    When did everyone start ?

I had 6 weeks, and no I didn't. I had a hernia repair on top of a revision due to medical problems, so no. Just sit and recoup. You don't know what else is going on with the body and it does need to adjust.
  2. I've been at goal for a year now and am ready for a breast implant revision (had the same ones for 31 yrs now). I'm going for a consult in June with a local doc, but was wondering if anyone has had plastics done in Mexico. If so, by whom, what did you have done, what was the cost, and were you concerned at all about your safety? Any other information would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!
  3. Oregondaisy just had a facelift in Mexicali...I was being revised w/Dr Aceves while she was there..she liked her surgeon..just a thought
  4. I had the sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and returned to work a week after surgery. I am having a revision to Gastric Bypass in September or October and I was wondering how long I would be off from work. Was anybody able to go back to work after a week or did it take longer? I'm a bit OCD and like to plan things out in advance but I have no idea what to expect this time around.
  5. So far I've lost about 73% of my EBW. The first 60% was "easier", but far from easy. LOL. I followed a plan and stuck to it. I lost weight. It was and IS a diet. Make no mistakes about that. LOL. Many are lucky in that the rule: Even blind squirrels will find a nut every now and then...applies to them with surgery. The surgery does a lot of the heavy lifting. But I was not so fortunate. I have to work for every pound lost. And if you want to get beyond your 60%, it takes outright work, cunning, hacking, revising, and continuing to walk the WLS walk, every damn day. But it is worth it. I dreamed big. My RD told me it was unrealistic, but I was not gonna settle for "Overweight" after having major tum surgery. I want to be in the normal weight range and that is anything below about 140lbs. My goal is 125-130lbs. It may take another year to get there. LOL.
  6. I lost 60 lbs with the lap band, have slowly regained approximately 20 - 25 lbs. I am 5'4", I went from 225 lbs down to 165 and I felt fantastic and very happy at that weight. With the regain I am now around 190. I am hoping gastric bypass will get me back down to 165-160. What is your weight loss after revision?
  7. I'm sorry that you are having these problems. They mirror what I went through with the lapband. The first years were fine, lost 70 pounds but somewhere along the way, the fill was too tight, too loose, vomiting, slider foods just to eat. Finally decided to get an unfill, gained all the weight back. My doctor said that some people just can't handle a foreign object being inside their body. I recently revised to sleeve, so far -so good. Good luck on whatever decision you make.

    What’s normal?

I'm not a revision patient, but at over four years out I can eat anything. Even at two years out, I could eat anything. Most of the restrictions and food intolerances are in the first few months post-surgery. as far as volume, you can eat more and more as time goes on (although just because you CAN doesn't always mean you SHOULD). Right now I would characterize myself as a "light eater". I highly doubt anyone would guess I've had WLS (whereas early out, it was obvious that something was going on). I eat normally, but fairly lightly. Not any different than my regular weight-conscious, normal weight friends eat, really. If I go out, I typically get an appetizer - or a salad - or I'll order an entree and bring half of it home. Most of my naturally thin or weight conscious friends do that, too.

    Skin removal surgery

I had lower body lift and both arms done last Aug 25. It was tough for the first few days, The arms were painful but the lower part not so much...I had a nerve block for that. I only used one dose of narcotic once I got home. The combo of gabapentin and robaxin on a round the clock schedule is being used more and more post op for pain control and has been effective for me after my RNY, my hip replacement and now plastic surgery. I was in surgery for 12 hrs for all 3 procedures and spent 2 nights in the hospital. I recovered at home alone except for my brother would come over every day at lunch time and bring me food and change my arm dressings. The first 2 weeks I didn't do much except sit in my recliner with my arms elevated. After that, recovery became much easier. I had 4 drains for my LBL and I managed them myself and even was able to wrap my own arms and then get into my compression garments once I got them. My brother drove me to my first post op appointment but after that I drove myself to my weekly appointments. I have now scheduled my next surgery, breast lift and back lift and scar revision on left arm, for Aug 2. I'd love to do it sooner but that's when I could get enough time off from work. My third surgery will be a thigh lift and scar revision on right arm, hopefully in January (depends on work schedule). I wouldn't change anything other than wishing I had done it all sooner! My arms are 10 inches smaller and my hips are 33 inches! I wear a size 2P and will probably be a size 0P after I get my thighs done. I never dreamed I'd have this kind of success when I was at my highest weight a few years ago! Good luck with whatever decision you make and you can do it alone with a lot of planning and determination!
  10. @FloraBama congratulations to you and glad to hear you are doing well. I'm about less than 30 minutes from having the same revision done as well in MX!!! Sent from my LG-LS980 using the BariatricPal App

    I'm running on empty :-(

Sorry to hear this. I guess the best I can do is give you a hug! (((hug))))!!!Best wishes, I had 2 slips, the 1st one was self adjusting after removal of a fill, the 2nd one, I had to go to the hospital for a revision. Karen
  12. So today was my weigh in date and I'm down 17 pounds since my band to sleeve revision. I was on business travel for 10 days (one week post op) and have glad to be home. I had to ship Protein bullets to myself and did lots of soups while I was gone...the hotel provided me with a refigerator and even had sugar free Jello for me ( I told them I had surgery and they were very accomodating) My tip if you have to travel is call and ask for a fridge and microwave in your room, most hotels will provide for free...or ask to have your minibar emptied so you can you the fridge. The hardest part of the trip was a couple of days in Vegas with two friends who are both significantly overweight and focus losts of time and energy on eating..you know...the where...when...what...I managed to do ok but it was a physical and somewhat spirtitual reminder of why I decided to change my life and have the band to sleeve revision. A win on the trip was I didn't need to us a seatbelt extendedr on my flight from Chicago to Vegas...at least on United airlines I'm ok :thumbup1: Usair...I still carry mine with my....I'm looking forward to the day I can ceremonially get rid of that damn thing!! Any ideas? I fly 100k miles a year so this a big darn deal for me. I'm still feeling good and healing nicely...and plan to hit the treadmill this week. This is my first full week at my office since I went to Mexicali. Sending everyone my very best intentions for healing and hope.
  13. 8 lbs! Wow. 3 previous cruises I didn't gain a lb. This is the first one with no fill in my band (slipped last month, waiting till late June for a sleeve revision). I ate with no abandon. eggs Benedict and corn beef hash for Breakfast, the buffet for lunch, a lavish dinner - and has anyone had Carnival Cruise Lines warm chocolate melting cake? It's to die for. I ate it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Then at about 11 pm, I'd order another dessert from room service- just because I could. Didn't go to the gym even once. Walked alot in ports, but obviously not enough. So it's official. I've now gained 30 lbs since getting married Dec 2011. It just crept up on me. About 1/2 of my closet doesn't fit anymore. I was down to an 8 and now I'm wearing about an 11/12. Hubby keeps telling me I should cut my carbs (he's a carb-a-phobe), but I feel like "hey, I'm having the sleeve done next month. Why not eat whatever I want?" I'm going to the dr on Monday to get my surgery date. I'm so embarrassed at my weight gain. And to top it off, we lost our camera on the last day of our cruise. All 500 pics of our week is gone. All those memories. No one turned it to lost and found. At least we have the memories to keep in our heads. What would you do if you were having the sleeve done next month? Try to lose weight or say to heack with it? I know what I'm going to hear "If you're not ready to change your diet then you're not ready for the sleeve". I AM ready. My band failed after 3 1/2 yrs (totally my fault, frequent vomiting) and I NEED something to help me take off the rest and maintain forever. It's why I got the band in the first place. I hate dieting. Marci

    Sleeve to RnY Revision

I am considering the same thing you did for the same reason. I see this post is from 2017. I'd love an update about GERD/reflux and also weight loss. How much did you lose after the revision, and how are you doing at maintaining? Any regain? Thank you in advance!

    Sleeve to RnY Revision

I'm curious if you did the sleeve to RNY revision. If so, when? I had it done the day after Thanksgiving 2021. Reflux was gone immediately. I've lost 60 lbs. I lost it pretty quickly, I'm maintaining for over a month now. I was a little freaked out having problems with stopping the weight loss. I did the same thing with sleeve surgery in 2010. I can eat often, but very little at a time. I struggle with meat, an ounce is safe, maybe 1.25 oz, after that, it will end up 'sitting' between my ribs and 9 times out of 10 I'll have to throw up to get relief. Surgery was in Nov, then after a sonogram and endoscopy I had my gallbladder removed in March. (They also discovered a very large marginal ulcer. (What the heck is that?) I had to take a liquid medication 3xs a day and they did another endoscopy 6 weeks later. Ulcer went from very large to large. Six weeks later another endoscopy showed it was healed. Now I'm just focusing on trying to not lose more weight. Gaining 10 lbs would be fine. I'd like to stop there and maintain just under 150. How realistic is this, maintaining from now on. Sadly, sweets and some fried meats (catfish, chicken fried steak) are easy to keep down, mashed potatoes too. I have to weigh meat, and sometimes then it still gets to me. What's up with that? Any advice, insight etc would be greatly appreciated. Share you story with me if you've had the sleeve to bypass revision.

    SLEEVE regret

I have never regretted the sleeve for a second. From pumping the pain meds, to changing my diet, to stalls. It’s all good. I would only get a revision if I got GERD, and no sign of it 14 months out.

    Low folate, iron deficient anemia…

I got my Lap Band almost ten years ago, and I can't remember if they did pre op blood work and if they did what the results were. I'm almost three months post op revision Bypass now and this surgeon did do pre op blood work, but it was all normal. I've been on continual vitamins/calcium for nearly ten years, so that's probably part of the reason my labs were normal. It's not uncommon for obese people to be malnourished/have low vitamins & mineral levels. If you think about it, for most obese people, the choices that they make/made is part of the reason that gets a lot of us to wls. Fast food, pizza, burgers for the most part has very little nourishment as far as vitamins/minerals go (besides carbs, lol). I'm sure your team will get your levels up to normal before you have your surgery. As a matter of fact, after my pre op labs came back, even tho they were normal, I was started on chewable bariatric vitamins. It was standard protocol for pre op patients. So don't fret, you'll be fine! Best wishes!
  18. I was just approved for revision surgery, I didn't have to go through the requirements for the initial surgery.
  19. You're welcome! I hope you are able to revise to a sleeve soon because I really don't think anyone should have to live with a band.
  20. I am having a revision from bypass. What is the difference from bypass to switch??
  21. Good Lord NOOOOOO ! This surgery (for me anyhow) was nothing compared to c/sections (I've had 2) nor as bad as my hysterectomy, bilateral breast reduction, tonsilectomy, shunt placement and revision, angiograms, etc (18 major surgeries) I was up and walking well by 6 hours after surgery without difficulities. . . I would say the one thing that bothered me was the drain. . . that was a pain in the gluteous maxamus. . . I am highly allergic to narcotics so the only pain med i can take is tylenol and that did the job just fine for me. . . but we all are different and handle pain differently, if you have a high pain threshold you'll do well if not well i guess you'll hurt. . . good luck
  22. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!!! It is wonderful to hear that the sleeve is working so well for you!!! One if my fears is developing bad reflux. Due to my weight, I would not be a candidate for revision to RnY so that scares me. I would hate to have to suffer for the rest of my life. My father suffers from Barrett's (sp?) syndrome and I see what he goes through despite treatment, and I don't think I could live like that

    March Bandsters!

Why are they being negative? Realistically, there are risks to any surgery. There are risks to walking out your door in the morning too. Lapband has a death risk of 1/2000, and the people who die usually have other severe health complications. Do what is in your heart, and don't let anyone tell you different. Most people seem to have a negative view of the Band because it seems to get the most negative publicity than other WLS. I'm not sure why this is, but I'm guessing when people see you succeeding, they will change their opinions rapidly. I used to be against the idea of WLS, until my Aunt got the Lapband three years ago and made it to goal and has MAINTAINED her weight for all this time. She was a yo-yo dieter and so seeing her successful with this tool gave me the push I needed. I know I have made the right decision. If, unfortunately, something goes wrong a few years down the line, I will still be thankful for the tool and the changes it will have made in my life. Nothing is ever for sure in life. And, at least I have the option to revise to a possibly better surgery or other weight maintenance thing that is not yet developed without cutting out a large part of my anatomy.

    March Bandsters!

Hello all I just wanted to give an update, I was banded 3/6/12 and had (up until this am) 8.5cc in a 14cc band. I was having great restiriction and was in my "green zone" When I weighed in this AM i was officially at the 50lbs down mark! Unfortunatly I also got the news this AM that I have a slipped band I got stuck on a grilled cheese sand last night (only had about 2 - 3 small bites. Then proceeded to throw up a few times before heading to bed. I knew something wasn't right because I had a weird pain around my port area that I have never experienced before, I figured I would sleep it off and call the Dr in the AM if I didn't feel better. Well sure enough this AM I couldn't even keep fliuds down, got to the Drs at 9, he drained my band and had me do a barium swallow, and it had slipped! I now have my revision scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10am. Another night in the hosp and I have to start the whole slow process of getting back to my green zone. I now wish I had called the Dr right away and not "slept on it" I might have been able to avoid surgery! I hope you all are doing well, and wish me luck tomorrow!!

    March Bandsters!

Ok for the past 2 days every time I eat I get really bad cramps then starts the diarrhea... and I mean within minutes of eating my stomach is hurting and the saga begins... Is this dumping syndrome???? Or how long should I monitor before calling my doctor.. I had a revision surgery on the 26th of June for a flipped port prior to that I had no issues. On the flip side I have lost 3 pounds in 2 days because of these symptoms... HELP anyone else have this problem....And I only have 3 cc in a 10 cc band so I know this is not the problem. I also do not have any nausea or vomiting...
