    Maintaining weight when working out

Congratulations on goal. Are you working with a trainer or on your own? You may want to make an appointment with a sports medicine dietician or a trainer that has an education in nutrition. It will take grazing and a bit of trial and error to figure out what works for you and your sleeve. This would be great question to post maintaining thread. Link below https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/425802-the-maintenance-thread/?tab=comments#comment-4782396 I hit goal at six months out. My surgery restriction was tight. It took grazing and carbs to slow/stop my weight loss. Years out, I have less sleeve restriction. Getting nutrition in to lift or distance run is easier over time. After hitting my weight loss goal, I started making fitness goals. I love seeing results. Muscle does not happen overnight. Its helping to fill out my loose skin *smile*

    Loose skin and sex

I’ve lost 145lbs to date and feel great. I’m also single for the first time in my life, and have been on the dating scene for about a year. Dating has been a struggle because I am very open with my journey. I have lots of before and after Instagram pics and talk about it frequently. Weight loss is definitely my biggest personal accomplishment. It’s always a tipping point when I’m out with someone for the first time, trying to explain it to people who haven’t been or knows anyone who has gone through it. The loose skin has become a mental block. I feel like I look one way fully clothed and it’s a “surprise” when things take a sexual turn. I’m very self conscious about it. Most people I’ve been with don’t seem to care or at least pretend that they don’t. But I can’t help but feel like I’m in a “fraudulent package” if that makes sense. Anyone else feel this way?

Wow! Just wow! How did you get your skin so taut? #jealous It’s not. TRUST ME! I just finally can pull it off and will. Even though I’m 47. Lol.

  6. I’m at the point now where I’m looking at skin removal. I started at 285 I’m down to 160 and have a lot of extra skin on my stomach. It’s been a confidence low point for me, especially being a single woman. I feel like people don’t know what they are getting into with me and definitely don’t feel comfortable with the extra skin. Anyone else have skin surgery? What can I expect? What’s the cost like?

Keep! Keep! I almost bought those, too! Palazzo pants need to be a bit loose, otherwise they look like a '50s skirt! These look perfectly "flowy". I think that the way those are cut, you can hem them without them looking mis-proportioned. They would be super comfy for travel.

    Lap band revision

I’m a band to mini-gastric bypass and it was the BEST decision I ever made. I had trouble with my band from the get-go. It sprung a leak early on so I never got restriction and spent the first nine months of my honeymoon wondering why I could still eat a full steak and everyone else was complaining about being full after a teaspoon of tuna. Had it fixed but it never really worked. Either too tight or too loose and when I moved O/Ṣ I just gave up and ate around it. I used to feel embarrassed to tell people I’d had a Lapband years ago and yet here I was north of 140 kilos. I’m about ten months out from my revision, surgery went brilliantly. My surgeon did a single operation to remove the band and give me my bypass but he had to make my stomach pouch larger b/c of Lapband scarring. I don’t mind b/c I’ve slowly lost 2/3rds of my excess weight, am just about to hit Onderland and I feel bloomin’ brilliant. Even if I never lost another kilo I love my life so much more now.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Way to go! You shouldn't be embarrassed to post...you're looking awesome! Thanks to the rest of you posting photos. I work in a large Federal agency so I run into certain people every few months or so. Today one of these people did not even recognize me. That was a little weird, but it goes to show how dramatic my weight change has been. I remember going to my first required support group after the surgery and how one guy said he was struggling with wanting to wear big clothes all the time. I thought that was odd, but I get it now. It feels so good to wear shorts that are actually loose and not digging into me. It feels wonderful.

    Are You Ready For This

I was in the same boat last year - wanting to get the surgery by the end of 2018 since the deductable had been met.....but it didn't happen, even though I let the office know from the beginning that I wanted it done by the end of the year. There were delays and errors in losing documentation, submitting incomplete info to the insurance company which led to denial, then resubmission, etc, etc. I ended up having surgery in Feb 2019. But it turned out OK, because there have been a lot of expenses this year, too. Some ER visits for a blood clot, lab work, and various followups with other doctors to take care of other matters - sleep doctor, orthopedist, PCP. I need a new sleep study now, mammogram, bone density test, and I may get my upper eyelids done due to decreased field of vision. I am sure I will meet my deductable again this year, so am trying to wrap up all the "loose ends" and get everything done in 2019. If you don't get your surgery by the end of the year, there will be lots of opportunities to make up for it next year. Don't fret too much over it. You can only do what you can do. Trust it will work out for the best either way, which it will. Best wishes!

I rarely work out my arms and I have quite a lot of loose skin. You can tell from this side photo that my arms look massive -- lots of this is loose skin. Plus a tummy sjot to show what I'm carrying underneath! *sigh* Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a tummy tuck! Sent from my CPH1719 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fatty cysts

And add me to Lipona Lane! I asked my ortho ( because I darken HIs Door most often) told me what it was, I confess it was just a blob at first to me, consulted a general SURGERY person, broad nearly yawned in my face " You can walk around with THAT. the rest of your life not going to hurt You None!" pafooey, IT DISTRESSES ME TO LOOK At It! That was at least 6 months ago, now the blob on the left upper arm is encroaching over onto my antcubital vein and I have one starting in about the same place on the right inner elbow and a biggish one has developed over the bottom of my right arm scar where my humeral fracture was surgically repaired. Well one of my favorite cable shows is "Dr Pimple-popper" she's a Dermatologist so got referall to local one. Also a big fat mistake, first she told me not to be concerned about the big dark spots over my now prominent cheekbones, the family legends were true after all, I do have some Native American blood in my American Mongrel mix, only explanation I can come up with . I now look like serveral paternal cousins, just a different color pallet! She told me to be grateful as fair as I am, I don't have Skin Cancer. Shoot I never thought Cancer, I wanted something to eradicate or at least fade these marks, had people who would like to mind my business tell me they look like healing bruises. Then we got to my lipomas, each look like halved 🎾 balls, told me " Why don't you ask a General Surgeon? " Who the flying Whoopie- Doopies does She Think sent me to her? It was thoroughly useless waste of my time, but I see on my after- visit she billed my insurance like she actually repaired these things! Enough Gall to be divided in 3 parts, I'm thinking! So when I go for my Bariatric today, I will ask if there is a Surgical someone at Martha Morehouse Pavillion I could at least speak with, even if it is largely cosmetic , looking at them distresses me, Lost all this weight to look blobby and lumpy? Sob Sob, it ain't FAIR😪😥

FANTASTIC! And I see you are at the gym. If you are working out on your arms, do you see loose skin or are you building muscle there? I see no loose skin on you.

I was 287 when I had sleeve surgery 0ct 2016 went down to 199 and back up to 237.9 ,just had RNY revision surgery on July 16th due to severe reflux getting worse with the sleeve. I am 4 weeks post OP and I am down 24 lbs. You look awesome and I am wondering how you got rid of any excess skin and no batwing arms. Mine already flap in the wind and I just hate it. You look so happy and confident. Congratulations. Allie in SC
  19. Oh Karen and Chiptress, What a whole new life awaits you! Being able to slide past people in narrow places, able to lean and reach over the bed or furniture, sitting in a chair and you can see the chair on both sides of your legs, being able to cross your legs, not having your thighs rub together, not having the red rashes and fungal rashes under skin folds during the summer, feeling COLD!, being the smallest person in the room instead of the biggest, buying cute clothes in the regular department instead of the Plus size, being able to fit comfortably with room to spare in any restaurant booth, happily standing in the FRONT row for pictures, actually going wearing a swim suit and going into the pool like everyone else, and yes hiking, walking, riding a horse, kayaking, and being able to do anything you darn well please! Commit wholly to the new lifestyle! Gradually add new exercise routines and stick with the food plan. Tell yourself, "I AM NEVER GOING BACK!" You gals are going to do great and a year from now you will be amazed at the "new you!"
  20. Um, this is all I could come up with and now it has made me want to ask my Dr. as I never knew there was RNY Proximal and RNY Distal. It's like the more I learn, the less I know. Here is the info on distal that I found. Someone set me straight if this is wrong. Since my BMI at one time was about 60 and when I met my surgeon it was in the mid 50's - I now wonder....if our Dr doesn't say do those of us who have RNY "assume" we had proximal rather than distal? I qualify..and still do in the super obese group. RNY Gastric Bypass (Distal)- usually performed for patients who are in the super obese group (BMI over 50). Depending on their obesity, more small intestines are bypassed when the obesity is more severe to help them lose more weight. When more intestines are bypassed, there will be less intestinal surface for absorption of calories, especially fat. This results in more frequent bowel movements per day. If fat is consumed in the diet, fat will be digested less, and will be eliminated undigested. This may create foul smelling, loose stools. Indication for this procedure is reserved for bigger patients, or for those patients who have failed their original gastric bypass. Patients with the distal gastric bypass may need other fat soluble vitamin supplements, such as Vitamin A, D, E, and K, depends on how long their small intestine is bypassed. Patient follow up is very important to make sure they are metabolically and nutritionally healthy.

    Struggling with family

Ppl need to realize you can be 100lbs and still be unhealthy! But yes I agree we are mostly looking to have a better life. Stop the harm we are doing to our organs and our heart! Sure if We're able to look and feel better that's just a bonus but there are people that make the choice to have surgery even if it means living with loose skin.. Not every one is vane

    Fatty cysts

I was wondering today if after surgery these marble size lumps in a variety of spots on my body (Dr says they are harmless adipose or fatty tissue cysts) will eventually dissolve or will I end up looking like a big skin bag with some loose marbles stuck to the sides? Does anyone else have these?
  23. I can't wait to start my skin removal journey!!!
  24. Most of us have never and may never see our "ideal" body weight as defined by the ASMBS/Insurance Chart and that's because it's an archaic formula based on 1950's weight people. So it's pretty unrealistic for most of us, but nevertheless, it's the formula used by ASMBS certified doctors (COE docs) the world over. Here's how it's figured for a woman: 100lbs for the first 5 feet of height + 5lbs for every inch over 5 feet. Sample: 5'4" woman would have an "Ideal" weight of 100 + (4x5) = 120lbs I'm 5'4" and very average but have some extra skin. But at 120lbs I think I would look pretty damn skinny. But you may be saying "ideal" as in your "BDG" = Barbie Dream Girl weight? Which is anything you dream it to be...but that may be how YOUR goal will be determined, it just isn't the way your doc or RD determines your target goal or the projected % EBW loss (excess body weight loss).
  25. My surgeon's office never gave me a goal weight. I am going with 190 though. I'm 5'10", and I've lost 250 pounds at this point, so I have excess skin all over, which adds weight to me.
