February 2019 weight loss buds
gabybab replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats! You look awesome! I, too, worry about sagging skin. I went from I want my breasts and arms done to oh hell no I need my face done. I can tuck the other spots up. My face is showing lines I never had. I have a long way to go (68 pounds) and I'm afraid I will look scary. I'm having a terrible stomach problem and have an endoscopy on the 5th of November. I'm worried I will need a revision. My stomach burns down lower in my stomach and makes me feel nauseated. I had gerd before surgery, so I'm really scared about this. Bonus, I too feel so much better about myself. I just broke the threshold to just obese. lol But having had had a bmi of 54 I will take it. Way to go February friends! -
Trying again/My Story: PreOP Diet #2
LadyVS replied to LadyVS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not recently. I just know that because of what the nurse told me. That's why almost everyone has to do the liquid diet. I know YouTube has some great videos to check out. When I first heard about the sleeve 5 years ago, I looked it up to see what in the world. I'm still not understanding why it's called a sleeve when you're not putting anything on the stomach. You're actually cutting the fat part off and shaping it like a banana. Lol but it's a sleeve, ok 😂😂😂 as long as it helps me loose this weight and keep it off, I don't care what it's called. -

Now that I'm at goal weight, I'm obsessing a bit over the saggy skin all over my body (neck, arms, abdomen, thighs, butt--and even low-hanging man-boobs). When I feel a bit depressed about it, I try to think about these things: 1) I now have cheekbones. 2) I now have a jaw line. 3) I no longer worry about people seeing my face from the side because I have no jaw line and my chin seems to be attached directly to my chest. 4) I don't panic when people are taking pictures and try to either get out of shot or try to stand in the most flattering pose possible while sucking in my gut. 5) When boarding a plane, I no longer worry that everyone is thinking, "I hope the fat guy doesn't sit next to me." 6) I can now eat in public without worrying that people are looking at me and thinking, "How disgusting. If he had more self-control he wouldn't be so fat." 7) My pants now stay up on their own and I don't have to tug on them every 15 minutes. (The men will understand this.) 8) I FEEL FANTASTIC!! -
I had (Gastric sleeve) surgery 8 or 9 years ago. At first I lost a great deal of weight and then slowly gain it all back. But my question I keep getting pain and discomfort in the upper left part of my stomach. I also sometimes get a slight burying sensation through my whole stomach area. And I have also noticed a hard lump under my skin in that same area. I am not sure if this has something to do with the surgery or just something else. I was wondering if anyone had an insight to this. I plan to see my regular Dr. soon. Also wondering if anyone else have started gaining weight years after surgery. I am interested in your thoughts.

Food Before and After Photos

Breakfast this morning. Sorry for the crappy pics. It was still dark outside. LOL. I made a crispy taco shell from the 2% Kraft Cheese Deli Deluxe style. Then shaped it over a silicone garlic skin remover, and nuked it til crisp. It would work great for beef or chicken tacos too. It does soften up (from the egg mix), so eat fast NOT! Or line it with a piece of lettuce or green. It was pretty good. No afters. Here's the breakdown of macros, which includes the avocado and tomato: -
When giving away my clothes I had 1 or 2 dress pants in an 18. Some 16, a ton of 14. The 12’s I had are too loose and fall down. Now I have 2 pair of jeans that fit they are size 11. I carried the bulk of my weight in my belly. I lost a bunch in my legs, face, butt, arms, lost a bunch in my belly but still carry it there. So hoping that comes off. The surgeon said it will. I guess it depends where you carry your weight. From shirts I was xl to 2x ladies top. (Not woman’s) depending on the shirt. Now a large and I had on a medium shirt the other day. So that all depends on the cut. My husband loves it he keeps rubbing and squeezing me can’t believe how small I got. Yet still have 30 to go. I was off my blood pressure meds 1 week after surgery. That was amazing. Can’t wait to see my A1c.

hey dude people at a heavier starting weight tend to loose a lot of weight at the beginning of their journey, will slow down a little as time passes, but will do great it's mind boggling to me that you or anyone can loose 64 lbs in 2 weeks not sure about that - but..... ok, that's great!!! continued good luck, health and happiness☺️ kathy -
That is alot of calories especially if you have medical issues that cause weight gain and not active - I currently am running on 400-500 calories a day and loose weight every week - STOP checking your weight every day you will drive yourself nuts. I weigh in every Sunday Morning and record - My goal is 5.5 pounds per week. I hit it every week by controlling intake and moving about I also use a nutritionist and she has me at 450 a day - so not sure where the 1000 came from. I agree with above it is been said that the long run you should be higher - My attitude is this lets loose it all and figure that out later

I still see myself as fat even though I see bones I didn’t see before. I always end up buying clothes too big because I’m shocked at how small I’ve actually become. I have sharpei belly and excess skin so I should be smaller but I’ll save for a tummy tuck! Everyone says how amazing I look but I still feel like the 267 lb fat girl.

I'm doing great. 25 lbs lost my clothes are loose and I actually feel that I am actually going to loose my excess weight. I'm on soft foods and I am tolerating almost everything. This coming Thursday is my 6 week post-op. I am excited. I am glad your not nervous. You are going to do great. Just remember everything you experience will pass eventually. I will be thinking of you on Monday. Start walking a soon as your able to do. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I see saggy skin....i am 50 but see a body of an 80 year old now. At least with cloths on. I wear a lot of athletic clothes. Hoodies, tshirts, leggings. I need more weight training but working 12 hour days make it hard.

Mother’s bizarre behavior after my surgery
AJ Tylo replied to mrs_brontosaurus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My view - This was my decision to live longer and healthier, I could give a hoot what others think or feel. I have heard it all also. - You cheated from my 19yr old who did loose 77 pounds on his own - Not all of us can afford it? Well work a second job not my fault - Your attitude has changed, No not really my appearance has changed and you are judging me by how i look - You cant go out to eat or drinks. Yes i can just wont graze on 50 wings, 2 dozen oysters, and 12 drinks, sorry all good with 3 shrimp and a few drinks Bottom line who the f**k really cares what anyone says, It is your body your decision and your money. -
I am from Australia, so we think in kilos, not pounds. So you have lost about 9kg in a month. That's ok, I think. I am surprised that you can eat steak and sides. At that 1st month point, I was still restricted to Optifast twice a day (surgeons orders) and struggled to get through one! I lost 10kg in the first month (22 pounds). Even now, I have a hard time getting through a 200 gram steak (which I think is 7 oz?), and can never eat sides. I usually order an entree from a menu as my main. Luckily, if I can't finish my meal, I have a husband who can! I am 18 months out and have lost 40kg (about 90 pounds). Still got 10 kg (22 pounds) to go until I reach "wedding weight!! But I am quite tall at 175cm so everyone is telling me not to lose any more. I have done it slow and steady, and am delighted that I have no loose skin at all! Best wishes. It's early days yet for you. Keep positive!

Mother’s bizarre behavior after my surgery
Dee2938 replied to mrs_brontosaurus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oddly enough, I think we all have friends and family members who are not supportive of our choice to have surgery. But they don’t have to live in our bodies. We do! So it’s important to keep that in mind. I think your mom just wants to “prove” to you that you could have lost it the old fashioned way. However she may be feeling jealousy or insecurity about your success. I would just talk to her. It’s petty, and it’s not helping anyone. Wish her luck on her weight loss journey, but tell her you are not interested in her methods, you are focusing on your journey. Let her know that what’s done is done. You cant go back so this display is not helping and let her know it makes you uncomfortable, upset, etc, and that you need her to support your decision. I have a friend who was hell bent on not letting her best friend have the surgery. She did everything in her power to convince her friend that she could loose the weight on her own. Her friend was overweight her entire life why she thought that would suddenly change is beyond me. Even after, when she started loosing the weight, she insisted that she could have done it on her own. I got into a bit of an argument trying to convince her that no she couldn’t have. If she could have, she would have. But she was not able to, no matter how many times she tried. After seeing their struggle I chose to tell very few people about my decision to have the surgery. I knew I did not want to go through that with anyone. Of course, I told my mom she stayed with me in the hospital etc, and was super supportive. That’s one reason I feel for you. It would have been awful for me if she wasn’t on board. There are many people who’s insecurities come out when they see others succeed. It’s very unfortunate that it’s your mom, but it happens. There are friends and coworkers (and family members) that don’t want you to change. It happens with or without the surgery. If you are down it makes them feel up. We all have to just push through and let go of the negative people in our lives. Give her time after you talk to her. She may get better. But don’t be surprised if she gets more passive-aggressive as you continue to loose. Especially if she stops loosing or regains weight. Hopefully that won’t happen and you’ll be back to normal before long. Good luck. -

well its not the sprint of the weight loss as we all loose at different paces so the journey of the weight loss and a new way of thinking is more of what you are after there will be stalls and moments of pleasure and sadness stay focused on your journey and all will be well there is no real number of what you should loose per month or week or day congrats on your journey and welcome to the other side -
February 2019 weight loss buds

So I was in the 240’s for the reduction, which was approximately what I was when got sleeved, so a BMI of around 40%. Of course 9 years ago I had zero idea that I’d have WLS. We are almost the same height. I call myself 5’7”, but in actuality I’m 5’6 and 3/4. 7/8 on a good day, lol. Here would be my advice: do it if you’re within 20-30 pounds of GW, but if you have >30 pounds, hold off The reason is that once you pull the trigger on this, you want to avoid sag as much as possible. My favorite thing about my reduction was that I didn’t have any sag or droop. Everything was “High and tight” and now they’re sagging slightly bc of some (but not much) loose skin. It’s nothing that the right bra can’t fix, but why not try for the best results possible, ya know? I’ll be just fine as long as I don’t lose too much more volume (honestly there isn’t much more to lose anymore, but I’m happy with that) if I lose much more volume the loose skin (rather than the loss of boobs) will bother me slightly. IMO, having “normal” or “1 size under normal” size boobs makes a woman look much slimmer than any other single thing. Just my opinion -

Looks yummy, like a nice bariatric buffet! My scars from my band aren't too bad anymore, but that was over 11 years ago. The only one that is still really visible is the one where they put the port in, it's about 2 to 2.5 inches long and still somewhat purple. You won't have to deal with that though! Other than that, there's one other scar still noticeable, but it's flesh-colored, it just looks like a different texture than the rest of my skin. I didn't use any scar fading cream, but a lot of people have great success with them if that's something you are worried about 😃 Thanks for sharing! -
Butt flap - Anyone have?
Healthy_life2 replied to apiane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Loose skin is an unknow factor with rapid weight loss. You won’t know if your booty may need plastics until you get to goal. Weight lifting helps to fill in some of the lose skin. We started around the same BMI. My butt is small and yes, it has some ripples *laughing* Exercise database glutes (click load more to get all of them) https://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/finder/?muscleid=14 Undergarments & Plastic surgery as options -
Yes! So not cute! Lol. Mine has lessened as my skin has caught up with my weight loss, but, in general, I'm assuming building the butt muscles is the best way to go. That's on my to-do list because I am officially buttless right now!

I had the lap band in 2012 I did loose some weight but I think that’s because I was vomiting every day for over a year. So I had my gallbladder removed in 2015 and Monday I had my lap band removed and converted to a sleeve. Doctors aren’t even doing the lap band much anymore. -

I tried looking him up and I watched lots of episodes of botched. I was able to find out where he went to school and where he worked previously In the Dallas metroplex area. It appears he did a lot of work with burn victims. He only works at my VA hospital two days a week. When we met he talked about doing the procedures I will have previously and the outcomes. He did say he only ever had one patient complaint (she claimed she could not stand up straight). I couldn’t find anything on the internet, but if there was a settlement I am sure that is why there is nothing there. I actually appreciate the honesty though. He will do a more extensive thigh surgery if I want, but not in the same surgery. I would have to wait at least 6 months. I am scheduled for pre-op appointments December 2nd. Still time to back out, but I think I am going to go for it. Not going to lie though, when they talked about scheduling the chest X-ray and EKG my stomach went a little woozy because this just got real. For some reason watching surgeries involving internal organs doesn’t bother me, but seeing someone’s skin removed is scary. At least I won’t be watching it. -

Interesting thoughts...! The doctor asked me what size I was hoping to be. I'm a 36J right now. I didn't want to sound greedy so I said "D?" She said I would probably end up smaller than a D and cautioned me not to be surprised because, from my perspective, I'd look out of proportion to the rest of my body (shoulders, stomach). I sort of thought they could reduce boobs down to any size, so that surprised me. She said my apron skin would be way more noticeable as well given right now my boobs sort of block the view. I hadn't really thought about feeling "too small" or how big my tummy would look without the massive boobs so there's a lot to think about. I would love to improve my hunched posture, though, and be able to buy a normal-sized bra. The bras I have now I call the "cargo hold"! -

Hi all---just wanted you all to know that I had a consultation with a surgeon on Monday to discuss a breast reduction. I'm at 160 lbs and feels as if this is my maintenance weight. Given my history of back and neck pain, and wanting to get a breast reduction years ago, I figured now was the time to start pursuing it. The surgeon told me that my insurance would cover it so I'm going to go ahead with it. During the consult, she asked me if I was thinking about getting the apron skin removed. She took some measurements and photos and will submit them to my insurance company to see if that could be covered too. I never thought insurance would cover it so I'll wait and see---if my Blue Cross Blue Shield plan will pay, then I'm going to seriously consider it. If I decide yes, then I have to decide if I want to have that done at the same time as my mammoplasty. To be honest, both surgeries sound very painful. The incisions are real cuts, not laproscopic cuts, so the recovery time will take at least 2 weeks and longer if I do the apron skin. The apron-skin removal is not the same as a tummy tuck...that would be on my dime, but could be done at the same time as my apron-skin removal. So much to consider, especially because I'm not thrilled about going into surgery again. Oh, and I'd have to wait until my one-year surgerversary for the apron-skin surgery, which is fine with me given I want to make sure all the weight I think I've lost will be lost. Just to let you know....apron-skin removal might be covered by your insurance if the skin hangs below your pubic bone (that was why she measured me and took so many photos--ugh!). Anyone else considering one or both of these surgeries? -
Hey everyone! I am 39 years old and I have been single for about two months after a six year long relationship. I have the VSG about a year and a half ago, losing about 65 pounds, dropping from 241 to 176. I would love to lose more but as hard as I have been trying, I think my body is just happy at this point. Anyhow, like I said earlier, I was in a relationship for the past six years. We have a beautiful daughter, so she has been my focus and will continue to be so. It is hard to think about dating though. I am slightly self conscious about the extra skin I have, even though it is only on my arms. I have a good amount of money saved to have it removed, but my ex doesn’t believe in paying child support (even though he makes six figures), so that money will now be spent on an attorney. It really sucks, but it is what it is. Anyhow, the thought of dating is so scary. I don’t even know where to start, lol! How do y’all meet new people?
