Revision because of Complications
Tomo replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds terrifying and painful. I had a revision from vsg to rny in August. My recovery was same or easier than with the vsg. I chewed Mylanta mini tabs to get rid of the excess gas after surgery. Physically, I don't feel different either except that my appetite is much less after RNY. All my issues were resolved after the revision (acid reflux, hunger problems... Etc.). I don't have any issues anymore, not bowel related or stomach related. So far (knock on wood ^^), it has been the best decision I've ever made concerning WLS. -
They told me 30 times but I have found that sometimes I have to chew more. After my revision to gastric bypass, I've found that if the food doesn't break down all the way by chewing (i.e. liquid), I won't swallow it, otherwise it has a high likelihood of getting me sick an hour later.

Revision because of Complications
jensteinberg16 replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 18 days post op from my revision. I had RNY in 2007 and about 5 years ago, I started getting small bowel obstructions. Surgeon thought it was scar tissue, so I went in for an exploratory laparoscopy expecting minimal recovery, and I came out with a brand new bottom half of my bypass (rare issue called intussusception). For about a week, I was sore and tired and needed the pain meds. The biggest thing post op is to get your protein and vitamins in. The fatigue was the most debilitating but I ended up adding some extra vitamin D, B and omega 3s and it made a world of a difference. I have a desk job and after about 5 days I could sit and work for a few hours at a time before I needed a break. I've made sure to keep my social calendar empty so I can reserve my energy for the 'must do's'. I'm on purees now and I'm feeling better each day. Best of luck to you and I hope they're able to fix your issue soon! Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Hot Mess Bypass replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting the bypass on Feb. 21st. I'm also concerned that it could end up being pushed back. I've been preparing for months, which also means I've stopped taking a medicine for my psoriatic arthritis and it's getting very difficult. I've lost 20 lbs. though. I'm mostly off of caffeine and carbonation (I've had it on occasion, but very rarely- it's just not part of my daily life any more). I don't cook, so I still struggle with what I'm eating. I just have a few go to foods and eat a lot less. i need a better meal plan. I'm well stocked with protein drinks/powders/waters that have helped me though. -
Revision because of Complications

Could anyone give me any insight on how this will work? The differences between the sleeve recovery verses the revision recovery? I'm not entirely sure if I'll be getting one but at this point my gut is saying that it's going to be necessary. I can't eat or drink anything. Throwing up, dry heaving, Still have stomach pain, they think it's all from gastritis. I feel like i'm starving to death at this point. My diet is ice cubes (barely). I can barely walk from malnutrition. I just turned 19 and I'm in college so I also don't know how much it would affect my classes. I'm looking for things that are obvious about the recovery and things that aren't obvious that I might not think of. And if anyone else has gone through this. When I got the sleeve I was more able to research things and literally memorize everything but I'm so messed up I really need someone to just help me figure it out kinda. -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
lbugher replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Band-to-bypass patient here. I think I may have perspective that will help you considering I've been through it myself. I never lost weight with the lap band because it didn't work for me. It never reduced my appetite and it merely felt like a road block between my esophagus and stomach. Food slid through the band pretty easily (if I chewed well enough and/or ate slider foods) and considering it was much easier and more comfortable to eat that way, that's what I did. The lap band does NOTHING to stop you from eating as much ice cream or cheesy mashed potatoes as you want. With the lap band, if it's adjusted properly, you get a hard "stop" when your pouch is full. You have to be careful with the bypass because "full" is a much more gradual feeling. Eat slowly, or else you could end up eating too much and that is painful. Restriction is there but it's a gradual feeling rather than the sudden feeling of "I can't eat anymore." Keep in mind other benefits the bypass has that the lap band doesn't: malabsorption, reduced/muted appetite, and prolonged satiety. I would get hungry pretty fast after drinking water with my lap band (I always waited the 60 minutes we were told to wait and even so, the food washed right through my pouch). With the bypass I'll stay full for several hours. I get hungry but not *famished* to the point where I'm shaky and desperate. You're just 1 month post-op but it will get better feel free to PM me if you want to chat. Having had a lap band before will make this experience different for you. I'd get so frustrated when people told me the lap band was "just a tool" but it felt like someone gave me a bent screwdriver when what I needed was a jackhammer. The bypass is a much more powerful tool. I lost 20 pounds in 6 months with my lap band and then stopped. I was so frustrated with feeling miserable that I just gave up and ate what I wanted. With the bypass I've lost 101 pounds in 5 months. It's night and day, truly. Even on days when I want to give up and eat what I want, I can't. And I really appreciate that. Try eating a couple cookies and see what happens 😂 actually, don't. For me it's really bad farts but for a lot of people it results in terrible dumping so it's just not worth it. Anyway, I hope I provided some comfort for you. It will get better and you'll lose weight!!! It's such a better tool than the lap band (or as I call it, crap band!) -

I am revising my sleeve to a DS on Feb 7th. I feel like I am going into this surgery with my eyes more open than before. that is good and bad. I know I can and will lose weight. but what if I can't keep it off? last time I maintained for years until pregnancies and miscarriages messed me up. I'm not going to have any more pregnancies, but I'm still scared. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My nurse told me to reach the point of being satisfied not full or stuffed. She also said I might feel pressure or fullness in my chest. Listening to your body has a learning curve and one bite too many and it will feel like food is stuck in the esphagus. Like you, I had my surgery a little over a week ago but I had the sleeve. I'm not sure if the cues are different for bypass.

January 2022 Surgery Buddies
Saleen0623 replied to LilaNicole20's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
January 26th I will have Bypass from my previous sleeve surgery done August 27,2015. I had major GERD issues & strictures. I put back on 34 pounds. However; I did lose a lot and maintained most of my weight loss. I’m so ready to get this done. Before sleeve 2015 & After sleeve Now December 2021-January 2022. Wishing everyone the best! -
1. No, I can definitely say I feel healthier and though I have experienced some regain, my body has changed for the good. 2. Yes 100% 3. I was miserable for about 8 months after surgery because my body decided to hate everything I put in it, and for awhile there I was surely tested HOWEVER, I had a great team with my bariatric doctor whom helped me through. Of course this a person by person basis but something that drove me close to regret. 4. I was sleeved in 2015. I WISH they would have told me about the possibility of getting severe GERD and hernias. That conversation wasn't thoroughly discussed and as it may be my fault, I'm now finding myself needing revision which health insurance that won't cover leaving me to fund my revision on my own. Life is a little miserable right now because nothing seems to help but again, this is all a person by person basis. I wish I would have pushed for RNY at the beginning but I still don't regret getting WLS. Best of luck to you!

How much weight did you lose per month after 6 months?
Tomo replied to Rey Rodriguez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 10 lbs. from my new goal I set at the time of my surgery. Since my revision from VSG to RNY in August 2021, about 9 to 10 lbs. a month, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I've lost about 65 lbs. in 5 months. -
I had my gastric bypass surgery on December 6th. Things are going pretty well so far. Hope you all are doing well too!

Instagram Support Groups (Non-Facebook groups)

Doesn’t anyone follow helpful support pages or people on Instagram covering their weight loss surgery journey? I had a sleeve to rny revision 3 weeks ago and would love to follow some folks on Instagram since I don’t have Facebook and don’t want to create an account. If you’re active on Instagram please feel free to share your @ and any suggested Instagram accounts you follow/find helpful. Thanks! -
I think a lot of the answer lies here. Anything you do will be offset by this; eventually, your body will force you to not be hungry. On the list of survival mechanisms, it's pretty high up there. I'd honestly take a deep breath, look at this like another project to conquer, and start by giving my team where you had the surgery a call. Maybe your new set point isn't BMI 25, maybe you're doing really well by maintaining your weight where you are. Maybe you need a revision. Maybe not. All I know is that being permanently hungry never ends up being permanent. Fortunately.

So I’m coming up on my three year mark. I had my gastric bypass March 27,2019. I started above 330lbs and got down to 214lbs. Found out I was pregnant a month before my one year post op. During my pregnancy I could tell my pouch was “more relaxed” to allow me to eat more to make sure my baby got what he needed. I got rid of my diabetes and high blood pressure before pregnancy and developed gestational towards the end so I was induced and I gave birth September 30, 2020 and I tried breastfeeding which made me always hungry still. I stopped because I was unable to produce but I am still so hungry. My weight has stayed at 224-227lbs since birth. But I wanted to do a pouch reset. I tried it before but my stomach would burn and I’d feel nauseous and uncomfortable. I didn’t know if anyone else has experienced that. I stopped after a couple days because it was a terrible feeling. I didn’t know if I should “push thru” it and keep going because it’s normal or not.

i'm pre-op, for the second time
gabbykittyvsg replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I've read and experienced, there's no BMI requirement for revision due to complications such as GERD. Some have been able to get a revision based on BMI alone, but I think that's rare. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm getting a revision from sleeve to bypass on March 1st. I'm praying this pandemic doesn't change plans! I'd love to lose about 30 pounds but that's not the reason for surgery, getting rid of the acid reflux is the goal! Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -

Howdy all, I hope everyone is well. I am scheduled for gastric bypass on January 13th, 2022. To those that have walked this path before me, do you have any helpful tips to offer me? I am not so concerned about the surgery itself moreover the next few days before/after the surgery. Thank you!

Hello everyone, I see as I read all of the recent postings that you all are pretty new to this new life you now have, but I would love to help anyone who needs advise on anything about whatever is on your minds. I had my surgery on march 28 th 2011. I was 422 pounds and today I am 119 pounds at 5 ft 7 tall. And since then I have not found a love in my life as most do not understand all of the things that comes with the new you. Anyone also having this problem? My name is Athena -
Hi everyone I am in Aus and just came across this page. I am sorry to hear peoples operations are getting cancelled. Mine was booked Jan 6th and while I was in admissions they were saying as of the 7th elective surgeries were getting postponed so I was so lucky. I had the gastric bypass and It’s now the 11th here so almost a week later and I’m only just starting to feel more awake and mobile now. For the first few days I was knocked out with all the medications I think. I hope everyone is doing well in their recoveries. And for anyone on their shake diet - you can do this, I lost 11kg on mine!

I had my gastric bypass surgery on January 4th and I’ve just transitioned to full liquids. I’m sitting here sipping my soup, and my NUT said that I would only be able to handle 4oz or so of any food, but I’m not feeling full at all. I’m super worried about like, popping my staples or something! EDIT: I made myself stop just because I was concerned, but what is normal?

Hair Loss…AGAIN?! Over a year out
Lilfootie posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Has anyone experienced a second round of hair loss? I’m not 100% sure it is a massive amount like last time, but I suddenly noticed balding spots when I put my hair up, my drain was clogged, and when I dried my hair it felt thinner. Am I imagining things? It is about one year since the last round, in which I lost at least 50% of my hair, and about 14 months since my gastric bypass. Didn’t have any issues with vitamins/minerals at 1 year. Any ideas?
