Surgery Scheduled 10/8/14 - Support Pals Wanted
NOLAGal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone: My surgery date is scheduled for October 8th, 2014 and I am ecstatic. I currently weigh 280 pounds and I am 5'9" tall. I would like to lose 100 pounds by my 50th birthday (July 11th, 2015). WOW...that would be an awesome 50th birthday present to me. I have only told my husband and immediate family about my surgery. Therefore, I would love to meet new friends on here to support each other and to share our experiences. If you would like to exchange emails or phone numbers to support each other, please let me know. Thanks!!!! -

Take a moment and a few deep breathes, count to 10 and with each number you count say one reason why you want this after you get to 10 visualize the happiest moment in your life then you should know if you really want to have the surgery only you can make this decision. Many blessing with whatever you decide is best for you. -
Are you taking anything for gas and acid? I take 2 zantac a day and if I start feeling gross I take some Gas-x. Have you tried anything like that? Have you had a bowel movement? I had my first one today and I feel so much better. That was my first since like 5 days before surgery and I'm 10 days out now! Yeah. Miralax and a stool softener might help also. Don't be afraid to medicine up.

Reflux before and after sleeve
bikrchk replied to knitdiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had been treated for asthma for like 10 years prior to surgery. When they did my EGD and found evidence of GERD along with a hernia they sent me to a pulmonologist who confirmed it. Not asthma, chronic coughing from GERD. Put me on a ppi and it cleared up immediately. The first month after surgery it was way worse. I raised the head of my bed which helped and they doubled the PPI. Much better! Then with healing and weight loss much MUCH better! I still take the ppi but no symptoms anymore. -
OVER IT and I dont think I am getting enough fluids!!!!
turkoisern replied to BlessedMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PRovider related the shoulder pain & nausea due to irritation to Vagus nerve caused by all the manipulation during the surg. I was told for the 1st 2 weeks to drink only 2-4 ounces of fluid at a time, one- 2 hours apart. not a tall latte right out of surgery! AAAK! I sip 2 Eas Myoplex chocolate shakes thruout the day plus sugar free gatorade, etc. I am down 10 since 9/27, a bit slower, but much more comfortable. -
Sharp pains in incisions
kscdvm replied to kristyh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is common for the largest incision where the surgeon removes your stomach. A larger part of the muscle has to be cut than the smaller ports for the laparoscopic instruments. It happened to me too. I found putting ice on it worked better than pain meds for me. I iced it 10 minutes every hour until it felt better. -

Anybody at least 6 months post op and regret their sleeve?
EJStorm posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anybody? I know it can be really rough for some in those first few weeks and I want to give them some hope. Also, did you struggle early on but love it now? I'm 4 months out and was terribly exhausted for at least 10 weeks, which I didn't expect, but I'm 101 pounds down and would do it again in a heartbeat. -
I feel like i am not sleeved
Miss Mac replied to happpy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I feel hungry and it is not time to eat yet, I wait untiI have sipped a 10 oz bottle of Water. Usually the urge goes away. Another option is sugar-free popsicles. My vice has been artificial sweeteners, which I realize now are teasing Miss Tummy for the taste of something sweet. I stopped sweeteners on Sunday and the scale (which has been stuck for six months) has started moving again. Stalls are quite common around the third week post-up. It is like your body is pausing to regroup. In the meantime, eat your Protein first - all of it, before eating other foods. This will help you feel full, and the feeling lasts longer than if you eat something starchy. Starches make you hungry for more starches. -

Changes in body image as you've lost weight?
Jachut replied to chatty826's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had really large breasts, they were an E cup (which is about a DD in US terms I believe, our cup sizes are a bit different) but becuase I'm 5ft 10, nobody would have said my boobs were a stand out feature. They were just kind of right for the height and weight I was. Since then they've shrunk to a C. The only reason I'm upset is that they're a mess, very droppy with a lot of stretch marks on top of them (from puberty). I was desperate for a time there, they were just awful and I couldnt show any cleavage or chest in anythign I wore becuase they just puddled there, the skin was all ripply and had no body or oomph to it, it was would move like Water, ick. But as they shrunk even more, that didnt go away but now they fit INSIDE everything, meaning I can show my chest again, but my boobs dont fall out of everything. I like smaller boobs, I want a lift but DH is (I think) angling for implants too but I wont do it, I have no desire to have big norgs, C is nice, there's a breast there, but it doesnt ruin clothes, grab attention etc. So shrinkage is a bonus from my point of view. -

I was so hungry around this same time. Day 3-4 post op. I had to do everything to get my mind off food. Hey, go get a pedicure or manicure!!! Once I got on mushies it was so much easier! HANG IN THERE YOU CAN DO THIS!! I have lost 10 lbs since surgery 2/19/08, but now I am in banster hell and everything is Ok to eat and no fill until 4/03/08! -
The way I look at it we will all be lightweights along the way in this journey one way or another. BMI is kind of a bogus number to me. I will never leave the "overweight" category even if I had 5% body fat because of my frame. I will probably end up changing my goal weight at some point once I know what will get me to at or under 10% body fat (healthy percent for male). I may adjust that just depending on how things look and feel down at that weight. The point is weight and BMI are just numbers--This is a mental game and its about loosing that fat. If I get to 210 and hit my low body fat I won't push and loose muscle just to get below 200... We will see how it goes! look I'm a lightweight now at 35.2 bmi haha!

hey All. Things have been going really good for me with this band and havnt had any major issues, but I got my 5th fill in March and ever since than I get heartburn just about every day. at first it was just once in a while but now its sometimes 2x a day..its always after I eat or take pills and most things cause the heartburn, I noticed its mostly really dense foods and meat that cause it...and since I am trying to stay more low carb now I get it even more now. It normally goes away after taking tums or zantac but its getting really annoying and uncomfortable. I was to go back for a fill appointment last week but I canceled it because I feel like I am pretty much at my sweet spot..I dont get stuck alot but I am very careful and I dont FEEL like Im too tight...but maybe I am? I never had a heartburn issue before my last fill so I am thnking maybe I am a little too tight...I just dont want to cause an issue with my band or if this heartburn is harmless and just a side effect I have to deal with? Any suggestions or anyone experience this who talked to their doctor?

First of all, let me thank everyone for your support & encouragement. I am very excited to start my journey. To EmilyGrace: I complete understand where you are coming from, but what I think finalized my decision was this thought: Everyday probably millions of people around the world have elective cosmetic surgery such as breast implants, tummy tucks, and face lifts (where they put staples in your head!) No one ever dies from having small boobs, extra skin hanging from their midsection or wrinkles! But there are so many problems that come along with obesity. After struggling with weight over the last 10-15 years and being on the losing end of the battle, I've had enough. So this is my elective cosmetic surgery that may end up actually saving my life. I've been through two c-sections which is a much more serious surgery imo. And getting my life back and actually feeling proud to be in pictures with my 4 children instead of hiding behind the camera is WELL worth the risk I will be taking! Not to mention I have very high confidence in the surgeon I have selected. I've heard nothing but postive things about him and I feel confident that I am in skilled, trustworthy hand. Thank you so much for your concern, but I for sure feel ready to do this. That doesn't mean of course that I'm not nervous, I'd be crazy not to, but it comes from a good place. Wish me luck everyone! My date is 8/5/10.

I would do a search for BCBS. There are plenty of stories. I have medical managed by BCBS and was denied several times before I was approved. My requirements were 6 months supervised diet, EGD, at least 2 NUT visits, cardiac and psych clearance. 40 BMI - no comorbidities req 35-40 BMI - comorbidities req >35 BMI - not covered Those are the Medical BCBS reqs. Yours might be different HW 385 SW 359 Sleeved 10/5/16
