Meh to the scale now?
ms.sss replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm with @catwoman7 on this one, perhaps the "fat" you are looking to shed is really just extra skin. The scan should tell you this. I have a body composition scale at home, though I'm not sure how accurate they are...maybe you can try one out at a store, just to get a vague idea...? Because really, your pictures don't look like someone who needs to lose another 10-20 lbs... According to this, my target weight range based on 60-80% EBW loss is 133-155lbs. I'm 5'2", and wouldn't have been happy stopping at 155. I *may* have been happy at 133 (if that was as far as I could go) because yeah, my stomach was still a little puffy, but still had good boobage going on. Now I'm quite happy with my stomach/waistline, but the price was my boobs . And butt. I think I can plump up the butt (slightly) with some targeted exercise, but my boobs are gone forever (barring any boob plastics, which I'm not particularly interested in, as there are a tonne of other things I would do first before that - if I could) Yep, I think trying to get to a weight based on clothing size in our pasts doesn't always align. I was 5'2" and 105 lbs in high school and wore a size 5. I'm 114-ish now and I can wear sizes 0-2 (or a child size 12 for fricks sakes). Mind you, a good part of this can be explained by vanity sizing, but I I'm pretty sure I'm way smaller now than I was at 105 lbs. The exercise and working out probably explains the rest. -

Thanks! I hope my muscles stick around i haven't gymed in a long time. Im also thinking i dont have the large bone structure i thought i did... You know the lie you tell yourself when youre overweight... I'm just big boned 😒 Maybe also im having luck with sizes because i don't wear pants... I do wear workout gear to sit around of course 😂 Tons of excess fat and skin - I have it too. My most problematic area is my midsection, i need plastics ... hard core... *pun intended* I'm trying to figure out if i can have a mommy makeover ×3 because I still have a pregnancy shape 151 months later 😒😂 -

No, I think you are built! And have gorgeous muscles!!! I think I'm all baggy saggy fluffy skin and fat. So I occupy more space. You know? It would be diff if I had more muscle and was tight. I'd occupy less space. -

That's what super weird to me. At 140lbs, I wore a Size 12. Now I am 155 and wear a Size 8. That's why I'm kinda' like... well, I wanted to be a 12 again but I surpassed that so I'm happy. lol. My torso is very small, but until the skin from my arms is gone, I can't really wear long sleeves because nothing is cut right. I need a medium for the torso but a large for the arms or XL. Depends on the fabric, if it's stretchy. -

FluffyChix - you may want to consider getting a DEXAscan to see how much of that "fat" is actually "fat". I had one at 146 lbs - when I thought I still had about 20 lbs to go. Nope. My body fat was 22% - normal, but definitely on the low side for a female my height. That "fat" I had was just loose skin. The technician - and my PCP who saw the results - said it was time to stop losing weight (I did go down to 138 after that, which even I admit was too low for me, but in retrospect I'm glad I did because over the next year I gradually put on 12 lbs ("bounce back") and now am at a healthy 150 (give or take a couple of pounds depending on the day). anyway, the scans they do at medical clinics only measure bone density - not body composition. But there are commercial places - as well as sports labs at universities - that measure both. I paid around $150 for mine - but you may find lower prices at a university. I found it very worthwhile as I thought before I had it that I still had a ways to go. Nope. -

I think if you feel good in your skin, that's the ultimate goal. But feeling good in our skin, isn't an overnight thing...it can take some us a while to get used to it and to see ourselves accurately and when that happens we might want to lose more or regain some weight until we are where we want to be. I did mine in an analytical way using the charts/graphs/definitions my surgeon's office used to send to the insurance. She (my surgeon) never gave me a target weight, but I saw it in my chart--and I blew past her target within the first 6 months. Here's how I figured out my weight. Goal 1 (Totally arbitrary and based on what I weighed as a senior in high school) = 150lbs Goal 2 (Based on BMI chart for AVERAGE women. I'm totally boringly average so the chart works for me but may not work for you or other people who are super women. I chose it cuz it's almost smack in the middle of NORMAL WEIGHT and I knew I did not have this surgery to be satisfied with anything less than "NORMAL WEIGHT") = 140lbs Goal 3 (Based on being stubborn and looking at how my thighs and booty still look after I reached 140lbs. I posited that I still had a good 20 extra pounds of fat hanging around my body and that I didn't really need it. It's non-essential, so why not lose another 10lbs and try to get to my all-time "silver tuna goal"?) = 130lbs (this is proving very frustrating to reach) Goal 4 = Secret Barbie DreamGirl Goal (I doubt barring sickness, that I will ever see this number, but I still am pushing toward it for some reason.) = 125lbs **************** My surgeon's goal for me was 160lbs. Here is how THEY calculated it. 1. They use this formula to define "IDEAL" weight (which they all admit is not a realistic formula for modern-day women): 100lbs for the 1st 5 feet + 5lbs for every inch over 5 feet | So for a 5'4" woman my IDEAL wt was defined as 120lbs 2. Calculate EBW (Excess Body Weight) = Weight (day of surgery) - IDEAL wt = EBW | So mine was 222-120 = 102lbs EBW 3. Calculate % of expected EBW that will be lost as a result of the surgery and honeymoon phase of diet. = 102lbs X 65% (RNY per my surgeon's office) = 66lbs of expected loss of EBW 4. Calculate target weight = Weight (day of surgery) - 66lbs of expected loss = 156lbs which she rounded up to 160lbs. ******* So, as it happened, my Goal 1 weight was very close to their calculations of expected loss of % EBW for RNY surgery. This morning I weighed 134.4lbs. -
Weirdest things you are looking forward to after surgery

I’m afraid even the little things I want won’t be achieved. But I’d love to wear shorts that aren’t Long Bermuda, actually Im wearing exercise capris because my sizing is abnormal. I just want to fit normal clothes without discomfort and pain. Id love to walk by a store mirror and not feel disgusted by what I see. I’d like to be able reach my goal and have a thigh tuck so walking won’t be so uncomfortable. (Ok that’s a big one) I just want a normal size stomach too. I want to be able to wear a bathing suit with tankini top and boy shorts and not feel awkward. (Of course it would help if I wasn’t allergic to chlorine) I know I will never be comfortable in a regular swimsuit. Maybe get out of the habit of wearing long oversized men’s t-shirts. Though my clothes have always been fairly neutral denim and t-shirts. Skirts? Dresses? I can’t picture that. I have some new clothes in a bin I’d bought when I started gaining back weight. I bought one size up but It hit me so fast that they never actually fit. At the least I’d like them to fit, someday - comfortably loose and not too tight. Funny thing is I started writing this and forgot, and it was still here when this post popped up again. I cant have goals of exercising more, or doing more activities. My health won’t allow that. But just to not carry the burden if extra weight is enough. Just having the tool to get the weight off is enough. At least for a small goal. It won’t fix everything but just being able to move around easier in bed, and already feeling like I carry lead weights was made carrying extra pounds even harder ... i don’t know that I’ll ever shake seeing myself as being fat. But if I can reach even one goal it would be nice. For now my goal is to figure out the cause of some new medical problems and go from there. -

Yeah, I just can't take the arm skin anymore. I would have a second surgery (probably just lipo at that point) if the skin drooped more in the future. I'm not opposed to multiple plastic surgeries, even on the same spots, if need be. -
Vets - How often do you weigh yourself?
Dr-Patient replied to Losebig's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Hi, Yes_Anastasia. Given your significant weight loss, may I ask about redundant skin--especially at the abdomen and upper inner thigh areas? Is it loose and .?.; you own stock in spanx [buy them a lot]?; or did you have it removed, or what? [if you don't mind sharing]. Thank you. -

I am getting a tummy tuck, arm lift, and skin removal from my "side boob". He did a breast reduction in 2017 and said the side boob area was fat and would go away when I lost weight.... which it did not whatsoever. LOL. -
OLDER peeps (50+) exercise
Diana_in_Philly replied to Avery's Mom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have about 10 extra pounds of skin/fat that are going nowhere and I work out like a demon. I fence (as in en garde) 6-7 hours a week, do a cross fit type class three hours a week, work with a personal trainer 1 hour a week and do pilates and yoga another 2 hours a week. Every other weekend I am fencing competitively. I have a pouch. Nothing is going to do anything about it until I have plastics. If I tighten my abdominals under it you can see the six pack that is there, but that fat and skin is going to have to be surgically removed. You can tighten up the muscles, but that won't cure the giggle. -
I am really struggling with my stomach. so saggy and loose and seems nothing I do is helping to tighten it up. I kow some of this is genetics and the amount to lose/lost, etc. WHAT are you go to ab exercises. what has worked for you?

I just sent this panicky quotation laden message to my surgeon... LOL " " "" "" " " " "" " Do I have a goal weight? No one has discussed this with me. I arbitrarily set it at 140 because that's what I remember "looking good at", except now I am at 156 and 2 sizes smaller than I was at 140 because I have much more muscle mass... but the BMI says I am still "overweight". How do I know when I am "done" losing weight or where should my target be? Is it okay I am still "overweight" since the BMI chart doesn't take into consideration body fat percentage?? I have a consult for skin removal next week and want it done at the end of November. Should I stress about "getting to 140lbs"? " -
So, my "goal weight" I personally set to 140 because that's how much I weighed about 9 years ago and what I thought would be good-looking. I am in the 150s now and just hovering between the same 3lbs. I could be in a stall or possibly just this is my equilibrium. Either way, I am two sizes smaller than I was when I was 140, probably due to lean muscle rather than fat. So, I've decided to stop weighing myself entirely. I feel like I was/am obsessed with getting to "a number" and not actually looking at how I look and feel (or taking into consideration muscle mass versus body fat). Have any of you just stopped weighing? Is that dangerous? Should I still keep tabs on "the number"? I am still considered overweight on the BMI - but I am definitely "smaller" than I was at 140, which is a "healthy weight". My surgeon's office has no opinion, because they thought I'd only get to the 160s or 170s. I'm also having skin removal in 3 months, which may shave off a few pounds anyways.

Surgery is a week from tomorrow. Currently freaking out about loose skin and feeling bad about myself because I'll never look anything like this:
-
The intermittent fasting stuff is a no-no if you want to eat more but cant because you are full. Thats at least eight hours of not eating that you are loosing.

WTG...I had my 1st year check up and doctor said I am 1lb overweight! I'm still in shock, however, it does feel good. OK, but here is the kicker, the skin overlapping (belly) area. I started getting boils and I mean super huge boils and they hurt and when they burst, so disgusting and smelly! 😮It's like one big super huge pimple AND they drain for days! Often referred to as Panniculus . I consider myself (almost) a clean freak but err uhm, those things freaked me out. So yea, as embarrassed😕 as I am to say, I went to the emergency room. They told what a boil was and why I'm probably getting them. Fast forward a little>>> so I did some research on Panniculus and a panniculectomy (also) abdominoplasty {also} known as a tummy tuck! Right, this is considered plastic surgery! I dug deeper and found if you are having issues, such in my case, and can be proven, my insurance may cover an abdominplasty surgery. Well, I took pictures of these things, notes, and went to my PCP on each occasion. Then went to see the abdominoplasty surgeon and they are submitting the paper work to the insurance company. They may or may not approve me but I gave it a shot. In the meantime, I have antibiotics, I wash the area with antibiotic soap, and I floss down there with a towel like there is no tomorrow.😏 I have pics of them, would love to post but I do not want to freak anyone out. I will update if I get approve or not but I was told my insurance company is pretty good with things like that so fingers crossed🤞. I will post an update on my progress. Love the maintenance board.❤️

Cravings Are Killing Me

My surgery was July 30 and Tuesday I start full liquids, my doctor includes cream soups, if spun to make chunks gone, loose grits, oatmeal, mash potatoes. Someone said tomato soup upsets the stomach. They didn't mention baby food. -
You look AMAZING and do not appear to have any loose skin at all...I know you are pretty young but did you use anything special on your skin? Congratulations!!

TMI time: A former lover had such firm taught muscle tightened skin that I use to touch it obsessively. I'm sure he thought it was some insane sexual attraction when in reality I was extremely jealous and trying to find out how to imitate it 😒

Ahhhhhhh You look so gorgeous and firm 😍... I miss tight skin 😭

Food Before and After Photos

Too lazy to get a bowl (and wash it after), so just dumped the fixin's in the yogurt container and ate out of it First meal of the day: 3/4 cup icelandic yogurt + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1 fl oz red skin peanuts + 20 blueberries The entire thing is 322 calories. Ate about 2/3 of it, will likely eat the rest in a couple hours... -
Needing more protein 6 months out to help with maintence and hair loss
2Bsmaller18 posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
So my MD had a goal of only 60g of protein but I think I am loosing too quickly and want to increase it to hopefully stop this hair loss that I am freaking out about. I do a 30g premier shake every day then have an egg, lunch meat, tuna etc. It's just volume is an issue. I can only eat 1 egg in 15-20 min but nothing else for an hour at least. At dinner a 2oz piece of meat (ground beef chicken anything) and I am stuffed. I get in maybe a half cup of fruit or veggies during the day just to get some fiber in. I feel like I shouldn't push the volume up but I also feel like I am spending the entire day thinking about trying to get more food in small amounts all day to try and get 800 calories (trying to maintain current weight) and 60-70g protein. Ugh. I have had no stalls and still lose 2 pounds/week. I am now at a normal BMI and it's; not slowing down. I don't want to lose more. I never thought I would have that issue. I am trying to tell myself I can still lose another 10-15 pounds and that I will probably gain 10 pounds once my body settles anyway. -
Collagen is a fairly "worthless" protein source and is incomplete. There is SOME anecdotal evidence that it helps skin, hair and nails. You CANNOT game the system. LOL. You need as my surgeon said, one of two kinds of protein: 1. Whey Protein (preferably isolate, but it can be a mixture of isolate + concentrate) = most readily absorbable 2. Soy Protein Isolate (which is less bioavailable than whey) = 2nd most readily absorbable

I haven't had surgery yet ... but I have been doing a lot of research with my own DNA and I found some interesting information ... I found out that weight training helps me loose weight more than cardio. Cardio is great and you need to get it in for a healthy heart but in some people it will not do much for weight loss. I agree with the many people here saying to stay away from the protein bars ... especially if your not doing weight training. Keep positive... Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
