I had lap band in 2013 but then in 2017 it slipped causing me to have severe reflux and in Nov 2017 I had it removed. My Dr said nothing about any revisions so I thought I could maintain my weight myself. Nope...I was right back to where I started. March 10, 2019 I had a Sleeve done by another Dr in which I was very happy with. I am really looking forward to the journey again in getting back to my happy weight of 170.

I am starting my pre opt diet tomorrow. It’s a full liquid diet. My doctor said I can have cream of wheat which I like. I made some today however I am guessing it needs to be a little more thinner. I can have chicken broth God help me. I brought sugar free popsicle, sugar free pudding and protein shakes. If I can’t make this cream of wheat thinner then I am not going to do it. I gain almost ten pounds since my last visit. I am determined to lose at least 12 pounds before surgery because I am determined not to cheat one day. I am moving this weekend and I am in school online so I am very busy. Mind over matter, I had the sleeve in 2015 and wasn’t successful. This revision is my last chance and plus I am older now, I need knee replacement surgery on both knees so you can only imagine how I walk. I know these two weeks are going to be hard but everyday that I am in pain reminds me of why I need this bypass surgery.

Surgery Scheduled! A Bit Nervous!
Samirax6 replied to round2wi's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I did not have surgery with them but using Dr. Kuri in Mexico. He did my band and I have had it slip gained weight back and pretty much having a major esophageal issue with food going to my repository and larynx. The past 8 months has been torture to even understand what was going on with me since I kept being diagnosed with upper respiratory infections. Anyways I go in on May 29 for my revision. I am nervous for the fact of I am not sure of how much repair needs to be done to my esophagus and of pain, I think that is what is giving me anxiety. -
How long is the surgery? hospital stay and home recovery from Sleeve to Bypass?

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
Lady B 925 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello all! My surgery date is June 3rd, I’m having a revision Lapband to RNY. I’m 48, married and an empty Nester. My weight now is 258 and I’m 5’5”. I started my pre-op diet one week early so I can get used to just liquids for the liver shrinking diet. I feel like I’ve lost weight already but I have not been on the scale. I’m really excited and I know these two weeks will go by fast. I have a personal training session today because I joined a gym with a pool because I am a swimmer. And I want to get toned as I’m losing weight so that’s why decided to start a regimen. I actually don’t want flabby arms or flabby thighs so I’m trying to get a leg up on it. -
update: Not what I wanted but at least there is answer. Sleeved 2.22.19 where esophagus meet sleeve a new pouch is there with no drainage. Stomach pain since March and only got worse. No food in 3 weeks only liquids no medications either. I will find out the game plan on Monday. GI Dr found it. Revision or Bypass?

February 2019 weight loss buds

This is absolutely the reason. My therapist (had bypass over 30 years ago) has told me about several patients of hers that have gained weight after having WLS. What she tells me is every single time it’s because they didn’t do their head homework. The science behind this is very real whether you get the sleeve or bypass. You will lose more with bypass— it’s restrictive and malabsorptive. The sleeve is mostly just restrictive. However both procedures share a common component which is the complete metabolic reset. This reset only lasts a short time though and we all know that as the “honeymoon”. It’s what we do during that honeymoon that determines future success. I won’t lose as much excess fat as I would’ve had I opted for bypass, but I had to consider my career and lifestyle and many other factors. I made that choice knowing the weight would come off slower and that hitting goal weight would make me have to work that much harder. Now maybe someday I will have to have a revision: I had chronic acid reflux and I can potentially see something like that coming back on me in a couple of years, but I wanted to take a chance on the sleeve because I’m pretty active and have an extremely demanding work environment and I needed something “easier” to take care of. Right now I wasn’t willing to have to worry about dumping or losing even more hair or being chronically tired because maybe I wasn’t absorbing enough nutrients. Either way I know I’m going to be successful because my head is in the right place and now my body is actually cooperating. -
June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
JamesL73 replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow....this is like being in a huge family of nothing but sisters. But thats cool, I always wanted sisters anyway, I only had one miserable, drug addicted, brother who has caused nothing but pain to our family. ANYWAY..... I went to Sams and bout about 300 dollars worth of Premier shakes and the Clear drinks, which taste ok but leave you with a very dry mouth so I really do not care for the Premier Clear Protein drinks. Too bad I bout 5 cases. LOL Surgery is 6/15 and I am only supposed to do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet but I have been trying my best to start it early. I have been doing ok but I find myself getting bored at night, especially since being laid off my job a couple nights ago. So I have been slipping in a meal or two of regular food. Still somewhat healthy and has protein, like hamburger patties and sausage. Boredom is one of my worst enemies when it comes to eating. I have got to find something to occupy my time, something that won't cost money since I am jobless now. I am also have a hard time weaning myself off the alcohol. I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic, but the last year os so I have found that a couple or a few glasses of Crown Royal or Vodka help me to fall asleep. I don't ever get hangovers and something tells me it is safer than taking sleeping pills (which never worked for me in the past anyway). But, I do know that I need to stop drinking soon and at least until a couple months post op, and even then, only vodka. Anyway, Just figured I would jump on here and babble a bit rather that go look for food. LOL I know some of you are starting Instagrams for this journey, If anyone is interested, I have one that is mostly of st journey with my VSG. I haven't posted in a while since gaining back a bunch of weight but I will probably start again with this upcoming revision. Feel free to follow me at JamesL_1973 and I will follow back. Look through my followers, there are a LOT of very inspiring people in there. -
Revision Lapband to RNY
allies journey replied to Lady B 925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have not had my RNY revision surgery yet but if I were you I'd see if you can get someone as a standby in case you need anything. I have seen ppl on here that did great and a few that needed backup. Just to be safe keep a phone nearby and ppl in case you need them. Keep phone number s handy. Good luck with your surgery and keep updating your progress. Allie -
My surgery date is 6/3/19. I am excited and a little concerned because I didn’t ask anyone to come help and my husband works 2nd shift. Am I making a mistake? Will I be able to get through the first few days home alone or do I need to get help?

Dubchild replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What is this in reference to? I see a helluva lot more people getting revision surgeries because their sleeve didn’t work than people failing with a bypass -
I had the sleeve in 2017 but it did nothing to curb my hunger. Im hungry all the time. Im thinking of getting the revision to mini bypass

I was scheduled to have a lap band revision on June 22nd to move to the sleeve. Life had other plans! I found out yesterday that I am pregnant! I am very excited, but also surprised as we were not trying (but we also were not trying). I currently have the lap band, and have had it for years. Anything I need to be aware of?

Had a hiccup last night which underlined an old problem I’m yet to properly solve. Fell out with my teen over exam revision. Her cycle of panicked ‘I can’t do this! But I have to do this! No you can’t help!’ pushed me over the edge to some totally inappropriate teen-like door slamming. I came back and apologised (I had made her cry, partly because the shock broke the tension, though it was totally the wrong thing to do), but not before I found and ate a packet of crisps (chips to the US crew). Stewed about my abject lack of will power, felt the ‘I may as well give up’ vibe creeping in, but told hubby and logged it and was still under 800 for the day. Made a point of looking at the nutrition break down and yep, 7.5g fat and 13.4g carbs in that 25g bag. But, in the grand scheme, I can balance that out in a day and I’ve also proven that I can come back from a couple of diversions on holiday to being totally in track, so this doesn’t have to be a slippery slope. My imagination is both my biggest asset and my biggest enemy because I can imagine small problems into insurmountable long-term barriers. Instead, thanks to the mindfulness about hunger and nutrition this injected, I am breaking down problems into manageable steps for today and tomorrow. Less failures and punishments. More blips and corrections. The emotional triggers need a whole heck of a lot more work though!

👋 Hi! My revision from sleeve to bypass is also May 23rd. I guess we are May triplets. Lol I am nervous, relieved, excited, and scared. I’m praying that we all have a wonderful easy surgery. Can’t wait to see how we turn out. Keep me informed.

I’m having revision surgery from sleeve to bypass also. I do have acid reflux. The sleeve did great for me until I became stressed and started eating the wrong things and gained back the 100 pounds I had lost. Very disappointed in myself but I’m determined this time. This is major surgery that I said I wouldn’t have but here I am. I know my triggers now. I also know what to avoid and how to deal better with the stress eating.

Transforming, I don’t thing most Feb surgeries have lost 70lbs. I’m a revision from sleeve to rny, 2/12/19, and I’ve lost 40lbs since surgery, 50 including the preop diet. I lost 28lbs in the 6 months leading up to the preop diet though. -
I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
OzCaz replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 70 and just had it done on Monday. It was a revision from the Gastric Sleeve that I had about 10 years ago. -

Mishu I am a revision from sleeve to rny and am constantly questioning what is the best path to insure success. I just can’t help feeling like we need to keep calories/carbs very low to be successful after failing one surgery already. It’s scary for sure. -

I understand how re gain messes with your emotions. I’m five years out. I had a gain my third year and worked it off. It was not easy. I am concerned that you don’t want to “fight” for the weight loss. Even with a revision it still takes work to lose the weight and maintain it. Search around the site and get perspective from people that had revisions. They can help you research that option. If you are interested in losing without revision, many of us can give you advice on how to get back on track I wish you the best, Jenn -
