I don't mean to sound gross but....
T.Whitaker replied to T.Whitaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I didn't even think that it could be constipation bc I figured it would be different.. but..... The pain is not ignoreable... It's like tearing stabbing exploding pain -
They shouldn't. I'm an RN and work on a post-surgical floor. We've had a decent amount of women on their period after surgery. Of course their's is due to a cancer diagnosis so it may be different, but I don't see an issue. I'll be close to mine as well. Omg me too! (I don't want to tell anyone bc I don't want them to cancel it!) it took too long to get the date and the time off work... (Just one more thing to worry about)!

BCBS Fed - anyone have revision approved?
JK90 replied to VDLT's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2010 (private pay) and never found my sweet spot. I was fed up with it 18 months later and quit going to the dr for fills and ended up gaining all of my weight back. Then, over the past year I've had a lot of trouble keeping solid food down (regurgitation) and when it got to a point where it was happening on a daily basis I went in to my Dr's office and after an upper GI they told me I had esophageal dysmotility. My esophagus wasnt doing the muscle motion needed to help me swallow and overall that my body wasn't agreeing with the band anymore and it needed to come out. I couldn't afford to pay for another out of pocket surgery so I asked what the cost was for a revision like mine and they told me that if you have a hernia (I did) and/or are having true medical problems that are caused by the band then bcbs would cover my revision. This turned out to be true, but it still wasn't cheap by any means. I paid about $5500 total for the dr, my egd and the surgery center's fee. Good luck with getting your revision! -
What is one thing you use the most post-op
alicia-livin-life replied to valcatlett4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My purse. I'm constantly digging in it to get one of my many vitamin bottles or a protein bar. Also, my husband. Lol. I "use" him a lot more because he is the reason I get my daily protein. He wakes up every morning to make us both protein shakes. I never have time bc I love sleeping in. -
I'm scheduled for a bypass on July 22. This has been a 7 month journey since making the decision to have wls. I'm a 39 year old single mom of 3 and school counselor. I've only told a couple of friends, my parents, and my boss. My ex and others will just have to wonder, I guess! I'm making the decision bc I want to be the best mom I can - active, fun, and healthy. After a heart issue, rheumatoid arthritis, an orbital tumor, stomach ulcers, a huge hernia, and sleep apnea I'm ready to shed this fat suit and take control of my life and health. I'd also like to feel confident enough with my body to travel more, date, and be strong and healthy. I'm nervous about the pre-surgery diet that starts in 3 days and about the length of recovery. I don't want to spoil the last few weeks of my kid's summer vacation with feeling crappy and being stuck at home. I'm praying for a week of yuck, a week of better, then feeling ready for anything (within reason). I have really enjoyed this group/app and have been seeking information and reassurance here for months. I didn't actually 'join' until yesterday, though! Any advise about gastric bypass recovery, things to expect, and success stories will be appreciated!

My biggest fear with VSG
AllisonK1986 replied to AllisonK1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm already getting therapy and my anxiety is under control and has nothing to do actually with my weight. I'm very positive and trying my damnedest to stick on my diet and get this surgery. I can lose 20 to 30 lbs and stall out and I have a lot of co morbities and that is why my specialist and pcp are recommending me for the surgery. I never in a million years thought it was a quick way or solution. I hope yall didn't take it that way. It requires hard work and determination and that's why I'm going through my Drs program specifically with him to get myself mentally and physically prepared bc I do need this surgery to save my life. God knows I'm on day 2 of no smoking and doing my best to eat no sugar, bread, Pasta, rice or starches! -
BCBS Fed - anyone have revision approved?
VDLT posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was self pay for band in 2001 and did well with weight loss at the beginning. Had some fills and unfills around 2009 and after that never felt right. Was too tight and did not eat well. Had imaging studies in 2011that showed esophagitis, gastritis, and a hiatal hernia. I had terrible shoulder pain and heartburn almost daily. Finally had the band emptied in 2013 but still have symptoms. Had a surgeon send in a letter in 2011 but was denied. I never got a copy of the denial. I want to try again but I have not been at a 35 bmi for two years. Anyone approved due to medical necessity for similar circumstances? Also my preferred surgeon is not at a center of excellence and I really want him to do my surgery. I have thought about self pay but am scared that if I develop complications since I have had band for 14 years that insurance will not cover the complications. Thank you for your thoughts! -
I didn't lose my friend due to weight loss, I lost her because she doesn't want me to lose the weight. Her self-image and ego have always been fed by the fact that she has always been considered the "pretty one" and has even self-proclaimed this on one occasion where I now regret not ending the friendship and saving myself from her huge ego then. Recently, upon learning of my plans for surgery, she actually stated very clearly that she "doesn't think we can be friends if I am thinner and prettier than her." A 30 year friendship down the drain because I've just realized I've ignored for a very long time that she is extremely shallow. Not all women are this way. Only shallow, inconsiderate, narcissistic people (both men & women) are like this. This is occasionally the same reaction you would get from jealous, self-loathing, needy people. Both types are not good friends. I have come to terms with the loss of the old me. The old me is not this brave and strong. I have just begun my journey but I am determined to lose the weight that has dragged me down for years and I intend to lose all of the bad friends who dragged me down too. I keep reminding myself that "Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive and kind people is also a healthy habit." And this whole journey to finding the new me is all about creating and maintaining healthy habits for the rest of my life. Oh...and one last thing...take her comment and cold shoulder as a compliment. You are now the "pretty one" and that's not such a bad thing either.

I was told you should never have carbonated drinks bc it will stretch your stomach. As far as drinking alcohol my nutritionist said I could try wine at week 6 post op. At home of course to make sure your stomach agrees with it. I would say you probably won't be able to have beer again!

I'm a nanny also. My surgeon told me don't lift anything over 7lbs for a month. The kids I watch are 2 1/2 and 5. It's difficult sometime bc I forget. I'm almost 2 weeks out.

My biggest fear with VSG
AllisonK1986 replied to AllisonK1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So is it worth it to have the surgery of your only losing a little bit of weight? Bc why have the surgery if u still have to act as hard or more as if u never had the surgery. -
You look amazing! I guess my biggest fear with VSG is in not gonna lose the amount of weight I need to ie 100+ lbs. how much was ur starting weight? I'm 5'6 and they weighed me at 270, but my weight fluctuates a couple of pounds a lot. I'm now starting the no bread, pasta, sweets. And starches diet. I ate a cliff bar that had dark choc chips and a touch of rice and wheat flour. It was 8g of protein and low glycemic and 190 calories for breakfast. I hope that's not too bad, bc I have to bring my food journal to each visit and when I see my dietician ????????

I also work in the hospital - it sucks bc the people doing my surgery are people I know (so awkward)! When is your date? Do they do a foley ?

Had my first meeting with Dr. Mcdevitt my surgeon today!
AllisonK1986 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dr is amazing! Not only does he not rush the process, he makes sure you are emotionally, physically, medically, and PREPARED before he even schedules your surgery date. So I'm looking anywhere between 3 to 4 months out for my surgery. We decided on VSG bc I have really bad arthritis among other things. I got put on the no bread, starches, Pasta, or sugar diet today. I think it's going to be a challenge, but I have to do it! Also, I was almost done quitting smoking and he will be testing me frequently for nicotine bc he will add 3 months to my wait time if I test positive. I had no idea smoking after surgery was so dangerous ????. I'm going next Wednesday for my pre op ekg, barium swallow, and chest X-ray and gotta go on the 14th for my dietician with my 2 week food journal ????. I tried calling all the pyschiatrist on his list and no one takes my insurance so it's gonna be atleast until next week for me to figure where to go to get it done. Bc I'm def not paying 400$ for a psych eval???? Sorry for the long post. Any advice or support is welcome! Xoxo -
I wish insurance would cover it bc once all the weight is gone and all that is left is fat skin it causes rash or raw area and that hurts like s mofo I'm on fb if you wanna add me I'm cass leighann crow

CIGNA really screwed up this time.....
smkallen67 replied to losinit512's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am hoping what happened to you isn't happening to me. My docs office submitted almost 2 weeks ago and today Cigna said they didn't have all the info they needed and was going to deny (via letter) when everything they said was missing WAS submitted. The doc office is resubmitting today what was missing and hoping for approval. Just BS that they say stuff is missing when it's their in front of them to hold up the process. Very frustrated. Wanted to hear accepted this week since I did all I was suppose to and all was submitted. UGGGH! No guarantees I understand even if you meet all the qualifications. Just have to pray and be patient something I am not very good at. And why are they approving and paying 80% of all the prep appointments for surgery if not going to approve surgery. Crazy Sue -

fed up of being tierd all of the time!

It will get better as time goes by. Keep doing what you know you're supposed to be doing....protein, fluids, and walking...at the very least. Are you taking any B12 and iron? Hang in there!!
-
It's really hard at first but it does get better. My surgery was June 1st and I'm just now beginning to get my energy back. Water plays a big part in your energy level, be sure your getting at least 64oz. It's a struggle at first to get that much water in but you can do it!!
-
thanks everyone
I have more energy today, I've been bad I need to drink more water and haven't been taking my vitamins as they make me sick but think I will buy some chewable ones today instead of crushing them :/

Good luck. It will happen. I have insurance through the state of VA. Well let's just say I've been on this journey for 15 months. My insurance required a 12 month program. I'm now scheduled for surgery July 13. Keep your head up it will be worth it. I still don't get too excited bc I'm scared another "glitch" will happen.

sleeve done on the same day as spouse
TLCRC3SexyMom replied to TLCRC3SexyMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the reply hockeyfan7. I wondered bc we have a 4 and 1 yr and didn't know bc our dr say he does not put you on any restrictions after surgery. He says if it hurts then don't do it bc he wants you to get back to a normal rountine. -
I don't remember sleeve4me but if everyone else is ok I'm fine with that. Sounds like lipstick is a no bc some aren't comfortable with her.

We Got approved and waiting on surgery date
TLCRC3SexyMom posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I got approved to have the sleeve and we went to do lab work,x rays, EKG and ultrasound this past monday. Next friday we go to have the EGD done. I am a little nervous about that but overall I am excited about our new life bc we gaining together and we are going to lose together!! I wonder how long we will have to wait for the surgery date and pre op diet discussion? Also is there anyone who got the sleeve done the same day as their spouse? -
I heard from Cigna today stating I was denied because they did not receive my 3 month diet or other physician recommendation. They said they was now waiting on my surgeon office to set up a peer to peer? What does this mean and what do we have to do now bc I have completed those and had faxed them over to my surgeon along with all of my other stuff, I'm not sure if they lost it or what. I am devastated. If they do a peer to peer will I likely have a higher chance to be approved ? Will this push back my surgery that is set for august 28?
