Lovelyladybee replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone, and no i don’t have a lot of skin at all -
I saw this on another monthly board and thought it was pretty funny. A lot of us October bandsters are getting discouraged. Seeing the below list kindod puts things in a different light and makes us realize that even small amounts really amount to a lot of weight. I have lost and average human leg! What about you all? 1 pound = a Guinea Pig 1.5 pounds = a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts 2 pounds = a rack of baby back ribs 3 pounds = an average human brain 4 pounds = an ostrich egg 5 pounds = a Chihuahua 6 pounds = a human skin 7.5 pounds = an average newborn 8 pounds = a human head 10 pounds= chemical additives an American consumes each year 11 pounds = an average housecat 12 pounds = a Bald Eagle 15 pounds = 10 dozen large eggs 16 pounds = a sperm whales brain 20 pounds = an automobile tire 23 pounds = amount of pizza an average American eats in a year 24 pounds = a 3-gallon tub of super premium ice cream 25 pounds = an average 2 year old 30 pounds = amount of cheese an average American eats in a year 33 pounds = a cinder block 36 pounds = a mid-size microwave 40 pounds = a 5-gallon bottle of Water or an average human leg 44 pounds = an elephants heart 50 pounds = a small bale of hay 55 pounds = a 5000 BTU air conditioner 60 pounds = an elephants penis 66 pounds = fats and oils an average American eats in a year 70 pounds = an Irish Setter 77 pounds = a gold brick 80 pounds = the Worlds Largest Ball of Tape 90 pounds = a newborn calf 100 pounds = a 2 month old horse 111 pounds = red meat an average American eats in a year 117 pounds = an average fashion model (and shes 511!) 118 pounds = the complete Encyclopedia Britannica 120 pounds = amount of trash you throw away in a month 130 pounds = a newborn giraffe 138 pounds = potatoes an average American eats in a year 140 pounds = refined sugar an average American eats in a year 144 pounds = an average adult woman (and shes 54) 150 pounds = the complete Oxford English Dictionary 187 pounds = an average adult man 200 pounds = 2 Bloodhounds 235 pounds = Arnold Schwarzenegger 300 pounds = an average football lineman 400 pounds = a Welsh pony __________________

That last 20 pounds is a b*tch! I'm in the same spot. I have lost so little lately and it IS discouraging. But....all of a sudden my 14s got loose and I had to go buy some 12s! Don't worry. The scale will eventually catch up! (or rather down!) Don't be disappointed when the scale doesn't move right after your TT. Because of the swelling and drainage it took about 2 weeks for it to show up on the scale after I had mine.

Mis73 is right. You must appeal with pictures and documentation of rash, discomfort, infection, etc. all the the problems you've experienced. Moles or skin tags aren't covered either, but if they are irritated because your bra or waistband rubs against it then removal becomes medically necessary. The doctor needs to document medical necessity.

Insurance denied skin removal even though I have horrible rashes lower and all around my belly botton. I plan on appealing this, any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this?

Question for the women
maxcimax replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tummy has gotten smaller but I wear long shirts to hid it. I'm hoping it continues to get smaller. It's my understanding that it takes about 2 years for your skin to tighten up. My daughter had a tummy tuck & it was painful. At my age (70) i'm not sure I want to go thru this. Hopefully I have enough elasticity left in my skin to keep it from dragging the ground. Lol. -
Where do I start?
happynfree1996 replied to coconutlemongrass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to have surgery this week, I am a nurse. The thing I fear the most is the depression afterwards. I have already thought about the lost of food some how depressing. I realize that looking better will be the bonus. I want less weight on my feet. I want more energy. I wrote a list of reasons I need this and want to loose weight. I promise myself to read it when I am down. At the point you are now you can look how far you come and know that it's only going to be better. You want better health and your working in that direction. Some days are one moment at a time. This is your journey and you will do well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G750A using the BariatricPal App -
Is anyone else shedding skin, first it was my face, now my feet and stomach and arms. I feel like I am growing a new skin. Am I a snake?

That's one I've never heard of before. Are you getting in enough water? How far post-op are you? If you're not getting in enough water, that could be causing you to peel. I know that I'm pouring lotion and oil on my skin these days, so maybe you need to ramp up the lotion to prevent the peeling?

I brought a lot of stuff, but this is what I actually used: Phone Chapstick Loose sweatpants I think that's it! I brought other things that I thought I would use and never did. I wish that I had brought some dry mouth spray, but I didn't have time to go to the store before surgery to get it. It's also a good idea to bring a pillow or blanket to hold against your stomach on the drive home. I used a blanket from my hospital room—it was easier to hold it against my stomach than a pillow. You won't need as much stuff as you think. Good luck!

Loose Skin for Younger Sleevers?
SueJH replied to nynewlywed's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've lost 90lbs. I have some wrinkly skin around my tummy, thighs and upper arms. I'm 9 months out so I still have some time for some of it to hopefully rebound. Time will tell! -
Well, it will be 2 years in October, anyway!. I've maintaned the same weight for over a year now (155 lbs) and really have no issues at all anymore. The only thing I've noticed that's different is that for the first year I could have gone with no food at all - I never cared if I ate ever again. Now I'm hungry alllll the time - or at least every 2 hours or so. However, with that said. Still 4-5 bites of "whatever" completely satisfy me. And my lifestyle is so freaking active that I'm constantly burning calories. August in particular is active because I participate in a fund-raiser Hike-A-Thon and so far this month I've hiked over 50 miles with over 10,000' in elevation gains. I feel like a success story. Right now I'm scheduled for my skin removal surgery on September 10th. Doing my thighs, stomach, and lifting up the girls back where they belong (but not "enhancing"). If I get some kind of teaching job this fall, though, I'll have to reschedule. Best Wishes, Soup-a-Woman edited to say: I started at 305 lbs, so I've lost and kept off 150 lbs.

Cranky sleeve: need some advice please
Itsanot99 replied to mchap25's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know this sounds wierd but try wendys chili, mush it with a fork and chew it well. I swear it was the only thing that I could deal with for about 2 weeks. I have a wonderful copy cat recipe for it if it works for you!! I hate sugar free anything, will not eat anything that is sugar free. Look up infused water recipes they may help you also. I am not loosing weight as fast as others but I am not getting sick either. I am 30 pounds down since 5-11-15 -

Emotional hurdles / Marriage issues
summerseeker replied to CarmenP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of this before. When we are overweight we loose ourselves and hide behind family and try to stay as small as possible and hide in the shadows. Gradually we are no longer the people we were. I used to work in a Adult Education College. Every two years a new full time Art Course began. There were lots of middle aged ladies took the course and over the 30 hour week they put in these ladies slowly changed, their personalities and confidence began to blossom. You could physically see it happen. Many of these ladies left their husbands. They were different. My husband was finished from his very physical job because of his ill health and lost all his confidence. It really shook him and he changed for the worse. I was his verbal punch bag. I took it for 2 years. I found somewhere else to live and gave him the ultimatum. You stop all this mental cruelty and go back to the man I love or I am gone in a week. With in a day he was back to the man I know and deeply love. He had it all but couldn't see it. What I am trying to say in a roundabout way is confidence or lack of it, changes us. It changes the people around us. I would put a plan in place just so you have a bolt hole. Try speaking to your husband, tell him how you feel, try counselling. You never know you may meet in the middle again. You will always know you tried everything -

Hi... I am set for FEB 14th. I got a PreSurgery 2 week diet. I Have to take 2 protein shakes and have a small lunch like tuna or something and a small snack like cottage cheese and then for dinner light stuff like 4oz chicken breast with some veggies and one starch. IT sounds pretty easy and they said people loose 20 or so pounds during the 2 wks. I am going to follow it to the T. I start on the 1st.....Best of luck to you.

Hi! I am new to this site and wanted to quickly introduce myself. I live in Richmond, TX but work in Houston. My lap-band surgery is 5 weeks from today, yeah!! I am using Dr. Marvin. My starting weight is around 340 and I'd like to eventually get down to 150. I am about 5'9'' and am single. I don't have any children but I do have a pet Chihauhau named Bonita. She is the cutest! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was in high school and have been managing the symptoms with meds but can't loose weight on my own. I have recently started taking meds for my thyroid. I am anxious to start the lap band journey becuase I know it will dramatically change my life! I hope you hear from lots of you as we go through this journey together!

I'm conflicted on this since I want to follow the rules and continue to loose but right now I am sipping some hot tea with my meals since I think I'm too tight and it help relex my stomach (band)... also I hate the not drinking thing so I was having one sip or an ice cube during the meals before. I'm a slow loser ususally so I don't want to sabatoge myself by drinking and making the loss slower but right now the hot tea is a must for comfort.

15 Days out and I've only lost 10lbs.
SpaceDust replied to AZLatina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One of the suggestions I've seen is to not just go by the scale because everyone had stalls. For those of you who aren't seeing the pounds drop, are your clothes fitting more loosely? Did you measure yourself at the start, and are you perhaps losing inches? Are you getting more exercise so that you might be building muscle mass? -
Anthem Blue Cross PPO in California?
Jennifer77 replied to stranger9876's topic in Insurance & Financing
Start with the surgery centers themselves. Call around to all the bariatric surgery centers and ask if they are a "Blue Cross Center of Excellence (COE)". Blue cross only covers the procedures at the centers THEY deem as COE. After talking to tons of Dr.s offices by looking them up on my Anthem Blue Cross website, and hearing that the Dr. is a contracted physician, I would start the process only to find out that the center that the doctor uses is not a COE therefor ABC would not cover it. I called around to about 8 different surgery hospitals/centers before I found a location that was COE. And then from there I asked them which physicians on staff were contracted through ABC as well. And that's how after six months of searching, I finally found the center and doctor that my insurance would cover. Good luck. In this day and age you need to be your own advocate. Alot of Dr.s are dropping their contracts with the insurance companies because they are quite frankly getting screwed by them. I work at a brand new surgery center, and we don't contract with anyone because we would loose too much money and be unable to stay open. Make the calls and make sure you are asking the correct questions, and you should do fine. BTW, blue cross is terrible about paying for the after care. As far as your fills and such, you may need to pay for those on your own. I ended up paying a "fee" after my insurance pay outs to cover the cost of my aftercare (fills, consults, post procedure follow up visits). Again good luck. -
I'm just over a month out of surgery feeling great really happy with everything except my stomach right around my belly button is dry and my feet are getting dry and cracking. Wanted to see if anyone had a solution for this or an idea on what to do

Dragonwillow replied to Charlee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Defiently do weight training...you may loose physical weight slower, but you will still be loosing inches. I dind't loose any weight this month, but lost inches. Make sure you measure. Here is a picture of the difference between 5lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle...you decide which would look better. -
