Slimband - Cuts off TLBC Patients
Kico1970 replied to bellacatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too....banded in 2008.....band started to fail me about 5-6 years later....no support from clinic....same was what many of you are stating. I want justice and revision surgery. Sickens me that Dr Yau is rolling in his millions laughing with a slight slap to his hand while we all suffer. -

Hi-- All too familiar to me... I was a TLBC patient in Jan 2008.....MIDBAND band put in...major pain in left shoulder immediately following surgery.....no support from clinic....was successful loosing weight initially....but at the 5-6 year mark started to gain back. Have now gained 60% of weight back. Clinic now under new branding..etc will not support. I found Dr Yau a couple of years ago....got a referral...I have issues with heartburn/indigestion/pain in left lower abdomen...etc. He did agree to see me....literally yelled at me in his office saying the band is the not failure...that I am the failure and that I need to learn how to eat....bla bla bla...and that I needed to get serious and take a look at my life and stop blaming the band for what I am doing wrong. I was devastated and in tears. He agreed to do a scope - which was a waste of my time...all I heard was that I was fine and needed to learn how to eat healthy. That was the end. So now I have a failed band....I am unhappy....don't feel great most of the time....and can not get fills/defills and have this device now that I can't do anything with. I am interested in revision surgery but really can't put any more money into this. Do any of you fell Ontarians have any advice? This has cost so much.....the cost to myself both financially and emotionally....and the stress on my marriage...etc. This man should be ashamed of himself. I hope he has trouble sleeping at night while he rolls on his millions of dollars which is likely stashed in his mattress. -
Need Sleeve revision but..,
Shrinking_Shamrock posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Starting weight was 219, current weight 171, lowest weight 158, still classified as obese. Had my surgery 3 years ago and am doing everything right but my body is on strike as far as dropping the weight. My main question is (yeah, I know, I shoulda said, "hey everyone I've got a question", ...sorry).., will the state Medicaid/Medicare pay for it or will I have to pinch my pennies to afford it? Sent from my SM-J260T1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I have real hunger too and it started maybe 4-6 months post op. I have noticed that: foods with higher sugar/carb content make me hungrier for more foods, thinner foods even proteins will leave me hungrier quicker as well, drinking more makes me less hungry especially hot things, I cycle different varieties of foods in and out of my schedule, I revise and remove things from my diet as often as I need to when they no longer work for me, clean salads are like freebies in that I can eat as much as I want and its still only like 100 safe cals. Lots of trial and error in a safe space has helped. Don't give up for a moment. 💜

Surgery is tomorrow and I think my anxiety has gone through the roof
bubbz333 replied to Jon_gets_skinny's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Jon_gets_skinny How are you doing? How did everything go with your surgery? My surgery is just under 3 weeks away and this is my second one (being revised to bypass from sleeve) and I am so nervous. -
Gastric Sleeve to Bypass revision
krash11 replied to Chaelove0810's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the sleeve for 3 years before my revision. I lost twenty lbs initially then re-gained 60 lbs. There was no restriction at all. I also developed Barrett's Esophagus from the gerd. Since getting the revision in December, I have lost 42 lbs and the reflux is gone. Don't hesitate to do it. -
I had a sleeve revision to MGB a couple of years ago. Im almost back to my original weight. The reflux has put me in a really bad place and just had 3 tests done to figure out what is going on. I found out today that when my MGB was done that the pouch created was almost the size of a regular stomach, so my best advice is to do your research when it comes to your doctor and know their process and success rate. If they have 98 amazing outcomes and 2 bad....don't dismiss the 2 bad ones....Im one of those and Im miserable.

Had my third test today, an endoscopy. I was in a twilight sleep, but very aware of what was being said during it (it's always fun when you hear several people in the room saw "WOW"). The doctors were in awe. They said that the pouch that was created to be my new stomach was not made nearly as small as it needed to be. It was basically almost the same size as a normal stomach and because of the locations where they decided to cut, that by body was basically mass producing acid and bile and it caused a large series of ulcers. Once they treat the ulcers, they need to revise the surgery again because this will just keep happening. Hindsight is always 20/20 but the MGB was definitely a mistake for me personally

I dealt with stomach pain before and am dealing with it now. Been on 6 weeks of protonix faithfully and no change. I have 3 more weeks to see a change and if not I'm going to do an endoscopy. I'm not sure if I regret the sleeve or not. Also, I have only lost 2 pounds this month and am only 2 months out. I have however lost 45 pounds. I'm not sure if I would do a revision or not. Maybe if it was the shortest bypass allowable. Not sure if that would help me or not?

Revision surgery from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve
Lelina posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just saw my gastric surgeon today and he definitely suggests taking out my Lap Band but revising it to gastric sleeve. I am quite confused, which one should I do, sleeve or mini gastric bypass? Thanks everybody for answering, in advance -
Lost over 130lbs, never dieted, crash coming soon?
deltagirl93 posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi, I had a revision from the lap-band to SIPS on 2/14/18. While I eat better by cooking more and making better choices, I'm by far not a perfect eater. I don't count carbs, fat grams, calories, or anything. I just have my meals and try as best I can to eat a "reasonable" amount. I am big on exercise, and I do that for 4-5 days a week for at least an hour to two hours. I have lost weight every single month since the surgery, from as high as 21lbs one month to .2 another month, but again, every month has been a losing month. I'm down from 296.7 to 160.8 as of today which is a little over 14 months out. BMI charts say for my height, I should be around 155lbs. I'm thinking that this is just too good to be true. When is it all going to start caving in or catching up with me? Will I really have to diet or count calories at some point to maintain or is this really my new life. Because if it is, I can really live with this. Anyone else not really dieting, but still losing? -
Good morning! RNY revision 4/3/19 HW 271 SW 260 CW 250 is anyone else having a hard time getting all liquids and calories in? I’ve been so tired. My surgeon told me to eat 800 calories a day and drink at least 64 oz. I’m finding it hard with 30 mins before/after eating. also. When can we have real coffee? 🤣🤣

Gastric Sleeve to Bypass revision
Chaelove0810 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My name is Michaela I am 29 I am considering getting a revision to the gastric bypass. I had the sleeve exactly 3 years ago. I am 5’4 at my heaviest I was 272 and got down to 174 now I’m back up to 222. I am super depressed because I don’t know how I let this get this bad. I’m looking for stories of people who have had this revision and what made them decided to do it and how much the have lost so far. Also people who are looking into getting the surgery and what made you decide to look into it. -
Our doctors no longer utilize opiates for pain control. I am terrified this go around. This surgery is a revision to bypass. They give you a high dose of Gabapentin in the morning before surgery and IV Tylenol after. After the sleeve I had a pca pump for 24 hrs and went home with a strong pain med for 1 week. I am terrified because I have Crohns amd my intestines are prone to spasm.

So today is the first day of my (Liver Shrink) Pre-Op Diet. My GBS is April 30th. Gulp. I’m a sleeve to by-pass revision. New surgery due to esophageal damage from GERD and regain 😞. Moving forward with my head held high, using my mantra “it’s just fuel” to change my thinking about my former best friend named food. Wish me luck!

I am a revision from RNY to DS. I will be self financed as my insurance turned me down for this 2 years ago. I am back going through the pre-tests, etc. They have me seeing the nutritionist for the 3 months as before. My understanding previously is that the 3 month requirement is for insurance purposes. Since I am not going through insurance I asked if this was still a requirement. I have done all the other tests and have been cleared. I was told that I had to do the 3 month nutritionist. It doesn't make much sense to me since I am a revision, understand all the dietary requirements (also since I did the 3 month nutrition 2 years ago) and the last time lost 10 lbs. Needless to say I am not getting much in the way of true responses just "this is what you have to do". So I am doing it. My question is, does anyone know if I can get "denied" if I don't lose any or enough weight? I have stayed the same weight for 2 years (even the doctor noted that I am stable). I have terrible back issues (another reason for surgery so I can exercise and avoid back surgery) so I can't really exercise. I was down at my goal weight for 9 years, totally know how I gained the weight back (tragic family situations and I stopped paying attention to my food and exercise, typical...) and am ready for the surgery. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences where they were "turned down" due to weight loss or lack of? Given that I am getting on the scale every day, I know I am the same. Any thoughts/insight would be appreciated.

Sleeve revision to bypass
Beckyonthebeach replied to Colorchic's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision on Thurs 4/18. Besides gas pains the first two days, I’m doing well. I am a little worried that I don’t feel the restriction I did with the sleeve at the beginning. I can drink as much as I want without any pain. -
Anyone had full bypass surgery??
taylormomto6 replied to allies journey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was revised 2/12/19. I was released from the hospital the evening of the day, mostly because I pushed to be released. When I woke up after surgery I was nauseous and dry heaving, but after a couple of hours it passed and I was walking 3 hours later. I was not allowed any liquids or anything until around noon the next day after they did the barium swallow test to make sure there were no leaks. After that they had me slowly introduce water, gradually adding a bit more each hour and by around 4 they brought me a tray with broth, iced tea and sf jello. If I could keep a few bites down I was good to go. I never had narcotic pain meds, just IV tylenol. I really didn’t have much pain but I did get a headache that wouldn’t go away. When I came home I was good, not exhausted like many. I’m not normally a napper and didn’t even nap when lounging around the days after surgery. By 2-3 days home I slept on my side and tummy, was getting in 40oz of fluid and about 30-40 g of protein in shakes. I have felt great. Surgery day weight was 230lbs, today I’m at 196.7. I’m getting about 600-700 calories a day in, 50-70g of protein and about 25 carbs. Because I’m a revision I am extra careful about what I’m eating and am on guard about making sure I’m not grazing. I’m determined not to fail this surgery! -
I saw way too many revisions from sleeve to bypass. I would never choose a sleeve

Anyone had full bypass surgery??
New&Improved replied to allies journey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You'll find dozens of posts on revision to bypass on this site! -
I had liposuction years and years ago when it was still new and it does nothing for weight loss. The fat cells come back and other ones are quite happy to store extra. My BMI was 32 when I got my band 10 years ago. I am of the view that people that are only a “ little bit obese” eventually become a “ lot obese” if they don’t do something early on. All those people that got to BMIs of 40 and above would once have had a BMI similar to yours. Did they manage to lose the weight with diet and exercise or WW, no, they needed surgical intervention. That is because obesity is complex and the solution is not as simple as just diet and exercise, if it was none of us would have a problem. I had to have my band out in Jan due to issues and I revised to an RNY, at that point my BMI was under 30. I am happy I did because after 56 years I know that I need help to control my weight, I can’t do it on my own.

From Denial to Appeal to Approval
allies journey replied to CharlotteWebb's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for responding to my post and I will definitely appeal if I get turned down. I have my surgeon and my gastrointestinal doctor fighting for my revision surgery so hopefully it will be resolved quickly. I hate being on so many meds for 1 problem and the meds are not working properly now so I'm desperate to find a solution. Thanks again. Allie Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
From Denial to Appeal to Approval
CharlotteWebb replied to CharlotteWebb's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got denied the first request for revision. My denial said, "You didnt follow your surgeons diet plan that's why we are denying your request for revision to rny." I wrote them back a very detailed letter citing I didn't want to lose more weight. I imcluded that the complications are taking a serious toll on my health amd asked them to reconsider and they did then approved me. They may deny you at first, appeal it. They aee doing their job trying to save their company money -
Dilemma on to do or not to do
Healthy_life2 replied to nssmia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@nssmia A thought, bmi 30 and over is obesity range, WIll lyposuction get you healthy long term or will you regain with that proceedure? I'm also concerned about all the posts recently about weight gain and revisions. Know there are many of us that bounce back from surgery with no complications and have kept the weight off. I had the sleeve in 2014. I reached goal in six months. I maintain in the 130's. Many people at goal or maintaining no longer need the support on this site.. the positive is not getting enough recognition. You will see mostly. People researching, new to wls complications, weight gain and a handful of vets that stick around I have a link of positive experiences to help balence out the other posts. It may help calm someone's anxiety. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app -
I really need a perspective on whether or not to have s sleeve. Bmi is 32. Weigh 200. 5'6" have 40# to lose. Already approved. Now having second thoughts. Not because of short term issues like pain, nausea, tiredness. really concerned about success after 2 years. I hear so many people commenting on revisions. Weight gain, etc. I'm trying to lose with weight watchers. It's a toss up of the sleeve vs liposuction in my tummy area. And arms. For contouring. Any comments appreciated. Question. For sleevers out 2 years and more, would u do it all over again Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app
