I had a Sleeve Gastrectomy in 2017, I am now on my third revision operation and have been suffering over the last 2 years with horrendous GORD. is anyone on here from Scotland and had surgery with Prof Bruce and experienced any issues with this surgery at all. Looking like I will need further revision and now full Gastric Bypass, it’s not looking good 🥲 just wondered if anyone on here from Aberdeen, Scotland with similar situation

I ended up with the bypass for those reasons also. She repaired a large hiatal hernia at the time. I also have Barrett's esophagus caused by GERD. I'm ok with the decision because I've struggled with acid reflux issues for years. I saw your comment about the fried rice. I thought you were 12 days POST op!! I was kind of impressed~! LOL

I wanted the sleeve but after an endoscope was done, large hitial hernia, some esophagus issues and a serious case of acid reflux, my doctors aid the bypass was what I needed. I’ve called him about my weight and he says “oh that’s normal”.. God I hope I will not look like a malnourished Skelton!

dumping syndrome is pretty rare with sleeve, but it does happen to some people. However, it occurs very shortly after eating - like within an hour or so (usually less), so yours might be something else. Reactive hypoglycemia (sometimes called "late dumping") happens to some people who've had bypass - not sure about sleeve. Similar symptoms (well, the rapid heart rate, anyway - and dizziness), but that happens two or three hours after eating a bunch of sugar - but that doesn't sound like what you have, either. Not sure what's going on. Maybe you should check with your bariatric clinic and see if they know what might be causing it. I'm wondering if maybe you've developed an intolerance to certain foods or something (??).

Hi everyone, I had open RNY gastric bypass surgery way back in 2003, and I was diagnosed a few years ago with a raging case of ADHD. I always did very well academically so the ADHD was never diagnosed, at least not until I had two sons with it and their doctor said I needed to go get checked. From a weight loss perspective I’m doing great, currently hanging in there at 143 pounds (I wear a size 6 or 8, though my weight has varied somewhat through three pregnancies and 18 years of, well, life. But medications (all kinds) have given me a lot of trouble. For the last three years I have been on immediate release generic Adderall, since extended release medication tend to be ineffective and even dangerous for me. Lately I’ve noticed it seems like the medication stays in my system only three hours or so, and my doctor thinks the surgery made my absorption extra poor since I am missing so much intestine. My doctor was having me take Adderall IR every 3 1/2 hours four times a day, and it was tricky to remember to take it and I felt like the levels were very unpredictable in my body. (By the way, I’ve tried the non-stimulant meds and they had absolutely zero effects.) Currently I’m doing a trial of the Daytrana patch, since it doesn’t involve my stomach at all. Daytrana is a form of Ritalin, and for some reason it doesn’t seem to work well on me, though it could also be the dosage. I’ve heard rumors of people using Vyvanse after gastric bypass and having it work because it absorbs differently, and I was wondering if there’s any truth to that. I would love to hear stories of any RNY patients and the ADHD medications you found that worked postoperatively. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the group is called "LINX Surgery for GERD/Acid Reflux/Silent Reflux/LPR". I believe you should be able to find it in the search on Facebook and request to join it. I have seen several people in the group who talked about how they had a gastric bypass to try to fix their acid problems, STILL had problems even after that, so then they got the Linx.

Ugh, I am sorry that you are still suffering with GERD after all that. Do you know if you might be a candidate for Linx? In one of the Linx groups on Facebook I saw that there were a few people who got Linx to control acid after a gastric bypass didn't work to stop it. The other thing I have read about is that sometimes people with the bypass end up with bile reflux from the intestines. The bile can cause a lot of throat irritation the same way that acid reflux can. I definitely think you deserve some additional testing to figure out why this is still happening after you have gone through so much.

I’m just gonna say that diarrhea has never been a problem for me- quite the opposite. 😒 No problems with fruit or vegetable intake here- I probably eat more than I did pre surgery. My biggest obstacles are eating too much at night (for whatever reason I come home and that’s just the non stop eat fest in my head), keeping all snack food out of the house (keep that temptation at the grocery store!) and being patient as weight loss slows down. It goes at such a breakneck pace for the first few months that you start feeling like something is wrong when you start “only” losing 2 or so pounds a week. I’m 17 lbs from goal and in the first few months I was losing that every few weeks- now I’m hoping to get there by November at this rate.

So I’ll ignore the subject of your husband because I think others have said enough, but depending on how strict the hospital is being about covid you might not have an issue regardless. I had surgery during the last surge (November) and I was dropped off at the front door and picked up with no questions asked of who he was. He wasn’t even allowed out of the car. They tried to call my husband while I was in the hospital twice and he never picked up because he just never hears his phone. Didn’t stop them from discharging me. I know from working in health care that sometimes people’s rides home fall through. I wouldn’t be warning them about it before surgery, though. And once the surgery is done it’s not like they can take it back. If you insist on leaving they will generally release you whenever you want, it’s very hard for a hospital to hold someone against their will. People do take taxis home after surgery on occasion. Lots of emergency surgeries happen out there and sadly there are a lot of people who find themselves without a ride home- not like a hospital is going to let someone’s appendix burst because they don’t have family or friends waiting. I think your best bet is to hire someone from care website, but just sharing my experience!

I had my bypass surgery and feel ok. I’m drinking the shakes and walking around. I still feel like me. Those of you waiting for your turn, you will do fine.

This situation is why I am divorced. Your husband sounds like ex. He hated when I wanted to do something to improve my health. This may have been years ago and long before I actually started the process to gastric bypass but it is still true. He says things like this to stop you from doing it and refusing to drive you in the hopes you won’t be able to have the surgery without a ride. I’m sorry to say it but he’s emotionally abusive. Manipulating your situation to keep you where he wants you. This relationship is toxic. After you get home and he proceeds to behave like this and not help you, divorce him. You may find yourself becoming mentally stronger and long term success without being beat down emotionally because you made a decision for you.

Wow a fellow Virgo I finally got mine too, Sept 7th (few days before my Birthday) after being cancelled twice thanks to Covid lockdown. Hopefully this is for the last time *finger crossed* Also a fellow Bypass-er!

I finally got scheduled for my bypass on September 8th! (4 days after my 36th birthday!) So nice to finally have a date but not it has set in that it is REAL!

Congrats. I am still pre-op for my bypass but can't wait to upgrade my boobs. LOL

Just wanted to give an update on how my experience went. I always found it helpful to hear other posters experiences. Surgery was Monday, 8/9. Arrival time was noon. I was scheduled for 1:30 but they didn't take me in until 2:30ish. I had a large hiatal hernia that was repaired so between that and the bypass it took almost the full 4 hours. I barely remember recovery. I heard them talking about putting a catheter in but I didn't feel it. (Side note: During this process I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Never any symptoms. I hate the mask and haven't really slept well since I got it. I usually use the full mask but the nose mask just seemed easier to take. I always feel like I can't catch my breath if I open my mouth with the nose mask on. Hospital insisted I bring it). So apparently I felt like I couldn't catch a good breath (gas pushing against my diaphragm.) Then I heard my husband telling them to take the cpap off (which they had hooked up with oxygen somehow) and that was much much better. By the time I got to my room it was after 8 p.m. Thank\fully they let my husband and son wait so they could see I was ok. My mouth was horribly dry. I was able to take in some water fairly easily. They gave me pain meds in my IV, but I hardly got any sleep. I'd fall asleep, wake up and it was 15 minutes later. Longest night EVER!!! Plus when I was sleeping, they'd come in for vitals. I kept telling them I needed to walk (because I read that in the instructions a million times). I finally got up and walked around the room a little around 2 a.m. (?) Tuesday Day 2: In the morning with the shift change, things started to move along. I got some broth for breakfast and some jello and water. I was able to sip pretty easily. Actually I had to remind myself not to just gulp. My husband showed up and we walked a bunch of times. I was really paranoid about not walking. I also had a drain and the catheter. I talked to the day nurse and she removed the catheter, which made me feel better. Doc showed up and said she'd discharge me. They removed the drain (not bad but not a ton of fun - more discomfort than pain). I went home, took some pain meds and slept for a few hours. Just really tired all day. Sleeping was hard. I'm not a back sleeper. Most pain when getting in and out of bed. Wednesday Day 3: Had jello for breakfast. Again..pain mostly when moving. (up and down from sitting or laying in bed) and coughing. As expected. Took more oxy and slept. I'm not 100% sure it helps with pain but it does help me sleep. I got some dissolvable Tylenol. Kind of like pixie sticks. So that helps. I was taking them in between. Thursday Day 4: Kind of a rough night last night. Fell asleep but woke up a few hours later uncomfortable. shoulders hurt and I was making myself paranoid about everything. So I dozed for a while longer, thought about ordering a binder off Amazon and how long it would take to get here. I had two "wicks" in one of my incisions that I was allowed to remove today. I was also able to take a shower (it was 48 hours after surgery but since my surgery was so late I just waited until this morning). That made a huge difference. I'm on to full protein today instead of clear so that's something! I have to figure out the sleep thing still. Not sure I can do anything about the pain when sitting/standing. Hope this helps someone a little.

Hi everyone! New here and I had my bypass yesterday (8/11). Everything is ok. It hurts and I’ve had nothing but ice chips. The worst thing so far was when the IV fluids caused my forearm to retain fluid so bad it was hard to the touch. I’ve walked around my room a bit. I hope everyone still waiting and/or just had theirs is doing good! Tonya

Over the years, we have had to get to know and visit various doctors with different complaints. At the dentist, patients with any discomfort in the oral cavity are usually referred to the leading cause in the occurrence of gum disease is "poor dental hygiene" as the people from https://thehealthysmile.net/, problems with the gums manifest themselves differently in each of the stages of their evolution. In the initial stages, gum diseases can be treated entirely. And that I don't think they come from gastric bypass, but they're not correctly cared for.

Are there many people that have had revisions? I have a sleeve, and it's being revised to a bypass, at the same time as hernia repair, on August 26th. Very nervous! Two surgeons and up to 7 hours for surgery. Sent from my KB2007 using BariatricPal mobile app

So far I have had good luck in revision due to weight gain. starting weight for sleeve 254 3 months out 204.5 weight loss of 50.5 ——————————— starting weight for bypass 245.5 3 months out I weigh 199 today (wooo!) weight loss 46.5 So the weight loss has been about the same but it has felt easier. I’m very glad I did the second surgery.
