Some people have great luck/success with skin after WLS, some don't😳😭 Skin folds? Do you mean excess/loose skin? Unfortunately not everyone's skin snaps back. There's not much you can do about it once skin has lost elasticity. As you lose more the skin wont have fat sitting underneath so when the volume is lost the more stretched it may seem. I hope you have success! 💜

One of the things I’m looking forward to during my weight loss journey is saying good bye to my skin folds/creases.I have skin folds on my arms and thighs. I’ve already lost over 50 pounds since my VGS in May but the skin folds are still there! For my BariPals who have already accomplished your weight loss goals when did your skin folds (if you had some) go away? I’m just praying that they will naturally go away, even if with exercise, because I really don’t want plastic surgery.

Scared of loosing too much weight!
Krimsonbutterflies replied to Msbosse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was just having this conversation with my friend on Saturday night. A serious case of "what if's" , but what if I do nothing? I'm prediabetic, I have fluctuating blood pressure, asthma, morbid obesity and a few other serious symptoms. I need help and I also feel you on not wanting to melt away or look like my skin is melting off. Sooo, I understand the concerns you are having, semi-twin worey warts!!! -
I have been a thick girl my entire life. I had the lap band in 2012 and lost 80 pounds but gained 30 back. The band has been nothing but a complication. So I am having it removed and replaced with the sleeve. I am nervous 😬 that I will loose too much weight and become skinny. My husband and I want me to be healthy. I’m am in tears over being skinny. I know this seems weird but I am really nervous. I have always been thick and afraid for how I will look after. What I I don’t like what I see what if I hate myself. I even cried today due to this fear. This is me now the second picture at 230 and the first one is at my lowest weight 186. My doctor wants me down to 130 I just can imagine that!!

Fat and Carb intake at stage 3
Deedee12 replied to Bianca S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try my best to keep carbs at below 20 grams. I'm typically at 15 grams net carbs of an approximately 500 cals daily. Fat is negligible for me. It's typically fat in Yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta or my tablespoon of Olive oil. My plan says Dense proteins in fish, chicken, Turkey, canned Tuna, Tofu or eggs. And cooked green veggies OR soft fruits ( Berries except black berries, melon, Apple with skin off, fresh or canned with no syrup). All in 1/2 cup. For every 3 bites of protein, 1 bite of veggies. No starch, grains or sugar. So 60 grams to 80 grams proteins 15 to 20 grams carbs 10 to 15 grams fat Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hello! Waiting for surgery date
Bastian replied to SassyTwin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi @SassyTwin I am very new to all of this as I had a sleeve done on Aug 12th and an emergency bypass done a week later, so I hadn't read much on the bypass as that isn't what I went in for lol So, even though it had to be done nobody filled me in on the differences or the info I needed regarding the bypass. So you may well know most of these but I will share my questions and ponderings with you anyway. Take extra sleepwear/underwear just in case you end up in there longer than anticipated. Take basic toiletries Take some feminine hygiene products just in case, the sudden change in hormones from surgery and drastic weight loss so quickly caused a release of oestrogen from the fat cells which meant I needed some products, even though I am perimenopausal with a coil and haven't needed any for a while! (that was a shocker!) I wish I had taken a good body lotion in with me as I became very dry all over, my skin looked like it had aged 10 years everywhere I wish I had taken my own v-shaped pillow in as I found the hospital pillows really thin and pointless. (I got it in there in the end!) If you are on medication before you go in, find out about getting all of them in liquid form if possible. Take a heat pack and an instant ice pack or 2 You will be uncomfortable lying on your back if you are usually a side sleeper, so be mentally prepared Have a good protein powder ready at home that is a small scoop (genepro) rather than the one I currently have which is a large scoop and froths up too much. Have a good supply of savoury high protein soups ready at home because those of us with a Bypass don't seem to be able to tolerate the sweet one's post-op. Learn what you can about dumping syndrome so you can try and prevent it happening to you Learn what you can about being lactose intolerant post-op too, I didn't know this was a thing with bypass Read read read what you can on here, so much fantastic info, advice and support GOOD LUCK -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That sounds like a tough four weeks of camp! I have never gotten into exercising and now that my weight is leveling off I'm very discouraged. I've tried gym memberships many times and have lost a lot of money. If I enjoyed it and maintained it, I doubt I would have gotten as heavy as I was. I still have no interest. I've gained two pounds from my lowest weight and feel as if the scale is set and I now I need to work really, really hard to maintain the weight I am at now (even though I was hoping to be a size 8, not 12). I have to be honest with myself: I'm not going to be able to keep it off with exercise. 😞 Maybe someday as you all inspire me. I'm sure Gladiator classes would kill me too. Good luck to you! Last night I had dinner with a friend who is about 8 years older than me and she is considering botox. I know I look older since the weight loss and have been wondering about going down that road. Has anyone done it? What do you think about it? I have so many other areas I also want to work on, like a breast reduction. I swear the girls are just flapping into each other now and it's ugly and uncomfortable. The extra tummy skin is yech, but tolerable with shapewear. Sorry for the complaining. I do feel blessed to have been able to lose 60 lbs since surgery, but am at a scary point. I have done too much googling about people who have gained some or all of their weight back since gastric bypass. To be honest, I didn't even think gaining all the weight back was doable! What about the lack of absorbing calories? Can I really stretch out that egg-shaped stomach so much? It's daunting. The surgery was tough, the mental prep was tough....where is the good news about people who have kept it all off? I need to start reading success stories! -
Hello everyone. My name is Iza, i had my sleeve surgery done March 14,2018. Back then my weight was 166 lbs. and could never loose a few pounds without gaining a few extras every time I did diet and exercise so I decided to get surgery. At first i felt great! I was loosing pounds and when i reached 130 I loved my body. However here I am a year and 6 months after and still loosing pounds something that I don’t want anymore 😩. My skin looks dry and I’m getting way too skinny now I’m a size 2 gaining 115. How can I stop from loosing weight and actually start gaining a little. I get full really easily when I eat and I’m some occasions make me feel nauseous if I push myself into eating.

I can't speak to the liquid diet pre-op because I didn't have to do that, but I can tell you what I packed. I put a few pairs of underwear, socks, some loose shorts and shirts as well as a comfy sports bra. I didn't wear any of it. I also brought shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, and other small toiletries because hospital stuff sucks but again, all I used was the toothbrush and toothpaste. I brought a book too but didn't read it. If I wasn't sleeping I was walking on the unit, during the other times I played on my phone. I didn't even watch TV while I was there.

Okay, so I have a sports bra recommendation, and this feels like the place to put it. When I started out in the 280s, I bought myself 2 shefit sports bras, in the hopes that the adjustability would make them last longer for me as I lose. Okay, so I JUST replaced them. My old size was 4luxe, my new is just Luxe. So those 4Luxes saw me through soooo many sizes. The Velcro is now as tight as it will pull on them, and on my new one it’s as loose as it will go, but still, I can’t think of another type of sports bra that would last that long, especially for running. They are spendy, very, but due to the adjustability, totally worth it. https://shefit.com/products/ultimate-flex-sports-bra-valor?variant=20674396291126

IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE???
GreenTealael replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree completely with the above responses. Yes some of us do not exercise much for various reasons. But I've noticed *personally* that exercise, specifically weight training, gives better results in muscle tone and tighter skin (to an extent) vs when I don't exercise. Be consistent and the weight will come off as it should. But be patient too (at 6-12 months out start evaluating if you're getting what you desire from the surgery) -
Well I'm showing up here to relate my take. it's incisional but a little different. I just had a volar ganglion cyst REMOVED, to educate you a little it was on the back of my Left wrist a little ways from the thumb. ABOUT AS BIG AS A QUARTER. Now they are always non- cancerous, many people just leave them alone, some have them REMOVED from appearance. Mine sat right over top of a nerve and the radial artery, my thumb and 1st finger would go Numb in between sessions of pain. So Cyster J Cyst had to go! It says prominately on my chart and paperwork- No Hibiclez- No chlorhexadine- because I am very allergic to them. Found out when I had my 2nd knee replacement and my leg blistered and about lost skin peeling off. Don't know what my orthopaedic surgeon painted my arm with this time, thought maybe betadine, never a problem with THAT. Well within a day my arm started o I blistering and peeling skin, had to at d it , wash it off with gentle soap and water, then when dry put on cortisone cream and re-h it. Its now 4 days past, yesterday I had to do it again, this time the whole lower arm, even where my incision was. He doesn't plan to remove the stitches until September 11, so I was at a loss. Finally remembered I had some dressing change kits from when I had my PICC line in for malnutrition/ giving my gastrointestinal ulcers a chance to heal. Never washed the surgical wound itself, didn't want contamination there, but put on Tegaderm and then re-wrapped it with all new gauze. Today the bumpy rash is going away, Goody Goody Gumdrops, feel like I dodged the bullet there but if any of you have similar symptoms with your tummy wounds ,at least let your doctor know, go to the ER, nobody wants to suffer with a rash like MINE. And yes, when I see him on the 11th I SHALL FIND OUT what was used, it needs to go on my chart ---NEVER AGAIN! In just a few months I am scheduled to have my Left Rotator cuff repaired and THIS WILL NOT happen AGAIN!✊! There have got to be other alternatives to what was used.👍

I’m in Boca Raton and some people in this area speak highly of Dr. Shillingford. He didn’t work out for me but they offer a flat rate all inclusive package that covers everything for gastric sleeve at $10,500. I had a hard time with my insurance due to not meeting their comorbidities even though I have plenty of medical problems. I have metabolic disorders, insulin resistance, bone and joint problems, I couldn’t prove my sleep apnea, (the list is long) I fought my weight gain so hard but In the end I ended up qualifying based on BMI, though no one ever told me exactly what qualified me. After a long fight they finally did. What made things work better was when an endocrinologist referred me to Cleveland Clinic, and I already had record of my weight loss efforts with her and my general practitioner for months. The endocrinologist and surgeon wrote letters for my insurance as well. I was referred to Cleveland clinic because the process is not as complicated. It’s hard for me to travel but I don’t think it would have happened without my dr at Cleveland Clinic. BariatricPal actually has a surgery center in Mexico if you can travel. Compared to Dr. Shillingford, sleeve is $4,900 flat rate all inclusive in a highly rated facility. If I could possibly even consider it at some point, I would go there for dealing with excess skin. It looks like an excellent hospital that’s an affordable option for self pay. https://bariatricpalhospitalmx.com/weight-loss-surgeries/

Just curious if there are things that you were either 1) glad you brought with to the hospital or 2) you wish you had thought to bring to the hospital. Or heck, anything you brought that was a total waste to bring lol My surgery is on Wed Sep 4th and I want to be prepared! I don't want to bring anything more than I need (plus as a nurse I know how much personal stuff can get in the way lol). I have to bring my CPAP, so that is a given. And my inhaler if I can find it (never use it lol). I will wear a loose comfy shirt and pants to/from the hospital and obviously bring clean underwear. I am sure I will want my own brush and toothbrush (going to forgo most toiletries since it is only an overnight stay). A decent pair of shoes to walk the halls in (thinking crocs because they are easy). I read someone comment that they were glad they had a pillow for the car ride home to hold against their belly, and will probably want to use it in the hospital (hate hospital pillows). Maybe I will have hubby put a blanket in the car too for the long ride home (oh wait, it is going to be 100 degrees, so maybe not lol). I know I will want my phone after surgery (hubby can hold it during surgery). The obvious: Insurance card (in hubbies wallet). Did you need your picture ID? I assume I will get a call about that this weekend from the hospital. Wasn't really planning to bring much else... but am I forgetting anything I should have? Kind of sad right now... they mentioned they might move me to September 3rd due to a cancellation, but it is Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend. If they haven't moved me already, I doubt it is getting moved! I call the hospital on Tuesday afternoon for the exact time I need to be at the hospital on Wednesday. Anxious to get this over and done with!

My Plastic Surgery Thread
Darktowerdream replied to sillykitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@mousecat88 I had breast reduction surgery many years ago, I can’t even remember what year anymore. At the time I went to a clinic in NYC and for medical reasons my insurance paid, the doctor was awesome though and fought for me when the insurance was being problematic. I didn’t even know my actual bra size, the biggest I found in stores at the time was 34 DDD. Knowing what I know about bra sizes now I know It was much bigger than that. I can’t even guess. Similar to yours I was practically to my belly button. I asked to be as small as possible and I do not remember my bra size (average was maybe 34 C at the time) Right now I’m around a 30G or 30F in UK sizes. I kept some Freya Deco bras that I barely got to wear before my weight went up again and they are finally fitting again. I suck at getting to the point. I was bullied in my early teens because my chest practically grew overnight and drastically. It was dense solid tissue and caused terrible problems. When I had surgery I was struggling with my weight. But i needed it. When I first lost weight I hated my extra skin. And now as I fight this all again I worry about the cost of surgeries like these. But I so badly want to be able to at least have a thigh lift. Although remembering how it was back then I wouldn’t mind a tummy tuck and breast lift also ... at the least. My body shape also changed after hysterectomy and from degenerative disc disease and scoliosis. I’ve never had good body image. Maybe now they would call it body dysmorphia. BariatricPal has a surgery center in Mexico. I think that’s the only way I could come close to “affording” it. But I live on a small disability check. It took a lot of scrimping and saving to afford my computer. And I just had to get help with the cost for renovating my bathroom. Which I couldn’t even use for several years. I know it’s too soon to think about it. But for once in my life I just want to feel comfortable in my skin, at least a little bit. And not feel like the bullied kid who hates how they look and won’t wear swimsuits let alone anything shorter than Bermuda shorts. -
My Plastic Surgery Thread

Nipple grafts are very sensitive, lol. I was applying Neosporin to it and turned out I have an allergy to Neosporin. Started causing the skin to turn black and fall off. -
Don’t hold yourself back from living life to the fullest. I guarantee you your loose skin is a FAR bigger deal to you, than anyone you might meet.

February 2019 weight loss buds
Recidivist replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So, I saw my surgeon and nutritionist today. Here are the highlights: - My surgeon thinks my weight has stabilized (147 today) and that I should now start maintenance. She said I should increase my calories to 1200 per day to start with and see how things go. I can tweak it as I go along to find the sweet spot where I'm no longer losing nor gaining. She did say I can expect a gain of 5-10 pounds once I'm on maintenance. - Both of them told me it's very natural to be able to eat more at this point. They said that eating more is fine as long as you continue good habits and know when to stop. - My surgeon was actually happy that I'm able to drink so much water and said it was not an issue. (I'm getting 90-120 oz per day.) - They both said I should not be counting calories nor grams of protein if I have a good sense of what works for me--and I do. They said the strict calorie counting and measuring was more of a learning tool during the first few months and was not intended to be a life-long habit. - They said I should eat more fruits and vegetables, even if it means getting a bit less protein. That made me very happy! Otherwise, they were very pleased with where I am. The surgeon said my saggy skin was not that bad compared to other patients, which made me feel better! -
Hello Everyone, I was banded 2/27/2012. The band has been nothing but problems for me. My primary doctor has been wanting me to get this removed but I was scared. The doctor that did my lapband isn’t doing it anymore so I had to find another surgeon. I finally had my appointment with him and couldn’t be happier. I did loose some weight but back at 230. My lowest was only 186 in 2014. I am having a revision to the sleeve. Can’t wait for my surgery date but I am excited.

Okay so I ended up NOT buying this dress bc it was fitting me a bit loose in places and they didn’t have one a size smaller, but I wanted to post anyway, lol I was struggling this afternoon and was grumpy and emotional so I went shopping to try on some clothes to refocus myself on my plan. Sigh....I want to wear shorter dresses so badly and my legs just look so chubby. Also, I get bruises on my shins all of the time at work

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Sheribear68 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So today was a trial, and honestly it wasn’t because of my fast. I’ve been told I don’t have a cavity or anything wrong with my sore tooth. And I can guarantee I trust the dentist, because he’s my dad. So when dad told me he thought I just had some gum inflammation and there wasn’t anything to fix, I got grumpy. Then I got a call on my way back home that the Pilates studio still doesn’t have power so all classes were cancelled. Now I’m double-grumpy. And at that point it was almost 4:30 my time and I still had 2 hours til I was scheduled to break my fast I got home and almost caved and drank my protein shake. What I did instead was head to a strip mall and try on some clothes. I didn’t buy any (except for some new yoga pants), but it kept my mind on my goals. FYI guys, no idea if I will drop any poundage this week, but my bod is still shrinking like crazy. Tried on some size 12 clothes and some were actually LOOSE. Just sat down with 1/2 a PP shake for 15gm protein and then I’ll try to eat some leftover pork and salad in a bit. Overall today was a huge success as far as staying on plan went -
Milestone #1 just passed
AngieBear replied to AngieBear's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you! TBH - my personality hasn’t changed that much. I was an extrovert at 300 lbs, and still am. I was confident then, and still am. I am so much more comfortable in my skin now, though. All of the outdoor activities I love are easier. And though I was confident in who I was internally then, my self-esteem in regards to my appearance has improved tremendously, and hopefully will continue to. -
ITCHY! Can I put lotion around my incisions?
Bastian replied to PeachPerfect's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing would be an antihistamine tablet and some unscented lotion for the dry skin 3 weeks out the wounds are closed on top. so as long as you don't pick at them all will be well.
