Revision Lapband to RNY
allies journey replied to Lady B 925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have not had my RNY revision surgery yet but if I were you I'd see if you can get someone as a standby in case you need anything. I have seen ppl on here that did great and a few that needed backup. Just to be safe keep a phone nearby and ppl in case you need them. Keep phone number s handy. Good luck with your surgery and keep updating your progress. Allie -
MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
Round2newme replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello guys I am back home and post surgery! I had my a lap band revision to gastric bypass on June 29. No visitors allowed but at least my surgery did not get cancelled. The first night was a drugged haze. I don’t remember much. The second day was awful. I could not take any pills or keep any water down. I kept throwing up or dry heaving. So, the doc kept me in the hospital a second night. The third day was good very little throwing up and i was really able to walk around the hospital floor a lot. I even did some work on the computer in the lounge which was awesome. The pain was pretty bad the first day post surgery. But by second day it was very mild. Today is my third post surgery and I feel no pain just a little discomfort when I bend down, twist or cough. Once home yesterday I started having some sore throat and coughing I remember feeling that in other surgeries so I think it is just from the anesthesia but if it does not improve I’ll contact my doctor. My only issue now is managing my type 1 diabetes. I have an insulin pump and all of my doses need to change and now I am having a few lows. But I keep my glucose tablets near and take one when I get below 70. I still have not had a bowel movement but I am hoping today will be the day. -
I had 6 weeks, and no I didn't. I had a hernia repair on top of a revision due to medical problems, so no. Just sit and recoup. You don't know what else is going on with the body and it does need to adjust.

Have you tried Dexilant ? That sleeve will give you restriction with all foods. That wont be the case with the bypass. ( at least not for me and others posting on this page) If you read through this thread there are a couple of ladies who have posted how much weight they have lost and how much harder it is . I am sure if your Dr. feels you need a revision you will lose the 30 lbs but something is telling me it will be harder to keep off if you are using the sleeves restriction to tell you when to stop eating. I am only a week in but that is what it is feeling like to me at this time. GL

Dr. Matthew Weiner has a lot of informational videos on YouTube. He covers a wide range of topics, I’ve learned a lot by watching him. This first video on metabolic thermostat/set point was a lightbulb moment for me. How bariatric surgery changes your hunger, metabolism and even your tastes for certain foods. Metabolic Thermostat This one is titled: Bariatric revisions, Will they help or not? Bariatric revision As always, listen to your own Doctor -
You guys are cracking me up!! Keep in mind ladies and gents that even a pound a day weight loss is HUGE!! the massive amount of weight loss can be but at this calorie count a pound a day is def fat. just make sure you all are getting your workouts in. That makes a huge difference!! I have still kept off the weight that I lost with this, and am still losing with the preop diet I am on. I can't wait to start the diet again. The soup is great for when you are feeling hungry. I agree that this diet makes your appetite go away, and I had more energy on it without taking in to many carbs. You guys are doing great!! I am glad this soup is helping so many people lose some and break their plateaus. Be sure to check with your doctor if you question the nutritional content of the diet. They may have some revisions to make depending on your situation. Good luck all!!!

Nurseamy's tummy tuck/Lipo/Mastopexy
nurseamy replied to nurseamy's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wow!! You guys are sure good for a ego!!!! To answer all the questions... Dr Adam is WONDERFUL!!! I had an area on both my breast like extra skin..kinda like a dog tag on my breast instead of hips and they were very obviois in my swimsuit so he did not make me wait the (6 months for revisions) He fixed them with no questions asked...after nursing three kids my breast now look like those of a 16yr old! This man is amazing!!! My tummy speaks for itself in the picture:biggrin:I do have horrible strechmarks on my thighs that mentally hinder my results, but o-well.Like my husband said I am not 21 anymore and have 3 kids to show for those strechmarks:rolleyes: I have a 4cc band and have been filled to 3.4 since last July.I did not touch it during surgery.I do not diet! I just eat smaller portions of whatever I choose.I do try and make better food choices but I am still human and those damn cotton candy blizzards at Dairy Queen are killing me!!! I can't eat bread(I can have a slice of toasted bread) but I will never be able to get a quarter pounder, fries and a coke down!! I do not eat and drink at the same time and I chew very slowly. If I eat to fast I get stuck...and that is not fun.I have not lost much since Christmas.I was 142 then and they took 10lbs off during plastic surgry.I probably could lose more but I am not the best example when it comes to food choices. It is summertime and we are in the boat/beach alot so sometimes lunch is chips and budlight:lol: I try and get to the gym 3-4 times a week and I walk on the treadmill on an incline...trying to tone up my thighs and rear.I usually do about 3miles.I have a 5lb dumbell at home that I do armlifts with almost daily(only a set of 50) I hope this answered most the questions. Thanks again for all the compliments!!!!! -
Why did you choose VGS instead of Bypass and any regrets.
AmyElizabeth01 replied to klock's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have lived with a lap band for 7 years or so and just had it changed for a sleeve. My surgeon is very pro sleeve and was glad to revise my surgery. I picked a vsg because you can make healthy food decisions and the malabsorption isn't as big a deal as an RNY. My doctor said the sleeve is the best tool he's ever had in wls. Most if the staff in his office have had it and they are all thrilled. -
Band to sleeve in one procedure
iamshazza replied to ette16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Found out I would have to go through a 6 week program and pay out around $300+ and then MAYBE my insurance would cover the revision surgery from band to sleeve. So I'm still on the fence about what I will do. I'm trying to buy a house and save money and then I'll have to move in October, so spending that kind of money right now isn't really ideal for me so I thought I might wait until next year as long as the gallbladder doesn't give me any more fits. I did get another fill in my band. I have more trouble with more foods now, but I'm losing weight, so I'm reluctant to say anything. I go back in a couple weeks anyway. I can eat solid foods, but not a lot and if I'm not careful it's painful I think when it's hitting the band and trying to pass through, but it is only a short burst of sharp pain. I just have to remember to be careful. This is the best I've done - as far as losing weight - with the band since the first week post op. -
June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
Lifeafter40 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got my approval today and my surgery date is June 3 and I am so excited. I wanted a May date but oh well at least I got an approval. I was sleeved in 2015 however it was unsuccessful. I am determined for this bypass to work. I wanted the bypass the first time but the surgeon suggested the sleeve. This is the last and final time can’t get another revision after this but I wouldn’t one another one. -

Hi June friends. I was revised VSG to RnY (related to GERD) on 6/4. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to poor intake and output. I’ve been home just over a day now and I’m doing well. Focusing on water, I am not tolerating protein shakes, I did find a couple things that I am tolerating today so finally had some intake. Pain has been minimal, I am Just exhausted. Excited for this next journey. I had about a 75# loss with VSG, and kept it off over 5 years, but was still 50# from original goal. -
Do you revise from sleeve to RNY due to GERD?
TiredOfMyself replied to SeattleLady's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was sleeved October 2016. I had horrible reflux daily and was on several meds. I still gagged and vomited up acid daily. I also gained back 25 pounds I had lost. I was snacking all the time because if my stomach was empty I threw up. I had my revision last Monday, September 2019. So far so good. No reflux. -

Maybe this will encourage you..... the coach on my daughter's volleyball team just had it done last Monday. I couldn't even tell he had surgery on Saturday. His wife had it too but it was fine on Wednesday and a revision from Lap band to sleeve and I could tell she had something done with her abdomen but didn't know what. I found out after the game. Everyone is different though. Determination plays a role too. Get up and walk as much as you can and you'll heal faster imo. -

WOW! what a ride. Much more than I expected. I am home. Trying to find something to drink that A. does not make my ankles swell. B. tastes tolerable.. I am still on the anitbiotics so I wonder if that is what makes every thing taste bad. Except S/F pudding. Sweet things taste OK. I am wanting something hot so I have been drinking herbal teas. Now, does any one have this swelling problem? Even with low sodium soups? Should I just make my own? seems such a waste as I can eat/drink only 1 or 2 oz at a sitting. The Experience was quite different. I really liked the care I recieved. If you choose Dr. Almanza. I would suggest the option of the hotel. I did not care for the recovery house. Here is why. rooms are small/tiny. no air conditioning. barking dogs outside. one shared bathroom upstairs. food is prepared down stairs for all. When you cannot eat that is hard to deal with. My hubby stayed there the two nights I was in the clinic/hospital. When I was to come out, he got us into the Hotel. I was concerned as I would not have a nurse, but, the fine staff brought me my meds and juices and teas and all was perfect. Hubby got American TV (baseball and football) He could go down stairs and get any food and drink he wanted. American newspapers, with sunday funnies. The Hotel provided free popsicles, soups, yogurts for me. Our room had two queen sized beds all soft and comfy. I had a table to sit and drink my meals, LOL. The hallway was safe/great to walk around for exercize. Walked at 12 and 2 AM one time, and, I got up to three times around before I left. The last night there I felt good enough to get dressed and go down for dinner. The Chef made me special soup, chicken broth blended with mashed potatoes. It tasted yummy. I am sure that is where the sodium overload started, but I loved that soup, all 1/4 cup of the huge bowlful they gave me..God I am still food obsessed, LOL I am sure the staff at the house does all this also. The nurse from the Clinic that did my IV came to the hotel and removed my drain tube. He was so good. (thanks again Edgar) I also had Sevier (on staff at house) come and give me a massage. He is excellent. My back was hurting and my right leg was numb from laying on my back for so long, so, he was a pleasant relief. Could not talk Hubby into massage, heehee. Overall my rating for the experience is an 8. (1 to 10) Here are my reasons for 2 points off. I would have liked to see the hand cleaning stations on the wall inside the rooms. I would have liked the appratias used to come in sealed bags that the nurses opened in front of me. I would have liked the nurses to put on gloves and dispose of them in my room. I wish the cleaning crew would come in after each shower and disinfect. I was lucky to be first both days. I hated (one full point off here) the drive clear across T.J to get the Xray Leak test done. yes, I understand the necessity, I still hated that dam trip. There was a parade outside the lab, so surreal. I know some go shopping and do stuff on their 3rd day, just not for me. I was finally ready on the 5th day. Felt good and upbeat. Finally felt good about what I had done. Met a lady that was escorting two friends having sleeves. (Canadian) She was 7 months out and looks soo cute. She is 5'7 and 165ish, So I have revised my goal to that. It has been so long since I was a "normal" weight I did not have a realistic goal in my head. I was 240 at weigh in, but 245 when I left. All the liquid retension I guess. Dr. Almanza got snippy with me under surgery,....I am a Moley person lots of raised moles. He asked my hubby for permission and they removed 4 from my lower mid section. Love that. Extra stiches, but who cares? Thinking of that,,,, did any of you remove your own stiches? Did that go OK? Gotta do that on the 25th or so.:crying: So, that is my experience. Great, positive and LOVED the staff/people I delt with.. My hubby even liked it. He got to talk with several couples and Dr's about this whole deal and got a MUCH better attitude towards my weight. He is much more supportive in a positive way, for that I am truly grateful. If I need any futher surgery, IE: tummy tuck, etc. I would go back there. But, I would drive straight to the Hotel and be picked up from there. Marriot, TJ. Hope that does not turn anyone off to this deal, it is the best. The nurses I had were so darn caring and good at their jobs. Ricardo was my assigned personal support staff. He spoke very good english and tried very hard to accomdate all my wishes. It all went well for me, hope it does for you where ever you choose to go. Just do not be afraid to get-r-done. Onward and Downward---weightwise:thumbdown::001_tongue: -

Partner having RNY complications
CCinINdiana posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I haven't had a chance to update in awhile. I am doing great. Will hit my 3 month mark October 12, lost almost 50 lbs and feel awesome. I have spent the last week in the hospital with my partner who had a by-pass 2 years ago September. Last Wednesday she started throwing up blood, tons of it. Was put in ICU, they did a scope and said she had a marginal ulcer where her lower intestine connected to her pouch. Was in ICU until Monday, got 8 pints of blood and had a by-pass revision and ulcer removal on Tuesday. Now she has a blockage in her esophagus. Can't even swollow her spit. Doc thinks it is related to swelling. It has been a rough week. Makes me so grateful for my sleeve and no complications. -
I am sorry, just know you are not alone. When did you have your revision ?

Hate bypass
Christina.Rose replied to DesperateEC's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I 100% agree with you. I miss my sleeve. I was on the way to getting esophageal cancer from GERD...Btw, I still have acid problems, just not as bad....so I had to get revised to the bypass. I hate it. I can't possibly understand how less stomach let's me eat more?? Idk, I feel like I am. I've only lost 20lbs in 2+ months also. So miserable and nauseous all of the time, don't get me started on toilet stuff....ugh. HATE THIS -
Summerset thank you so much !! You hit the nail on the head on so many things. I don not feel as crappy or wore down as I did after the sleeve. I can drink just as I did the day before the revision and I asked the surgeon about that and he said it was okay just a mouthful at a time. Chobani yogurt is 5 oz and I just ate one for breakfast different brand with 15 grams of protein, no problems. It is very scary because I have no idea of what I am living with now and how this is going to work. I will say I have not gotten sick and thrown up on anything yet, but I didn't with the sleeve either so I am hopeful there, but what is this gas thing and is this something that is forever with the bypass ? Thank you for making me feel not alone, I really do appreciate it.
-
Right which is bypass. Do you think revision bypass is the same. Or is that not a thing? Revision just means another procedure?
-
I've been reading through this thread and have a question. Im having revision surgery next week. Went from sleeve to MGB and now to RNY because i have horrible reflux. I had excessive weight gain in the years of trying to get to a solution, so I'd love to lose some weight with this as well, but it is not the reason Im having surgery. I see a lot of people asking for stories of success and mostly Im reading that "it's just not as fast" or "I miss my sleeve" but you guys still lost weight right? Just took longer, so had success, but not as fast as you wanted?

First Thanksgiving with Lapband!!!
lauragshsu replied to lunamiah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was also my first Thanksgiving with the band. I think that I got caught up in the "pile your plate" syndrom the others had. Even though I only took small bits of what was there, and still only had half a full plate, I ate less than half of what was on my plate. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Then again, being less than 48hrs post op (for a port revision) and on pain meds might have made a difference.,. ) -

I bought "Recipes for life after weight loss surgery" the revised/updated version for nook by Margaret Furtado. Lots of recipes and includes some sleeve specific info.
