I have the same insurance. It went really smoothly. I had the same requirements, and once they were completed the auth process took just 10 days, and no denials. Good luck!

Gastric bypass patients have pouches...whereas gastric sleeve patients have sleeves. A sleeve is not synonymous with a pouch. Anyhow, your sleeve will relax over time to accommodate a higher volume of food as it heals. This is the natural progression of things although it saddens some people. During the first few months postop I could tolerate about 3 ounces of food. Nowadays I'm almost 3 years out and can easily accommodate 8 to 10 ounces (more than half a pound). A fully matured sleeve's normal capacity is anywhere from 8 to 12 ounces. At this point I wouldn't worry about stretching your sleeve. Just focus on high protein foods and meeting your nutritional goals. Good luck to you.

I also had an abnormal ekg and I’ve never had heart issues in the past. Went to a cardiologist and after an echocardiogram, was cleared for surgery I also had odd thyroid numbers and they discovered nodules on my thyroid that had to be first ultrasounded, then biopsied. Turns out I will eventually have hashimoto’s, but at least I didn’t have thyroid cancer. All of these annoying things ended up delaying my surgery by about 4-5 weeks, but I did finally get my surgery 2-6-19. Since then, I’ve dropped close to 50 pounds and am almost halfway to my goal weight.

I also have bcbs il HMO. they insist (BCBS) that I have NO prereq's to be approved besides having a referral from my pcp deeming it med nec. BUT my med group is strict and has a 6m diet (used to be 12m w/10% wt loss) the nurse from the med grp says I don't even have to meet w/a doc, just weigh in every month. This is so weird. I am on month 2 and will not give up. If I were you I would get a lawyer today and start ruffeling their feathers. I bet you'll get your approval w/in 24 hours.

Surgical Steri Strips
RestlessMonkey replied to mom23gr8boys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you can do is VERY carefully trim away the part that is curling up (if that's feasible for you) I did that because the parts that were stuck seemed to be necessary and I didn't want one accidentally tugged loose by me catching the end on something while I was dressing etc. SO...I carefully trimmed the loose ends. The strips should stay on at least 10 days to 2 weeks. I itched but it was internal/healing, so lotion wouldn't help. You don't want to put lotion on any surgical sites, of course! -

Only 35lbs lost in 3months - feeling discouraged
MHBTS replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm similar. 10 weeks and 35 lbs. I had a 2 week stall with nothing. I started going to the gym this week and doing elliptical 30 mins and weight lifting. I'm also watching my carbs as I was eating oatmeal in morning. Switched it for eggs. The weight may not be as fast coming off as others but my clothes sure are getting looser. Let's stick in there. I'm sure with consistency we will continue to loose. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Is there a way to shrink in Liver in 1 week?
kcuster83 replied to zo30e28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not cheat, not even one bite or one sip of anything. Mine was actually a 10 day pre-op and I did it for 14 days! My surgeon was clear, if you gain ANY weight from your final weight check and the day of surgery he will cancel your surgery right there at the hospital. I worked too hard for this, put in too much effort. Noting was stopping me. I lost 19 lbs in the 14 days. I doubt 1 cheat would make you gain weight, it just wasn't worth the risk for me. Sometimes 1 cheat .. spirals out of control and it just wasn't worth it for me. -
Are you weighing yourself daily? My weight bounces around a lot so I only weigh weekly now. I'm almost 10 months out and I've been stalled for a month. I thought I lost 4 pounds but it turns out my scale was broken and it ended up dying. Stalls happen and they are frustrating but keep at the plan and get your fluids.

Insurance Timeline to Approval
VSG_Hopeful replied to VSG_Hopeful's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thirty days? Wow. I was under the impression that most insurance try to get an answer back within 10 days. I'd go crazy waiting for another month just to get an answer. -
I'm so happy that I found this place.....wahoo. I am 10 day to my revision From lab band to sips. So here's my story an I'm stickin to it lol. In 2005 I got my LB. My HW ever was 340 SW 270 LW 215 My CW 232 Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8 My first yr out I got to 215 My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again. [emoji26] My weight has bounced all over the place for the last 14 yrs. So I started doing research an decided I needed something with malabsorption. Cuz I really cant eat that much for the pass 8 yrs I have been at 236ish. I am very grateful for my LB. It has helped me to never see 340 again. But alas I must move on an get rid of the last 100lbs. Mum's the word!
doingthisforme replied to wintobethin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. I initially told my husbsnd and my best friend who is going thru this process also. Then my kids (10 &17).. I started educating my hubby and boys nonstop on it. This allowed them to learn about it, why its so important to me and to keep secret. It has worked. We are all eating better and they are soo supportive. Thats hard with teen boys. Now as far as work- as need to know basis. My boss , assistant, 3 coworers and HR ( thats me). They are all supportive .Now that my surgery is on 7/10 I announced to all staff I'm out but no details on why. There is that stigma of negative comments etc..I want to stay focused and positive. After who cares it is my choice. People smoke by choice and continue. People have plastic surgery by choice, etc. People choose many things in secret...they don't say it... my choice has a physical result.... lack of knowlege is ignorance. When there is ignorance lies confusion. They're just confused about this topic that's all. I chose who to tell on my own decision. But don't do this alone. There is atleast one person to count on. I found a great group here... I luv reading and sharing with you all! -
I'm 10 days from being 8mo. Post op and I was stalled at 155-158 for almost a month. I decided to try IF (intermittent fasting) for a week and it actually worked. I'm down to 152-153... My original GW was 160 so either way I made it and I'm so THANKFUL..... HW: 240 SW: 232 GW: 160 CW: 152-153 Sleeved 03/20/2017 Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

7/30 Sleever anyone else?
daanagaby12 replied to soprofound's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im nervous too, and Im on my liquid diet for 10 days! -
I think something may be wrong with me... I HATE protein shakes. I'm on the 3rd protein brand, and it's disgusting! My first shake was an EPIC fail as I made it with milk that I hadn't realized had gone "bad". Three gulps in, and I about lost my cookies! Yesterday, I tried a new brand, different flavor, GOOD milk and whil I managed to drink it, all I could think about was how gross it was. And, the thought of drinking another has made me nauseated... HELP! I have GOT to find a way to get all the protein in. I'm still in the pre-op phase, and I'm having surgery in 10 days. My fear is that if I don't like them now, then I'm SURE not going to like them post surgery! ANYONE????

I am hypothyroid and take Synthroid (100 mcg) daily. I normally take it first thing in the morning and I have been fine after surgery. I was recently given direction to take my Nexxium twice daily (morning and evening). My doctor said I can't take Synthroid with a PPI because it causes problems with absorption. So this morning I take my Nexxium when I wake up and figure I will take my Synthroid about an hour before lunch. By 930 AM I was sweating profusely and felt like I was having a hot flash! The RN who works with me asked if I had taken my Synthroid. I took it at at 10 AM and within 20 minutes the sweating and hot flash was back under control. Since I hadn't thought about it, I figured I would post for the other Hypo's out there after surgery.

Anyone else have a tween girl?
Mistyjo replied to juliarg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My oldest two are 12 boy & 10 girl . They where very upset about me having to surgery . They where worried about me . And they wanted me to stay fluffy as they called it. Lol. They really didn't understand and now that I'm 5 days post surgery they still don't . I just had to explain to them that I need to feel better & be healthier for them . So I can do a lot more with them .
