  1. Juniper, I’m in the exact same place. I had severe reflux and had all the fluid taken out of my band. I quickly gained 20 lb over the 40 I had gained back over the last 2 years or so. I am approved for revision to bypass and am hoping to have it near the end of Feb. I had the exact same question . I would get stuck with the band and could either tough it out or eject the stuck item. I often chose eject and am wondering if you can do the same after bypass.

I had very little energy last week, my gastric bypass was 4th January. I have a little more energy this week but have awful hives which are making me miserable and seem to keep getting reflux which is also making me grumpy. Trying to figure out this purée diet now. Hope your energy picks up soon x

    Whats wrong with me?

wait loss DOES tend to be slower with revisions - BUT....you may just be in a stall right now.
  4. I’m having revision from a sleeve to bypass on Feb 3. Want to keep in touch?
  5. I had a gastric bypass 6.5 weeks aggo. It was a revision from a VBG done open in 2004. I have not lost any weight in 2 weeks. has anyone ever heard that revision patients dont lose much weight?
  6. So I am one week prior to surgery for the bypass. I’m doing my liquid diet and I’m sticking to it 100%, but I cannot stop thinking about eating! Every single thought that runs through my mind is eating, eating, eating! How do I stop this?

    Doing it all wrong.

I was told by a gastric bypass counselor that drinking out of a straw was fine, I was not getting enough Water in at the beginning because I cannot drink out of a cup or glass( mind thing), she told me to use a straw that was no evidence of drank oh for a straw would be hurtful…ijs

I've regained the weight I lost

That’s unfortunate to hear 😩 Since you’ll have to find a new surgeon if you decide to have a revision, try to establish yourself with one that has a comprehensive team that you’re confident in. And don’t forget to ask about all of your options, not just surgical.

I've regained the weight I lost

Please don’t forget to contact your Surgeon/team. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for their help. Perhaps you can get a good look at how to optimize your diet with a nutritionist, habit building with a therapist and there are a lot of new weight loss medications recently approved that may help before revision surgery is needed. Good Luck ❤️
  10. Hei My op is 21. january , in 2 days. Anyone having same date?? Mini gastric bypass
  11. Okay I know a lot of you are going to fuss at me, but let me tell you why first. I am one week post bypass. I simply could not get down enough water / protein. I think they call it food avoidance. But anyway, the protein shakes....I couldn't even look at them. Let me mention here that I am 68 years old, probably a bit older than most of you. Broth was good, but as you know very few calories or protein. I tried to eat & drink like I was supposed to, but just couldn't. I did call in for some more nausea meds, (after I had gone through the original prescription) Finally got them today, and I willl try again tomorrow. Here's the thing; I was getting weaker and weaker. You know, wobbly legs, cold sweats. So today I broke my diet, ( which was to be still water, Vitamin Water, SF Jello and protein drinks.) Anyway, I went in the kitchen, got some instant mashed potatoes, and made a slurry of that and broth. Ate that twice, about half a cup the first time, a quarter cup the next. No bad effects that I could feel. Someone took me to get my prescriptions oh, and all I could think about was an ice cold Coca-Cola. Yes I know, no sugar, no carbonated beverages. But remember at this point, I was feeling genuinely weak. So I got a small iced coke. I drank about 2/3 over 6 hours. Tiny TINY sips, and....no bad effects. Then I had a tiny bit of well cooked Raman. And chewed the heck out of it.. Now I'm not stupid. I know I need to get back on the protein and I intend to do so, but becoming dangerously weak, (and again at my age,) I elected to put something in there because I had had less than 50 cal over the last four days. Guess what? I feel better. Should I have done this? Probably not. But I feel better. And for those of you who said I should call my doctor. Sometimes that you don't feel confident in what they're going to say, when they say "Well, FORCE yourself." (Well I have been. Duh. That's why I called you) My two cents worth.
  12. I'm finally mustering up the guts to ask for help. I am 5' 2" and I had gastric sleeve at 205 lbs. My struggle with weight has been life-long. I dropped down to 155 and I was actually quite happy there, as I was down to a size 10. I consumed about 900 cal/day at that point. Everything went to hell in a handbasket when COVID hit. I truly do not mean to make excuses, because there are none, but there were situational issues. My husband was hit severely early on in the pandemic, the kids were doing remote schooling, I was out of a job, I wasn't exercising and I chose to deal with all of this by getting diet sloppy. And the weight has just been creeping up. I am now at 190 lbs. What's even worse, is that according to the 13cal/pound calculation, I would need to eat 2470 calories per day in order to maintain a weight of 190lbs. I don't come close to that. I average 1600, and usually not even that much. My metabolism has always been a problem, which I suspect lots of people can identify with. I have tried Keto and Atkins on and off, but they are not sustainable for me. I read up on Pouch Reset, but then also read about the weight regain. I'm considering intermittent fasting, or simply using my Baritastic app and dropping it to 900 cals. I even looked into a revision, but that wouldn't solve the core issues, which I can't even identify at this point. I'm so ashamed by this. I've made a mess of this but at the same time, I'm committed to fixing this problem. Help? Thank you...

    Hives

I had those as well during week 3. The PA at my surgeon's office thought it might be the ursodiol (as that can be a side effect, although it's a not common one), so he had me get off those completely and then after about two weeks, gradually get back on. So I did - hives never came back after I got back on....so it likely wasn't the ursodiol. I also learned after having plastic surgery c. three years later that I was allergic to the adhesive they used or the surgical tape. I guess that could have been the case with my gastric bypass, too.

    Hives

Hi I am almost two weeks post op for a gastric bypass and have woken up with awful hives all over me. So irritating. I think I was allergic to the dressings but wonder if anyone else has had this? I also have woken up with I lump like feeling in my chest, a bit like when you have eaten too much but I obviously haven’t as I’m still on liquids and it started before I have even drunk anything. Any ideas? Thanks 😀
  15. Just to be clear, going from a sleeve, band etc to a bypass is a conversion of a previous surgery, to another bariatric solution. Revision retains and modifies the original procedure such as a gastric bypass. So you have had a conversion to a different type of weight loss solution. There should be no reason why it would not be successful as long as you abide by your new surgery protocols.

    Cheated on my pre op

Yeh you should be fine as long as you don't go crazy with cheating. Make sure you're 90% on the plan, some slip ups are expected. And you still got 2 more weeks. So you should be fine. I was on 2 weeks of pre-Op and I had cheated a few times and I had gastric bypass. But since you're told to do 3 weeks, your BMI may be on the higher side. So for your own surgery and it's safety, try your best to stick to your pre-Op diet. Good Luck and don't beat yourself up. Just pick up from now and make sure you give your best. 😊

    Anthem BCBS, Illinois

Hello, all. A bit nervous with my first post. It's been less than a week since I got a new general practitioner (the previous one retired) and formally raised the idea of (probably) gastric bypass surgery. I haven't done any of the consultations, finding a surgeon, etc, that's all in the future. But one thing I can worry about and start to plan for in the present is insurance. I am in Illinois and have Anthem BCBS. Something I see listed on their requirement is: Past participation in a weight loss program; and Inadequate weight loss despite a committed attempt at conservative medical therapy (for example, comprehensive lifestyle interventions, including a combination of diet, exercise, and behavioral modifications); and Anyone have any experience with that, or with Anthem BCBS? Because to my skeptical eye that just looks like a catch-22 way to deny the claim: "Oh, you lost weight? Don't need surgery, then, do you? Oh, you didn't lose weight? Not committed, I guess. Tough luck, though."
  18. Hey please know you got this. I have been beating myself up for needing a revision. Had leave to bypass may 19. I am outpacing my first weight loss by a lot. I’m wiser now. Every single day is a choice and you will be successful if you make good choices more days than not.
  19. I had a sleeve to bypass revision 7 weeks ago. I can only eat about 1 oz of food at a time. I've tried three different protein shakes, they all literally make me sick after about 1/4 of the shake. I can feel it churning and gurgling in my chest. I can't get my protein in with just food. I am not getting all my supplements taken, it's like eating a meal taking the big calcium pills. I really am frustrated. I need to weigh or measure everything I put in my mouth, which is fine. I was severely dehydrated last weekend. I should have gone to the ER but the wait time is up to 10 hours. I knew I wasn't drinking enough. I didn't know how to prioritize supplements, protein and drinking. My skin was very dry, my lips stayed chapped for two weeks prior to the sudden onset of uncontrollable vomiting and an instant pounding headache. Not a migraine but a headache that I couldn't get rid of. That was Saturday a week ago. I talked to my surgeon in Dallas Sunday. He wasn't to make sure my abdomen wasn't hurting. He said if I started running a fever 100 or above get to the ER. I'm 2.5 hours away from him. I started doing better, I was drinking Pedialyte mixed with no sugar added grape juice like crazy. I ended up drinking 2.5 bottles, 33.8 oz each, and grape juice and two cups of lactose free milk every day. I'm back to eating again, trying to. I've thrown up twice today, I woke up at 4:30 AM yesterday and threw up. I haven't had nearly enough to drink, eat and I've taken 1/3 of the calcium I should be taking. Any advice at all? Thank you.

    January 2022 Surgery Buddies

You got this! I’m having my revision on January 26th.
  21. My bypass was 12/21/21. I am on my “soft food phase” and relearning how to listen to my body!
  22. Howdy there, today is my 3rd after the day of my surgery. We had planned on having the Gastric bypass done but upon consulting more with my Dr. they performed the Gastric Sleeve. I followed the medical professionals on this opinion. I don't remember anything but waking up and being in overall and in full pain and crying. (It did hurt but I am the biggest baby when it comes to pain.) Since the surgery, I have been taking in 1 ounce of water and 1 ounce of clear Protein Drink every hour. When I am able to I will also take in 1-2 oz of chicken broth. I am on a med for pain, a med for constipation, and a gut pill that I will take daily for at least a year. Thankfully the hic-ups are no longer as frequent the contractions were very painful. I still can not make myself go pee (Thankfully no catheter) I just sit there and wait until "he's" done. I have not had a bowel movement in 5 days. That is a bit concerning, however, I can not apply any internal pressure to assist it anyhow. I am walking as much as I can. I walk down the street to the next-door neighbor's house a few times a day. (always have my phone on me) Sheldon got me a huge walking stick and also tied a rope to it. There were a few times I was on the bed and couldn't get up or reach the stick for leverage. Kinda like a turtle on his back. Just lay there and cry. This will pass and I will get up. Until then the rope has been a lifesaver. I still need assistance to get out of bed or even to a sitting-up position most times. Still need to take the pain meds on a regular schedule though I have been able to increase the time between them. I really want some Mushy food (apple sauce, cottage cheese, etc.) I Can't have that until 1/27/22. Still on the clear liquid diet. Yesterday I spent most of the day in my head regretting this decision and wanting a way out. The strongest feeling I have is honestly, "This to shall pass." I remember when I couldn't take experiences "One Day at a Time" and had to break them down to one moment at a time!!!. Between that knowledge and having the overwhelming love & support from my husband, my family, and all my friends this experience and the pain is all be it slowly getting behind me. (Just moved a little and it HURT like hell. So not so far behind LoL!) I really want to intake more! My paperwork states that they reduced my stomach from about 60oz down to about 4oz. I guess I have to wait until that heals so then the 4oz pocket stretches to hold more. The times that I injust more than 4oz of water I burped and it all came up. It still feels weird to feel the liquid go down and make a turn. it doesn't hurt and has no symptoms of leaking so it's just weird. The headaches are rough but thankfully I had some stuff called "Goodys" headache powder it is gross cause it's just like aspirin but powder this way with very little water it's dissolved quickly Sorry for such a really long message. I appreciate all of your posted comments and question with each other they have helped me immeasurably. Be well!
