I have decided to get a revision from a sleeve to gastric bypass. My heartburn is getting worse and i'm gaining weight. I was originally sleeved in 2017. I am ready for this second chance because I have to self pay. I can't believe I have two full-time jobs and I'm still concerned about costs for this procedure. My first job won't cover the procedure and the second contracting job won't either. Since being sleeved, I never got to my goal weight. If you have any recommendations for bariatric surgeons in the Atlanta area, please let me know because my original surgeon has since retired during covid. I've found one surgeon, but he's very pricey at $24,000 and it doesn't include post-op appointments (insurance can cover), labs (insurance can cover), nutritional visits, (not covered by insurance) or supplements. Any feedback is welcomed.

I take a multivitamin and calcium regularly (not everyday if I am being honest because sometimes I forget) I add everything else periodically because I can usually feel when I need something like more b12/iron/Vit D. They are either small tablets or some version of a chewable. My plan didn’t require that I stay away from bread products and I despise soft breads so I didn’t have an issue tolerating the types I liked. Since your plan does ask for you to avoid it, I would. I still don’t chew gum, eat popcorn or drink carbonated beverages because those were in my original instructions 6 yrs ago. Abstaining for now won’t hurt you. Revisit the conversation with your surgeon at your 6 month follow up. Congrats on the revision -
From what I've seen on this and other forums, it does seem to be true. Revisions do seem to lose a bit slower. Not all, but some. I don't really know the reason why, but now I'm curious and may use my Google Fu to look it up

Getting to eat real food - What does you diet look like?
shoregirl75 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am post revision from sleeve to bypass 5 weeks today and I'm starting to transition to a more normal diet. I had a really tough time in the beginning with dehydration and then I had a stay back in the hospital for a bowel obstruction, but I am doing much better now. My eating has gone pretty well the last week. There were a few things my stomach just didn't like but I am learning what it likes and doesn't like. I just wondered what others normal daily menu looked like what portion sizes you are eating. I know everyone one post-op plans and doctors orders seem to be different, so I though it would be interesting to see what others are doing. If you want post pictures of you meals to show portions sizes I think that would be helpful for lots of us to see. Thanks in advance for your time.! -

Considering A Revision
jbart0973 replied to jbart0973's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow...what a past few days. I ended up in the ER Sunday night because I had a Gall bladder attack starting at 6am. Pain, nausea, dry heaving, sweats...I had it all. I finally called my surgeon's office that night and they suggested I go to the ER and surgery to take out my gall bladder would be on Monday instead of 10/9. I was worried about this because I wanted to get my lap band removed at the same time so I could avoid an additional surgery just to take it out. So I wa all set for surgery and talked to my surgeon and said he may or may not be able to take the band out because I had not yet been approved for the removal and revision to sleeve and it would also depend on how much inflammation there was from the gall bladder. So after waiting until about 4 pm on Monday I was in pre-op and about to go in for surgery and the dictir's saw something on my EKG he didn't like. So they had to bring in a cardiologist and do an echocardiogram to make sure all was ok. In the meantime because it was so late in the day and the OR was packed I lost my spot for surgery. I was sent home that night and I have been rescheduled for this Friday. It was a bummer but I'm glad my Dr was being cautious. Better safe than sorry. I have a husband and a 2 year old to go home to. On the bright side I have lost 9 lbs in 4 days from not being able to eat and being on liquids until today! And I also got the call from my surgeon'a office yesterday that I've been approved for both the band removal and sleeve! I am ecstatic! Hopefully all goes well with surgery Friday and my band can be removed so I can begin to heal and look forward to my sleeve being done on 12/10! -
Talk about losing motivation...
ShelterDog64 replied to mcplu28's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@mcplu28 A little perspective: You lost 42 (43?) lbs in 3 months on your own. I HAD THE SLEEVE DONE, and I lost 52 in 3 mos...to me, that means you're kicking ass Our docs will do the sleeve on very high BMI patients and then revise to bypass or DS when they've lost some of the weight. Do get a second opinion, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. Congratulations on your amazing results so far...don't give up and don't get discouraged. You're on the road to saving your own life <3 -
4 yrs post VSG to RNY
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My weight remained around the same but I had a revision at my goal weight. Also my surgeon was modest with the length of my bypass (less than 150) because he was adamant that I shouldn’t lose more much weight (his preference from his experience- YMMV) For me, It is not the same restriction as the VSG. The VSG was a mid chest tightness like something was stuck. RNY feels like a lower abdomen fullness of eating way too much. I always try to stop before I get to that point. But I can eat pretty much the same amount with the RNY as with the VSG. I hope that helps ❤️ -
4 yrs post VSG to RNY
newbegining2024 replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
May I ask if the reason for revision was for gerd or acid reflux? Just curious because after my sleeve o developed gerd, and I also need to loss some weight. One week post the RNY which is when I introduced soft food, I can feel the reflux at night when I lay down. It’s like something in the back of my throat and my chest feel tight. I don’t know if the reflux is a imidiate fix or not. I have to ask my doctor when I see him again. And how long was the bypass was never discussed. I didn’t know there is actually the length that I can discuss… I feel like there is a lot I could have ask and didn’t. At my one week post op visit, I had many questions, and maybe I was showing some anxiety, and of course the doctor and nutritionist sensed it. They just told me to keep clam? Let my body heal and don’t think about the weight loss right now. -
I've had the crap band for 9 years. Long story short, it sucked because it discouraged eating healthy foods but allowed me to eat sliders (chips, ice cream, rice, Pasta, and anything greasy or saucy). I just woke up from revision surgery yesterday and was told I would need to wait 3-6 months for my stomach to heal before i can get the sleeve because the band had so badly eroded my stomach. It is not just a piece of crap, it is a dangerous medical device which should be taken off the market. I know...admittedly, I'm feeling a little bitter right now so forgive the rant.

How was your recovery 1 week after surgery
IMFine replied to too much of me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Ganas! Thanks for the b-day wishes. My sister says the doctors told her she stretched her pouch most likely through ignorance of the doctors who placed it five years ago in Dallas. Five years ago this was a relatively new procedure and they've learned so much since then. Here's what the doctors think: She's a HUGE diet Coke drinker--we now know that carbonated drinks are a no-no. She was a grazer, rather than the recommended three meals a day--her pouch stayed full and was able to stretch do to being "full" all of the time. From what she tells me, when she got on solids post-op, the grazing was because she didn't feel capable of eating three meals a day. It was easier for her to just eat a bit at a time over the course of a day. She's stopped doing carbonated drinks and eats her three meals a day. She knows that she'll probably have to go in for a revision at some point. She's an Air Force Brat rule-follower-to-the-extreme like me, so, if she'd had this info pre-surgery, even post-op, she would not be in the shape she's in now. Really, she's doing great, and since she's doing marathons it might be a good thing that her pouch is a bit stretched, so that she can get the nutrients she needs to have the energy and endurance for the races. I'm very proud of her. She's my big sis, and I've always looked up to her! I hope this info helps. -
Torn between LB and Gastric bypass

The trend is that doctors are doing more and more revisions from lapband to RNY.I think the more you have to lose the better choice is the RNY,just my opinion. -
Hi everyone! Ive been reading through this forum because Ive seen a lot of people in other areas comment about having revisions from band to sleeve. I was sleeved in April, but had seriously thought about the band before. I decided against it just because I was leery of something that had to be adjusted all the time. Im wondering WHY theres so many revisions though? Did it not work? Or are there a lot of problems with it? Just curious to know

Yes that is prob my main concern too ! I finally gotten over my fear of being kidnapped by drug cartels or shot by random gunfire lol and I'm more comfortable with the flight though it's not my favorite thing to do but I'm still left worrying about 1) post op complications and 2) I worry it won't work for me since I'm a revision. I don't have anyone set up to follow up with at home so there is that as well. I know they do leak tests and I plan to do an excessive post op diet (with my sleeve I did 4 whole weeks of liquids!) to make sure I heal really well ! I'll prob do that again this time too just so I don't take any chances of eating too soon ! Other than that it's just really playing the odds ! Thankfully only a 1% chance of a leak are pretty good odds ! Lol

Staceface09 Change doctors!A small slip???Either it has slipped or not...I am like you but with many more health problems."Get worse"????Why would you wait for it to do more damage??? A 40 BMI is not low are you kidding. It is morbidly obese.I have A 38 by I.I am morbidly obese.Ser another surgeon.Get at least a second opinion.I have major damage due to the band...seeking a revision to bypass.Get a surgeon that is supportive. -
I am so glad you mentioned a second bulging stomach. I am looking toward to the revision also. But I asked my Dr. why was my upper stomach so huge? He turned, looked at me, and said "I DON'T KNOW" and then turned and walked out the door. I look a good 7 months pregnant. Deep down inside I sort of felt that maybe I had made a second upper belly due to the band always being too tight. Nevertheless; My Dr. never requested any tests to be done no matter how much I complained about stomach issues, port issues or throat issues. I blame myself for not completely following the rules but the wrong foods were easier to swallow. You were 16 and I was 55. No matter how young or old, We both made the wrong choice. I will be seeing another Dr. soon, the appointment has been set.

I am 6 weeks out from revising band-to-sleeve. I literally measure all of my food with a 1/2 C measuring cup. In the beginning after I got my band I "eye-balled" correct portion sizes and I slowly got away from that eventually ended up over-eating again. I'm so scared of not measuring my portions. Does everybody here measure out their food? Did you only in the beginning? And if you stopped, did you regain or stop losing? It's such a pain to have to actually measure out food!

Surgeon trying to talk me into band.
k3nnabear replied to bigbeauty78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Quote I had a consult with a surgeon and he's trying to talk me into the band. Given my bmi is only 36, He thinks I will loose a great amount of weight and become malnourished. I believe there are other reason for his push on the band. Like follow ups and the fills, means more . I over heard him through the wall, to the room next to mine, trying to push the band on another patient. Should I give the band a try first then have revision later if it fails?? So stressed over this! I have had the band for five years and for about the first 2 1/2 it worked great. I am finishing my final process to have a revision to the sleeve. Because my complications with the band are becoming so unbearable! I am actually on an all starch diet due to gastritis which I have NEVER had in my life. Now with these last few weeks constant diarrhea and dry heaves are horrible and make u feel dizzy! Honestly I would choose the sleeve first if I knew what I know now. Aftercare is set up for any and everything required. You don't even come in till you feel you need it. Why put yourself through two surgeries the sleeve was the newest option When I got my band five years ago Chat With me privately if you want to keep talking about it -

Lap band New to blogs and sleeves...
k3nnabear posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am very new to blogging and just downloaded this app today. I am having a revision of my realize band to the gastric sleeve. I am Very interested in the conversations and the information we all can share. Currently I still have my lap band It was placed October 21, 2008 And am expecting to have it revised hopefully within a month or less. I got an EGD done to take pictures to find out about my constant nausea vomiting and sliming . It showed my stomach was perfectly fine everything like that no problems except for a few ulcers. It turned out to be The esophagitis and H. pylori And so I started the course of treatment and had my band completely unfilled the same time. **side note I never have heart burn*** Since then I'm having horrible gastritis pain in my band site N/V/D and I can't take it anymore. Please tell me the sleeve helps with some of this ! I hope to have surgery soon!! -
