replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did not even know it was possible until someone told me about their procedure. This person had a revision and lost 50 pounds. I consulted with her surgeon, wondering what he could do to help me with gastric reflux and making my stomach pouch smaller. He explained the choices and then made a recommendation. Really, I would not have thought of it on my own, but now I am excited. My RNY did help me loose 100 pounds, 19 years ago and I kept 80 or so off, so it was successful. I just want to go further and he will see if there is something he can do with the reflux. -
I'm choosing clothing/undergaments that helps make me look thin and well proportioned. My bras are stuffed, there are spanx under my Elle Woods dress. High waisted and skin tight are your friend. Trust me I have a lot of jiggle. My stomach is nowhere near flat, unless I will it to be with spandex. Even then I have a small pooch, which I am embracing as my "feminine shape" π You're giving me too much credit and you too little

Day 1 on the Pre Op Diet!
ValerieInMexico replied to MarvelGirl25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I began reducing my volume and caloric intake about 8 weeks ago. I slowly, slowly lost around 10 pounds. Hard to know because I only bought a scale half way through. I began the pre surgical diet 3 days ago and my scale has shown a drop of 4 pounds! That encouraged me! I have no problems until night time. That's when I get hungry! I have been splitting my delicious shakes in half. Taking a 20 minute break between the two halves. I also make a bowl of sugar free jello in the morning and that is my evening snack. So I think the actual fact you can loose weight on the presurgical diet is a huge motivator. I am having problems with some friends who are really all about just staying fat and enjoying their lives. They are very against me doing this. My supportive friends are all really into eating healthy, and they are into smoothies and shakes already so its pretty much easier with them. All kinds of people are drinking protein shakes and smoothies for breakfast and lunch so that should be easy for you at work. Best of luck! I am going in for a tune up of my pouch and RNY, on July 31. -
No way would I even think of you as fluffy. I see you as svelte and slim with a perfect figure/proportion and smokin' hot! I just think I carry my weight differently (in my lower abdomen and booty/thighs in a jiggly loose sorta way. LOL. And yes, of course you're right...it's BD and a highly self-critical lens. I see myself very harshly and I don't apply that lens to others. *************** And of course you're right. It IS stinkin-thinkin lol! Thanks!

How to choose a realistic goal weight
froufrou replied to ValerieInMexico's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've chosen 170 - It's not as low as I should be, but I think it's a good landing point and then I can assess what's going on from there. Just seems like a good attainable number. I'm going to have a lot of loose extra skin and I'm sure that weighs quite a bit! lol. That's my excuse anyway. -
Skin does takes time to retract. Working on the muscles and tissues below will help to an extent.

Honestly, I don't see a difference. I'm just going to believe they ARE getting firmer, and I can't see them because of my loose arm skin. Right? Right??!?!?

What fruit can you and canβt you eat?
GreenTealael replied to OzCaz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I used to eat a lot of watermelon. In addition to being delicious it kept my bowel movements loose. It's mostly wster so perhaps its moving through you too quickly. Avoid it if its giving you bathroom issues or use it when you need to fix a bathroom issue Other than that i only used to eat a few types of fruit post op , mostly berries. -
size vs scale Weights vs measures
Darktowerdream posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I donβt know if this has been discussed before but I see people talk about how you should look more at size loss (measurements) than the scale. I am getting frustrated at the fact that my weight is going down and I should be fitting smaller sizes but my measurements donβt seem to match the scale. I am 5β and I think my weight loss finally hit 39lbs. (203lbs at surgery) I did buy a few pieces of loose clothes that were on the bigger side and then switched to size large in some activewear bottoms that run I guess size 14-16? and menβs T-shirtβs also size large (womenβs xl?) I bought other size L but they run 12-14 (old navy) the 14-16 are a little loose especially my hips and the 12-14 too tight once they hit my stomach. I buy stuff when I can get it cheap enough on sale. I wanted back ups since I thought Iβd at least fit the smaller size large. I finally decided to measure. Iβd swear despite the weight loss my measurements havenβt changed. My abdomen is still abnormally swollen. And Iβm frustrated. It did go down in size under my bust, but my waist wherever it is, is still big. My upper bust could probably fit a womenβs medium, buy my stomach a L-XL. My hips arenβt that big 42β. But once you get to my abdomen itβs out of proportion. I have a mass in my pelvic area but my doctor told me to wait even though he didnβt follow what the ct scan results said to (follow up with another test to check if itβs a risk and if I need biopsy) the ultrasound wasnβt able to visualize the mass. The tech said I need an mri, but my doctor? No he said wait. It was already two months or more by the time I got an appointment to see him. But I digress. Im just worried that the measurements arenβt changing. I was always a denim Bermuda shorts and T-shirt person but now Iβm wearing exercise capris. Since I canβt afford to try to find shorts that fit. My weight went up so rapidly (again) that I was size 4 and bought a size 6 Leviβs that I never got to wear and are in a bin in my closet with new size small tops and size 5 underwear. I have no idea how long the bin has been in my closet (I buy things when I can find big sales but only enough for what I need but I wonβt get into my ocd clothing habits) I rapidly went up to a large size 14 with a lot of stretch. At that point I couldnβt afford to size up again. The denim would end up not fitting my stomach and scrunch up on my hips. Im sorry my post likely is just a lot of nonsense. I just canβt get answers from my doctors. Of course there are more important issues than measurements and pant size but my abdomen is just endlessly painfully swollen. -
Iβm no longer critical of how I look now that Iβve reached a healthy weight. Itβs pretty much how I looked the majority of my life. I got obese fast so that was such a departure for me. I feel like me again and I feel comfortable in my own skin. Everyone looks great, everyone is a different age and body type with different goals. This is a fun thread, be proud of what youβve accomplished!

In 1998 after my "sleeve" surgery I began walking a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening. When given the go ahead to do more I got some Richard Simmons DVD's and did one daily. I dropped 100 pounds in 6 months. I know to avoid loose skin it is important to do strength training. Best of luck! +

Yeah, I totally get this! I donβt have the same self-loathing as I did when MO. Iβm generally very happy with how I feel in my skin most of the time. And feel good and normal when weβre out and about. But seeing pics of myself somehow still loads those old tapes and I see myself with extreme bias. And whatβs weird is I would never think about applying those same critical filters to othersβeven if they were more gentle. Lol guess Iβve still got a lot of headwork left!! How about yβall? Has your BD decreased with your losses and smokin hot outfits?

POD-doctor's outfit. So seriously--damn you body dysmorphia. At 133lbs I "feel" thin in my body. You know? Or at least normal. I can now look in the mirror and think I just simply look normal. Right? But when I look at these pics in outfits I used to feel thin in, I think I look heavier than when the jeans were on the tight side. They are now on the loose side of life and I need to go down to an 8 in them. And my waist looks so "thick" (and clearly so do my fluffy thighs). *sigh* Anyone else have this issue even in their super hot outfits?

I prefer Bali or Warners, and sorry to be a shitz but I now prefer full granny undies (except frillies on 'special' occasions that the undies are on for like 10 minutes). But then I also wear spanx all in one bra/cami nearly every day to hold the flabby skin at bay. I used to only wear hipsters or bikinis prior to wls.

Asking older sleevers, did I make a mistake?
Mj77803 replied to gabybab's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It happens! I'm 21 mo post op sleeve/ 4 mo post bypass, and I still suck gettin calories. But don't focus on the number. I know that's hard, because that's our validation that the surgery is working. What keeps me motivated is that I'm still losing inches even if the number isn't moving. You'll still notice your clothes are loose . Stay positive, stay motivated, and keep following the plan. -

Where will you be 9 months from now?
Frustr8 replied to KT1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, Sandra at 9 months I was much thinner, wearing much smaller clothes, the Bad Parts- I thought I had poor skin color, looked like Road Kill and wondered if people were lying or making fun of me for my surgery appearance when they said " GOSH YOU LOOK GOOD" because. I thought I looked pretty okay back when I was obese too. But Happy to say, it's 10,5 Months now, I have c9me to terms with the fact I may never LOOK quite the SAME as I used to, but the NEW ME is still quite cool. Although I am quite fair, a curse of Celtic heritage, I have developed a little light freckling and tan, don't go out walking in the high sunlight between 10 AM and 2-4 PM, but if Shirley Mc Claim and the Late Doris Day could rock it, why not ME? My hair , the other Celtic gift, since it is Strawberry Blonde and naturally thin, as long as I use warm water, no mousses, gels or hair spray to mat it down, looks passable fair. And it went into a pixie style when I first saw hair on my comb or in the shower. Praise God I didn't go completely bald, but if it had gotten worse I might have shaved it bald like the guys do, 3/4 of my ex- friends thought I was really losing weight and hair due to chemo and wasn't being HONEST with them. They just couldn't accept someone over 70,could actually seek and be successful with Bariatric Weight Loss. Their error, you are NEVER ARE TOO OLD to make positive changes in your LIFE, and if I had been on Chemo, hey I do respect those people too, but it wasn't any of " their beeswax" as my youthful peers used to say. And those downers , if they can't accept truth, they are NOT what I want in my life in the first place. So this month, I put a Big Smile on my face, rock my new colorful size. 18 clothes, for the first time in my adult life I'm wearing leggings, capris, maybe a pair of shorts or 2 before summer is over, spent TOO TOO MANY YEARS wearing gray, black, Brown or navy to be in the background where I thought I belonged, now if it fits I'm going to wear it, my skin looks a lot less MUDDy in flattering shades. And if I can accept the changes, exude confidence, then I will be a pleasant person the RIGHT PEOPLE will be drawn to, if not, plenty other fish in this Big Blue Sea, aren't there?πFrustr8, the former Shrinker Back into the Woodwork person who finally herself, and likes Herself more for IT! -
Where will you be 9 months from now?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to KT1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too am 9 months post op but I had gastric bypass. I have reached my doctor's goal but need to get to 123 to have a normal BMI. About 5 lbs to go. I don't really think I'll strive to reach the "ideal" weight for my height-117 lbs. If I get there fine, if I don't, that's ok too. I hope in 9 months I too will be ready for plastics because my "bat wings" make it difficult to find clothes that fit...my arm size doesn't match my body size. And face it, I live in Florida...all the cute summer clothes are sleeveless! Now, I only buy things with 3/4 sleeves. Also, the loose abdominal skin has got to go! Congratulations on your success! -
September 2019 ππ

Everything in its place and time...don't force it and go with the flow, we'd rather have you safe and cautious then rushed. When I first started this surgery journey we were aiming for January, then we were thinking October. Realistically, I'm okay with January if October is unattainable due to approval and requirements. I'm rooting for you...maybe our dates will be close and I have more time to workout, so I won't have a lot of loose skin. I know, silly stuff... -
Thank u so much I appreciate it.. It feels wonderful to get to a new me that I never thought I would b and ur confidence is a whole new world. Concern questions for post-op
GradyCat replied to Deegirl31's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HAIR LOSS: I haven't lost any more since having the surgery. I already had thyroid problems and thin/fine hair, so I was worried about losing anymore. I've been taking Biotin pills and using Nioxin and Minoxidil and have actually gained some hair. TOO THIN: Probably not anything to worry about. Our bodies self-regulate. LOOSE SKIN: So far mine has stayed elastic, even at my age (54). There are plastic surgeries to take care of that after you lose the weight if it's a problem for you. DEHYDRATION: I've never had a problem getting in way more than 64 oz of fluid each day. I sip, sip, sip all day long.
