Difficulty loosing weight???
jason2116 replied to Bulldog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bulldog....lol...I'm just one month ahead of you. I thought I could kinda do what I wanted and I would still lose because I was eating so much less. Worked for a while, then I stopped. Now (starting less than a month ago, about the same time from surgery as you) I do South Beach and work out intensely. All that "the band is just a tool" BS was all true (dammit). -
I think this is the Mexico forum, but I had originally contacted smart shape two years ago, and then again last week. They are charging $19000 plus you pay for airfare & 1 week hotel stay (if your not from that area) So in the end I opted for Mexico, and I'm scheduled for August. 11th I'm guessing your in BC?

I am preparing for Lap Band toward the end of January. I have met with my primary care doctor to inform her of the procedure and to discuss my meds. My doctor was so excited for me and proud of the decision I was making. We talked about medication options. I am taking 1000mg. of metformin twice daily, norvasc 10 mg. for blood pressure, and a huge prenatal Vitamin (can't remember it's name right now). My doctor told me to talk to the pharmacist about options and have them call and request the change. The pharmacist suggests Riomet, a liquid form of metformin, and a chewable prenatal vitamin. She thought my norvasc was small enough to swallow as is. Does anyone use Riomet? How does it compare to Metformin? Was it easier/harder to take? Was it as effective/less effective? Also, I have a doctors visit with my ob/gyn mid month to have my annual exam. I need to discuss birth control options with her. I haven't been on birth control pills since I was 25 and am now 39. As my husband and I always wanted kids, we never used any birth control. PCOS and my weight has always stood in the way. It seems really strange to be discussing BC now. It seems counter productive. However, I know I need to take this year to get myself healthy by loosing weight before we try to move on. The surgeon said at the seminar that they like for you to focus on weight lose for the first year and to be on some type of birth control. At 39 can I even take the pill? For some reason I though they didn't like to use oral contraceptives after 35.

Anyone had a Panni 1st then Tummy Tuck later!?
CrissyRing77 replied to CrissyRing77's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm not terribly worried about insurance I paid for my surgery to begin with, I was just looking to see if others did the same! I only have 20lbs left to my surgeons goal and 30 to mine but he thinks I have at least 10# of skin...so technically I'm 10lbs from his goal for me! I've lost 63lbs and am 5' tall, so I've lost over 60% of my excess weight. He is ecstatic! I am very physically active so this would be a Godsend to have it done as a first step as I would be suffering a while bc we intend on having a baby next year so my big plastics will have to wait a few years! He is also thinks it would be beneficial bc I'll be having a third csection to get the pannis out of the way! I say good riddance! -
June 2nd Sleever - almost 7 weeks out... GAS from Protein Drink!
wifusg replied to LovetoDive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if you are referring to Premier Protein Drink? If so, I know they contain whey carbonate instead of whey isolate. From what I understand whey carbonate is harder to digest and that could be causing the gas problem. Other people have drank this protein with no issue, but you may not be able to digest them anymore. Also I've heard that even though they contain 30g of protein, you are only getting a portion bc your body cannot break the whey carbonate down to absorb all the protein. I am no expert, this is just info I have gathered in my journey. Good luck, hope you get it figured out. -
I am from Louisiana. My family smothers okra where it has a pureed look. Im confused bc okra has seeds, but once pureed/smothered it is very smooth and you cant feel or taste seeds. Its not like a watermelon or apple seed. Has anyone eaten okra post-op? If so, how long did you wait to eat it?

No Weight Loss
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to Mistywater35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
drinking shakes to lose weight was to help prepare our bodies for surgery. contemplating just doing shakes/sliders for life is silly and is kinda like what get the band if you are not gonna eat?? i say that because jeannie of bandwagon asked me that same question when i stated to her i was afraid to eat bc i may (gain). def changed my thinking. did your dr give you a hand out of what to eat or not? i agree w/cheryl, bread was not on my mush list either. i am nearly 5 months post op and dont eat bread/rice/pasta i focus on Protein, fresh veggies/fruit.....and i drink alot... i also recommend staying off the scale for awhile or weighing so much as you are still 2 weeks out and still healing. -
Your cycles will be off during your losing stage. My cycles are just now getting to normal 28 day cycles and I'm 18 months out. I've been charting for the last year, and my cycles were going anywhere from 26-34 days, but the last 2 months, I've had normal 28 day cycles. It was super random during my rapid weight loss. Be careful with Nuvaring. I know 2 sleevesters, and 1 RNY'er that are now expecting within 6 months of their surgery date after going on Nuvaring. I was advised to use back up bc during the rapid weight loss phase if I went on birth control. It's not about absorbing or not absorbing the bc, it's because of the crazy hormone flux we experience during that time.

You guys are a tough group. I am a medical social worker at renowned pediatric oncology hospital and I know all about informed consent. Also some of my best friends are nurses. And I am more than informed about lap band and have been reading voraciously here for a year. The RN today was the hospital nurse who was meant to give me pre-op instructions (like bathe with antibacterial soap the morning of surgery and bring a responsible adult with you). She made it plain that she doesn't like the surgeon and told me horror stories including his bedside manner and how he treats staff. I get it. He is a jerk. I agree, it was a lack of boundaries and if her supervisor had heard she would be in trouble. after she said all of that she came back and said but that 'usually it goes fine even though she doesn't like to take care of his pts bc he is a jerk, but he is an excellent surgeon'. Other staff that were coming in the room were looking at her like 'shut up' and obviously not comfortable even being in the room with her doing that. Just bc someone is a nurse, or Dr, or Judge etc doesn't mean that sometimes they don't need to shut up. She was telling me that bc of her agenda with the surgeon who yelled at her last week, not bc it was her job. Pennie

Waiting for Healthnet approval
droppindown replied to Dayle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck with healthnet. They denied my claim for not enough evidence of recent "diet" attempts. Total BS. I had over 10 years of yo-yo weight loss documentation. Some of it medically supervised, some of it simply records of rollercoaster weight loss from my reg. drs. They did not like it was not within the past 6 months. Like I am going to discover something new that I haven't tried before! I went ahead and did self-pay, but am trying to appeal and get them to reimburse me (yeah right). -
So Frustrated......i Know This Is Just Part Of The Deal But Still....
Ms skinniness replied to JayhawkJess33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jayhawk you are absolutely right. We all have this struggle in the beginning. I know I did, but now realize I hated that struggle bc I reflected back in the beginning when I wasn't so focused and the weight just fell off. When I started weighing everyday and the weight stopped falling off, I was so frustrated and I decided after some time to just live life for today and just know that the weight will come up. Now having said that, I also believe that we have to be proactive and eat healthy and exercise. However, now is a time for you to sit back and take notice of how your cloths fit you in the AM in comparison to how they fit in the PM. I know that I would put on my slacks for work and they would fit but then by the PM they would be really loose. That was amazing for me. This will happen to others also. I love losing inchs. LOL -
HELP! Need a Psychiatrist from New York for my psych eval
NJMOMof2 replied to Sleevie WonderLand's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had to pay out of pocket for the psych eval. My surgeon had one that they used. I think she charged $120. Call your surgeon and ask if there is a perferred therapist that they used. It will make it a lot easier bc they will know what to put in the letter. Good Luck -
I think i hit green!
bluegudren replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far so good. Today I had only one meal. Bc I wasn't hungry. I had prime rib at a restaurant with my dad. Ate 1/3 maybe. That meal was at noon. It's now 6 pm and I am just now feeling hungry. So, this may not be the green zone? -
Hi all, 12 days PO here. Was doing amazing and all of a sudden yesterday I developed left shoulder pain, the same feeling I had early PO. I’m freaking out bc I have in my head this could be a leak, I didn’t sleep all night over it. I rang my surgeon he told me since I don’t have a fever, or anything else it could be gas. Did anyone else have something like this, esp being this far out?

Just an update -- I talked to my surgeon's nurse yesterday and she said it was not a problem to vomit. I didn't think she knew what she was talking about because that isn't what everything else I've been told or read said. She was hemmin and haahing so it didn't seem like she was using a voice of authority. She claimed that's what the PA told her, but I'm thinking I was fed a like there. So I called my coordinator and she told me to see my pcp and have the prescribe compozine suppositories (forgive the spelling but that's what it sounded like). I told her what the nurse said and that she said she was going from the PA's word and that I was a bit disconcerted that I was being given conflicting info and didn't know what to do. I made it very apparent that everyone should get on the same page and that I WAS NOT happy. So....don't puke! Do what ever you have to to get something just in case. That was the coordinator's main point. Like she said, it will be Christmas morning and you will need something. No one to get a script from, nowhere to fill it. I'll take her word and have my doc prescribe something for me. Thanks for all your help guys. I hope you learned something from all of this. I did. Steph

six month medically supervised weight loss not losing
JessFinch replied to j morgan's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I didnt have to loose any weight...in fact I was told not to loose any bc I wouldnt qualify but i did gain wait during my 6 mo supervised visits w my pcp. No biggie. -
Well, what does your surgeon's guidelines state about portion sizes at your stage of the game?? I can at times it 1/2 or a little more at one time but not very often. Usually I eat about 1/2 of whatever it is I make. I also only eat about 2 times a day bc that is all that I am hungry. I do get it all my protein and am losing weight just fine. Are you losing weight? Are you getting in all your protein first?? Do you feel full after eating 1/2 cup? I would say as long as you are losing and not getting overly full and following your doctors guidelines you are fine. Everyone is different and every program is different.

4 DAYS POST OP AND STARTING TO FEEL HUNGRY
LJM replied to LJM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI JUST AN UPDATE FOR YOU GUYS. TODAY WAS A HORRIBLE DAY AT WORK . I ENDED UP LEAVING EARLY AND WAS NOT SURE IF I WAS GOING TO MAKE IT. MY BS DROPPED, MY BP DROPPED WHILE AT WORK ( TK GODNESS I WORK AT A DOCS OFFICE) TURNS OUT I WAS NOT CONSUMMING ENOUGH CALORIES FOR THE AMOUNT OF CALORIES I WAS BURNING. GOT HOME HAD SOME broth CALLED MY SURGEONS OFFICE AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO GO AHEAD AND START MUSHIES..SLOWLY...THEY SAID MAYBE I HEALED FASTER AND DIDNT NEED THE FULL 7 DAYS OF CLEAR LIQUIDS... THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK, GLAD I CALLED MY DOCS OFFICE. AFTER HAVING SOME ''REAL'' food I FELT SOO MUCH BETTER. THANK YOU ! -
We went out to Chinese when I was still on full liquids and I had the egg drop Soup... and it was heavenly! I have only been out to eat Chinese food again once since on solids. I got the Scallop and Shrimp stir fry, ate 2 scallops (no room for veggies) and brought the rest home. My leftovers fed myself and my husband for lunch the next day!

I don't like any meat anymore. Reheated meat is an absolute no-no. I like fish, but pretty much all meat makes me nauseous. I love tofu and tolerate it very well. Refried Beans with melted cheese are another favorite. I am almost 3 months postop and pretty sure I'm gonna need Protein shakes forever. I sometimes have whole wheat saltines with nut butter (I like sunflower butter actually bc I'm allergic to peanuts). I make chili a lot and freeze it in small containers. One thing that actually makes my pouch happy is vinegar cole slaw. I don't know why, but it just does. If only that had protein.

I had my bypass Nov 3rd. Tonight I went out with a few people for dinner. We went to buffalo wild wings. I had a grilled chicken wrap. Took 2 bites of the insides and I have this horrible pain in my left should. My nurse said it's normal, bc I eat too much, too fast, or not chewing enough. It hurts to the point where I'm starting to tear up. Does anyone else have these pains.
